ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to determine whether physical fitness is related to nutritional status in a sample of female adolescents with anorexia nervosa, to contrast the nourished and undernourished patients, and to compare the physical fitness in these patients with normative data of healthy subjects stratified by age and gender. Methods Nutritional status was determined using the body mass index Z-score, fat mass, fat-free mass (bioelectrical impedance analysis), and the Controlling Nutritional Status score in 15 anorexic adolescents with 14.3±1.6 years. Physical fitness was assessed using the ALPHA-Fitness Battery (handgrip strength, standing broad jump, 4x10m shuttle run, and 20m shuttle run tests). Results Handgrip strength was significantly associated with all variables of nutritional status, except with the three blood components of the Controlling Nutritional Status score. The undernourished anorexic patients showed significantly worse physical fitness than the nourished anorexic patients in all tests, except in the standing broad jump and the 4x10m shuttle run tests. The physical fitness tests of the female anorexic adolescents showed scores significantly worse than those of the normative European female adolescent population. Conclusion The observation of female adolescents with anorexia nervosa showed associations between higher physical fitness levels and better nutritional statuses. Handgrip strength and 20m shuttle run tests may be options of additional indicators of undernutrition in anorexic female adolescents. The undernourished anorexic patients showed worse physical fitness than the nourished ones. According to normative data for healthy sex- and agematched adolescents, physical fitness is severely impaired in anorexic female adolescents.

ABSTRAK Data Riskesdas 2018 menunjukkan bahwa 25,7% remaja usia 13-15 tahun dan 26,9% remaja usia 16-18 tahun dengan status gizi pendek dan sangat pendek. Selain itu terdapat 8,7% remaja usia 13-15 tahun dan 8,1% remaja usia 16-18 tahun dengan kondisi kurus dan sangat kurus. Sedangkan prevalensi berat badan lebih dan obesitas sebesar 16,0% pada remaja usia 13-15 tahun dan 13,5% pada remaja usia 16-18 tahun. Data tersebut merepresentasikan kondisi gizi pada remaja di Indonesia yang harus diperbaiki. Berdasarkan baseline survey UNICEF pada tahun 2017, ditemukan adanya perubahan pola makan dan aktivitas fisik pada remaja. Gizi merupakan salah satu faktor utama penentu kualitas hidup dan sumber daya manusia. Tujuan penelitian Untuk mengetahui hubungan perilaku makan terhadap status gizi pada siswi SMAN 2 Tambang 2018. Penelitian ini mengunakan jenis kuantitatif analitik dengan desain cross sectional.  Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa putri SMAN 2 Tambang dari kelas XI sebanyak 240 orang  dengan sampel sebanyak 71 orang. Hasil uji Chi Square didapatkan nilai p=0,01 (≤ 0,05. Ada hubungan yang signifikan perilaku makan dengan status gizi pada remaja putr di SMAN 2 Tambang.Kata Kunci : perilaku makan; status gizi;  remaja putri  RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EATING BEHAVIOR WITH NUTRITIONAL STATUS IN FEMALE ADOLESCENT AT TAMBANG STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 2 ABSTRACT  According to the report of Indonesian Health Research in 2018 showed that 25.7% of adolescents aged 13-15 years and 26.9% of adolescents aged 16-18 years have a short and very short nutritional status. In addition, there were 8.7% adolescents aged 13-15 years and 8.1% adolescents aged 16-18 years with thin and very thin conditions. Meanwhile, the prevalence of overweight and obesity was 16.0% in adolescents aged 13-15 years and 13.5% in adolescents aged 16-18 years. Nutrition is one of the main factors determining the quality of life and human resources. Nutrients are chemicals found in food that the body needs to maintain health and immunity; adolescents are one of the groups that are prone to experiencing nutritional problems. The research objective was to determine the relationship between eating behavior and the nutritional status of students at SMAN 2 Tambang 2018. This research method used a quantitative analytic research type, with a cross sectional study design. The populations in this study were all 12 students of Tambang State Senior High School 2 from class XI totaling 240 students. The sample in this study was some of the 71 class students. The results of the Chi Square test showed that the value of p = 0.01 (≤ 0.05), this means that statistically there is a relationship between eating behavior and nutritional status in young girls. Keywords: eating behavior; nutritional status; female adolescent

