The results of physical fitness level of highly skilled football players in the preparatory and competitive periods of the annual macrocycle are presented. The study involved 34 players of Football Club “Zorya” (Lugansk city) aging from 20 to 30. In the annual cycle of football players training season 2018/2019, the training process was carried out in accordance with the current program. An experimental program was used in the first and second preparatory periods of the annual training cycle in the season 2019/2020. Insufficient efficiency of the traditional program of physical training of highly skilled football players in the preparatory and competitive periods of the annual training cycle has been established. The athlete’s training level was marked by optimal indicators of readiness only by tests that characterized the explosive strength and joint flexibility. Experimental program was developed in order to increase the efficiency of the training process of highly skilled football players. The main feature of this program was the use of three innovative methods of modern fitness training: MAX®, Tabata, HIIT. Functional classes that based on the use of step platforms were offered instead of classical aerobics classes. The results of the physical fitness testing of FC “Zorya” football players at the end of the preparatory periods of the 2019/2020 season indicated a significantly better level of athlete’s readiness for the next competitive periods comparing to the corresponding periods of the previous season. Experimental program effectiveness was confirmed by the results of the FC “Zorya” team in the championship of the Ukrainian Premier League 2019/2020.

Aim. The paper aims to study the factor structure of physical fitness in basketball players and identify tests for a qualitative and quantitative assessment of their skills. Materials and methods. The study was conducted from September 2017 to May 2018 at Vyatka State University, Kirov. Fifty-three students were examined, all of them participated in the University Basketball Championship. A theoretical analysis of scientific literature sources and a pedagogical experiment were conducted. Mathematical statistics and pedagogical testing were used as methods. Results. Twelve tests were selected and checked for reliability that influenced most the physical fitness of basketball players in terms of strength, speed, jumping ability. Three hypothetical latent factors were identified that optimally determined the combination of these tests: “jumping ability / speed”, “explosive force/endurance”, and “strength”. Using factor analysis and an intercorrelation matrix, the most informative physical fitness tests were identified: standing vertical jump, 20 m shuttle run, pull-ups, which are used in the educational and training process of basketball players. Conclusion. The data obtained from the pedagogical experiment are of practical interest, primarily for trainers and university teachers. These tests do not require expensive equipment and can be performed in a gym, at the same time being the most informative in a limited time, which is typical for the educational and training process of students. This approach increases the efficiency of classes and optimizes the educational process. A comprehensive assessment of students will make it possible to track their health and physical fitness. Such data will allow adjusting the training process in the most effective way.

In order to compare their physical fitness, the UNIQUE Physical Fitness Test was administered to 203 retarded and nonretarded subjects with cerebral palsy from both segregated and integrated settings throughout the United States. The test was administered to subjects between the ages of 10 and 17 by professional persons prepared as field testers. Subjects were free from multiple handicapping conditions other than mild mental retardation and cerebral palsy. Regardless of intellectual classification, older subjects significantly exceeded the performance of younger subjects on dominant grip strength. Regardless of intellectual classification, older subjects significantly exceeded the scores of younger subjects on the softball throw and flexed arm hang. No significant differences between retarded and nonretarded subjects at the .01 level of significance were found on any of the test items on the UNIQUE test. The factor structures of both retarded and nonretarded groups were identical with regard to the items that loaded on specific physical fitness factors.

Military-applied sports are effective means of physical, moral and psychological training of servicemen for combat activities. A single universal program for training cadets by means of military pentathlon is not described in the special literature. The goal is to summarize the experience of building the training process in military all-around in military universities. 40 coaches of national teams in military pentathlon of 7 universities of Ukraine were surveyed. Results. Physical training of cadets by means of military pentathlon contributes to the formation of their professionalism - it improves applied skills, physical and functional readiness for combat operations. Sports result in military pentathlon to the greatest extent depends on the level of development of athletes' aerobic and speed-power endurance, as well as speed-power qualities. Most often, an obstacle course and throwing are combined in one workout. Regardless of the training period, most of the time is devoted to cross training. Conclusions. The opinions of the coaches on the key issues of building the training process differ significantly, which means that there is no single training methodology for military pentathletes in the universities of Ukraine. Research on the establishment of a scientifically grounded ratio of training volumes of military pentathletes is urgent.
