This research sought to develop argument as a problem-solving process by adding debate to social studies instruction with three groups of fifth-grade students. This design-based research (DBR) reports on the ways that instruction was refined across three topical units to develop argumentative agency and a critical participatory literacy. Students addressed current issues extended from historical events and engaged in issues collaboratively through debates, then individually in their writing. DBR approaches afforded a description of the factors that enhanced and inhibited argument development across the debate cycles and chronicled the modifications that were put in place to refine the instruction. A retrospective analysis led to pedagogical assertions that illuminate what was learned about the interrelationship of oral and written argument and the instructional refinements that were required to support arguments as a means of solving problems.

Abstract:
The study aimed: (1) to describe the steps of PBL with model materials, (2) to improve mathematics, and (3) to describe the constraints and solutions. It was a collaborative classroom action research (CAR) carried out in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were teachers and 20 students. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and tests. Data analysis included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that: (1) the steps to the application of PBL with model materials to improve mathematics about solid figures to fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Danasri in academic year of 2019/2020 were: (a) examining problem orientation with the model materials, (b) preparing the students to work in groups, (c) having the students to investigate individually or in groups with the help of model materials, (d) having presentation and discussion by using model materials; (e) analyzing and evaluating problem solving process with the help of model materials; (2) the application of PBL with model materials improved mathematics about solid figures. The average percentages of mastery learning were 85% in the first cycle, 90% in the second cycle, and 95% in the third cycle: (3) obstacles in each meeting were (a) a few students used the model materials as tools while learning process and having group discussions, (b) a few students asked questions. The solutions were: (a) the teacher introduced the model materials, (b) the teacher stimulated the students to ask questions.

This study aims to examine the application of social inquiry models related to increasing social intelligence in social studies subjects in an elementary school. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research type with a One Group Pretest-Postest design. The result shows that the five indicators of social intelligence developed are self-awareness, working with others, communicating, empathizing, and problem-solving. All indicators have been successfully improved by implementing the social model of inquiry on 25 fifth-grade students of MI Salman Al-Farisi. Of the five indicators of social intelligence developed, problem-solving intelligence is the indicator of social intelligence with the highest increase compared to the empathic indicator, which is in the low criterion, while other indicators are in the medium category.

In mathematics, students' ability to solve problems is very much needed. Every student has different abilities. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct a research in order to find out the students' abilities in solving problems in mathematics, especially in fractional material. In researching, quantitative description is the method chosen by the researcher. In this study using a research instrument in the form of a test to measure students' ability to solve mathematical problems and conducted interviews. Data analysis of the results of mathematical tests about solving fractions of fifth grade students at SD Negeri 2 Kalirejo is in the high category. This is evident from the results of tests at SD Negeri 2 Kalirejo that included in the high category were 61.29%, moderate were 23.80% and the low and very low categories were 12.89%.

This unit began as a favor for a friend who needed some examples of children writing about mathematics. but it ended as a marvelous activity for the first week of school. The unit consisted of a series of lessons that furnished my fifth-grade students with a review of geometry and problem solving using geometric concepts and allowed them to communicate with each other about these concepts both in writing and orally.

Improving the quality of social studies learning consists of improving teacher skills, student activities, and learning outcomes. Data on student learning outcomes showed as many as 21 students (70%) of the 30 students did not complete the KKM (64). This happens because the teacher has not been optimal in using learning models and media, causing student activity and learning outcomes to be low. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of social studies learning through the application of the Learning Cycle model with video media. The purpose of this study was to improve the quality of social studies learning through the Learning Cycle model with video media for fifth grade students at SDN 32 Sungai Jaring. This study used classroom action research which was carried out in three cycles, each cycle consisting of one meeting with four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the reflection as planning for the next cycle. The subjects of this study were teachers and 30 fifth grade students at SDN 32 Sungai Jaring. Data collection techniques using test and non-test techniques were analyzed with descriptive and qualitative descriptive statistical techniques. The results showed that the teacher's skills in the first cycle obtained good criteria, the second cycle obtained very good requirements, and the third cycle obtained very good requirements. Student activities in cycle I got good criteria, cycle II got good criteria, and cycle III got very good criteria. Student learning outcomes in cycle I obtained sufficient criteria, cycle II obtained good criteria, and cycle III obtained excellent criteria. The conclusion of this research is the Learning Cycle model with video media can improve the quality of social studies learning for class V SDN 32 Sungai Jaring.

This study aims to find out: 1) The difference between students 'social studies learning outcomes taught by local cultural-based learning approaches and students' social learning outcomes taught by conventional approaches; 2) Differences in social studies learning outcomes of students who have high diversity values compared to social studies learning outcomes of students who have low diversity values; and 3) Interaction between learning approaches and diversity values towards students' social studies learning outcomes. This research was conducted at 067774 Public Elementary School, Medan Johor District. The population in this study was fifth grade students consisting of 50 students. Data collection techniques in this study were the diversity of questionnaires and social studies learning achievement tests. The method used is quasi experiment with 2x2 factorial design. Data analysis techniques using two-way ANAVA at a significant level α = 0.05. The results showed that: (1) There was a difference between the learning outcomes of students who were taught with the approach to learning based on local culture and the learning outcomes of students who were taught with conventional approaches (Fcount = 17.064; sig. = 0,000 <0.05); (2) There are differences in social studies learning outcomes of students who have high diversity values compared with social studies learning outcomes of students who have low diversity values (Fcount = 10.602; sig. = 0.002 <0.05); and (3) There is an interaction between learning approaches and diversity values in influencing social studies learning outcomes (Fcount = 22.115; sig. = 0.000 <0.05). The results of this study indicate that the learning approach and diversity values influence the students' social studies learning outcomes.
