The high salt concentrations found in irrigation formation of water in semi-arid regions lead to changes on crops growth and development and can lead to halomorphicsoils formation. In this context, it was proposed to evaluate the morphophysiology and production of colored herbaceous cotton BRS Topaz fertilized with nitrogen under a saline-sodic soil and submitted to the irrigation with water of different salinities. The experiment was conducted in an eutrophic sandy quartzarênico Neossol in the municipality of Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil, adopting a completely randomized design in 5x5 factorial with three repetitions, with five salinity levels of the the irrigation water (0 7; 2.7; 4.7; 6.7 and 8.7 dS m-1 at 25°C) and five levels of nitrogen (40; 60; 80; 100 and 120 mg of N kg-1). Regarding cotton growth, no effect was observed for the interaction between salinity and soil nitrogen doses. The absolute growth rate for height, stem diameter and leaf area decreased with an increase in the irrigation water electrical conductivity, being leaf area the most affected variable.The number of bolls and the cotton seed production per plant decreased with the salinity increase and increased with in increase of nitrogen fertilization.

Salinity is one of the major stresses in arid and semi-arid regions causing adverse effects at physiological, biochemical, and molecular levels, limiting crop productivity. In this research, three canola cultivars (Licord, Talayeh, Zarfam) were compared at 5 salinity levels (control, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM) for their catalase, guaiacol peroxidase, superoxide dismutase activity,proline and yield in a completely randomized design with 3 replications. In our study, we found that NaCl concentrations greater than 150 and 200 mM caused the irreversible disorders. Increased salt concentrations led to significant changes in the levels of antioxidative enzymes and proline in three canola cultivars. Also, yield rates in three varieties decreased in the presence of NaCl concentrations.

ABSTRACT Cowpea is broadly cultivated worldwide, especially in semi-arid or arid regions where soil or irrigation water salt contents can negatively influence the species’ productive capacity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphophysiological responses of cowpea genotypes to irrigation water salinity. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, under a completely randomized design with nine replications and in a 5x3 factorial scheme. Treatments consisted of five levels of irrigation water electrical conductivity - EC (EC0: 0.55; EC1: 1.60; EC2: 3.20; EC3: 4.80 and EC4: 6.40 dS m-1), applied from the 15th day after sowing (DAS), and three cowpea genotypes (G1: BRS Imponente; G2: MNC04-795F-168 and G3: MNC04-795F-159). EC increases at 35 DAS promoted stem diameter reductions of 8.0% (G1), 11.4% (G2), and 7.7% (G3), indicating different resistance to salinity by each genotype. Leaf area reductions at 25 and 38 DAS were 30.9% and 38.8% for EC0 and EC4, respectively. The BRS Imponente cultivar presented a performance superior to those of G2 and G3 in relation to stem diameter and stem dry matter at 25 DAS, and root-shoot and root-leaf ratios at 38 DAS.

ABSTRACT In Pernambuco, state in the northeastern region of Brazil, in the coastal areas, due to the intrusion of seawater, the waters used for sugarcane irrigation can have high salt contents and cause serious problems to soil and plant. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of irrigation with saline water on the physiology of sugarcane, variety RB867515, irrigated under five salinity levels of 0.5; 2.0; 3.5; 5.0 and 6.5 dS m-1 in a completely randomized design, with four replicates in drainage lysimeters. The study was conducted in the period from December 2014 to June 2015, at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE). Salinity levels were obtained by dissolving NaCl and CaCl2 in water from the local supply system (ECw = 0.5 dS m-1). Leaves were analyzed for stomatal conductance, transpiration and photosynthesis at 140, 229 and 320 days after planting (DAP) and for water potential at 137, 243 and 318 DAP. Increase in irrigation water salinity inhibited all variables at the respective plant ages and with greater intensity in the first evaluations (140 and 229 DAP) for stomatal conductance and transpiration. Photosynthesis and water potential showed the greatest linear reductions at the last data collection (320 and 318 DAP), respectively. Increase in salinity of irrigation water hampered water potential and gas exchange in the leaves of RB867515 sugarcane.

ABSTRACT The ‘Roxo de Valinhos’ fig is one of the most widely grown varieties in the world, however, there are still few studies on the phenology and yield of fig trees, especially in semi-arid regions. This study evaluated the phenology and yield aspects of the ‘Roxo de Valinhos’ fig cultivar in Western Potiguar. The experiment was carried out from July to December 2015 in the didactic orchard of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid, UFERSA. The following phenological aspects were analyzed: pruning at the beginning of budding, emergence and maturity of the first fruit, beginning of harvest, length and diameter of branches, number of fruits per branch, length and diameter of fruits, absolute growth rate, yield per plant, number of fruits per plant, and fruit weight. We used descriptive statistics; for quantitative and qualitative characteristics, we used regression analysis and means test, through Tukey´s test at 5% probability. Fig trees showed good adaptability to semi-arid regions and precocity when compared to fig trees from temperate regions, in all phenological stages; the studied cultivar showed promising results for cultivation in this region.