Background: Taekwondo is a physical activity or body movement that is conducted repeatedly with muscles as the most active organ. The problems that occurs to the athletes is the poor-organized consumption pattern, thus they lack of nutritional intake. The good nutritional intake is obtained from the sufficient nutritional intake so that the physical fitness becomes better. Meanwhile, young adults require sufficient nutritional intake so that their physical fitness can be better.Objective: This research aimed to analyze the relationship between the nutritional intake and nutrition status with the physical fitness of the university students joining the student activity unit of taekwondo in Universitas Airlangga Surabaya.Methods: This research was the analytical research with the cross-sectional design. The sample of the research was as many as 52 people who were acquired by utilizing the simple random sampling. The data collection included nutritional status by measuring the weight and height to figure out the Body Mass Index (BMI) and 2x24 hours food recall to understand the food intake.Results: The result demonstrated that there was a relationship between the nutritional status (p=0.014) and the intake of energy, protein, carbohydrate, and fat (p=0.05) had no relationship with the physical fitness.Conclusions: It could that the nutritional status was related to the physical fitness. The respondents who had normal nutrition status obtained the good physical fitness. There should be the addition of information regarding the nutrients to obtain the good nutritional status.ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Taekwondo merupakan aktivitas fisik atau gerakan anggota tubuh yang dilakukan secara berulang dan organ yang paling aktif yaitu otot. Permasalah yang sering terjadi pada olahragawan yaitu suka konsumsi makanan yang tidak teratur sehingga asupan gizinya kurang tercukupi. Asupan gizi yang baik diperoleh dari asupan gizi yang cukup sehingga kebugaran jasmaninya baik.Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis hubungan antara asupan zat gizi makro dan status gizi dengan kebugaran jasmani mahasiswa UKM taekwondo.Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi cross sectional dengan jumlah sampel 52 orang, diambil secara acak sederhana menggunakan simple random sampling. Pengumpulan data meliputi status gizi dengan cara penimbangan berat dan pengukuran tinggi badan untuk mengetahui Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT), food recall 2x24 untuk mengetahui asupan makannya dan tes balke untuk kebugaran jasmani. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis univariat dan bivariat dengan menggunakan kolerasi pearson.Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan antara status gizi (p=0,014) dengan kebugaran jasmani sedangkan asupan energi, protein, karbohidrat dan lemak (P=0,05) tidak terdapat hubungan dengan kebugaran jasmani.Kesimpulan: Status gizi berhubungan dengan kebugaran jasmani. Responden yang memiliki status gizi normal cenderung memiliki kebugaran jasmani yang baik. Perlu dilakukan penambahan informasi terkait zat gizi agar tercipta status gizi yang baik.

