The concept of "motivation" and modern theories of learning motivation are theoretically substantiated and described: expectancy-value theory, attribution theory, social-cognitive theory, goal orientation theory, self-determination theory. Teaching strategies and pedagogical conditions that motivate students to educational and cognitive activities in the online environment, taking into account the theory of self-determination, are determined. In particular, in order to succeed in mastering something new, a student must feel competent (acquire the appropriate skills to perform practical tasks), related (feel belonging and attachment to groups or individuals), autonomous (feel that he/she controls his/her behavior and is responsible for its goals, capable of self-learning). The pedagogical conditions for the formation of positive motivation and involvement of students in learning online are substantiated and determined, namely: giving a student the opportunity to be an accomplice in the learning process; structuring educational materials in accordance with learning objectives; promoting student initiative and creativity, ensuring group activities and a multidimensional assessment system. The key to fulfilling the pedagogical conditions is the teacher's motivation to implement online learning at the level of the course author, mentor and tutor for higher education students. External and internal factors of motivation of teachers for introduction of elements of distance (online) and mixed (alternation of online and offline) training by teachers in the educational process of establishments of higher education are defined. Experimentally confirmed: positive impact on the motivation of the implemented online learning strategies and pedagogical conditions; revealed a significant direct relationship between the student's ability to self-development and self-learning and his/her motivation for online learning

The article is devoted to the study of differences in assessment methods of face-to face and online learning of a foreign language in higher education, in particular, the issue of the effectiveness of the assessment techniques used in different formats. Numerous questions that accompanied foreign language online learning in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years, as well as contradictory reviews about the assessment methods of students’ knowledge were the prerequisites of the study. The experience demonstrated that online learning differs significantly from face-to-face learning in a number of requirements for teachers and students. The aim of the study is to modify traditional methods of students’ knowledge evaluation and assessment in the form of credits or examinations towards greater independence and objectivity and achieve the autonomy of the assessment process. We carried a survey of students’ opinions on the effectiveness of the forms of assessment adopted at the higher education. Based on the survey results, recommendations are made for improving methods of students’ knowledge assessment system with respect to the educational format. The conclusions made on the basis of data analysis provide a number of changes in the methods of online assessment both in the educational process at higher education and in staff training programs.

The quality of online learning mechanisms, widely implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a significant issue for regional higher education systems. The research aims to assess student satisfaction with the quality of online education by identifying discrepancies between their requirements and the actual learning process. In order to examine the gaps between students’ expectations and perceptions, a new approach was proposed based on the integrated use of Gap analysis and SERVQUAL methodology, combining qualitative and quantitative aspects. SERVQUAL questionnaires for measuring student satisfaction with online learning include the following criteria: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy. Full- and part-time undergraduates of humanitarian and socio-economic departments of two universities participated in the study. Ural Federal University bachelors, learning via Moodle and Microsoft Teams platforms, could directly communicate with their peers and professors, while students of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI were engaged in massive open online courses (MOOC). As a result, all five criteria were analysed in the proposed model for quality assessment of online learning to reveal the gaps between students’ expectations and perceptions of the educational process. Significant discrepancies in the «empathy» and «responsiveness» criteria in both groups demonstrate low student satisfaction with the quality of communication and individualisation of learning. The research findings can be used to construct resource allocation models for implementing educational programmes and developing support measures for regional higher education institutions.

The research focuses on identifying the way in which Romanian universities managed to provide knowledge during the Coronavirus pandemic, when, in a very short time, universities had to adapt the educational process for exclusively online teaching and learning. In this regard, we analyzed students’ perception regarding online learning, their capacity to assimilate information, and the use of E-learning platforms. An online survey based on a semi-structured questionnaire was conducted. Data was collected from 762 students from two of the largest Romanian universities. The results of the research revealed that higher education institutions in Romania were not prepared for exclusively online learning. Thus, the advantages of online learning identified in other studies seem to diminish in value, while disadvantages become more prominent. The hierarchy of problems that arise in online learning changes in the context of the crisis caused by the pandemic. Technical issues are the most important, followed by teachers’ lack of technical skills and their teaching style improperly adapted to the online environment. However, the last place was assigned by students to the lack of interaction with teachers or poor communication with them. Based on these findings, research implications for universities and researchers are discussed.

