The Bishop of Santander, Rafael Tomás Menéndez de Luarca, was an enthusiastic representative of the High Catholic Church in Spain between 1784 and 1819. As a declared enemy of France since the Revolution, the Napoleonic troops’ advance into Northern Spain forced him to flee into Asturias in November 1808. In May 1809 Menéndez de Luarca managed to escape to Britain, a country he considered ‘heretic’. His stay there marked a watershed in the moralising campaign he had started at the beginning of his bishopric. Back in Spain, the progressive loosening of traditional Catholic morals he found in Cádiz had, in his opinion, a negative impact on the Spanish struggle against Napoleon. Menéndez de Luarca’s concern for what he had viewe as women’s outrageous fashion while in England increased in the Andalusian city. This article aims to analyse the impact of the bishop’s English experience on the peculiar campaign he began in Cádiz in 1809 to ‘improve’ women’s conduct. His personal crusade ended up with the publication of a work with an eloquent title, Las descamisadas o envenustadas modernas españolas (1812). A critical revision of this text includes a brief socio-linguistic analysis of the term ‘descamisadas’. This study is completed with an evaluation of the civil authorities’ acceptance of the measures suggested by Menéndez de Luarca, together with their social impact.

The peculiarities of gemstone market functioning under the impact of globalization are examined. Modern condition of financial stabilization in world is defined and main features of gemstones are outlined. Negative impact of illegal market on socio-economic development of countries, namely on revenues to the country’s budget from the business, is revealed. The importance of the problem of transferring most of gemstones processing operations beyond the countries of production is emphasized. Poor public control over the circulation of precious stones is proven. The challenges are substantiated to be aggravating under the impact of globalization. The diamonds market, which has peculiar high demand, is analyzed: diamonds and derivatives account for 85% of global turnover. Application of managerial strategies for gemstones market to efficiently use resources is defined to be complicated by the fact that managerial strategies impact the high cost of product items and its variability; unique features; intangible qualities; complicated processing. More environmentally friendly production and social responsibility are confirmed to have impact on forming of demand on gemstones. Investment attractiveness of gemstones, except for diamonds, is proven to be low. Condition of production and consumption of diamonds is analyzed. Development condition of the market segment – non-diamonds gemstones – is shown. The activity of small enterprises and households engaged in gemstones production is confirmed to be characterized by chaotic and complicated nature of broker networks, leading to aggravated global challenges. The paper defines that expansion of spectrum and emergence of new opportunities for illegal activity, reduced income and loss of other types of economic benefits, growing negative ecological and social impact, growing exploitation of workers at illegal enterprises remain to be the global challenges of gemstones market functioning. The author suggests increasing of social and ecological responsibility of business, strengthening of the state regulating functions and promotion of gemstones market legalization in order to reduce the challenges.

As Poverty has become a global challenge for all the nations around the world, from the past many years, different strategies have been used to reduce it. However, since 1980s Microfinance has become a powerful tool to alleviate poverty and it's not adopted even in the developing countries but also developed nations have been practicing it. Many of the past studies used the economic indicators to measure the impact of microfinance on poverty reduction, and few have concentrated on the social indicators. The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of microfinance as a poverty reduction in terms of social indicators in the rural areas of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The objective of this research is to check whether the established NGOs in the concern areas have been successful in bringing social change in the life of the beneficiaries. For the purpose of analysis, the structural equation model is applied to a sample of 440 collected through a structured questionnaire. Results show that microfinance had a negative impact on the health and education of the beneficiaries. This research indicates that more funds and priority should be given to the education and health sector because they have equal importance as compared to the other economic indicators.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of the first six months of orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of adolescents, comparing boys and girls, using a specific condition questionnaire. Design: Cross-sectional. Setting: School of Dentistry of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil Participants: Adolescents aged 10–17 years. Methods: Forty-six adolescents participated in this study. Adolescents’ OHRQoL was evaluated using the Brazilian version of the questionnaire Impact of Fixed Appliances Measure. This questionnaire comprises 43 questions distributed across nine domains: aesthetics; functional limitation; dietary impact; oral hygiene impact; maintenance impact; physical impact; social impact; time constraints; and travel/cost/inconvenience implications. The answer options follow the Likert scale, in the range of 1–5. A higher score indicates a more negative impact on the OHRQoL. Adolescents’ malocclusion was assessed using the Dental Aesthetic Index. Information on family income, adolescents’ age and tooth extraction was also collected. A directed acyclic graph was used to identify potential confounders. Statistical analysis involved the chi-square test, the Student’s t test and the analysis of covariance. The minimal clinically important difference was also calculated. Results: Of the 46 participants, 25 were girls and 21 were boys. The female adolescents presented a more negative impact from the orthodontic treatment on the quality of life when compared to the male adolescents ( P < 0.001), regardless of the influence of the confounding variables. The most negative repercussions were identified in the domains of oral hygiene ( P = 0.002), physical impact ( P < 0.001) and social impact ( P < 0.001). Conclusion: The impact of the first six months of orthodontic treatment on OHRQoL is more negative in female individuals than in male individuals. The results of this study may be useful for the oral healthcare provider during the counselling of adolescents undergoing fixed appliance therapy.

