This paper deals with the comparative analysis of the possibility to apply both linguo-cognitive and quantitative methods in the study of structure of mental units, e.g. concepts. The current research continues our overall and integrated study of English ecological discourse and is the next in a number of logical research series of this scientific challenge The study object of this paper is WATER concept in English water management metadiscourse. The research is carried out on the basis of the original text of the EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60 / EC. The aim of the paper is not only to conduct a frame-based analysis of WATER concept using Svitlana Zhabotynska’s methodology of conceptual analysis (Жаботинська 1999) but also to analyse the concept occurrences in the researchable metadiscourse. In the present investigation, the conceptual structure of WATER concept is modelled through basic frame schemas and is considered as an open system. The research takes a new look at the application of linguo-cognitive and quantitative data analyses in the study of WATER concept in English water management metadiscourse.

Abstract This paper is aimed to critically discuss quantification as a methodological initiative in human sciences, focusing on important risks inherent to this activity, but also stressing its utility as a social tool and cultural amplifier in the context of specific situations. In this context, basic aspects concerning quantification are analyzed, particularly those referring to its connections with theoretically guided activities like modeling and categorization. Additionally, some important issues in the activity of quantification itself are described and analyzed: the search for general structures and tendencies in a set of data, measurement scales, distinction between description and inference, and finally, the interest of distinguishing random from systematic sources of variation. In the context of this last distinction, argument is provided concerning the limitation of quantitative methods in detecting verisimilitude, instead of truth. Keywords: data analysis; measuring; quantitative data-analysis.

<p>The main goal to pilgrimage is to achieve the predicate <em>haji mabrur</em> (a pilgrim that completely undergoes the rituals and principles) through its rituals. The Ministry of Religion, specifically the Office of Religious Affairs as the vanguard, has duties and fuctions one of which is to provide Hajj ritual guidance services to prospective pilgrims. This study aimed to determine the level of effectiveness of Hajj ritual guidance services at the Ministry of Religion in Eastern Indonesia, by measuring four dimensions broken down into six indicators namely managerial (committee and supervisor), management (planning and implementation), programs (ritual guidance material) hajj), and facilities and infrastructure. This study used quantitative methods, by distributing questionnaires to 900 respondents in 14 cities in Eastern Indonesia, using the Slovin formula with an estimated error of 0.03. The selection of cities was carried out randomly including Balikpapan, Tarakan, Makassar, Palopo, Parepare, Ternate, Tidore, Gorontalo, Kotamubagu, Kendari, Bau-Bau, Ambon, Tual, and Jayapura. Quantitative data analysis used the liker scale (1-4), and the data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the effectiveness of the pilgrimage guidance services at the Ministry of Religion in Eastern Indonesia with a total index was; 3.55 or categorized as "very effective", which were committee indicators (3.54) supervisors (3.47), (3.27) entire planning (3.32), services (3.26), program indicators / guidance materials (3.37), and indicators of facilities and infrastructure (3.34). Hajj ritual services at the Ministry of Religion need to be conducted sustainably through practices for all prospective pilgrims. In addition, The instructor  need to be trained better to improve in the mastery of the Hajj rituals, as well as the maintenance of regulations and facilities and infrastructure required in the Hajj ritual services.</p>

PurposeStudents in the marketing discipline have been reported to struggle with quantitative methods. This paper aims to focus on whether it is possible to increase student confidence and reduce anxiety with quantitative data analysis even when limited teaching resources are available. It reports on two half-day initiatives to teach quantitative methods that followed the principles of integration of method into a substantive course (as opposed to stand-alone course) and hands-on approach (as opposed to using a theoretical and hands-off approach).Design/methodology/approachOver the course of three semesters, 92 students that took part of the sessions answered a survey where they reported their basic understanding, confidence, practical abilities and anxiety with quantitative methods.FindingsThe results indicate significant improvements in self-reported basic understanding, confidence, practical abilities and anxiety. Further analysis indicated that neither gender nor previous statistical background had an impact on perceived benefit with the initiative.Practical implicationsIn all, the study indicates that integration and hands-on approaches may be beneficial to reduce anxiety and increase confidence with quantitative data analysis, even when this initiative is limited in time and resources.Originality/valueThe study presents an approach to reducing anxiety and increasing confidence with quantitative data analysis. Teaching initiatives like this may be beneficial in situations when students experience high levels of statistics anxiety.

ENGLISH TITLE & ABSTRACTTurkish Immigration to the European Union: The Case of GermanyThe objective of the paper was to evaluate the relationships between immigration from Turkey and economic indicators in Germany using  quantitative methods. Despite Turkey’s unclear European integration prospects, it is predicted that Turkish immigration to  established member countries of the EU will continue. The strongest waves may flow to Germany, Netherlands or France, where numerous Turkish minorities are already present and where the living standards are high. Results from the statistical analysis of the paper showed a positive correlation between immigration total and the growth of gross domestic product. On the other hand, a negative correlation of immigration total and unemployment was found and a positive relationship between immigration total and income total which is in agreement with the expected dependency direction. With regards to  immigration from Turkey it is less correlated to unemployment than immigration total. But there is a correlation between immigration from Turkey and the stock of foreigners in Germany This is in accordance with the theoretical concept of network theory where an existing community of migrants keeps attracting new migrants because the costs and risks associated with migration are lower, thanks to established linkages to the country of origin. The observed correlation of migration and unemployment points to the fact that immigration to Germany responds to changes in demand in the labour market. Even though a time lag may occur in the case of unemployment and immigration, migration appears to be a relatively effective mechanism to offset existing imbalances in German labour markets.

The EU’s 2018 Bioeconomy Strategy Update and the European Green Deal recently confirmed that the bioeconomy is high on the political agenda in Europe. Here, we propose a conceptual analysis framework for quantifying and analyzing the development of the EU bioeconomy. The bioeconomy has several related concepts (e.g., bio-based economy, green economy, and circular economy) and there are clear synergies between these concepts, especially between the bioeconomy and circular economy concepts. Analyzing the driving factors provides important information for monitoring activities. We first derive the scope of the bioeconomy framework in terms of bioeconomy sectors and products to be involved, the needed geographical coverage and resolution, and time period. Furthermore, we outline a set of indicators linked to the objectives of the EU’s bioeconomy strategy. In our framework, measuring developments will, in particular, focus on the bio-based sectors within the bioeconomy as biomass and food production is already monitored. The selected indicators commit to the EU Bioeconomy Strategy objectives and conform with findings from previous studies and stakeholder consultation. Additionally, several new indicators have been suggested and they are related to measuring the impact of changes in supply, demand drivers, resource availability, and policies on sustainability goals.
