With the rapid development of machine translation, the research of man-machine coordinated translation is drawing much concern. This paper explores roles of machine translation on advance preparation for simultaneous interpreting. We carry out a comparative study on 14 student interpreters, which are divided into experimental group and control group. The students in experimental group are allowed to use machine translation to prepare for a simultaneous interpreting, while the students in control group are not. The experimental results show that errors in machine translation might mislead the student interpreters in the simultaneous interpreting practice. On the other hand, if the time of preparation is limited, it is better not to resort to machine to make preparation because of time-consuming proofreading, or twice the effort would achieve half the result.

The present study was conducted with an objective to observe the wound healing capacity under the influence of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) fields. To fulfil the aim of the study rats and rabbits were taken as experimental animals. These animals were divided into two groups i.e. experimental and control. Equal strength of animals were taken in each of the groups. During the study period It was observed that the surface area of the DC stimulated wound healed faster in comparison to AC stimulated wound. It was also found that the volume of AC stimulated wound healed faster than DC stimulated wound. Eventually, it was observed that stimulated wound healed rapidly in experimental animals in comparison to control group.

Trata-se de um estudo comparativo com enfoque qualitativo, em que se discute as repercussões do ProJovem, enquanto política socioeducativa, na vida de jovens egressos desse programa a partir das finalidades ou dimensões que o estruturam. Apresenta como pergunta principal: Qual a diferença provocada pelo ProJovem na vida dos egressos desse programa, que residem em São Luís-MA? O trabalhoé fundamentado à luz do pensamento de Arendt (1992; 2007), Arroyo (2007), Silva (2008), Arretche, (2001) e Minayo (2005). Situa-se o ProJovem como uma política para juventude, discutindo-a em sua concepção e aportes teóricos. Pesquisa realizada no ano de 2010 com 154 sujeitos, sendo 74 egressos do programa e 80 não ingressantes, com idades, histórias e residências em contextos similares aos dos jovens egressos. Utilizou-se grupos focais e um grupo de controle como técnica e estratégia de pesquisa. Os resultados da pesquisa revelam que, a despeito das inúmeras variáveis contextuais, o ProJovem provocou diferença na vida dos egressos ludovicenses, apontando como aspecto mais acentuado a continuação dos estudos. Contudo, no referente à cidadania, o programa não a contemplou plenamente, embora tenha contribuído, em alguns casos, para reduzir o estado de vulnerabilidade dos beneficiários.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: ProJovem. Avaliação.YOUTH AND CITIZENSHIP IN THE CONTEXT OF URBAN PROJOVEM: repercussions in the life of graduatesABSTRACT: This is a comparative study with qualitative approach, in which we discuss the repercussions of ProJovem while socio-educational policy in the lives of young graduates from this program and from the objectives or dimensions that structure it. It presents as a main question: What is the difference caused by ProJovem in the lives of graduates of this program that live in São Luís- MA? This work is based on the thoughts of Arendt (1992,2007), Arroyo (2007), Silva (2008), Arretche (2001) and Minayo (2005). ProJovem is known as a policy for young people, discussing it in its conception and theoretical aspects as well. This research was done in 2010 with 154 persons: 74 graduates from the program and 80  non graduates. Both students had in common their ages, stories and residences in similar context of the graduates. Focal group and control group were used as a technique and a research strategy. The results achieved from the research reveal that despite the numerous contextual variables, ProJovem caused a significant difference in the graduated students from São Luís. As a further and meaningful aspect, we point out that they continued their educational studies. However, regarding to citizenship, the program was not contemplated fully, even though, it has contributed in some cases to reduce the beneficiaries’ vulnerability status.KEYWORDS: ProJovem. Investigación realizada en el año de 2010 con 154 sujetos, siendo 74 egresos del programa y 80 no ingresantes, con edades, historias y residencias en contextos similares a los de los jóvenes egresos. Se utilizó grupos focales y un grupo de control como técnica y estrategia de investigación. Los resultados de la investigación revelan que, con respeto de las innúmeras variables contextuales, el ProJovem provoque diferencia en la vida de los egresos de la ciudad de São Luís “ludovicenses”, apuntando como aspecto más acentuado la continuación de los estudios. Sin embargo, con lo que se refiere a la ciudadanía, el programa no la contempló plenamente, por más que haya contribuido, en algunos casos, para reducir el estado de vulnerabilidad de los beneficiarios.PALABRAS CLAVE: ProJovem. Abstract: This research is semi-empirical study which is done to examining the effectiveness of family trainings and life skills on Caring Chronic Mental Disorders in Mashhad (Iran). 300 participants has been chosen in randomly from the families of chronic mental disorders who has been admitted in round the clock centers in Mashhad and who had been in waiting list and these participants has been divided to two groups of experiment and control randomly and we introduce family trainings and life skills to experiment group. There was no training to control group. These two groups were tested period to the beginning of trainings and post training with instruments such as California Social Adjustment Questionnaire; Families’ Attitude and Awareness about Life Skills and Family Trainings; Rosenberg Self-Esteem; General Health Questionnaire;and Symptom Checklist-90-Revised. Results indicated that training had no effect on the attitude of families toward taking care of mental disorder, but family member،s attitude toward mental disorder has been changed. This training has been influential on changing family member،s attitude toward life skills, social adjustment, self esteem, mental health increase and reducing mental disorders. Efectividad de un entrenamiento familiar y de la habilidades de la vida en el cudidad de pacientes crónicos con enfermedad mental en una población iraní. Resumen:La presente investigación es un estudio cuasi-experimental para evaluar la efectividad de un entrenamiento en habilidades en el cuidado del trastorno mental grave en Mashhad (Irán). 300 participantes han sido seleccionados de forma aleatoria entre los familiares de trastornos mentales crónicos admitidos en los centros de Mashhad y que había estado en la lista de espera. Estos participantes han sido divididos en dos grupos, experimental y control, introduciendo el entrenamiento en familia y de habilidades para la vida en el grupo experimental. No hubo ningún entrenamiento en el grupo control. Estos dos grupos fueron evaluados al inicio y final del entrenamiento con instrumentos como el Cuestionario de Ajuste Social de California, Actitud de las Familias y Reconocimiento sobre Habilidades de la Vida y Entrenamiento Familiar; Autoestima de Rosenberg; Cuestionario General de Salud; y Listado de 90 Síntomas Revisado. Los resultados indicaron que el entrenamiento no tuvo efecto en la actitud de las familias sobre el cuidado de los trastornos mentales, pero la actitud hacia la enfermedad mental ha cambiado. Este entrenamiento ha sido muy influyente en el cambio familiar en las actitudes hacia las habilidades de la vida, el ajuste social, autoestima, el incremento de la salud mental y la reducción de los trastornos mentales.