Abstract Background Inhibitory control develops rapidly during the preschool stage, and development of inhibitory control in this period is significant for the healthy growth of the future. However, most studies paid more attention to children and adolescents in recent years, but less focus on preschool children. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the association between the health-related physical fitness and inhibitory control in preschool children. Methods This study was a cross-sectional study, 128 preschool children in Yangpu District of Shanghai were recruited by convenient sampling. The health-related physical fitness T-score (HPFT) was obtained by adding standard scores of six indicators: body mass index, handgrip strength, standing long jump, one-leg balance, 2×10m shuttle run test, and 20m shuttle run test. Inhibitory control was assessed using the flanker task and reflected by reaction time and accuracy. Results A total of 120 preschoolers were included in the final statistical analysis. After adjusting the confounders, HPFT was associated with reaction time (β=-2.49ms, 95%CI: -4.22, -0.75). Similarly, a negative association was observed between one-leg balance and reaction time (β=-12.04ms, 95%CI: -18.94, -5.15), and between 20m shuttle run and reaction time (β=-23.28ms, 95%CI: -37.00, -9.56). Compared with the participants in the lowest tertile, HPFT (β=-158.74, 95%CI: -309.63, -7.84), one-leg balance(β=-267.25ms, 95%CI: -420.71, -113.79) and 20m shuttle run (β=-215.58ms, 95%CI: -374.67, -56.49) were all negatively associated with reaction time of those in the highest tertile. Conclusion In addition, there was a non-linear relationship between HPFT and reaction time (β=-3.46ms,95%CI: -5.39, -1.53) when HPFT > 249. In conclusion, in order to improve the inhibitory control, it’s suggested that HPFT of preschoolers should be at least 249.

ABSTRACT Objective To compare body composition of postmenopausal women with and without dynapenia, defined by different cut-off points. Methods Body composition was assessed by electrical bioimpedance and the nutritional status by the body mass index. Dynapenia was diagnosed according to handgrip strength, using the following cut-off points: handgrip strength <16kgf and <20 kgf. Results A total of 171 women (50 to 92 years of age) participated in the investigation. The mean age of non-dynapenic and dynapenic women (handgrip strength <20kgf) was 69.4±8.2 and 74.5±8.2 years, respectively. The mean age of women with dynapenia (handgrip strength <16kgf) was 75.0±10.1 years and non-dynapenic women, 71.1±8.2 years. It was found that dynapenic women, with handgrip strength <20 and <16kgf, had an average of 2.38 and 2.47kg less muscle mass respectively, when compared to non-dynapenic women (p<0.05). However, there was no difference in muscle mass between the different dynapenic groups. Non-dynapenic women (handgrip strength ≥20kgf) had more total (3.55kg) and central fat (1.47kg) (p<0.05). Conclusion Dynapenic women, diagnosed considering both cutoff points, had less total and segmental muscle mass compared to non-dynapenic women. In addition, dynapenic women with handgrip strength <20kgf had lower total and trunk adiposity.

