Tongue cleaning is a simple and quick procedure to eliminate organisms and debris on tongue. Tongue cleaning canbe performed by using a tongue scraper. This study was conducted to determine the correlation between the index ofOHI-S and tongue coating, and explain the knowledge of oral hygiene and a tongue scraper tongue at an orphanage inMakassar. Subjects were children of orphanage Ashabul Kahfi, who attend and agree to all the procedures. Dentalhygiene assessed by OHI-S index and examination of the tongue by tongue coating index. A total of 24 boys and 16girls were given questionnaires before and after counseling. The results showed no significant correlation between thetwo indices (p=0.382). Distribution of the questionnaire answers showed increased correct answers after givingcounseling. However, based on the level of education and gender, showed no significant differences in knowledgeregarding the cleanliness of the tongue and a tongue scraper (p=0.858, p=0.486). Significant differences were also seen in the comparison group who use and do not use a tongue scraper. It was concluded that there was no significantcorrelation between OHI-S index and tongue coating, but counseling would increase knowledge of the child orphanageAshabul Kahfi although there was no difference in knowledge regarding the cleanliness of the tongue and a tonguescraper based on education level and gender.

The article examines the social factors influence on prosodic manifestation of syntactic and macrosyntactic units. The data collected during suprasegmental analysis of spontaneous speech are used, which are directly related to the syntactic level, namely: the average length of a phrase in words and in syntagmas and the average length of a syntagma in phonetic words, as well as parameters associated with the design of the whole text: the number of composition blocks in the text, their length in phrases, the length of the whole text in phrases and words. The results of statistical modeling of the influence of the factors "age", "type of education", "level of education" and "gender" clearly indicate that the factors "type of education" and "gender" significantly influence the variation of syntactic and macrosyntactic parameters of an oral text. The factor "type of education" significantly affects the number of phrases in the text and the length of the text block in phrases – both parameters are significantly higher for the speakers who specialize in Humanities compared to those who specialize in Sciences. The length of the syntagma depends on the speaker’ gender – syntagmas produced by male speakers are longer.

ABSTRACT Introduction Tongue scraping and brushing have been appreciated for hundreds of years but are still appreciated or used by the public. Scientific evidence has validated the need to practice habitual and tongue cleaning as part of daily home oral hygiene procedures. Objective To assess and compare the effect of tongue scraping and tongue brushing on oral Mutans streptococci level. Materials and methods A total of 20 healthy subjects aged 14 to 15 years were randomly selected. Flat plastic tongue scraper and Nylon multitufted small headed toothbrush are the two tongue cleaning devise used. Unstimulated salivary samples were obtained at 4 intervals from each individual. Salivary samples were inoculated on Mitis Salivary Agar Plate and Sorbital Broth was used for identification of Mutans streptococci group. Results Paired and unpaired ‘t’ test were employed. Reduiction in the Mutans streptococci level from 48.4 × 104 CFU and 38.3 × 104 CFU at baseline in tongue scraping and tongue brushing group respectively to 0.34 × 104 and 0.39 × 104 CFU after 7th day. Conclusion Both tongue coating removal methods evaluated were efficient in reducing mutans streptococci level. This implies that physical removal of the coating on the dorsum of the tongue is important and not the method used for the same. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of the systematic use of comics as a literary-didactic method to reduce gender differences in reading literacy and reading  motivation at the primary level of education. It was assumed that the use of comics would have a positive effect on pupils’ reading literacy and reading motivation, while also reducingthe aforementioned differences between boys and girls. The dimensions of reading literacy and reading motivation were examined in experimental and control groups, before and after the intervention, by means of questionnaires and tests for pupils. The sample consisted of 143 pupils from second to fifth grade from two Slovenian primary schools in a rural environment, of which 73 pupils participated in the experimental group and 70 pupils represented the control group. Effects of the use of comics as a literary-didactic method were not found: using comics as a literary-didactic method did not have a statistically significant effect on pupils’ reading literacy and reading motivation. However, when the four-way structureof the research (taking into account the age and gender of the pupils) was considered, some subgroups showed a statistically significant increase in reading interest and attitude towards reading. No reduction of gender differences in reading literacy and reading motivation was found. Based on the results, guidelines for further research are established and suggestionsare offered for teachers’ work.

