This article presents the results of a documentary research regarding the current state of Organization and Representation of Musical Information (ORMI) in Portugal. Many authors describe the national scene of ORMI as very shortcoming, due to the usual difficulties: time vs. detail in the description and lack of knowledge of musical language by the technicians Information professionals. A survey of the monographs and articles as of 2011 that make a critical revision to the works of ORMI of several institutions was made, aiming to: 1) perceive their current state and 2) understand its strengths and weaknesses. We identified in these studies the analytic categories to create afterwards a classification structure by disciplinary areas, which shows semantic, structural and quality heterogeneity. The majority of Finding Aids are being produced by musicology projects with structures that respond to their information representation needs.

The purpose of this study is to understand the mediation strategies adopted in the representation of information in digital platforms, used in the Archive services, and especially if they are focused on the end user. So, we started by addressing the organization and representation of information in the context of information mediation, equating how the infocomunicacional phenomenon, which occurs through digital platforms, can result in the design of a "digital mediation of information," according to the current paradigm of Information Science. The mediation skills required of information professionals and the technological and digital user’s skills in information literacy were highlighted. Then, we tried to know the current state of use of digital platforms for Archives services, and software in use, in Portugal and other countries.

The article deals with the need for the formation of internal motivation as one of the most important components of pedagogical activity in teaching piano, which is based on the development of creative individuality of the student and provides a constant need to share emotional experience. Establishing such communication, mediated by a work of art, the "sensory fabric" of which is unfolded in time, concerns the immediate environment and circulation of the experience of previous generations with the constantly updated impressions of a student-musician who is faced with the world of classical piano music. On the basis of a deep inner interest, which can develop into a passion for the process of mastering the instrument, a special language of auto-communication is built, a sensitive attitude to one's own feelings, which is later reflected with the help of the musical language. This contributes to an increase in the general level of reflexivity and awareness, and therefore there is a natural shift in focus on the development of the student's personality in the context of solving urgent problems of mastering playing the instrument. The focus on getting pleasure from playing music arises as a guarantee of high-quality mastery of the skills necessary for creative self-expression. The work analyzes the research of domestic and foreign scientists. The authors give recommendations for increasing the level of intrinsic motivation in the process of learning to play the piano. The paper concludes that the main factors that affect the increase in the level of intrinsic motivation are the building of harmonious relationships in the learning process. To do this, the authors propose to expand the range of psychological and pedagogical training of teachers of musical art on the basis of studying the current state of psychology and behavior of student, introducing digital teaching tools in the process of mastering the piano as a condition for rapprochement between different generations

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the self-perceptions of university information professionals about the current state of their soft skills and to highlight the barriers faced in the development of such skills.Design/methodology/approachA sequential mixed method research design using a questionnaire followed by in-depth interviews as data collection tools were used to achieve the objectives of the study. Self-completion questionnaires were used to collect the data from 560 respondents spread over 33 universities of Pakistan. Then, 21 interviews were conducted with purposely selected library and information professionals at the qualitative phase.FindingsThe findings of the survey revealed that the majority of the information professionals perceived themselves “moderately competent” in soft skills. Only 14.8% information professionals considered themselves “competent”. The qualitative findings revealed that university library and information professionals generally faced several barriers in the development of their soft skills that included “lack of administrative support”, “lack of personal commitment”, “lack of financial support by the parent organizations”, and so many others, which might have affected their current levels of soft skills.Research limitations/implicationsThe possible limitation of this study may be the bias of the respondents, toward their self-judgment. During interviews, most of the assistant librarians were not comfortable and expressive. This might be due to lack of soft skills knowledge, interview anxiety and poor communication skills.Originality/valueThis research is the first study in Pakistan that dealt with the state of soft skills and barriers in its development among university library and information professionals having a large number (N = 372) of respondents.

