ABSTRACT Mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) and swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) are economically important marine commodities produced from the coastal waters of Sangihe Islands Regency. But those marine commodity products are usually only caught accidentally with a bottom gill net. There has been a special trap fishing gear for that resources, but not known well by local fishermen. Addition of squid oil extraction baits could increase the fishing power of mangrove crab and swimming crab traps. This research aims to study the effect of squid oil extract on traps bait to catch mangrove crab and swimming crab; and identify the types of biota captured. This research was done in coastal waters of Malise village, Tabukan Tengah District of Sangihe Islands Regency for 2 weeks September 2015; based on experimental method. Six unit traps were operated ten trips where three units of them used scad mackerel bait that injected with squid oil extract, and tree other units just used scad mackerel bait without extract; and the capture data were analyzed using t test. The catch was 142 individuals (135 mangrove crabs and 7 swimming crab); where 86 crabs was caught by scad mackerel bait with squid oil extract, and 56 crabs caught with bait without squid oil extract. The analysis showed that the use of squid oil extracts on trap baits increased the catch. Keywords: mangrove crab, swimming crab, trap baits, squid oil extract, Sangihe   ABSTRAK[1] Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) dan rajungan (Portunus pelagicus) merupakan komoditi hasil laut ekonomis penting yang dihasilkan dari perairan pantai Kabupaten Kepulauan Sangihe. The blue swimming crab (BSC) fishery in Tiworo Strait has been heavily exploited since two decades ago when its worldwide demand and price was very high. Study on population aspects of this organism in this waters is limited. The aim of present study was to investigate growth patterns, population stock status, and size at first gonad maturity of Portunus pelagicus. One of the main fishing ground of BSC around Tiworo Strait waters is at Bangko and Gala Islands. Samples of BSC were taken monthly using gillnet and collapsible trap. Each sample taken was identified its sex, measured its carapace width, and weighed. Data collected from fishing ground of BSC were analyzed to find out growth patterns, population stock status using spawning potential ratio (SPR) method, and the first gonad maturity (CW50). The results of study showed that growth patterns of BSC male and female following isometric growth patterns (b=0) (P<0.05). It was found out that SPR of BSC from both fishing ground was 22.46% and 23.71%, respectively which indicates that population stock status of BSC in Tiworo strait waters is “moderate level” (SPR > 20%). The size at first gonad maturity (CW50) was attained at carapace width of 9.16 cm for male and 10.16 cm for female. Those imply that BSCs allowed to be caught should be >10 cm.

Studies were conducted on catch assessment of some artisanal marine fishing gears operated in Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf areas from April 2014 to April 2015. Sixteen types of fishing gears were identified, of which gill net, beach seine net, estuarine set bag net, marine set bag net and trammel net occupy major fishing activities. Although estuarine set bag net (ESBN) is a legally restricted fishing gear recorded the highest catch per unit effort (CPUE) (110 kg/gear/day) in July followed by marine set bag net (MSBN) (105 kg/gear/day) in Cox’s Bazar and the highest CPUE was recorded 100 kg/gear/day by ESBN in June followed by MSBN (90 kg/gear/day) in Teknaf. Out of 52 species of fishes, the major fish species abundantly caught by these gears were Poa (Otolithoides argenteus), Churi (Trichiurus haumela), Loittya (Harpadon nehereus), Ranga choukha (Lutjanus johni), Lal poa (Johnius argentatus), Olua (Coilia dussumieri), Rup chanda (Stromateus chinensis), (Stromateus argenteus) and Ilish (Tenualosa ilisha). Besides these fish species, 10 commercially important shrimp species and 3 important crab species were also recorded during the study period. The peak season of availability of most fish species was June and July while lean season was December and January. This study indicated that Otolithoides argenteus) was the dominant fish species followed by Trichiurus haumela, Harpadon nehereus and Coilia dussumieri.Progressive Agriculture 27 (2): 228-234, 2016

Hammerhead shark is a type of predator shark belongs to the family of Sphyrnidae. This shark is so aggressive in hunting prey such as fish, squid, and shrimp. The hammerhead shark in Indonesia is included in Appendix II of CITES and has been a special concern in the field of capture fisheries. The aim of the study was to see the size spread, the number of catches, the first size caught, the age growth and the genital ratio of the hammerhead sharks caught with the base fish net. The study was conducted from October to December 2019. The shark measurement was performed once in 2 weeks. Sharks caught by the gills of the base (buttom gilt net) were measured using a roll meter. The collection of hammerhead sharks included total length (TL), number of catches and genital ratio. The analysis was done descriptively using the ELEFAN I existing on Sofwere FiSAT II. The results showed that the hammerhead sharks caught with an gill net of 65 tails from October to December 2019 were taken on the male genital. The total size spread of female malletic sharks were between 61.5-131.5 cm and male hammering sharks between 61.5-111.5 cm. The morphologically spread of the female hammerhead was relatively longer than the male shark. The male hammerhead shark was first captured at a length of 117.9 cm and a female hammerhead shark at a size of 106.2 cm. Hammerhead shark growth by following the curve of von Bertalanffy mallet were male Lt = 138,08 (1-exp (-0.480 (t + 0.0487)) and female mallet shark Lt = 138,08 (1-exp (-0.430 (t + 0.0434)). Such equations can be known by using the relationship curve model between the age and length of fish.

The blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is one of the Indonesian marine biological resources. The blue swimming crab is a main commodity of fisheries in Indonesia, both for local and export. Economic value of blue swimming crab classified as high involve over-exploitation of blue swimming crab and can lead to extinction. This research is aimed to determine level of vulnerability of blue swimming crab in Tunggulsari waters and to discover morphometry characteristic of blue swimming crab that caught at that location. The method used in this research is Productivity and Susceptibility (PSA) method. Interviews were conducted with 6 fishermen in the village of Tunggulsari. Measurement of water quality parameters including temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and pH. Morphometry measurement was carried out in one of the collectors in the village. The results of the interview revealed that fishermen in the village of Tunggulsari used 2 fishing tools namely bubu lipat and bottom set gillnet. Assessment of blue swimming crab productivity attributes is included in the high category, while the assessment of vulnerability attributes is classified as low risk for the use of both tools. The MSC value for bubu lipat is 96,0 and 98,2 for bottom set gillnet. The MSC value is more than 80 indicates that the level of blue swimming crab vulnerability at that location is in the low category. Further, blue swimming crab growth pattern in the village of Tunggulsari are negative allometrics for both male and female blue swimming crabs. This shows the growth in length and width carapace is faster than the addition of blue swimming crab weight.

Blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is one of the high economic value commodities which causes increased efforts to catch blue swimming crab in Indonesia. The effort of catching continues to increase the blue swimming crab resources in the nature that has decreased. Cirebon Regency is one of the largest blue swimming crab fishing centers in West Java with a total value of blue swimming crab production in 2017 by 7,347 tons/year. This research was conducted to determine the selecitivity level of the crab gillnet and collapsible crab trap based on the proportion and total of catches obtained in Gebang Mekar Village, Cirebon Regency. Research was conducted in September 2019 – October 2019 in Gebang Mekar Village. For this research we used are primary data; collected directly during the observations includes catch type and weight of the catches and then interviews with several crab gillnet and collapsible crab trap fisherman and secondary data; data from official agencies and some literature. Our research suppose the moonlight phase effect of the blue swimming crab catch. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the crab gillnet with 3.5 inch mesh size and collapsible crab trap that operated in Gebang Mekar Village may be called a selective fishing gears but crab gillnet is more  eficient as compared to collapsible crab.

Kata Kunci : Rajungan (Portunus pelagicus), Bycatch, Gillnet, PuriranoAbstrack : Catching crabs in Purirano Beach is generally carried out by small-scale crab fishing businesses, which use gillnet.  Gillnet is a passive fishing gear whose operation does not damage aquatic biological resources.  However, gillnet is a fishing tool with a low selectivity level, so it is feared that bycatch by-catch is more than the main catch (target species).  This study aims to determine the proportion of crab catches (portunus pelagicus) as the main target and the composition of gillnet fishing gear bycatch in Purirano Beach waters.  Swimming crab samples were captured using gill nets with mesh sizes of 4 inches & net width of 80 cm.  The catch during the study obtained 29 species from 25 families.  The preferred catch is crabs from the family Portunidae, but there are also other species that are also caught (bycatch), some are used (useable) and some others are thrown into the sea (discarded).  The total number of male crab catches during the study was 58 individuals (54%) and 50 females (46%).  The catch index dominance is relatively low, in the range of 0.21 - 0.27.  This indicates that the selectivity of gill nets is relatively low. Keywords : Rajungan (Portunus pelagicus), Bycatch, Gillnet, Purirano

Scomberomorus guttatus is a large pelagic fish commodity in Pangandaran Regency. It has the highest amount and production values, therefore it needs to be maximally utilized but remains its sustainability. The purpose of this research is to determine the most selective fishing gear for Scomberomorus guttatus commodities based on the frequency of Scomberomorus guttatus length, the proportion of the main catch and by-catch in Pangandaran Regency for sustainable and environmentally friendly capture fisheries management. The data used in this study are the number of catches, catch weight and length of the Scomberomorus guttatus catches from gillnet, longline, and beach seine. Data used in research collected during November 2018-January 2019 in Pangandaran Regency. Analysis data used in the study is the analysis of the selectivity of the types of catches and the selectivity of the length of the catchable Scomberomorus guttatus from each of fishing gears. The results showed that of the three fishing gears used to catch Scomberomorus guttatus, gillnet is the most selective and productive fishing gear for utilizing Scomberomorus guttatus commodity because it has a 43,2% of main catch, 84,6% of the feasible Scomberomorus guttatus size. Longline is a fishing gear that is only selective to the length size of the Scomberomorus guttatus that has a percentage of decent size catch equal to 86,4%, while beach seine isn't selective fishing gear and unproductive for Scomberomorus guttatus commodities due to it designed to catch a demersal fish.
