Abstract One emerging form of communication discussed in the present article is the use of visual self-representation as a tool for symbolic interaction between young people on the Internet. Using examples of difference and similarity in young women’s and men’s visual self-representation, the article offers an interpretation of these practices, pointing towards both new visual conventions and references to pre-existing media representations, thus revealing a process of hypervisuality. In this process of transformation, the involvement of new technologies, such as webcam aesthetics and its form of intimacy and authenticity, produces specific visual conventions within the frame of pre-existing media imagery, when the self is presented in online communication.

Fundamental societal transformations, facilitated by new technologies, are changing the way we interact, communicate, produce and exchange knowledge. By nature being a bottom-up experiment, social media are more and more involved into the everyday communication practice and become one of the major political communication channels.The purpose of this paper is to review the literature analysing the democratic citizens’ engagement and political participation in the era of the Internet, particularly focusing on the involvement of young people in the decision-making process. Moreover, a pilot case study is presented, reflecting the practices of politically active young individuals in the online communicative space. The data available are analysed to shed some light on the debate and to focus attention on several aspects of youth participation. Looking further, the questions are raised: is the Internet an attractive channel to enhance political interest and discussion among the youngsters? The present article introduces the results of the analysis of texts by Czech (Catholic) Christian young adults published in 2019 and 2020 on the website signaly.cz. This page is intended to unite Christians and support them in their faith. The texts are diverse in genre, their content is purely religious or secular, but it at least remotely touches on the issues of the spiritual life of man or his/her religiosity (“soft spirituality”). Posting on the internet testifies to the need for young people not only to strengthen themselves and others in their faith in God, but also to share trivial content that relates to daily life and behind which (in the background) they see God’s will, the expression of God’s love and wisdom.

Cyberbullying is a new, alarming, and evil phenomenon closely connected with relational changes that new technologies are causing in contemporary society. It consists in using the internet to harass, threaten, and harm individuals who are the weakest and most vulnerable. Victims of cyberbullying are mightily children and adolescents. In fact, young people are immersed in new digital technologies and use them without knowing their implications. In fact, there isn't the internet for children and the internet for adults. Both adults and children use the same devices, tools, and ways of communicating and interacting.

Advance in new technologies has created a new form of consuming television. Binge-watching can be highly entertaining behavior, but its excessive forms could lead to development of risk of addiction. The aim of the study was to identify psychological factors associated with symptoms of problematic binge-watching and to establish on what devices and platforms young people tend to binge-watch. The results of the study indicate that Polish university students usually binge-watch on laptops and smartphones by using the Internet—streaming platforms or other websites. Low Conscientiousness was the strongest variable related to symptoms of binge-watching from all the personality traits. Furthermore, results show that there is a significant relationship between low Agreeableness, low Emotional Stability, low Intellect and problematic binge-watching. Moreover, escape motivation was the strongest factor from all motivational variables.

Considerando-se o letramento e sua relação com as mídias digitais, entendendo que essa discussão tem encontrado espaço no uso da internet e na multimodalidade contemporânea, são necessárias as investigações acerca do letramento nas escolas e as possibilidades de utilização das tecnologias, o que justifica social e academicamente este trabalho. Assim, o presente artigo objetivou apontar possiblidades de uso das mídias e tecnologias digitais em sala de aula como ferramenta auxiliar na construção do conhecimento, partindo da aplicabilidade do Stop Motion. A metodologia utilizada é qualitativa, na medida em que, primeiro, explora, bibliograficamente, informações trazidas por diversos estudiosos dos campos de conhecimento abordados; e, em segundo lugar, realizou-se uma oficina com professores, na intenção de duplicar a metodologia de utilização do Stop Motion. Além disso, foram respondidos questionários pelos participantes da oficina, cujas respostas aportam um panorama em torno da problematização aqui apresentada. Os resultados da realização da oficina foram satisfatórios, haja vista que trouxeram um novo horizonte para os educadores, além de ter levantado entre eles discussões em torno da utilização das novas tecnologias em sala de aula como suporte no desenvolvimento autônomo dos estudantes, em suas relações com a construção do conhecimento e do pensamento crítico. Concluiu-se que, por um lado, o uso das tecnologias ainda é moderado e, muitas vezes, visto como um mecanismo de ilustração, não como formador do sujeito; e, por outro lado, que a técnica de Stop Motion é aplicável e não envolve problemas incontornáveis enquanto suporte e incentivo à investigação autônoma dos alunos. Palavras-chave: Educação. Letramento. AbstractConsidering literacy and its relationship with digital media, understanding that this discussion has found space in the internet and in contemporary multimodality, it is necessary to investigate literacy in schools and the possibilities of using technologies, which justifies the elaboration of this work socially and academically. Thus, the present article aimed to point out possibilities of using digital media and technologies in the classroom as an auxiliary tool in the construction of knowledge, starting from the applicability of Stop Motion. The methodology used is qualitative in the means that, first, it explores, bibliographically, information brought by several authors from the fields of knowledge addressed; and, secondly, a workshop was held with teachers, with the intention of duplicate the methodology of using Stop Motion. In addition, questionnaires were answered by workshop participants, whose answers provide an overview of the problem presented here. The results of the workshop were satisfactory, as they brought a new horizon for the educators, besides having raised among them discussions about the use of the new technologies in the classroom as support in the autonomous development of the students, in their relations with the construction of knowledge and critical thinking. It was concluded that, on the one hand, the use of technologies is still moderate and often seen as a mechanism of illustration, not as a person trainer; and, on the other hand, that the Stop Motion technique is applicable and does not involve inescapable problems as support and encouragement for the students' autonomous research. Keywords: Education. Online impressions ‘need not in any way correspond to a person's real life identity; people can make and remake themselves, choosing their gender and the details of their online presentation’. This comment came to represent the way the Internet was portrayed both in the popular media and within academic writing in the 1990s. Online communication was seen to hold the potential for unique opportunities to present the self: no longer constrained by corporeal reality, users could invent and reinvent themselves. They could manage impressions in ways never before possible. The Internet was described as the quintessential playground for postmodern plurality, fragmentation, and contextual construction of self. This article examines the process of impression management online and considers whether these conceptualizations of identity experimentation still accurately describe ‘life on the screen’.