Background: Anemia is a major nutritional problem worldwide. In 2018, at least 1.62 billion people were affected by anemia, and 33% were school children. Anemia in female adolescents contributes to high rates of maternal and infant mortality. This study aims to analyze the determinants of anemia among female adolescent at the individual level and at the school level. Subjects and Method: This study used a cross sectional research design. The study was conducted in Klaten Regency in February 2020. Sampling used was probability sampling with a total of 200 female adolescents aged 15 to 19 years old. The independent variables include knowledge, family economy, menstrual pattern, consumption of blood supplement tablets, and nutritional status. The dependent variable is anemia. Data were collected by using the Easy Touch brand hemoglobinometer, weighing scale, microtoice and questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multilevel multiple logistic regression with a stata of 13. Results: The results of this study indicated that good knowledge (b=-2.29; 95% CI= -4.23 to -0.32; p= 0.022), family economy ≥Rp 1,947,821 (b= -2.73; 95% CI= -4.58 to -0.75; p= 0.006), regular menstrual patterns (b= -2.29; 95% CI= -4.58 to -0.75; p= 0.001), blood supplement consumption (b= -3.22; 95% CI= - 8.96 to -2.17; p= 0.001), normal nutritional status (b= -3.36; 95% CI= -6.65 to -1.74; p= 0.001) reduce the incidence of anemia in adolescents. Variations at the school level indicate a contextual influence on the incidence of anemia in adolescents (ICC= 59.36%). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant influence of knowledge, family economy, menstrual patterns, blood supplement consumption and nutritional status on the incidence of anemia in adolescents. Variations at the level of school indicated that there was a contextual influence on the incidence of anemia in adolescents. The age of adolescence (11–17 years of age) is characterized by the most intensive development of all organism functions and systems. The greatest heterochronicity of physical development and different functional systems of an organism is noted in this period. Therefore, it is of top significance to explore the changes of learners‘ physical and functional fitness at this age and determine tentative referential scales of their indicators. The aim of the research is to investigate physical development of teenagers (boys) of different age groups, their physical and functional fitness, as well as to design referential scales of the obtained indicators. The object of the research is physical development as well as physical and functional fitness of 5–10th form teenage boys (11–17 year old). Physical development (height (cm), weight (kg)) and physical fitness of the boys (205 boys of 5–10th forms) were determined in terms of EUROFIT fitness tests (2002). The results of physical development research and their comparative analysis showed that a substantial growth in height and weight was observed in forms 7 and 9. The height of 5–10 form boys changed insignificantly throughout the decade and approximated the average: however, the average of the body mass considerably increased and was higher than provided in EUROFIT (2002) or designed height and mass charts of child growth (Tutkuvienė, 1995). Hence, it is assumed that such an increase in the aforesaid indicator results was determined by the processes incurred in the period of the most intensive development. The research findings in physical fitness demonstrated that the results of 10 × 5 meter Shuttle Run most significantly increased in form 8 and complied with the results achieved by boys, who were two years older. However, later the results were stabilized and changed insignificantly, whereas the dissemination of results was rather low. Explosive leg power (Standing Broad Jump) and the results of hand dynamometry increased in form 7. The results of both explosive and static hand power were similar or insignificantly higher in comparison with the ones of EUROFIT (2002). The results of the endurance of abdominal muscles (Sit-ups test) improved in forms 7 and 9; the results in all surveyed forms appeared to exceed or equal the ones of EUROFIT (2002). The boys’ balance (Flamingo Balance test) and flexibility (Sit- and-Reach test) decreased in form 7 and increased in form 9. However, the research results showed that the data on the balance and flexibility of the surveyed boys approximated or insignificantly exceeded the ones provided in EUROFIT (2002). The greatest increase in the test results of physical development and fitness were observed in forms 7 and 9. However, these results approximated or insignificantly surpassed the results of EUROFIT (2002), with an exception of the growth in body mass and improvement in balance and shuttle run. Presumably, such results were obtained due to the most intensive puberty processes and their conditioned discrepancies, such as acceleration and retardation outcomes, between biological and calendar age. The investigated physical development, physical and functional fitness, their changes in the period of adolescence, as well as the design referential scales enable teachers and sports couches to accurately assess physical and functional conditions, as well as improve the process of (self-) development in pursuance for greater results of physical education.

AbstractMacro and micro nutrient deficiency in female adolescents causes the body to be thin and weight (BB) to drop dramatically impact on nutritional status becomes abnormal. One risk factor is an unbalanced diet. The nutritional status of adolescent girls can be seen from the results of the examination of Body Mass Index (BMI / U) by age. The importance of this nutritional status check is carried out considering that adolescent girls are one of the most potential human resources to assist development in a country because adolescents are the next generation and determiners of the future of this nation, in addition, adolescent girls are prospective mothers who will give birth to children of high quality to use for the development of a nation if it consumes food based on balanced nutrition. The  examination of abnormal nutritional status of 68 teenage girls (39.3%) can trigger educational institutions in collaboration with health institutions and parents to immediately conduct nutritional interventions in the form of nutritional education, or cooking demonstrations of balanced nutrition requirements for teenagers and parents as a program to tackle problems of abnormal nutritional status and the risk of anemia for adolescent girls, so that nutritional problems in adolescents can be quickly resolved.

