Abstract Objective: To identify the influence of family and work relationships on decision-making about retiring. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was carried out with 16 pre-retirees from a public university institution located in the north of Paraná, Brazil. Data were collected between July and November 2012 from three reflection groups that discussed aspects related to retirement. The Content Analysis technique was chosen for data analysis. For the theoretical basis of the results, the Theory of Social Representations was used. Results: Two categories emerged from discourse analysis: The influence of family relationships on decision-making about retiring and the influence of work relationships on decision-making about retiring. Conclusion: Family and work experiences influence decision-making about retiring, and become more important when the pre-retiree does not have post-career life projects, demonstrating the importance of the participation of workers in strategies to prepare for retirement during working life.

Aim:This article presents findings from an interpretive phenomenological study that illuminates unique characteristics of the different social representations of antenatal primigravida and multigravida women who book to birth their babies in a birth center, hospital, or at home.Methods:Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 19 women and analyzed by interpretive phenomenological analysis.Findings:Analysis revealed different social representations independent of each other that illustrate how these social groups, determined by women’s collective voices, are uniquely characterized by group views, beliefs, misinterpretations, and preconceptions that establish what influences women in decision-making about choice of birthplace. Conclusion:Women make decisions about what they want for themselves in this birthing experience. These decisions are made long before this impending experience. Recognizing the different social representations of women in pregnancy reveals deeper insight into the complexities of women’s decision-making about birth choices and highlights why some women might opt for certain choices. Knowing that some women may make decisions based on little or misrepresented information confirms midwives are best placed in their interactions with women to provide positive influences, empowering them to make decisions based upon what they want for themselves. This affirms the woman and her midwife should remain partners in the decision-making process.

Implementation has been successfully implemented in terms of communication and bureaucratic structure, but has not been successfully implemented in terms of resources and dispositions. Constraints faced in realizing improved performance and discipline of civil servants within the North Sumatra Provincial DPRD Secretariat are appraisal officials (superiors) unable to control the views of personal relations in evaluating subordinates' work, TTP payments often cannot be done in a timely manner because funds are not yet available, disciplinary sanctions are still relatively indecisive, and employees often report excessively. It is recommended that supervisors as appraisal officials need to eliminate the influence of the element of closeness in making judgments on the performance of subordinates, and be assertive in giving sanctions to employees who subscribe to disciplinary regulations

Background: The different philosophies of care between midwives and obstetricians influence maternal health services. Midwives deliver a holistic physiological approach, while obstetricians implement a medical approach and a technocratic model. Different perspectives in interpreting professional philosophies may impact the choices of antenatal providers for midwives, themselves. This study aims to determine the self-concept of Indonesian midwives in interpreting professional philosophy regarding the decision-making of the antenatal provider during pregnancies. Materials and Methods: A qualitative descriptive with a phenomenological approach was carried out. It used a purposive sampling method. This study involves 15 midwives who are still active in providing services in private midwifery practices, primary health centers, and hospitals that had experienced pregnancy. The variable was the perspective of midwives in choosing ANC providers considering the self-concept. Data obtained by in-depth interview technique for 60-90 minutes duration and is analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. Results: As the results, the selection of ANC providers has been shaped by the self-concept factor. Most perspectives are influenced by (1) knowledge of the physiological and high-risk of pregnancy concept (2) previous experiences in pregnancy/ childbirth/ after birth (3) role in families when addressing reproductive health decisions. Conversely, education level and work experiences did not affect the option to have antenatal care. Conclusion: Self-concept influences midwives’ perspective of making decisions about ANC providers. This study shows there is a limited understanding of the philosophy of midwifery care which reflects on the decision-making of the midwives in regard to the care received during the pregnancy.

Islamic economics as a doctrine recognized in Islam and a science Islamization project in the 21st century has shown astonishing progress.Throughout the history, there have been many Islamic-based financial institutions. On this stand, various higher education institutions have competed to launch such majors as Islamic economics and Islamic finance. However, there have been many criticizing, especially the geneology of the term "Islamic economics."This study aims to answer the questions: 1) when does the term "Islamic economics" appear according to Timur Kuran, the pioneer of Alternative-Critical School? 2), when does the term "Islamic economics" appear according to the Mainstream School in Islamic economics thought? This research is qualitative-descriptive while the unit of analysis is thematic one. In addition, the analysis technique used is taxonomy and critical discourse analysis. The source of data in this study is primary and secondary ones. The result of the research shows: 1) According to Alternative-Critical School, the genealogy of the term "Islamic economics" emerged in the 1940s at the end of colonial India. The term is first coined by Abu al-A'la Maududi. Other seminal contribution to Islamic economics literature is propagated by Sayyid Qutb (Egypt), and Mohammed Baqir Sadr (Iraq). The term "Islamic economics" is used by fundamentalist Islamic groups. 2) According to the Mainstream School, Maududi never coined the term "Islamic economics". Using the Theory of Social Representations as theoretical and methodological framework, the purpose of this study was to analyze adults’ mental images (social representations) of music and musical selves across the lifespan. Participants ( N = 74) were chosen using purposive sampling in various sociocultural contexts in a large city in the Southeastern United States. As previous studies documented, projective techniques (drawings and linguist associations) can access the most latent dimensions of thinking. Accordingly, drawings and linguistic associations to the textual stimuli “me,” “music,” and “music and me” were used to gain insights into adults’ mental images of music and musical selves. Participants were also asked to provide socio-demographic data that might affect or correlate with their responses. The Correspondences Analysis technique was used to reconstruct representational fields associated with the stimuli. For each stimulus, a five-factor extraction identified hidden dimensions in adult musical thinking and summarized the links between socio-demographic variables and adults’ responses. From a developmental perspective, the comparison of drawings and linguistic associations revealed stable and changing elements in adults’ representations of music and musical selves across the lifespan. From a sociocultural perspective, this study documented the influence of the variable ethnicity on adults’ responses.
