AbstractThis study was aimed to determine the effect of different boron doses (boron free, pure boron with 8 liters per decare and in 1/8 ratio diluted boron) on the rate and quality of volatile oil in musk grown in Kütahya-Gediz conditions. Essential oil from Musk Sage was obtained by hydrodistillation method (GC-MS/FID). In the analysis carried out in 2017, the rate of essential oil was found to be 0.11% in the plant grown without boron, while it was 0.44% in the plant grown with pure boron. However, this rate was found as 0.23% in the 1/8 boron ratio application. The main components of volatile oil were found as follows: for the boron-free application—spathulenol 23.75%, caryophyllene oxide 19.41%, linalool 10.10%, and sclareoloxide 9.92%; for the pure dose application—spathulenol 26.67%, sclareoloxide 18.81%, and caryophyllene oxide 16.13%; for in 1/8 ratio diluted boron dose application—spathulenol 24.82%, sclareoloxide 16.68%, and caryophyllene oxide 14.86%. It has been observed that pure boron dose has a positive effect on the essential oil ratio and components of Musk Sage.

Mint is one of the essential oil-producing plants. Essential oils of Mentha spicata L or spearmint are widely used as raw materials in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical preparations industries. The main components of spearmint are karvon, limonen, cineol, dihydrocarvol, myrcene, and 0.5% menthol. The components contained in spearmint have properties as herbal remedies. Plant cultivation greatly determined the results of standardized drug ingredients. Cultivation with the right planting system can affect the quality of simplicia. This research were a descriptive study to differentiate the quality of plants. This study aimed to determine differences in plant morphology, chromatogram profile and levels of spearmint essential oil between hydroponic and conventional planting systems. Observation of plant morphology includes the size, color of the stem and leaves. Essential oil content is calculated from refined oil by steam and water distillation method. Spearmint oil was analyzed on thin layer chromatography methode using the silica gel F254 as a stationary phase and hexane-ethyl acetate (8: 2) as a mobile phase, with spot visualization under UV254 and anisaldehyde-H2SO4 . The results showed that the morphology of Mentha spicata L with hydrophonic  planting systems had a bigger size in stem and leaves, but the leaves had more bright green than a conventional plant. The chromatogram profile did not show differences in the number of spots and Rf. Mentha spicata L with conventional planting systems had a sharper intensity of color on one of the volatile oil spot, and suggested  due to menthol. The levels volatile oil of Mentha spicata L hydroponic and conventional were determined as 0.0326% and 0.0323% . The Independent T-test analysis  showed that there were not a significant differences.

Caraway has very low competitive ability against most of weed species. Therefore, it is important to choose a suitable herbicide control, especially at biennial caraway. The experiments with the herbicides applied in caraway were found in pure growth, with variety Kepron (with standard length of ve­ge­ta­ti­ve period). The aim of the trials was to find out the differences at achenes yiled and essential oil content after the treatment by the various herbicides, applied preemergently. Also, the selective ac­ti­vi­ty of individual herbicides was tested, including the different doses. The herbicides used in the ex­pe­ri­ments had enough level of selektivity on the plants of caraway. They had a positive effect on the yiled comparing to non-treated control variant in all observed years. There was no statistically significant difference in essential oil kontent between the treated variants and non-treated control. On the basis of these results, the most suitable herbicide was chosen for the „minor“ registration for caraway.

