ABSTRACT. Turmeric extract (Curcuma longa L.) has the potential to be a natural anthelmintic and alternative to commercial deworming drugs for naturally-infected local sheep. A completely randomized design was used to compare the effect of 5 different oral treatments of turmeric extract tablets at 0 (TET-0), 200 mg (TET-200), 400 mg (TET-400), 800 mg (TET-800), and commercial Oxfendazole 225mg (Oxfen-225) on reducing endoparasites (fecal egg counts, FEC) of naturally-infected local yearling ewes at day-0 (before treatments), day-7, day-14, and day-21 (after treatments) using 4 replicates (n = 4). At day-0, all experimental ewes were naturally infected by FEC Strongyles nematode ranging from 85.0 ± 32.8 to 638 ± 230 eggs/g. Meanwhile, FEC Fasciola spp. and Paramphistomum spp. (Trematode), Monieza spp. (Cestode), dan Eimeria spp. (coccidia) were found a little in a small number of ewes. Therefore, further analysis focused on FEC Strongyles. On day-7, only Oxfen-225 and TET-800 treatments reduced (P0.05) FEC Strongyles by 100% and 64%, respectively. There was no difference (P0.05) in the increased or reduced percentages of FEC Strongyles infections among group treatments during day-14 and day-21 although only Oxfen-225 treatment showed a constant decrease. It seems that orally administering turmeric extract tablet at 800 mg have the potential to reduce FEC Strongyles in sheep by 64% although its anthelmintic potential is still weaker than commercial oxfendazole 225 mg.  (Pengaruh Ekstrak Kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) sebagai Antelmintik terhadap Penurunan Endoparasit pada Domba yang Terinfeksi secara Alami) ABSTRAK. Ekstrak kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) mempunyai potensi sebagai antelmintik alami pengganti obat cacing komersial pada domba lokal yang terinfeksi cacing. Rancangan acak lengkap digunakan untuk membandingkan pengaruh 5 perbedaan perlakuan ekstrak kunyit dalam bentuk tablet dengan dosis: 0 (TET-0), 200 mg (TET-200), 400 mg (TET-400), 800 mg (TET-800), dan Oxfendazole komersil 225mg (Oxfen-225) terhadap penurunan jumlah telur cacing pada feses (Fecal egg counts, FEC) domba betina muda yang terinfeksi cacing secara alami pada hari ke-0 (sebelum perlakuan), hari ke-7, hari ke-14, dan hari ke-21 setelah perlakuan menggunakan 4 ulangan (n = 4). Pada hari ke-0, semua domba eksperimen terinfeksi secara alami oleh nematoda Strongyles sebanyak 85.0 ± 32.8 sampai 638 ± 230 telur/gram feses. Sedangkan FEC Fasciola spp. dan Paramphistomum spp. (Trematoda), Monieza spp. (Cestoda), dan Eimeria spp. (Koksidia) hanya ada di beberapa domba saja dalam jumlah yang sedikit. Sehingga Analisa selanjutnya difokuskan kepada FEC Strongyles. Pada hari ke-7, hanya perlakuan Oxfen-225 dan Cur-800 yang dapat mengurangi (P0.05) persentase FEC Strongyles sebanyak 100% dan 64%, secara berurutan. Tidak ada perbedaan (P0.05) pada peningkatan atau penurunan persentase FEC Strongyles pada semua perlakuan selama hari ke-14 dan hari ke-21 walaupun perlakuan Oxfen-225 memperlihatkan pengurangan persentase FEC Strongyles secara konstan. Ekstrak kunyit dalam bentuk tablet pada dosis 800 mg mempunyai potensi menurunkan infeksi FEC Strongyles sekitar 64% pada minggu pertama, tetapi kemampuan antiparasitiknya masih di bawah oxfendazole 225 mg.

Mosquito Culex sp. L. is a vector of elephantiasis disease, prevention effort of elephantiasis vector is usually done by using chemical and natural insecticide. In the leaves of turmeric can be used as a natural insecticide in the prevention of elephantiasis vector disease. The objectives of this research are (1) to know the effect of turmeric extract ((Curcuma longa Linn.) As electrical insecticide to mortality of Culex sp. L. (2) To know the concentration of turmeric extract (Curcuma longa Linn.) Which is effective to be used as an electric insecticide against mortality of Culex sp. L. expressed by the toxicity test of LC50 and LT50. The method used in this research is an experimental method with Completely Randomized Design (RAL) which consists of 5 treatments and 4 replications. Based on research result of turmeric extract (Curcuma longa Linn.) Have a very significant effect on mortality of Culex sp. L. with sig value 0,000 <sig value. 0.05. The probit analysis of LC50 of turmeric leaves extract on mortality of Culex sp. L. is 44, 840 ml, meaning that at that concentration has occurred 50% mortality of total mosquito. The objective of this research was to evaluate the supplementation of turmeric in the diet on antioxidant status and growth performance of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) in zero water exchange condition. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replications. Each treatment consisted of feed supplementation turmeric at dosage of 0; 2.5; 5 or 7.5 g kg-1 diet. One hundred catfish juvenile (5.95±0.05 g) were stocked in intermediate bulk container (IBC) tank (1×1×1 m3) and rearing in zero water exchange condition for 60 days. Catfish were fed at satiation twice a day, in the morning and evening. The results showed that an increase in antioxidant content in catfish fed with the addition of turmeric, which simultaneously also reduced the percentage of liver damage. The parameters of liver damage can be seen from several parameters i.e. pale liver, droplet fat and fat content in the addition of turmeric treatment is lower than without the addition of turmeric. However, catfish fed with the addition of turmeric did not show significant results in terms of growth performances.

