Abstract Research on eating disorders (ED) has shown in patients a prevalence of insecure attachment working models (IWMs). Nevertheless, the issue of a prevalence, in patients, of high anxiety IWMs (HAIWMs) has rarely been addressed. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence in ED patients of high anxiety IWMs and their transmission by parents. The Separation Anxiety Test was administered to 55 patients with an ED, a control sample (n = 80), their mothers and fathers. The two groups differed significantly, with a prevalence of HAIWMs in the patients and their parents compared to the controls; in ED no significant difference appeared in mother-patient versus father-patient matching for HAIWMs. The implication is that patients with an ED might benefit more from individual attachment-based therapy and/or a family therapy than from other types of psychotherapeutic approaches.

The styles of attachment in two groups of adolescents with different characteristics and life experiences are examined. Participants were 81 adolescents residing inside residential treatment centers ( M age = 15.5 yr., SD = 1.1; 48% boys, 52% girls) and 81 adolescents living with their own families ( M age = 15.6 yr., SD = 1.3; 49% boys, 51% girls). The Italian adaptation of the Separation Anxiety Test was used to measure attachment style. Only the data obtained from the “Self” perspective indicated a significant difference between the two groups, showing higher percentages of Secure attachment among adolescents living with their families. When replies were referred to the “Self,” the risk of assessing Insecure attachment in the Residential group was about 2 times higher than in the Family group ( OR = 2.28).

This study aimed to determine whether the early separation anxiety symptom levels of young adults differ according to their personal and familial characteristics. It is retrospective. The sample consisted of 284 university students attending Anadolu University in Turkey, in the 2004–2005 academic years. Data were collected from the Separation Anxiety Symptoms Scale (Ceyhan, 2000) and a questionnaire. Analysis of the data was conducted using independent t-test and ANOVA. Results revealed that the levels of early separation anxiety symptoms of females are significantly higher than those of males. Also, that the level of early separation anxiety symptoms of young adults who were only children was significantly higher than those of first, middle, and last children. There was no significant difference in terms of the variables such as mothers' and fathers' attitudes perceived retrospectively, attendance at nursery school, or mothers' working conditions during childhood. Results are discussed in the light of literature regarding the limitations of the study.

Scopo del presente studio è stato analizzare il fenomeno del bullismo secondo la prospettiva dell'attaccamento, ponendo a confronto i bulli, i bulli-vittima, le vittime e i non-coinvolti nei modelli mentali e nei comportamenti socio-emozionali (in particolare aggressività, evitamento dell'interazione, manifestazioni di ansia e depressione). Hanno partecipato allo studio 365 bambini, 208 maschi (57%) e 157 femmine (43%), di 5 scuole di Roma, di età compresa tra 8 e 11 anni (M = 9.28, DS = 0.81). Gli strumenti impiegati sono stati: Nomina dei Pari (Menesini, 2003), per individuare i ruoli di bullo, vittima, bullo-vittima e non coinvolto, Separation Anxiety Test (Attili, 2001) per la misura dei modelli mentali dell'attaccamento e Social Emo-tional Dimension Scale (Ianes, & Savelli, 1994) per la valutazione dei comportamenti socio-emozionali. Dai risultati emerge che, nel confronto con i non-coinvolti, i bulli mostrano più attaccamenti ambivalenti ed evitanti, li dove le vittime e i bulli-vittima mostrano per lo più modelli mentali di tipo ambivalente. Inoltre i bulli, i bulli-vittima e le vittime presentano più alti livelli di aggressività, di evitamento delle interazioni con i pari e di comportamenti inappropriati.

Abstract Background Personality has been suggested to be an important factor in understanding onset, maintenance, and recovery from eating disorders (ED). The objective of the current study was to evaluate personality style in different ED diagnostic groups as classified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth edition (DSM-5). Methods The overcontrolled, undercontrolled, and resilient personality styles were compared in four groups of patients with EDs: anorexia nervosa restricting (ANr) (n = 34), anorexia nervosa binge eating/purging (ANbp) (n = 31), atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN) (n = 29), and bulimia nervosa (BN) (n = 76). These groups were compared with a group of patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) (n = 108), and a non-clinical group (NC) (n = 444). Patient data were collected at two outpatient clinics in Uppsala, Sweden. NC control data were collected through convenience sampling. Participants filled out questionnaires assessing personality style. Results The main findings were more pronounced overcontrol reported by the ANr and AAN groups compared with the BN, BPD, and NC groups, and no significant difference in resilience between the ED and the NC groups. Considerable variability of over- and undercontrol was also found within each group. Conclusions The results replicate previous findings when EDs are classified according to current diagnostic criteria (DSM-5). Taking personality styles into account may improve our understanding of certain characteristics in EDs, such as social deficits and rigidity that are attributed to poor treatment outcome.