Objectives: To find out the efficacy of single dose antibiotic vs multiple dosesin preventing wound infection following appendicectomy for uncomplicated appendicitis. Methods: A prospective comparative study was conducted in the Department of Surgery, Chittagong Medical college Hospital from January'2009 to June'2009. 100 patients with uncomplicated appendicitis who underwent appendicectomy during that period were included in this study. Among them 50 cases were included in study group ·(SG) who were given only single dose of combination drugs ( lnj. Cefuroxime + lnj. Metronidazole).ln rest of the 50 cases (CG), antibiotics were continued for 7 days postoperatively. Result: Maximum incidence of acute appendicitis was in the 2nd and 3rd decade of life with male preponderance .Rate of wound infection in the study group and control group was 4% and 2% respectively which was not statistically significant .The duration of antibiotic therapy had no significant effect on the length of hospital stay between the two groups ; 2.48 days vs 2.9 days [mean + s.d. 69.6 # 16.8 hours ] in the study and control group respectively, though treatment cost was higher in control group in comparison to the study group . Conclusion: Single dose of preoperative antibiotics is adequate for prevention of postoperative wound infection following appendicectomy for uncomplicated appendicitis. AbstractObjectivesHypothyroidism adversely affects pulmonary function, which may improve by thyroxine therapy. Limited studies about the effect of hypothyroidism on spirometric parameters in adult patients were conducted in Basra, south of Iraq. Moreover, the effect of thyroxine therapy on spirometric parameters was not covered by these studies. In this study, pulmonary function in adult’s hypothyroid patients was evaluated by spirometry to detect any impairment, type of impairment, and to evaluate the effect of thyroxine therapy.MethodsA comparative study was conducted in Al-Faiha Specialized Diabetes, Endocrine, and Metabolism Center (FDEMC) in Al-Faiha teaching hospital, Basrah, Iraq. Subjects are divided into four groups: uncontrolled hypothyroid group (n=72), controlled hypothyroid group (n=60), newly diagnosed hypothyroid group (n=52), and control group (n=110). Spirometry was done to all subjects in sitting position, it’s repeated at least three times and the best result was recorded.ResultsA significantly (p<0.05) less spirometric parameters and more abnormal pulmonary function test (PFT) were noticed in hypothyroid groups, the reduction were more pronounced in the uncontrolled hypothyroid group. The abnormality in PFT was mostly of restrictive type. A significantly (p<0.05) negative correlation has been found between thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and spirometric parameters, while the correlation of fT4 is significantly (p<0.05) positive with FVC% and FEV%.ConclusionIn hypothyroidism, high TSH and low fT4 are recognized causes of a reduction in spirometric parameters. Therefore, spirometry can be used to detect pulmonary function changes in hypothyroidism.

This comparative study was designed to investigate how online and traditional face-to-face (FtF) students used different learning styles in a graduate educational course. A nonequivalent control group design was employed. The study involved 19 students in an experimental group (online section) and 25 students in a control group (FtF section) in a graduate course in the Fall semester of 2004. Although no significant statistical differences were detected in learning styles at pretest, significant statistical differences were found in many learning style subscales at posttest between experimental and control groups. Specifically, at the end of the course, online students seemed to have a higher preference for peer interaction, competition, interaction with the instructor, details of the course materials, independence, authority, reading, direct experiences, and clear goal setting than their counterparts in the FtF section. No significant statistical differences were detected in learning performance between both groups. Implications resulted from the study.

This research is aimed at finding the comparative study between Buzz Group and Critical Debate toward students’ speaking achievement. This research was experimental research. Statistic formula was used as the technique of data analysis. The subject of this research consisted of 44 students at the second grade students of MA Darul Qur’an Bengkel. The technique of collecting data used pre-test and post-test. The mean score of experimental group was 48.72 for pre-test, 66.18 for post-test and control group was 46.18 for pre-test, 63.27 for post-test. Variance of experimental group was 68.21, 62.91 for variance of control group and ttest score was 0.13 and t-table in significance level of 0.05 was 1.682 with degree of freedom was 42. It showed that t-test was higher than t-table, so that way, alternative hypothesis accepted and null hypothesis rejected. Therefore, the writer concluded there was significant compare of Buzz Group and Critical Debate towards students’ speaking achievement at the second grade students of MA Darul Qur’an Bengkel in academic year 2017/2018.