The article addresses the problem of higher education - improving the quality of graduates' professional training, provides a brief analysis of research results, Recommendations on how to use the results “Quality of education” is a complex characteristic of education, the task of which is to train specialists who are competitive in the world market. It is impossible to develop a single, scientifically based system of indicators for the quality of student training, since the education system is different in all countries of the World, moreover, a different system of training students, which is one of the influencing factors on the quality of Higher Education. It is necessary to take into account the specifics of the university. One of the elements of the quality assessment system is monitoring, which is considered to be a comprehensive system for diagnosing the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the effectiveness of an educational system. The assessment of the quality of education should be formed as a cumulative indicator of all the qualities that influence the educational process. During the work we used the results of sociological research of the subjects of the educational process: students, teachers, monitoring of the educational process (academic performance of students).

The article is devoted to topical issues related to the elaboration of modular educational programs, syllabi being their necessary components. The purpose of the article is to draw the attention of teachers and students in higher education institutions (HEI) to the problem of educational and methodological support of the educational process focusing on the content and meaning of a syllabus as one of the important educational and methodological instructional documents. The phenomenon “syllabus” is defined, its essence and objectives within the system of methodological support for teaching an academic discipline are revealed. A syllabus to the section of General Physics "Optics" intended for the specialty 104 (Physics and Astronomy) has been developed and introduced into the educational process, its most important elements have been singled out. Since, according to the authors’ viewpoints, the development of a separate syllabus for the laboratory workshop is inexpedient, one joint syllabus covering the theoretical part of the course "Optics", involving laboratory workshops within the study of this discipline, has been elaborated. The syllabus of optics consists of 16 sections as follows: title page; the contents of the syllabus; general characteristics of the discipline; prerequisites; post-requisites; discipline abstract; the purpose and objectives of the discipline; the results of the study; the organisation of training; course topics; academic calendar of discipline studies; knowledge assessment system; course policy ("Rules of the game"); policy of academic behaviour and ethics; recommended literature (references) for mastering the course. The syllabus is supplemented with a glossary of terms in the form of an appendix, which will undoubtedly be of service to the syllabus applicants. The results of the study revealed the content and importance of the syllabus for the educational process; its structure for the section of General Physics "Optics" was proposed which, in the authors’ opinion, fully meets the requirements of the credit-modular system of educational process. The authors hope that the designated syllabus will serve as an example for other sections of General Physics and some other disciplines. One of the authors has applied the structure of the developed syllabus with corresponding changes in its content for developing a syllabus of the discipline "Profession-targeted Foreign Language (English)".

The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of Achievement Goal Motivation Theory on students’expectancies for success, beliefs about ability, usefulness, importance and interest for the mathematics subject.Research asserts that possessing mastery-learning- oriented motivation has a more positive impact on students’expectancies for success, beliefs about ability, usefulness, importance and interest for mathematics. This researchapplies a quantitative method of study. Quantitative data have been analysed using Wigfield and Eccles’sExpectancy–Value Theory Achievement Questionnaire in order to assess student’s expectancies for success, abilitybeliefs and subjective task values. In the case study of a private Suleyman Sah University, Turkey, the focus of thequestionnaire has been derived from the central research question: How applications of Achievement Goal Theoryaffect students’ expectancies for success, beliefs about ability, usefulness, importance and interest for mathematics? The questionnaire was given to 40 students who were selected randomly in mathematics class. Also, in order toidentify students’ goal orientation, Elliot’s AGQ (Achievement Goal Questionnaire) was applied to those students.Their Achievement Goal motivation types were compared to their beliefs about ability, usefulness, importance andinterest for mathematics. Based on the quantitative data analysis, it was concluded that students with masterylearninggoal orientation have more expectancies for success, for them mathematics is a more useful and importantsubject, and, most importantly, they show more interest for the subject. These are very important components tobe persistent in the face of difficulties and obstacles on the way to achievement in teaching mathematics.
