Background: One of the main sources of ROS in stress conditions is the mitochondria. Excessive generation of ROS leads to oxidation of thiol groups of proteins, peroxidation of membrane lipids and swelling of the mitochondria. In this regard, there is a need to search for preparationsadaptogens that increase the body's resistance to stress factors. Perhaps, antioxidants can serve as such adaptogens. This work aims at studying the effect of antioxidant; the potassium anphen in a wide range of concentrations on the functional state of 6 day etiolated pea seedlings mitochondria (Pisum sativum L). Methods: The functional state of mitochondria was studied per rates of mitochondria respiration, by the level of lipid peroxidation and study of fatty acid composition of mitochondrial membranes by chromatography technique. Results: Potassium anphen in concentrations of 10-5 - 10-8 M and 10-13-10-16 prevented the activation of LPO in the mitochondrial membranes of pea seedlings, increased the oxidation rates of NAD-dependent substrates and succinate in the respiratory chain of mitochondria that probably pointed to the anti-stress properties of the drug. Indeed, the treatment of pea seeds with the preparation in concentrations of 10-13 M prevented the inhibition of growth of seedlings in conditions of water deficiency. Conclusion: It is assumed that the dose dependence of the biological effects of potassium anphen and the manifestation of these effects in ultra-low concentrations are due to its ability in water solutions to form a hydrate containing molecular ensembles (structures).

(1) Psychology must play an important role in the prevention and management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the present study was to examine associations between the perceptions of information overload and wellbeing in China during the initial phase of COVID-19. (2) Methods: The present research involved a cross-sectional online survey, which controlled for established predictors of wellbeing and the perception of general (not COVID-19-specific) information overload. The setting of the research was China, February 2020. A total of 1349 participants completed an online survey, and the results from 1240 members of the general public who stated that they were uninfected are reported here (55.6% female; 49.4% single; age distribution: 17–25 years: 26%; 26–30 years: 24.3%; 31–40 years: 23.9%; 41–50 years: 16.2%; 51 years+: 9.6%; the most frequent occupations were: 21.5% students; 19.5% teachers; 25.9% office workers; 10.8% managers, plus a few in a wide range of jobs). The outcomes were positive wellbeing (positive affect and life satisfaction) and negative wellbeing (stress, negative affect, anxiety and depression). (3) Results: Regressions were carried out, controlling for established predictors of wellbeing (psychological capital, general information overload, positive and negative coping). Spending time getting information about COVID-19 was associated with more positive wellbeing. In contrast, perceptions of COVID-19 information overload and feeling panic due to COVID-19 were associated with more negative wellbeing. (4) Conclusions: These results have implications for the communication of information about COVID-19 to the general public and form the basis for further research on the topic.

Abstract. In recent years, software packages for the management of biological data have rapidly been developing. However, currently, there is no general information system available for managing molecular data derived from both Sanger sequencing and microsatellite genotyping projects. A prerequisite to implementing such a system is to design a general data model which can be deployed to a wide range of labs without modification or customization. Thus, this paper aims to (1) suggest a uniform solution to efficiently store data items required in different labs, (2) describe procedures for representing data streams and data items (3) and construct a formalized data framework. As a result, the data framework has been used to develop an integrated information system for small labs conducting biodiversity studies.

AbstractThe aim of the study is to assess the health literacy of women who are using health services within the Gynecology Obstetric Clinic “Narodni Front” in Belgrade. Testing of health literacy was conducted as a cross-sectional study in the period October-November 2012. As instruments of research the following questionnaires are used: Short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults and General information questionnaire of respondents who referred to the demographic, social and economic characteristics of respondents, self-assessment of health, use of health services, health knowledge and behavior in the area of reproductive health. Inadequate health literacy level is registered in every ten respondents. The education level of the respondents proved to be a significant predictor of health literacy. Demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the patients (age, occupation, marital status) as well as self-evaluation of the health status were not significantly related to the health literacy. Health literacy respondents did not significantly dependent on risk behaviors related to reproductive health. The level of health literacy is consistent with the knowledge of subjects in the field of protection of reproductive health. Health literacy as the ability to function within the health care system is equally certain by individual characteristics and skills, characteristics of the health and education systems as well as a wide range of social and cultural factors. Health literacy is more systematic than individual problem, so it requires a broader social action.