For more than a thousand years, Rhizoma Curcumae (known as E zhu), a Chinese herbal medicine, has been used to eradicate blood stasis and relieve aches. The plant Curcuma wenyujin, which is grown primarily in Wenzhou, China, is considered the best source of Rhizoma Curcumae. In this study, we sought to ascertain differences in transcript profiles of C. wenyujin grown in traditional (Wenzhou) and recently established (Haikou) production areas based on Illumina and RNA (RNA-seq) sequencing. We also examined differences in the main components of the volatile oil terpene; curcumin, polysaccharide, and starch constituents and related genes in the corresponding pathways, in C. wenyujin cultivated in the two production areas. We accordingly found that the essential oil (2.05%), curcumin (1.46%), and polysaccharide (8.90%) content in Wenzhou rhizomes was higher than that in the rhizomes of plants from Haikou (1.60%, 0.91%, and 6.15%, respectively). In contrast, the starch content of Wenzhou rhizomes (17.0%) was lower than that of Haikou rhizomes (23.8%). Furthermore, we detected significant differences in the oil components of Haikou and Wenzhou rhizomes, with curzerene (32.34%), curdione (21.35%), and germacrene B (9.39%) being the primary components of the essential oil derived from Wenzhou rhizomes, and curzerene (20.13%), curdione (14.73%), and cineole (9.76%) being the main constituents in Haikou rhizomes. Transcriptome and qPCR analyses revealed considerable differences in gene expression between Wenzhou and Haikou rhizomes. The expression of terpene, curcumin, and polysaccharide pathway-related genes in Wenzhou rhizomes was significantly up-regulated, whereas the expression of starch-associated genes was significantly down-regulated, compared with those in Haikou rhizomes. Difference in the content of terpene, curcumin, polysaccharides, and starch in rhizomes from the two production areas could be explained in terms of differences in expression of the related genes.

Introduction: Herbal treatments are a sub-branch of traditional and complementary medicine. People generally use it to strengthen health. It is mostly used with the advice of radio-television, internet and friends. Among the side effects, the most frequent allergic reactions can be seen. tandardized products should be used.It is reported that 80% of the essential oils of mercury (Achillea herba L.) must be monoterpene. Sesquiterpene group is guaianolite, germacranolite, edesmanolite and has anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, antimicrobial effect. As flavonoid routine, it contains apigenin. Quinine has effects that increase secretion and appetite. It is spasmolytic due to azulene and flavonoids. It is used in gastric mucosa irritations. It is defined as a gastroprotective drug. Azulene and camazulene give wound healing properties to essential oil. The symptoms of inflammation are relieving. Method: Plants (Achillea herba L.) Grown in July Organic Farm in Konya region were used. Analyzes were conducted in the laboratory of the Western Mediterranean Antalya Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Total volatile oil content flavonoid amount was determined in the analysis. The amount of essential oil of lavender plant grown in Konya region was measured by hydrodistillation method. Essential oil components were measured by GC-MS / FID method. Result: In this study, we aimed to present phytochemical analysis of mercury (Achillea herba L.)) Plant grown in Konya region. Total essential oil amount was found to be 0.62%. Piperitone takes the first place with 31.25% and p-mentha -1, 5-dien-8-ol with 14.49% and α-pinene with 10.61%. When the content analysis of European countries is examined in the literature studies, it is seen that the amount of Kamuzulen and monoterpene in the plants grown in Estonia region is higher than other European countries (Hungary, Greece, Moldova, Lithuania, and Germany). Millefolii herba is recommended as gastroprotective drug. It is also used after prostate adenectomy because of its antiinflammatory properties.

Virginian cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana L.) essential oil is an important component of a very large number of fragrances, used in cosmetics or household products. Clary sage (Salvia sclarea L.) essential oil is well known in aromatherapy for its sedative property. The essential oils of Virginian cedarwood’s crushed barks and clary sage’s leaves were analyzed by GC/MS. Respectively, seven and seventeen compounds; representing 78% and 94.13% of the essential oils, were identified. The main components of the cedar oil are cedrene alpha (25%) and cedrol (20%). The main components of the clary sage oil are linalyl acetate (69.4%) and linalool (11.9%). Cedarwood oil exhibits significant relaxing activity, influencing physiological and biochemical parameters in human. This shows repercussions on situational stress. Virginian Cedarwood essential oil activity is compared with clary sage essential oil, which proved to be less efficient on stress relief.