The development of informal sector in many cities in Indonesia, interests many scholars to analyse it. This research tries to describe and analyse the phenomena of under employment and gender discrimination in the informal sector at Surakarta. The research aims is to analyse the effects of education level, work experience and gender to productivity. The measurement of productivity uses level of income. This research tries to test the model proposed by Mincer (1974) and Jones (2001). The model contains of four variables, they are level of education, work experience and gender as the independent variable, while level of income is the dependent variable. To test our hypotheses we use double log econometric models. The setting of this research is micro retail entrepreneur or in Indonesia they called PKL. PKL, which become our respondents are those who locate in three PKL centre in Surakarta. Their location at around Monument 45, Manahan Stadium and Kotta Barat field. Our sampling method is purposive-sampling method and we interviewed 100 respondents to complete the data. The result shows that there are no positive correlation between level of education and gender to level of income. While work experience seems to have a positive effect to level of income. It concludes that there is a under employment phenomena in informal sector at Surakarta. While the hypotheses which said that there are gender discrimination is not supported.

Many microorganisms have been found colonizing the dorsum of tongue. To prevent infection and development ofother pathologies in oral cavity, tongue cleaning has been advocated to reduce the amount of coating andmicroorganism loading in the mouth. The aim of this study is to find out the impact of tongue cleaning using tonguescraper against tongue coating index and anaerobic bacterial colony count on tongue dorsum. This study wascarried out on 24 male and 16 female participants aged 11 to 17. Tongue coating index was used to assess tonguecoating and tongue samples were taken to count the bacterial colony. The result showed that there is a significantdifference tongue coating index (Wilcoxon Signed Rank test, p=0.000) and amount of anaerobic bacteria colony (tpairedtest, p=0.007)before and after using tongue scraper. In conclusion, tongue scraper can reduce tonguecoating index and there was significant difference in anaerobic bacteria colony count before and after using tonguescraper.

ntroduction: Detection and examination of proper number of lymph nodes in patients after rectal resection is important for next treatment and management of patients with rectal carcinoma. There are no clear guideliness for minimal count of lymph nodes, variant recommendations agree on the number of 12 (10−14) nodes. There are situations, when is not easy to reach this count, mainly in older age groups and in patients after neoadjuvant, especially radiation therapy. As a modality for improvement of lymph nodes harvesting seems to be establishing of defined protocols originally designed for mesorectal excision quality evaluation. Methods: The investigation group was formed by patients examined in 2 three-years intervals before and after implementation of the protocol. Elevation in count of harvested lymph nodes was rated generaly and in relation to age groups and gender. Results: The average count of lymph nodes increased from 10 to 15 nodes, in subset of patients whose received neoadjuvant therapy from 7 to al- most 14 nodes. The recommended number of lymph nodes was obtained in all investigated age groups. By the increased number of lymph nodes, rises also possibility of positive nodes found, that can lead to upstaging of the disease, in subset of patients whose received neoadjuvant therapy it is more than 4%. Conclusion: Our conclusions show, that forming of multidisciplinary cooperative groups (chiefly surgeon-pathologist), implementation of defined protocol of surgery, specimen manipulation and investigation by detached specialists lead to benefit consequences for further management and treatment of the patients with colorectal cancer.

Abstract Background and aims: The diabetic exempted from fasting by religion, wishing or not to observe the fast, is exposed like any other during Ramadan to a change in lifestyle. The objective of this study was to highlight the effects of Ramadan fasting on diabetes. Material and methods: Multicentre study on 899 diabetics was carried to collect data on the behaviour of diabetics with regard to the fast of Ramadan, biochemicals and anthropometry parameters. Results. The sample consists of 541 diabetic fasters (DTMF) and 358 no fasters. The causes of interruption of fasting were: hypoglycemia (82.4%), dehydration (44.5%), hyperglycemia (12.6%), high blood pressure (13.7%), loss of consciousness (8.3%). The risk factors related to fasting for DTMF were the type of diabetes and gender. Discussion and modifications about dietary, blood glucose monitoring and nutritional education sessions showed a protective effect against the occurrence of hypo and hyperglycemia and loss of consciousness. Decreasing differences were noted for Hb1Ac, LDL and Total-Cholesterol between before and after Ramadan. The weight of DTMF decreased in post-Ramadan (p=0.0000). Conclusion. There is a need to consider regular preventive measures based on public information on the effects of diabetes related complications and the benefits of a balanced diet combined with regular physical activity in nutrition education sessions.