AbstrakKerupuk cumi saat ini cukup banyak diminati masyarakat di semua kalangan karena kandungan gizi cumi yang tinggi terutama kandungan proteinnya yaitu 17,9 g/100 g cumi segar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui mutu kerupuk cumi (Loligo sp.) yang terbaik dengan penambahankunyit(Curcuma domestica) yang berbeda. Analisis yang dilakukan meliputi: analisa proksimat (kadar : air, abu, lemak, protein, dan karbohidrat), dan uji Total Plate Count (TPC Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dengan empat perlakuanyaitu: tanpa pemberian ekstrak kunyit (O) , pemberian dosis 12,5% (A), 15% (B) dan 17,5% (C) masing-masing enam ulangan. Hasil analisa uji proksimat, penggunaan ekstrak kunyit pada pembuatan kerupuk cumi berpengaruh nyata terhadap mutu kerupuk cumi dengan pemakaian ekstrak kunyit terbaik yaitu: dosis kunyit 12,5% (kadar air : 9,622%), dosis kunyit 17,5% ( kadar lemak: 4,765%), dosis kunyit 17,5% (kadar protein : 18,112%), dosis kunyit 12,5% (kadar karbohidrat : 68,253%), dan dosis kunyit 12,5% (kadar abu: 1,278%). Penggunaan ekstrak kunyit berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap TPC pada kerupuk cumi, perlakuan yang paling baik adalah perlakuan C dengan nilai TPC sebesar 28.350 koloni/ gram. Penggunaan esktrak kunyit sebagai bahan anti bakteri pada proses pembuatan kerupuk cumi mampu menghambat aktivitas bakteri dan mempunyai kandungan gizi yang cukup tinggi. AbstractSquid crackers are currently quite popular with people in all circles because of the high nutritional content of squid, especially the protein content of 17.9 g / 100 g of fresh squid. This study aims to determine the quality of the best squid crackers (Loligo sp.) by adding different turmeric (Curcuma domestica). The analysis carried out included: Proximate analysis (levels: water, ash, fat, protein, and carbohydrates), and Total Plate Count (TPC) tests. This study used an experimental method, completely randomized design (CRD), with 4 treatments without the administration of turmeric extract (O), dosing 12.5% (A), 15% (B) and 17.5% (C) respectively 6 repetitions. The results of the proximate test analysis, the use of turmeric extract on the making of squid crackers had a significant effect on the quality of squid crackers with the use of the best turmeric extract: 12.5% turmeric dose (moisture content: 9.622%), 17.5% turmeric dose ( fat content: 4.765%), turmeric dosage 17.5% (protein content: 18.112%), 12.5% turmeric dose (carbohydrate level: 68.253%), and 12.5% turmeric dose (ash content: 1.278%). The use of turmeric extract has a very significant effect on TPC on squid crackers, the best treatment is treatment C with a TPC value of 28,350 colonies / gram. The use of turmeric extract as an anti-bacterial ingredient in the process of making squid crackers is able to inhibit bacterial activity and has a fairly high nutrient content.