Abstract The purpose of our study was to compare the chemical compositions and antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Pycnocycla spinosa and Pycnocycla flabellifolia essential oils. cis-Asarone (62.5%) and widdra-2,4(14)-diene (9%) were the main components of P. spinosa aerial part essential oil, while elemicin (60.1%) and caryophyllene oxide (9.8%) were the main components of P. spinosa seed essential oil. α-Phellandrene (25.5%), p-cymene (15.3%), and limonene (13.3%) were found in P. flabellifolia essential oil. The inhibition zone diameters for P. flabellifolia essential oil were significantly higher than for the two other essential oils from P. spinosa (p<0.05). In broth dilution assay (µL/mL), the sensitive microorganism to Pycnocycla sp. (P. spinosa, P. flabellifolia) was Aspergillus niger, followed by Candida albicans. In 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) system, P. spinosa aerial parts essential oil (IC50=548 µg/mL) had higher antioxidant activity than that of two other essential oils.

The volatile oils obtained by hydrodistillation from Pycnanthus angolensis (Welw.) Exell., (African nutmeg), Myristicaceae, have been investigated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of the bark oil are α-bergamotene (25.1%), terpinen-4-ol (16.6%), α-terpineol (15.6%) and trans-β-bergamotene (12.9%). Only two compounds, spathulenol (82.0%) and caryophyllene oxide (14.0%), could be identified in the leaf oil. In addition, the volatile oils displayed promising antimicrobial activity against the tested bacterial and fungal species.

In this study, flowering aerial parts of wild Achillea millefolium growing on the Mediterranean coast (Sardinia Island, Italy) and on the Atlantic coast (Portugal- Serra de Montemuro) were used as a matrix for supercritical extraction of volatile oil with CO2 (SFE). The collected extracts were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS methods and their composition were compared with that of the essential oil isolated by hydrodistillation. A strong chemical variability in essential oils depending on the origin of the samples was observed. The results showed the presence of two type oils. The Italian volatile extracts (SFE and essential oil) are predominantly composed by α-asarone (25.6-33.3%, in the SFE extract and in the HD oil, respectively), β-bisabolene (27.3-16.6%) and α-pinene (10.0-17.0%); whereas the main components of the Portuguese extracts are trans-thujone (31.4-29.0%), trans-crhysanthenyl acetate (19.8-15.8%) and β-pinene (1.2-11.1%). The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimal lethal concentration (MLC) were used to evaluate the antifungal activity of the oils against Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, C. krusei, C. guillermondii, C. parapsilosis, Cryptococcus neoformans, Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. mentagrophytes var. interdigitale, T. verrucosum, Microsporum canis, M. gypseum, Epidermophyton floccosum, Aspergillus niger, A. fumigatus and A. flavus. The oils showed the highest activity against dermatophyte strains, with MIC values ranging from 0.32-1.25 μL mL−1.

Hydrodistillation of the flowers (BpFl) of and fruits (BpFr) of Bupleurum fontanesii Guss. ex Caruel gave two oils that were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The main components were α-elemol (16.7%), caryophyllene oxide (16.4%) and heptacosane (15.9%) in BpFl, and spathulenol (16.8%), caryophylladienol I (13.2%) and α-elemol (12.8%) in BpFr. A good antimicrobial activity against several microorganisms, including Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger, all infesting historical art craft, was also determined.

Essential oil of Chinese medicinal herb,Blumea balsamiferaleaves, was found to possess fumigant toxicity against the maize weevils,Sitophilus zeamais. The main components of the essential oil ofB. balsamiferawere 1,8-cineole (20.98%), borneol (11.99%),β-caryophyllene (10.38%), camphor (8.06%), 4-terpineol (6.49%),α-terpineol (5.91%), and caryophyllene oxide (5.35%). Bioactivity-guided chromatographic separation of the essential oil on repeated silica gel columns led to isolate five constituent compounds, namely, 1,8-cineole, borneol, camphor,α-terpineol, and 4-terpineol. 1,8-Cineole, 4-terpineol, andα-terpineol showed pronounced fumigant toxicity againstS. zeamaisadults (LC50= 2.96 mg/L, 4.79 mg/L, and 7.45 mg/L air, resp.) and were more toxic than camphor (LC50= 21.64 mg/L air) and borneol (LC50= 21.67 mg/L air). The crude essential oil also possessed strong fumigant toxicity againstS. zeamaisadults (LC50= 10.71 mg/L air).