This chapter presents research into the current state of investments in logistics. The research is based on a survey among 42 organizations on the topic of their governance of logistics investments, results of which reveal important information needed to assess the actual current state of investments in logistics and serve as a starting point to develop further insights into the field. In connection with the survey results, the situation in terms of investments in logistics is discussed. The main finding is that in this area, no useful framework, standard or tool to manage these investments is being used. Furthermore, it has become evident that we are faced with a lack of knowledge and awareness of their importance. The survey results also show that, in the terms of investments in logistics, there is much room for further development, innovation and change of existing practices.

Over recent years a new type of electron microscope - the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) - has been developed for the examination of specimen surfaces in the presence of gases. A detailed series of reports on the system has appeared elsewhere. A review summary of the current state and potential of the system is presented here. The gas composition, temperature and pressure can be varied in the specimen chamber of the ESEM. With air, the pressure can be up to one atmosphere (about 1000 mbar). Environments with fully saturated water vapor only at room temperature (20-30 mbar) can be easily maintained whilst liquid water or other solutions, together with uncoated specimens, can be imaged routinely during various applications.

This paper will review the current state of understanding of interface structure and highlight some of the future needs and problems which must be overcome. The study of this subject can be separated into three different topics: 1) the fundamental electron microscopy aspects, 2) material-specific features of the study and 3) the characteristics of the particular interfaces. The two topics which are relevant to most studies are the choice of imaging techniques and sample preparation. The techniques used to study interfaces in the TEM include high-resolution imaging, conventional diffraction-contrast imaging, and phase-contrast imaging (Fresnel fringe images, diffuse scattering). The material studied affects not only the characteristics of the interfaces (through changes in bonding, etc.) but also the method used for sample preparation which may in turn have a significant affect on the resulting image. Finally, the actual nature and geometry of the interface must be considered. For example, it has become increasingly clear that the plane of the interface is particularly important whenever at least one of the adjoining grains is crystalline.A particularly productive approach to the study of interfaces is to combine different imaging techniques as illustrated in the study of grain boundaries in alumina. In this case, the conventional imaging approach showed that most grain boundaries in ion-thinned samples are grooved at the grain boundary although the extent of this grooving clearly depends on the crystallography of the surface. The use of diffuse scattering (from amorphous regions) gives invaluable information here since it can be used to confirm directly that surface grooving does occur and that the grooves can fill with amorphous material during sample preparation (see Fig. 1). Extensive use of image simulation has shown that, although information concerning the interface can be obtained from Fresnel-fringe images, the introduction of artifacts through sample preparation cannot be lightly ignored. The Fresnel-fringe simulation has been carried out using a commercial multislice program (TEMPAS) which was intended for simulation of high-resolution images.

The ubiquitin–proteasome pathway is a principle intracellular mechanism for controlled protein degradation and has recently emerged as an attractive target for anticancer therapies, because of the pleiotropic cell-cycle regulators and modulators of apoptosis that are controlled by proteasome function. In this chapter, we review the current state of the field of proteasome inhibitors and their prototypic member, bortezomib, which was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of advanced multiple myeloma. Particular emphasis is placed on the pre-clinical research data that became the basis for eventual clinical applications of proteasome inhibitors, an overview of the clinical development of this exciting drug class in multiple myeloma, and a appraisal of possible uses in other haematological malignancies, such non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.

This paper is an introduction to behavioral genetics for researchers and practioners in language development and disorders. The specific aims are to illustrate some essential concepts and to show how behavioral genetic research can be applied to the language sciences. Past genetic research on language-related traits has tended to focus on simple etiology (i.e., the heritability or familiality of language skills). The current state of the art, however, suggests that great promise lies in addressing more complex questions through behavioral genetic paradigms. In terms of future goals it is suggested that: (a) more behavioral genetic work of all types should be done—including replications and expansions of preliminary studies already in print; (b) work should focus on fine-grained, theory-based phenotypes with research designs that can address complex questions in language development; and (c) work in this area should utilize a variety of samples and methods (e.g., twin and family samples, heritability and segregation analyses, linkage and association tests, etc.).
