The changes at the world's labour market of the past decades demand a reconsideration of the education content, technologies and methods of teaching, ways of upbringing, and prove the importance of a deliberate development of future specialists' soft skills as an integrative personality characteristic which is necessary for successful work activities in modern society. This article aims at specifying the content of soft skills as a personality characteristic and searching the pedagogical ways of their development in acquiring professional education. The study was carried out using theoretical (analysis of pedagogical, psychological and sociological literature, synthesis of knowledge on the problem) and experimental (interviewing, conversation, polling, questionnaire, observation of educational process, analysis of learning materials and teaching resources, their experimental application, monitoring of students' soft skills development) research methods. The analysis of literature on the question allowed concluding that the structure of soft skills includes communicative-interactive, creative, reflexive, and cognitive components, and emotional intelligence. Thus, soft skills are an integrative personality characteristic representing a set of communicative, creative, and reflexive skills in combination with emotional intelligence, cognitive skills, and such personal characteristics as flexibility, friendliness, learnability, punctuality, timemanagement, leadership. Academic language disciplines, especially teaching business interaction in foreign language, are particular promising for the development of soft skills due to the diversity of applied activities and interactive methods based on communicative-interactive tasks. These tasks can be classified regarding their difficulty (simple and complex), content (social and professional), cultural barriers (monocultural and cross-cultural), and number of active participants (monologue, dialogue, group); they can be combined and deliberately made up by a teacher according to educational and professional needs. Experimental teaching business interaction with the help of communicative-interactive tasks demonstrated a systemic development of students' interactive and reflexive skills, critical and creative thinking through actualization of their own position in problem situations. The research shows that interactive learning on the basis of communicative-interactive tasks provides opportunities necessary for developing components of soft skills.

The advanced pedagogical experience testifies to the presence of a number of methods in the practice of teaching language disciplines used by teachers during profile training at school or other educational institutions. With the development of modern information technologies, the role of traditional methods of studying language disciplines in the educational process is changing to the advantage of more innovative (interactive) methods of studying language disciplines. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to investigate the peculiarities of the application of innovative methods in language disciplines during profile training implementation. To achieve the purpose specified, an academic paper uses a number of general scientific (method of theoretical analysis, method of observation, method of description and method of synthesis) and empirical (experimental method, modeling method and calculation method) research methods. The practical reflection of the state and dynamics of mastering language disciplines during profile training is demonstrated through: the efficiency level of the applied innovative methods of studying language disciplines; the dynamics of the average number of students, involved in studying foreign language per student at the level of higher secondary education; rating of the countries of European Union and Ukraine on English proficiency according to the Global rating of countries and regions; provisions of New Ukrainian School Concept. It has been established that in the countries of European Union the practice of studying language disciplines is based on the translation method, the method of meaningful and language integrated learning, the methods of using digital technologies and the method of using creative objects. The study has revealed that such countries of European Union, as Luxembourg, Romania and Finland have significantly high levels of foreign language proficiency; however, such levels of language command are significantly low in Greece, Denmark, Spain, Germany and Portugal. It has been established that Ukraine is classified as a country with a low level of English language command (proficiency) in the Global Ranking of Countries and Regions (according to data of 2019, 2017 and 2016) and a moderate level of English language proficiency (according to data of 2018 and 2015). The following types of innovative methods, currently used by teachers in language disciplines during profile training, have been summarized, namely: the use of information and computer technology in the process of language learning; the use of developmental methods in the form of dialogue, discussion, seminar or brainstorming; construction of the educational process in the form of a game, project, team game; introduction of creative and interactive tasks into the educational process.

Critical Thinking has become an educational and social ideal. English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching has not been apart from the discussion on the importance of implementing Critical Thinking into the educational process. However, research on Critical Thinking has broadly been carried out in other fields of knowledge rather than in EFL. Therefore, this study aimed to comprehend the conceptions university English teachers had about Critical Thinking in order to get a wider understanding on the way it has been conceived in EFL in relation to its concept, traits, promotion and assessment. Content Analysis, as a qualitative process of analysis and source of information, interpretations and conclusions, was the method adopted. The software Atlas.ti was the tool implemented to analyze the information. The results revealed that there is some agreement on the conception of Critical Thinking as a set of cognitive skills for problem-solving and reflective learning. Nevertheless, EFL teachers brought about their deficiency in understanding on what Critical Thinking entails. Thus, they emphasized the need of training on topics such as teaching, learning, didactics, methodology, strategies and resources to foster Critical Thinking in EFL. Based on teachers’ participation in this study and the literature consulted, it was concluded that Critical Thinking in EFL is compound of communicative competence, creativity, argumentation, problem-solving, decision-making, autonomous learning, metacognition and emotions.