AbstractThe impact of products is becoming a topic of concern in society. Product impact may fall under the categories of economic, environmental, or social impact and is defined by the effect of a product on day-to-day life. Design teams lack sufficient tools to predict the impact of products they are designing. In this paper we present a framework for the prediction of product impact during product design. This framework integrates models of the product, scenario, society, and impact into an agent-based model to predict product impact. Although this paper focuses on social impact, the framework can also be applied to economic or environmental impacts. An illustration of using the framework is also presented. Agent-based modeling has been used previously for adoption models, but it has not been extended to predict product impact. Having tools for impact prediction allows for optimizing the product design parameters to increase potential positive impact and reduce potential negative impact.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to surprising and unexpected experiences for Saudi university students. Precautionary and preventive measures taken to contain this pandemic impacted the social and educational aspects of these students’ lives. All Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) students were invited to participate in an online survey on 30 impacts, both positive and negative, of the COVID-19 pandemic on their lives. Social impact theory (SIT) was applied to illustrate these impacts. The survey yielded 1,360 responses. The results showed high to moderate levels of agreement regarding students’ perceptions of the positive and negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their lives, with social aspects impacted more than educational ones; and no statistically significant gender differences. Weak correlations were found between the social aspects and the educational aspects of students’ lives in relation to the impact of the pandemic, although all aspects were correlated positively. The SIT framework provided insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted students’ lives.

The article aims to deepen the study of the economic and social impact of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide and in Slovakia. The sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic changed the usual stereotypes of government agencies, businesses, hospitals, schools and all other structures where people existed. The world has changed. Restraint measures have affected people's lives and the professional activities of both the public and private sectors of individual states. From a social point of view, the fate of many people has changed, many professions are unable to do their jobs due to restrictive measures, many people face a lack of their income, many people have suffered from the disease, many have succumbed. Mutations in the coronavirus mapped against the release of containment measures and thus hindered office work, school education, and the operation of all types of shops and services. A study of the impact of the Kovid pandemic on such industries as mining, food industry, textile, woodworking, chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgy, computer manufacturing, machine building, vehicle manufacturing, energy supply, steam, gas and cold air. Almost all industries have reduced production. This was reflected in world trade. The slowdown in economic activity has created new challenges that countries have to deal with. The negative impact of the Pandemic was felt by the tourism industry, in particular in Slovakia. The coronacrisis caused the slow-down of the prices on the real estate market due to economic instability caused by the decrease of the disposable income of the households. The decline in economy caused by the pandemic forced states to prepare some safety measurements for employers and employees and self-employed persons as well. States have created various arrangements to help their economies go through. The Ministry of Employment of Slovak republic prepared the project called “The First Aid for Employees, Enterpreneurs and Self-Employed Persons” with the aim to prevent the increase of the unemployment rate in the tough times of coronacrisis. The Ministry of culture of Slovak republic has published the grant to help those self-employed persons working in the sector of the culture or the creative industry whose netto income was not higher than 540 EUR/month. KEY WORDS: CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC, DETERRENCE MEASURES, ECONOMY, SOCIAL SPHERE, TOURISM, TRANSPORT, POPULATION, WORLD TRADE.

Abstract: The scope of this article, in its analysis and objective, will be to bring a brief reflection on "The effectiveness of ECA and its application in the emotional and psychological health of children and adolescents, seeking to assess its limits, scope and possibilities, as well as the main factors that make successful experiences of these ECA measures rare in achieving its proposed objectives. We will inquire about the Bernardo boy law, which, due to negligence, the situation, which was not successful, ended in an outcome with a negative impact, resulting in a great social impact. We cannot fail to highlight and review the literary determinants related to ECA regarding the emotional and psychological health of the researched subject. The recognition of children and adolescents as subjects of rights protected by law is well known. Thus, the importance of the ECA derives precisely from this: to reaffirm the protection of children and adolescents who live in periods of intense psychological, physical, moral and social development. Therefore, when we enter the subject in question, we need to understand the phases of human development. Finally, in its synthesis, it will recover the impact of these measures promoted by ECA in the lives of children and adolescents in situations of neglect and emotional and psychological vulnerability, when successful in their assessments and applicability. Keywords: ECA; Emotional Health; Kids; Teenagers.

AbstractThis article primarily aims to estimate the impact of the Armenian revolution and test the hypothesis, that is, the benefits of revolution and establishment of democracy can be seen even in the first year after the political change. To calculate the short-term net surplus of the revolution, we estimated the difference between the projection of Armenian economic activity for the four quarters after the revolution, using only pre-revolutionary (assuming there was no revolution) and real data for the same period after the revolution. Using deep neural network models, such as recurrent neural networks and convolutional neural networks (CNN), we compared prediction accuracy with structural econometrics, such as autoregressive integrated moving average and error correction model, using pre-revolutionary data (2000Q1–2018Q1) for Armenia and combinations of models using an ensembling mechanism. As a result, CNN overperformed the rest of the models. The CNN simulation on post-revolutionary data indicates that during the period 2018-Q2–2019-Q1, Armenia gained approximately 850 million EUR in terms of GDP, thanks to the revolution and the new government. Moreover, out of seven models, the five best models in terms of accuracy indicated that the revolution had no negative impact on the Armenian economy, as the actual values were within or above the 95% confidence interval of the prediction.