Background and objective: The assessment of physical fitness has become a necessary issue in epidemiological studies, since a reduction in fitness is directly associated with early mortality. Therefore, the development of simple, accurate, and inexpensive methods is necessary to measure physical fitness. This study aimed to determine the reliability and validity of the criteria and constructs of the International Fitness Scale (IFIS), Portuguese version, in Brazilian pediatric populations. Methods: A total of 190 children aged 3–10 years and 110 adolescents aged 11–17 years were enrolled in an observational study of reliability and validity. For reliability, the participants completed a questionnaire twice (with an interval of 15 days). To test the criterion validity, we analyzed the agreement between the questionnaire and physical tests (20-m shuttle run test, handgrip strength, standing long jump tests, 4 × 10-m shuttle run test, and back-saver sit and reach test), and the construct validity was estimated by agreement between the questionnaire and high blood pressure. The reliability was analyzed by kappa coefficients. The agreement between the testing and retesting of the questionnaire was evaluated by kappa coefficients. We applied a 2 × 2 table to estimate the specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy of the questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the children was 6.7 years (n = 190), and for the adolescents it was 14.6 years (n = 110). The questionnaire reliability showed an almost perfect score (κ ≥ 0.93 in children and κ ≥ 0.88 in adolescents). The questionnaire showed moderate criterion validity (κ ≥ 0.40 in children and adolescents) as well as moderate construct validity (κ ≥ 0.40) in the components of general conditioning, cardiorespiratory capacity, muscular strength, and speed/agility in children and in the components of cardiorespiratory capacity, muscle strength, and speed/agility in adolescents. The questionnaire was a sensitive method for measuring physical fitness. Conclusions: The Portuguese version of the IFIS is a reliable and valid method for measuring physical fitness in pediatric populations.

The aim of the study was to assess the feasibility and reliability of physical fitness field tests used in the “Fuprecol kids” study among Colombian preschool children aged 3–5 years. A total of 90 preschoolers aged 3–5 years participated in the study. Weight, height, waist circumference, cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), musculoskeletal fitness (handgrip strength and standing broad jump), speed–agility (4 × 10 m shuttle run), and flexibility (sit and reach test) components were tested twice (two weeks apart). The feasibility of the tests (preschoolers able to complete the test) ranged from 96% in the CRF test to 100% in the musculoskeletal fitness, speed–agility, and flexibility tests. Overall, the %TEMs were 0.625% for the weight, 0.378% for the height, 1.035% for the body mass index, and 0.547 % for the waist circumference. In addition, all tests were substantial reliable, for CRF (in stages and laps, concordance correlation coefficient = 0.944 and 0.941, respectively) in both sexes and flexibility (concordance correlation coefficient = 0.949) in girls. There were no significant differences in fitness test–retest mean differences in the boys (P > 0.05), except in CRF (laps P = 0.017). In girls, there were differences in CRF (stages (P = 0.017) and laps (P= 0.013)), and flexibility (P = 0.002) variables. The results from this study indicate that the “Fuprecol kids” battery of tests, administered by physical education teachers, was reliable and feasible for measuring components of physical fitness in preschoolers in a school setting in Colombia.

The early detection and continuous monitoring of children’s motor competence levels and physical fitness is very important. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in motor coordination of children enrolled in soccer and multisport activities. The participants of this study included 147 boys and girls (mean age 7.60 ± 0.85 years). The total sample of subjects was composed of two subgroups: children who were enrolled in organized exercise programs—multisports (n = 77), and children who were engaged in soccer training (n = 70). Motor coordination was evaluated with the Kiphard–Schilling body coordination test (KTK). Physical fitness was assessed with a 20 m shuttle run test, 4 × 10 m shuttle run test, standing long jump, and handgrip strength. The ANCOVA showed significant differences (p < 0.05) with large effect size between groups for tests hopping for height (d = 0.93), total motor quotient (d = 1.31), jumping sideways (d = 1.32), and moving sideways (d = 1.59), after adjusting for age and gender. There were no significant differences between groups in the physical fitness tests. It can be concluded that children enrolled in multisport activities have higher levels of motor coordination than children who are enrolled only in soccer. Therefore, multiple sport training programs should be considered and encouraged by parents, educators, and other training professionals.