The Y generation is understood as that born under the influence of the digital technologies. Now it’s represented by the young university students that created such a tight bond with the internet and its tools that uses them easily and frequently. Many works say that this generation of immediate young people accustomed to multitasking has developed a new kind of neuroplasticity entirely different of their antecessors and therefore possess peculiar habits and mechanisms of learning that should be respected and considered in the dynamics of teaching and learning, creating a pressure in the educational institutions to adequate in this reality. However, there are a few studies evaluating the real existence of these characteristics. Thus, we preset the conclusions of this descriptive qualitative project fulfilled with medicine students at Faculdade de Medicina de São José Rio Preto that aim to know how these students use digital technologies and the impact of their habits and behaviors regarding the involvement with technologies in their studies. The conclusion was that technologies are an important influence on student’s lifes, however continues to be one among several others, which allows the teachers to keep a fundamental role in the formation of these digital natives, especially helping and guiding them in the correct and full use of new technologies developed for learning.

The Internet of Things (IoT), a metaphor for smart, functional Cyberphysical Environments (CPE), is finding some usefulness in various sectors including healthcare, security, transportation, and the Smart Home (SH). Within the IoT, objects potentially operate autonomously to provide specified services and complete assigned tasks. However, the introduction of new technologies and/or the novel application of existing ones usually herald the discovery of unfamiliar security vulnerabilities, which lead to exploits and sometimes to security breaches. There is existing research that identifies IoT-related security concerns and breaches. This chapter discusses existing Digital Forensics (DF) models and methodologies for their applicability (or not) within the IoT domain using the SH as a case in point. The chapter also makes the argument for smart forensics, the use of a smart autonomous system (tagged the Forensics Edge Management System [FEMS]) to provide forensic services within the self-managed CPE of the SH.


The collapse of the USSR led to national and religious intolerance, actualizing the problems of tolerance in the modern world and in Russia. It is believed that intolerance towards members of one or another social community (ethnic, racial, religious, etc.) is shown by those representatives who do not have stable values and attitudes. Therefore, the problem of tolerance is relevant for young people. The article presents the first results of sociological studies conducted by the authors in 2015-2018 in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The region selected for research in terms of socio-economic development is stable and has a special ethnic-sectarian structure of the population. In order to study the features of the formation of civic identity of residents of a multi-ethnic region, in 2016 a survey of 1000 respondents was conducted. This allowed us to determine the indices of tolerance of the population of the Republic of Bashkortostan depending on gender, age and type of settlement. To identify problems associated with interethnic relations and the formation of a tolerant (intolerant) attitude of youth, in 2018 the authors conducted a content analysis of the most popular Internet messengers in the Republic. Content analysis has revealed the manipulative techniques that leading Internet instant messengers resort to. It is shown that these techniques have an impact on the formation of youth's negative attitudes towards representatives of various nationalities living in the republic. Numerous studies record an increase in the time that young people spend on the Internet for entertainment. It is important to encourage modern youth to use the educational, scientific, professional resources of the Internet, which, when used correctly, can help to improve the culture of young Russians. Social technologies for working with youth should be adapted to new technologies in the field of Internet communications. Addiction, dysfunctional use of "new technologies" and difficulties in limiting time spent using it, are not unusual due to the increasing usage of the internet. Young people, who are almost constantly connected, are particularly vulnerable. Recognizing the risk of pathological addiction, this paper explores the use of Internet, social networks and mobile phones among young people (N=310) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of the research is to examine the extent to which young people use the internet, social networks and mobile phones, and what consequences this has on the emotional, cognitive and social functioning of youth. The study was conducted using the most commonly used diagnostic tool for measuring internet addiction, the so-called Internet Addiction Test, and a survey questionnaire created for this research. Results of the study showed a mild level of "new addiction" in youth, which included emotional and cognitive preoccupation with "new" ICT, neglect of work, lack of self-control and social problems caused by preoccupation with the Internet, social networks and mobile phones.