ABSTRAKCurcuma zedoaria merupakan tanaman herbal yang telah banyak digunakan sebagai sebagaiantikanker, analgesik, antiinflamasi, dan antioksidan. Namun, uji klinis yang memanfaatkanC. zedoaria untuk mencegah dan mengobati penyakit-penyakit infeksi belum banyakdilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil kualitatif ekstrak kunyit putih danpengaruhnya terhadap profil hematologi mencit Balb/c (M. musculus) yang diinfeksi S.typhimurium. Mencit diberikan ekstrak kunyit putih selama 7 hari, pada hari ke 7 diinfeksi S.typhimurium pada bagian intraperitonial. Pengamatan profil hematologi dilakukan pada harike 0 (sebelum pemberian perlakuan), hari ke 7, hari ke 10 dan hari ke 13. Penelitian inidirancang dengan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL), kemudian data yang diperoleh dianalisisdengan ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengaruh yang signifikan (p<0,05) dariperlakuan terhadap proliferasi leukosit mencit Balb/c dengan waktu pengamatan, macamperlakuan (saline, ekstrak kunyit putih, ekstrak kunyit putih dan infeksi S. typhimurium,infeksi S. typhimurium saja) dan interaksinya. Tidak ditemukan pengaruh yang signifikan dariperlakuan terhadap proliferasi eritrosit (p>0,05) baik dari segi waktu pengamatan, jenisperlakuan maupun interaksi keduanya. KLT dilakukan untuk mengetahui profil kualitatifkomponen ekstrak metanol kunyit. Mice were treated with a white turmeric extract for 7days, on day 7 infected with S. typhimurium in the intraperitonial. Observation on hematologyprofile performed on day 0 (before administration of treatment), day 7, day 10 and day 13.The study was designed with a completely randomized design (CRD), then the data wereanalyzed with ANOVA. Results of this study showed a significant (p <0.05) effect oftreatment on the leukocyte proliferation of mice Balb / c with the time of observation, rangeof treatment (saline, white turmeric extract, turmeric extract white and S. typhimuriuminfection, infection with S. typhimurium alone) and interactions. There was no signifinateffect of treatment on the proliferation of erythrocytes (p> 0.05) in terms of the time ofobservation, type of treatment and its interaction. TLC was done to determine the qualitative profile component of the methanol extract of turmeric white. Five green fluorescent spotswere observed with Rf values of with Rf values of 0.224, 0.346, 0.644, 0.832, 0.879 forfaction A, B, C, D and E, respectively.Keywords: Immunomodulators, White turmeric extract, S. typhimurium, Hematology,qualitative profile.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of supplementation of turmeric powder (Curcuma longa L.) before mature sex to the level of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) serum quail of Japan (Coturnix coturnic japonica L.). This study uses an experimental method with completely randomized design pattern. The test animal used is 45 female Japanese quail of female divided into 3 groups, namely; P0: Japanese quail that is not given turmeric powder, P1: Japanese quail given turmeric powder with dose 54 mg/quail/day, P2: Japanese quail given turmeric powder with dose 108 mg/quail/day. Each group consists of 5 repetitions. Levels of HDL and LDL serum were taken at the Japanese quail. The data obtained were analyzed uses analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan test with 95% confidence interval (α = 0.05). The result showed that the powder of turmeric before genital effect (P˂0.05) increased the HDL level and decreased the LDL level of Japanese quail. Provision of turmeric powder at dose of up to 108 mg/quail day were relatively higher raising serum HDL levels and relatively higher lowering LDL levels of Japanese quail.

Latar Belakang: Curcuma longa dikatakan memiliki aktifitas hepatoprotektor, renoprotektor dan antiinflamasi terhadap dosis toksik parasetamol. Mengingat pemakaian jangka pendek dan jangka panjang, dan prevalensi toksisitas overdosis parasetamol semakin meningkat, perlu diteliti apakah Curcuma longa memproteksi kerusakan lambung, hepar dan renal sehingga dapat bersinergi dengan pengobatan overdosis parasetamol. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini adalah eksperimental murni dengan rancangan acak lengkap (completely randomized design), menggunakan 36 ekor mencit jantan galur swiss. Dibagi 6 kelompok yaitu kontrol negatif, kontrol sham, kontrol positif, perlakuan satu, dua dan tiga. Tiga dosis ekstrak Curcuma longa terpurifikasi etil asetat 65 mg/kgBB, 487mg/kgBB dan 1040mg/kgBB diberikan selama 14 hari, dilanjutkan dosis tosik parasetamol 520 mg/kgBB selama 7 hari. Pemeriksaan serum SGOT, SGPT, ureum, kreatinin dan histopatologi lambung, hepar, renal untuk menilai apakah ekstrak Curcuma longa dapat memberikan proteksi kerusakan lambung, hepar dan renal dari akibat pemberian parasetamol dosis toksik. Hasil dan Diskusi: Hasil pemeriksaan SGOT (p = 0,233), SGPT (p = 0,004), ureum (p = 0,19), kreatinin (p = 0,009) dan histopatologi lambung (p = 0,00), hepar (p = 0,00), dan renal (p = 0,00) menunjukkan ekstrak Curcuma longa terpurifikasi etil asetat memberikan efek toksik yang simultan dengan dosis toksik parasetamol. Efek toksik ini dapat dijelaskan karena bioaviabilitas curcumin dalam ekstrak Curcuma longa rendah sehingga pengaruh terhadap dosis toksik parasetamol dalam hepatosit diragukan, meningkatkan efek sitotoksisitas, dan menurunkan ekskresi metabolit toksik parasetamol. Kesimpulan: Ekstrak Curcuma longa tidak memproteksi toksisitas terhadap gaster, hepar dan renal dari pemberian parasetamol dosis toksis pada mencit galur Swiss.