Abstract Background Although approximately 23% of anorexia nervosa (AN) patients have concomitant autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it is clinically difficult to determine ASD coexistence in patients with eating disorders. Restrictive AN is more common in younger patients and self-induced vomiting usually appears during adolescence/young adulthood, in order to prevent gaining weight caused by overeating. However, some patients are tolerant of weight gain even if they start overeating. It is important to understand the essential difference between those who vomit and those who do not vomit. In this study, we hypothesised that the absence of self-induced vomiting may be associated with the presence of ASD and aimed to assess the presence of ASD traits in each eating disorder (EDs). Clarifying this association helps to consider the coexistence of ASD in the clinical setting and can lead to the next detailed ASD evaluation, and as a result, helps to determine the appropriate treatment and support individually. Methods We retrospectively evaluated 43 females aged 15–45 years who attended Chiba University Hospital between 2012 and 2016 using the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ) to quantify the severity of the EDs and to identify whether ASD traits were present. Results There was no difference in the AQ score between bingeing-purging type AN and restricting type AN. However, there was significant difference in the AQ score between bulimia nervosa and binge EDs (BED). Of the 4 ED subtypes, BED had the highest ASD traits. The non-vomiting group with illness duration < 4 years had a significantly higher AQ communication score than the vomiting group with illness duration ≥4 years. Conclusions There was a difference in the AQ score by the presence or absence of self-induced vomiting. The results of this study suggest an association between high scores on AQ and non-vomiting. Thus, evaluation of patients for the absence of self-induced vomiting while assessing them for EDs may help us to understand the association with ASD traits.

Ogi was produced from composite flour of fermented Acha, roasted Soybean and Carrot.  The raw materials were blended in varying proportions. Proximate composition, functional properties and sensory characteristics of the formulated Ogi samples were evaluated. The results of the proximate composition showed a significant increase in moisture (5.36% to 9.94%), protein (3.94% to 16.98%), fat (1.89% to 10.23%), crude fiber (1.80% to 3.12%) and ash (0.35% to 0.99%); while a decrease was observed in carbohydrate (86.66% to 58.74%) with increase in supplementation with roasted Soybean flour and constant addition of carrot flour along with the milk flavor. The functional properties showed significant increase in foam capacity (5.99% to 7.97%), Swelling index (2.46 v/v to 3.08 v/v) and Least gelation capacity (8.10% to 14.0%); while a decrease was observed in bulk density (0.84 g/mL to 0.72 g/mL), water absorption capacity (1.40% to 1.10%) and foaming stability (3.39% to 2.79%). Sensory characteristics result revealed that there was no significant difference (p<0.05) in aroma and overall acceptability with increasing incorporation of roasted Soybean flour and constant addition of Carrot flour with milk flavor. Aside the control sample (containing 100% fermented Acha flour) there was preference for Sample C (70% fermented Acha flour: 15% roasted Soybean flour: 10% Carrot flour: 5% Milk flavor) and Sample D (60% fermented Acha flour: 25% roasted Soybean flour: 10% `Carrot flour: 5% Milk flavor) in terms of color (6.65 and 6.25), taste (6.95 and 6.35), aroma (6.45 and 6.30), mouth feel (6.10 and 6.35) and overall acceptability (6.50 and 6.50) respectively, among the blend formulations. Supplementation of fermented Acha with roasted Soybean and Carrot flour considerably increased the protein and fat contents of the blend; hence Soybean should be used for supplementation of cereal based product in order to improve their nutritional composition.

The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of modifying model BisGMA/TEGDMA dental composite by substituting 10 wt. % of conventional glass fillers with bioactive fillers based on calcinated nanosized hydroxyapatite (HAp) and Mg doped hydroxyapatite (Mg-HAp). HAp and Mg-HAp powders were synthesized hydrothermally. Mechanical properties: hardness by Vickers (HV) and flexural strength (Fs) were tested initially and after being stored for 28 days in simulated body fluid (SBF). The experimental composites with HAp and Mg-HAp particles showed no statistically significant difference in HV compared to the control (p>0.05) either initially or after storage. Although mean Fs values of modified composites tested initially were lower (62 MPa) than those of the control (72 MPa), after 28 days of storage in SBF Fs values were greater for modified composites (42 MPa control sample, 48 MPa HAp and Mg-HAp samples). In vitro bioactivity of BisGMA/TEGDMA composites with HAp and Mg-HAp particles after 28 days in SBF was not detected. Keywords: hydroxyapatite; magnesium; dental composite; mechanical properties;

The study was intended to examine the effect of Anxiety on diabetic patients. Aim: The aim was to estimate the prevalence of anxiety in patients with diabetes and to determine the association of anxiety with area and gender. Sample: The sample consists of 160 diabetic patients from different hospital in Rajkot district area. The sample was selected from randomly. Design: 2*2 research design was used the present study. Tools: Anxiety was measured through a questionnaire ‘Sinha’s Comprehensive Anxiety Test (SCAT) was used. Test developed by A.K.P Sinha and L.N.K Sinha in (1995).The data was analyzed by the t test. Results: There will be no significant difference between Gender and Types of Area in relation to their Anxiety. Conclusions: Our study demonstrates a higher prevalence of anxiety in diabetic patients. No factor was significantly associated with anxiety.