This research was conducted at Hatchery Fishery Laboratory in University of Muhammadiyah Malang on February 15 - March 17, 2018. The purpose of this research was to identify the meat bone meal (MBM) and poltry by-product (PBM) test on granule and the best treatment to the growth and survival rate of Eel (Anguilla bicolor) stadia elver. The method used was experiemental by Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 3 different treatments on granule composition, P1 (Commercial Granule), P2 (70% Commercial Granule  and 30% MBM), P3 (70% Commercial Granule and 30% PBM), and each treatment done repeatedly three times. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by ANAVA and continued with BNT test. The results of this study indicated that the meat bone meal (MBM) and poltry by-product (PBM) test on granule had a significant effect on the absolute growth rate, a very significant effect on DGR, and not significantly different on Eel. The absolute best growth rate was on P2 2.24 ± 0.71. The best DGR was on P1 (5.55 ± 0.33). Based on the research results, it was concluded that feeding the granule based on meat bone meal increased the growth and survival rate, and also could be the substitution granule for Eel ( Anguilla bicolor). Keywords: Anguilla bicolor, MBM, PBM, Growth

ABSTRACT Salinity is one of the main causes of crop yield decline in arid and semi-arid regions, requiring the use of tolerant species that allow cultivation in these areas. The objective of this study was to determine the emergence, initial growth and tolerance of pepper species irrigated with saline waters. The experiment was conducted in a protected environment (greenhouse), with a 5 x 3 factorial scheme, using four replicates of 30 seeds each. The experimental design was a completely randomized design, involving five irrigation water salinity levels (0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 dS m-1) and three species of pepper [E1 - Capsicum annuum (“Doce Comprida”); E2 - Capsicum frutescens (“Malagueta”); E3 - Capsicum chinense (“De Bico”)]. Pepper seedlings were grown in trays of 30 cells with a capacity of 0.1 dm3 of substrate. During the first 30 days after sowing, seedlings were monitored for emergence, initial growth and dry matter accumulation. As the salinity of the irrigation water increased, there was a reduction in the emergence, growth and phytomass accumulation of C. annuum, C. frutescens and C. chinense peppers. These species tolerate saline waters of up to 1.78, 2.71 and 1.55 dS m-1 respectively, in the initial development phase, with C. frutescens being the most tolerant to saline stress, and C. chinense the most sensitive.

Species of the genus Spondias, such as ambarella, are propagated primarily by vegetative parts. However, for planting it is necessary to use plant regulators. In addition to propagation related aspects, the availability of good quality water for seedling production in semi-arid regions is a limiting factor. The objective of this work was to evaluate the rooting of semi-herbaceous cuttings of ambarella using different concentrations of IBA conveyed in solution and talc, irrigated with different concentrations of treated domestic effluent. The experiment was carried out in a nursery with 50% shade in a completely randomized design in a 4 x 4 factorial scheme consisting of four doses of treated domestic effluent (EDT) diluted in water supply [E1 = 0% of EDT (100% AA - control); E2 = 33.3% of EDT (66.7% of AA); E3 = 66.7% of EDT (33.3% of AA) and E4 = 100% of EDT (0% AA)] used in daily irrigation and four IBA dilution managements (M1 = control without IBA, M2 = IBA carried in water at 6,000 mg L-1, M3 = IBA delivered in alcohol (70%) at 4,000 mg L-1 and M4 = IBA in Talc at 5000 mg L-1), with four replicates. The treated domestic effluent is viable for irrigation of ambarella seedlings in its diluted or concentrated. The use of 5,000 mg L-1 of IBA delivered to talc is management satisfactory for the propagation of seedlings of ambarella by means of semi-herbaceous cuttings.

ABSTRACT Cauliflower is a brassica produced and consumed in Brazil, whose cultivation depends on the adequate supply of water and nutrients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation depths and nitrogen doses on the production components and water yield of cauliflower hybrid Barcelona CMS. The treatments consisted of five irrigation water depths (0, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of the crop evapotranspiration) combined with five nitrogen doses (0, 75, 150, 300 and 450 kg ha-1). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with a split-plot arrangement. The effects of these factors were evaluated using the response surface methodology. The water yield of the crop decreases with increasing irrigation water depth; therefore, the yield is higher when water replenishment is lower than the recommended. The highest estimated total inflorescence yield is 24,547.80 kg ha-1, with a inflorescence mean diameter of 19.60 cm, a inflorescence mean height of 12.25 cm, and an inflorescence fresh weight of 858.90 g plant-1, obtained with an irrigation water depth equivalent to 132.09% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and a nitrogen dose of 450 kg ha-1. The highest inflorescence diameter and height are obtained with an irrigation depth equivalent to 128.70 and 108.20% of ETc, respectively, and a nitrogen dose of 450 kg ha-1. Therefore, the best productivity response of the Barcelona CMS cauliflower hybrid can be obtained using an irrigation depth greater than the crop evapotranspiration, regardless of the nitrogen doses.

The semah fish (Tor douronensis) is an Indonesian endemic fish that has a long growth, which takes 4 years to grow from larvae to broodstock. This study aims know of Daphnia sp. pelet fed with effective doses to increase the growth of semah’s fish larvae. The study was conducted from March 25 to April 13, 2020 at the Instalasi Riset Plasma Nutfah, Cijeruk, Bogor, West Java. The experimental design used completely randomized design (CRD) 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely treatment A (Daphnia sp.+pelet feed 0 gr/ L), treatment B (Daphnia sp.+ pelet feed 1 gr / L), treatment C (Daphnia sp. + pelet feed 2 gr / L), treatment D (Daphnia sp. + pelet feed 3 gr / L). The larvae of 9 days in age were randomly stocked into 12 aquariums measuring 60x30x35 cm with a density of 50 fish/aquarium and fed in the form of Daphnia sp. enriched pelet feed according to the treatment of 50 ind/larvae by giving 3 times a day which is maintained for 20 days. The test parameters measured are absolute growth in length and weight, survival rate, and water quality. Based on the results of statistical analysis (Anova), the results showed that the treatment D gave the highest influence on the growth of semah’s fish larvae (P <0.05) with an absolute weight growth value of 85,3 mg, absolute length growth of 10.6 mm, and survival rate 99.33%.