Extensive reading (ER) has been advocated for having numerous benefits and values to foreign language classes. The Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University has prescribed a wide range of textbooks, reference materials, and web-based materials, especially for Masters’ students. Besides, these learners are required to read out-of-the-course materials, too. These contexts call for extensive reading on the part of the learners. Based on this background, the present study aimed to explore the learners’ choice for reading materials, their purposes of reading, and the expected teacher roles. The study followed the survey research design. The respondents were 100 M.Ed. 1st and 2nd year English students of the academic year 2014-15 A.D. of Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara. In 2011, ISTP SB RAS began to deploy a routinely operating network of receivers of global navigation satellite system signals. To date, eight permanent and one temporal sites in the Siberian region are operating on a regular basis. These nine sites are equipped with 12 receivers. We use nine multi-frequency multi-system receivers of Javad manufacturer, and three specialized receivers NovAtel GPStation-6 designed to measure ionospheric phase and amplitude scintillations. The deployed network allows a wide range of ionospheric studies as well as studies of the navigation system positioning quality under various heliogeophysical conditions. This article presents general information about the network, its technical characteristics, and current state, as well as the main research problems that can be solved using data from the network.


Food hypersensitivity in young children is a topical issue, since it encompasses a wide range of clinical symptoms and requires a personified approach in diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures. A progressive increase in different forms of food hypersensitivity is associated with many factors, particularly malnutrition and harmful ecological conditions. Epigenetic and genetic factors, which potentially can be related to food hypersensitivity and allergy, are being thoroughly studied. In this complex situation, the detection of risk factors for disease development is important for offering patients proper recommendations on diet, living conditions and lifestyle. Aim of the research: to perform analysis of factors, which cause appearance of food hypersensitivity in young children in Lviv oblast. Materials and methods. A study of the number of children with food intolerance was conducted using a specially compiled questionnaire. Thus, 4500 questionnaires were distributed in pre-school and medical establishments to question parents. The questionnaire had 34 questions that were grouped into four parts: general information and detailed information in parts A, B, and C. The general information part of the questionnaire included questions about the region where the child lived, passport data of the child (age, gender) and presence of serious disease (either past or present). Part A had questions about serious diseases that a child had suffered; part B asked about the child’s genealogical and medical history and presence of harmful habits in the family; part C had questions about the environment and living conditions of the child, as well as nutrition and its relation to the development of clinical symptoms of disease. Results. Analysis of 3214 questionnaires was conducted, which enabled to obtain information from parents on anamnesis and living conditions of young children. Values of 56 factors were analyzed, calculating correlation coefficients with a formation of food hypersensitivity for each of them. Statistical analysis allowed distinguishing 15 signs among these factors, which significantly correlated with the formation of food hypersensitivity in young children. Conclusions. The investigation enabled not only to detect factors that affect formation of food hypersensitivity in young children, but also to suggest a mathematical model of individual calculation of risk factors for this pathology. Data of conducted mathematical analysis can be used for elaboration of a complex of prophylaxis measures on development of food hypersensitivity in young children in Lviv oblast.

The general tendency towards the miniaturization of technological systems and materials has prompted intensive development of nanotechnology. It is a quickly developing area of science devoted to the production and application of nanomaterial structures defined as those whose one size does not exceed 100 nm. Nanostructures have been found to show new physical, chemical and biological properties often better than the corresponding materials made of particles of micrometric or macrometric sizes, so they have become of great interest in many areas of industry as well as other areas [22], such as medicine and cosmetology. According to literature and Scopus database, Fig. 1, the most popular nanostructures used in medicine and cosmetology, besides silver and gold nanoparticles, are those of other transition metals such as platinum, palladium or ruthenium. This paper is concerned with the wide range of present and potential applications of nanomaterials in medicine and cosmetology.

Using the “Bioscope” hardware complex, it was shown that an oxygen deficiency leads to certain changes in the statistical parameters of the integrative state of animals both during and after hypoxia exposure. However, after 10 days of using horseradish roots (Armoracia rusticana) as an antihypoxic food supplement, in contrast to the control, significant changes in the recorded signal are observed both during and after hypoxic exposure. These changes indicate the facilitating effect of horseradish roots in conditions of oxygen deficiency.
