SummaryThis article considers why whole-person care is often aspired to but remains problematic for psychiatry. One reason is that psychiatry wants to use ideas about the self in restricted senses rather than examine the idea as a whole. In particular, this includes wider issues that interconnect values to identity, which then ambiguously get raised in clinical practice, such as questions about who it is good to be. This issue is the context behind unresolved boundary disputes in mental health around well-being, spirituality, self-esteem and recovery, and reflects broader cultural tensions about the making of modern identity best understood in a historical context. It has impacts on service design, therapeutics and training. Suggestions are made about how the self can be approached in psychiatric practice.

Mental Well-Being is an integral part of good mental health and indicator of the ability of the individuals to cope up with daily stresses and work productively. Many predisposed and acquired factors influence the Mental Well-Being of an individual. The present study investigated the Self- Esteem and Personality traits as the predictors of mental well being. The results indicated that Neuroticism, Extraversion and Openness to experience came out as significant predictors of Mental Well-Being.

ABSTRAKSelf Help Group merupakan kelompok-kelompok termasuk orang dengan ikatan bersama yang secara sukarela datang bersama-sama untuk berbagi, menjangkau dan belajar satu sama lain dalam lingkungan yang terpercaya, mendukung dan terbuka (Knight, 2014). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah Menganalisis pengaruh Pengaruh Self Help Group  Terhadap Tingkat Harga Diri Keluarga Dengan Penderita Skizofrenia Di Poli Jiwa Puskesmas KalitiduDesain penelitian ii menggunakan Pre eksperiment dengan pendekatan one group pre-posttest design. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah Seluruh keluarga penderita Skizofrenia di PKU Jiwa Kalitidu yang berjumlah 32 dengan teknik total sampling diperoleh 32 responden. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuesioner Harga diri. Kemudian penelitian ini dianalisa menggunakan wilcoxon sign rank.Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari sebagian responden mempunyai tingkat harga diri rendah yaitu terdapat 18 (56,2%) responden sebelum di beri self help group sedangkan setelah diberikan Self Help group menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden mempunyai harga diri tinggi yaitu terdapat 25 (78,1%)  responden. Berdasarkan uji statistik dengan menggunakan SPSS uji Wilcoxon  Signed Ranks antara nilai pre test dan post test menunjukkan bahwa kondisi responden sebelum dan setelah dilakukan intervensi dengan self help group pada harga diri dengan  nilai uji wilcoxon  sebesar 0, 001 dengan nilai kesalahan sebesar   0,05.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan ada pengaruh dari Self Help Group terhadap harga diri  keluarga dengan penderita depresi di poli jiwa puskesmas kalitidu Bojonegoro. Diharapkan para keluarga dengan penderita depresi di poli jiwa puskesmas kalitidu bojonegoro tetap aktif dalam mengikuti kegiatan Self Help Group di poli jiwa puskesmas kalitidu bojonegoro sehingga keluarga mampu meningkatkan harga diri. Kata Kunci       : Self Help Group, Harga diri, Skizofrenia  ABSTRACTSelf Help Groups are groups including people with common ties who voluntarily come together to share, reach out and learn from each other in a trusted, supportive and open environment (Knight, 2014). The purpose of this study was to Analyze the effect of Self Help Group Influence on the Self-Esteem Level of Family with Schizophrenia Patients in Psychiatric Poly at Puskesmas Kalitidu. This research design uses Pre experiment with one group pre-posttest design approach. The population in this study were all families of Schizophrenics in PKU Kalitidu Mental, amounting to 32 with a total sampling technique obtained by 32 respondents. The instrument used was the self-esteem questionnaire. Then this study was analyzed using Wilcoxon sign rank.From the results of the study showed that more than a few respondents had low levels of self-esteem, there were 18 (56.2%) respondents before being given a self-help group while after being given a Self-Help group showed that most respondents had high self-esteem ie there were 25 (78 , 1%) of respondents. Based on statistical tests using the SPSS Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test between the pre test and post test values indicate that the condition of respondents before and after intervention with self help groups on self-esteem with Wilcoxon test values of 0, 001 with an error value of 0.05. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that there is an effect of the Self Help Group on the self-esteem of families with depressed patients at the mental health clinic of Bojonegoro kalitidu. It is expected that families with depression sufferers at the Kalitidu Bojonegoro mental health clinic remain active in participating in the Self Help Group activities in the mental health clinic at Kalitidu Bojonegoro so that families are able to increase self-esteem.Keywords         : Self Help Group, Self-Esteem, Schizophreni

As a consequence of the Spring 2020 lockdown that occurred in Spain due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people lost their jobs or had to be furloughed. The objective of this study is to analyse the influence of the latter changes in labour market status on psychological well-being. For this purpose, an ad-hoc questionnaire featuring socio-demographic and mental health criteria was created. Granted that the pandemic can be viewed as an exogenous shock, the bias caused by the bidirectional problems between the work situation and mental well-being can be tackled. Results indicate that the lockdown exerted a greater negative effect on the self-perceived well-being of unemployed and furloughed persons than on those in employment. Moreover, among those in continuous employment, teleworkers experienced a lesser degree of self-perceived well-being post lockdown as compared to those people remaining in the same work location throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Finally, the lockdown provoked worse effects on the self-perceived well-being of women as compared to men, a result that appears to be related to gender differences in household production. In conclusion, these results could be especially relevant given that the evolution of the pandemic is having ongoing effects on employment and, therefore, on the mental health of workers.