Noodles is a food favored by the public. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of rice straw ash extract and turmeric extract to the elasticity and organoleptic quality of wet noodle. This study used a completely randomized design with the addition of straw ash extract concentration treatment variations ( 3%, 5%, and 7% ) , and the addition of turmeric extract ( 1%, and 1.5% ). The results of the analysis indicate that the elasticity of wet noodles all treatments gave a real difference at a significance level of 5%. The organoleptic analysis showed that all treatments gave significant effect on color, flavor, aroma, firmness at a significance level of 5 % , which is highest rank in the treatment of straw ash extract concentration of 5% and 1 % turmeric extract.Keywords: wet noodles, straw ash extract, turmeric extract

<p class="NoParagraphStyle" align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle" align="center"> </p><p class="Pa0"> Target production of catfish in aquaculture can be reached by suppressing the pathogenic bacterial infection. Previous works had shown that turmeric <em>Curcuma longa </em>has antibacterial activity. The objectives of this research were to determine the best method of extraction and to evaluate the efficacy of turmeric extract as feed additive to control <em>Edwardsiella tarda </em>disease in catfish culture. Briefly, the objective was achieved through <em>in vitro </em>assay based on inhibition ability of extraction method against <em>E. tarda</em>, while the following objective was obtained through <em>in vivo </em>assay based on their survival during challenge test either as preventive or curative measurement. A complete randomized design with three replications was used for each assay. Furthermore, challenge test was done by mean intraperitoneal injection at concentration 106 cfu/mL of <em>E. tarda </em>(LD50). The results showed that 15 minutes decoction method allowed the best inhibition with diameter 7.42 mm of clear zone and then curative measurement using turmeric extract could be the best application against <em>E. tarda </em>since it gave 86.67% of survival. Clinical signs such as swelling, hemoraghic, body ulcer, gastroentritis and gaseous captivity were observed on challenged fish. Metoda ekstraksi kunyit diuji secara <em>in vitro </em>dengan metoda zona hambat, sedangkan efikasi diuji secara in vivo melalui perlakuan pencegahan dan pengobatan. Penelitian didesain dalam rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga ulangan. Efikasi ekstrak kunyit diketahui dari nilai sintasan ikan lele hasil uji tantang <em>E. Tarda </em>melalui injeksi peritoneal dengan dosis 106 cfu/ mL (LD50). Hasil uji <em>in vitro </em>menunjukkan bahwa metode dekoksi selama 15 menit memberikan zona hambat terbaik yaitu sebesar 7,42 mm. Hasil uji <em>in vivo </em>menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kunyit sebagai tindak pengobatan memberikan nilai sintasan terbaik, yaitu sebesar 86,67%. Ikan lele yang diuji tantang menunjukkan gejala klinis berupa pembengkakan, luka, gastroentritis, dan gas pada perut. Traditional medicine in Indonesia has been known by the public before formal health services using modern medicine. Indonesia has many type of herbal plants which have medicinal properties including dadap (Erythrina orientalis). This study aims to utilized dadap herbal liniment by modifying heating in Vigin Cocanut Oil. The study conducted in the laboratory of Agricultural Product Processing using a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor is the addition of 250 ml (M1), 375 ml (m2), and 400 ml (M3) Virgin Cocanut Oil treatment. The second factor is the heating tim of 5 minutes (L1), 10 minutes (L2), and 15 minutes (L3). Observation variable consisted of yield, Specific gravity, and organoleptic test of aroma and colored. The result showed an average yield of 87.70-91.88%. The highest yield was found in the treatment of adding 400 ml Virgin Cocanut Oil and 15 minutes of heating time. The highest type of weight was found in the treatment of addition of 325 ml Virgin Cocanut Oil and 5 minutes heating time. Based on the organoleptic scent test, the everage penalist gives a like answer. Organoleptic colors of reudeuep herbal products is according to SNI number 06-23-2006.

The use of colorants in the dried noodle manufactures is an effort of product diversification. Besides of being used as a natural coloring agent, this peel extract is also used to improve nutritional value of the expected product. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of red dragon fruit peel extract on the physical quality of dried noodle.  The study was conducted by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with one factor, namely concentration of red dragon fruit peel extract (N1 = 10 ml, N2 = 15 ml, N3 = 20 ml, N4 = 25 ml, N5 = 30 ml).  The observations of its physical quality consisted of water absorption, solid loss during cooking, and organoleptic tests (aroma and color).  The best quality of dried noodle was obtained by using 30 ml red dragon fruit peel extract (N5) with physical properties, namely DSA levels of 351.92%, solid loss during cooking 4.78%, aroma 3.79 (like) and color 3.89 (like).
