Introduction. The article raises the issue of the use of health technologies in general secondary education. Emphasis is place on the fitness model of health technologies. Aim is to reveal the features of the physical culture and health model of health technologies and the results of experimental testing of the use of such a model in general secondary education. Material and methods. The following methods of research were used in scientific work: theoretical (analysis and generalization of scientific literature on the research problem) and empirical (observation, questionnaire, pedagogical research). Results. The results of the study prove that the level of physical activity of school children is mostly due to the organization of physical education at school and their involvement in various forms of physical activity in extracurricul aractivities, given that physical education lessons two or three times a week donot provide the necessary physical mode. Deficiency of motor activity is satisfied only by 20-30%. Indicators of physical activity for schoolchildren should be 10-15 hours per week, which are recommended by the WHO. This is what should be taken into account when planning and conducting physical education lessons and the organization of physical culture and health activities in generals econdary education. Conclusions. The monitoring of physical development of students in grades 4-8, inparticular the physical fitness of girls in experimental educational institutions, where a physical culture and health model of health technologies has been introduced, showed a significant advantage (compared to other educational institutions) in most indicators, especially functional readiness. Extracurricular sports activities and four physical education lessons per week were used to some extent. The boys have less pronounced indicators of significant changes, perhaps it should be noted only the 8th grade and 4th grade. This indicator, obviously, can be explained by the leveling of additional extracurricul aractivities for boys that they are more active in physical activity outside of school (sports, indoor soccer, etc.).

Background: Monitoring of physical activity within the educational institution is of great importance, primarily because of the orientation and content implemented in the daycare. This research aimed to examine the number of steps children took during their stay in daycare with regards to age, gender and the frequency of going out. Methods: The research was conducted in four daycares in the urban environment of Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia), where 231 children, aged 5 to 7, were monitored (129 boys and 102 girls). Data on the number of steps were obtained using the pedometers. Results: The result of the univariate analysis of the variance test confirmed a statistically significant difference in the number of steps in relation to the age of children (p = 0.04). Boys were more active than girls in both age groups (p = 0.001). Children who were going to the daycare yard three to five times a week took drastically more steps than children who went up to twice a week (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The results of the current study show that age, gender, and time spent outdoors are significant determinants of physical activity in preschool age. Therefore, interventions regarding physical activity should be made during early childhood in order to promote health and prevent disease.

There is limited information relating Ca intake to bone and height acquisition among Oriental children who consume little or even no milk. The present controlled study investigated the acquisition of bone mass and height of Chinese children with an initial Ca intake of approximately 567 mg/d who were supplemented to about 800 mg/d. Eighty-four 7-year-old Hong Kong Chinese children underwent an 18-month randomized, double-blind, controlled Ca-supplementation trial. The children were randomized to receive either 300 mg elemental Ca or a placebo tablet daily. Bone mass of the distal one-third radius was measured by single-photon absorptiometry, lumbar spine and femoral neck were determined using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Measurements were repeated 6-monthly. Baseline serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol concentration and physical activity were also assessed. Baseline Ca intakes of the study group and controls were respectively 571 (SD 326) and 563 (SD 337) mg/d. There were no significant differences in baseline serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol concentration (P= 0·71) and physical activity (P= 0·36) between the study and control groups. After 18 months the study group had significantly greater increases in lumbar-spinal bone mineral content (20·9v. 16. 34%;P= 0·035), lumbar-spinal area (11·16v. 8·71%;P= 0middot;049), and a moderately greater increment in areal bone mineral density of the radius (7·74 0·600%;P= 0.081) when compared with the controls. The results confirm a positive effect of Ca on bone mass of the spine and radius but no effects on femoral-neck and height increase. A longer trial is warranted to confirm a positive Ca effect during childhood that may modify future peak bone mass.

Introduction. A World Health Organization (WHO) conference on a “second wave” epidemic of cardiovascular diseases, directly linked to arterial sclerosis (AS), predicts that in 2020 cardiovascular diseases will most likely be the leading cause of death in the world. The development of AS begins in youth and progresses with age. It’s intensity depends on the risk factors involved, such as: smoking, hypertension, obesity and fat and sugar disorders in the body. Aim. The aim of this study was to establish the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases and their existence, among the youth of the upper gymnasium school. Material and methods. The research was conducted using 511 volunteer students from upper and lower gymnasium schools, between 16-19 years of age. Our research methods included: a diagnostic questionnaire, the measurement of blood pressure (BP) and anthropometric measurements. In the statistical study, we used chi-square independence testing, the V-Kramer test and the tau-b Kendall test; the level of changes α = 0.05 – was used. Results. Over a half of the study group (52.5%) was characterised with the lack of recommended physical activity, much more common in girls than boys (p = 0.000), just like smoking (p = 0.009) which was declared by 39.7% of the interviewed youth. In turn, a heightened value of systolic and diastolic pressure occurred more often in boys (19.6%) than in girls (12.1%); (p = 0.000 vs. p = 0.003). Excessive body mass was noted in 15.7% of the respondents, also more often in boys than in girls (p = 0.02), and abdominal obesity occurred in 10.2% of the respondents, with no significant differences between the sexes. 42.3% of the respondents showed one, 29.9% showed two and 18.8% showed three atherosclerosis risk factors. 9.0% of the study group showed 4 and more such risk factors. Accumulation of atherosclerosis risk factors occurred significantly more often in girls than in boys (p = 0.002). Conclusions. In all the respondents at least one atherosclerosis risk factor was found, and in over half of the study group, more frequently in girls than in boys, an accumulation of two or more risk factors was observed. Lack of recommended physical activity was the most frequent atherosclerosis risk factor occurring in the youth.