Abstract Purpose Sense of coherence (SOC) represents coping and can be considered an essential component of mental health. SOC correlates with mental health and personality, but the background of these associations is poorly understood. We analyzed the role of genetic factors behind the associations of SOC with mental health, self-esteem and personality using genetic twin modeling and polygenic scores (PGS). Methods Information on SOC (13-item Orientation of Life Questionnaire), four mental health indicators, self-esteem and personality (NEO Five Factor Inventory Questionnaire) was collected from 1295 Finnish twins at 20–27 years of age. Results In men and women, SOC correlated negatively with depression, alexithymia, schizotypal personality and overall mental health problems and positively with self-esteem. For personality factors, neuroticism was associated with weaker SOC and extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness with stronger SOC. All these psychological traits were influenced by genetic factors with heritability estimates ranging from 19 to 66%. Genetic and environmental factors explained these associations, but the genetic correlations were generally stronger. The PGS of major depressive disorder was associated with weaker, and the PGS of general risk tolerance with stronger SOC in men, whereas in women the PGS of subjective well-being was associated with stronger SOC and the PGSs of depression and neuroticism with weaker SOC. Conclusion Our results indicate that a substantial proportion of genetic variation in SOC is shared with mental health, self-esteem and personality indicators. This suggests that the correlations between these traits reflect a common neurobiological background rather than merely the influence of external stressors.

An essential component of youths’ successful development is learning to appropriately respond to emotions, including the ability to recognize, identify and describe one’s feelings. Emotional competence refers to one’s ability to express or release one’s inner feelings or emotions. Self-esteem reflects a person’s overall subjective emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. General well being refers to the harmonious functioning of the physical as well as psychological aspects of the personality, giving satisfaction to the self and benefit to the society. The present study focuses on the self esteem and general well being in adolescents with low vs high emotional competence. For this purpose, first of all emotional competence scale was administered on 260 adolescents within the age range of 15-18 years, to identify the low emotionally competent and high emotionally competent adolescents. After the sample selection of 152 subjects (76 low emotionally competent and 76 high emotionally competent) Rosenberg’s Self-esteem scale and General well being scale were administered. Results indicate that high emotionally competent adolescents have high self-esteem and better general well being than low emotionally competent adolescents.

Introducción: La Inteligencia emocional, resiliencia y autoestima son conceptos relacionados con el desarrollo personal. Las personas que presentan discapacidad física, la percepción de las diferentes situaciones a las que tienen que enfrentarse pueden influir en sus emociones y comportamiento.Objetivo: Analizar las diferencias o similitudes entre las personas con discapacidad y sin discapacidad en el ámbito de la inteligencia emocional, la resiliencia y la autoestima. Metodología: Estudio cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo, transversal, y prospectivo, utilizando las escalas de la Inteligencia emocional TMMS-24, la escala de la Resiliencia CD-RISC10 y la escala de la autoestima de Rosemberg, con un total de 100 participantes. Resultados: Las personas con discapacidad física presentan medias estadísticamente superiores en inteligencia emocional y resiliencia, aunque en autoestima las personas sin discapacidad presentan medias superiores. Discusión: Distintos autores ponen de manifiesto que las emociones juegan un papel fundamental en el bienestar de los individuos. En el caso de las enfermedades que implican discapacidad física, afectan a los diferentes aspectos de la vida de las personas, por lo tanto se hace más necesario aún el buen manejo emocional para evitar que la persona sufra mayores consecuencias físicas y/o emocionales. Conclusiones: Las personas con discapacidad física presentan unos niveles adecuados de inteligencia emocional en sus diferentes dimensiones, desarrollando estrategias de afrontamiento que les permiten hacer frente a dichas dificultades. La autoestima de las personas con discapacidad física, se ve mermada por la baja percepción de control independiente. People who have physical disabilities, the perception of the different situations that have to face may influence emotions and behavior.Objective: Analyze the differences or similarities between people with disabilities and without disabilities in the field of emotional intelligence, resilience and self-esteem.Methodology: Type descriptive, transversal and prospective, quantitative study using the scales of the emotional intelligence TMMS-24, the scale of the Resilience CD-RISC10 and the scale of the Rosenberg self-esteem, with a total of 100 participants.Results: Persons with physical disabilities present mean statistically higher on emotional intelligence and resilience, although regarding self-esteem people without disabilities have an upper mean.Discussion: Different authors have shown that emotions play a fundamental role in the well-being of individuals. In the case of diseases that involve physical disability, affect different aspects of the life of people, therefore even good emotional management is necessary most to avoid that the person may suffer greater consequences physical and/or emotional.Findings: Persons with physical disability have adequate levels of emotional intelligence in its different dimensions, developing coping strategies that enable them to cope with such difficulties. The self-esteem of people with physical disabilities is weakened by the low perception of independent control.

Education and training of medical students and postgraduate residents must undergo a critical review in light of the changing times and attitudes. The demands of life in general are enough to provide significant stressors for today's students in addition to coping with pressures of balancing passing exams with meeting the expectations of family and instructors. This chapter will highlight the realities of the effect of the pressures of study on the students' mental health and well-being. It will then describe several changes that can be made to the way medical students are trained which then shifts the focus to personal growth and development and away from the traditional goals of knowledge, skills and competencies for the goal of passing the exams. In the end, this chapter will challenge readers and institutions to pause and reconsider the current approach to training of medical students.

The aim of this study is to investigate the longitudinal influence of self-esteem on romantic and coparental relationship quality. The data were drawn from the German Family Panel, pairfam. Parents ( n couples = 2,364) were assessed three times over 4 years. The results indicated that romantic and coparental quality decreased over time, while self-esteem remained stable. The self-esteem of both parents predicted initial romantic and coparental quality. Additionally, mothers’ self-esteem reduced the decline in romantic quality. Finally, romantic quality mediated the relationship between parents’ self-esteem and coparental quality. These results suggest that self-esteem might be a resource for the parental couple and even for the family unit, as romantic and coparental quality are key elements for the well-being of both parent and child.
