Soybean plants are constantly exposed to abiotic stresses that compromise production, among these, in areas of Brazilian Cerrado, mainly in the northeast region, periods of drought can occur due to irregular and summer rainfall. Thus, the objective of this work was to determine the physiological response of Monsoy 9350 soybean at different stages of development, when subjected to water stress. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in the experimental area of the campus of the Universidade Federal do Piauí (UFPI) in Bom Jesus-PI, assembled in a 3x3 factorial scheme, with water in the soil at three levels (50% VTP; 75% VTP and 100% VTP) and three phenological phases, budding to bloom (BF); bloom to complete grain filling (FE) and budding to complete grain filling (BE), the experiment consisted of 9 treatments, in a randomized block design, containing 4 replications. The evaluation of the experiment was standardized according to the phenological stages and not according to the time. The following variables were evaluated: plant height, internode length, internode thickness, number of branches, chlorophyll index, number of flowers, insertion of the first pod and number of pods. According to the evaluated results, the water stress in soybean for cultivating Monsoy 9350 mainly affects the period from budding to bloom, interfering negatively in height, chlorophyll and number of pods.

ABSTRACT Biostimulants currently available on the market include those containing seaweed extract. There is sufficient scientific evidence to conclude that applying biostimulants to agricultural crops can positively impact plant growth and yield. However, results differ between plants species and environmental conditions. As such, the present study aimed to assess the effects of doses and application times of a biostimulant based on seaweed (Ecklonia maxima) extract on the morphology and yield of soybean crops. The experiment was conducted in a field in the municipality of Uberaba, Minas Gerais state (MG), Brazil, in dystrophic red latosol. A randomized block design was used, with four repetitions, in a 3 x 5 factorial scheme consisting of three application times (phenological growth stages: V4, R1 and V4+R1) and five doses of foliar -applied biostimulant (0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 mL ha-1). In general, biostimulant application influenced the number of branches, nodes, flowers, and pods on the soybean plants and, consequently, crop yield. A dose of 607 mL ha-1 promoted a 6.1% greater grain yield (5379 kg ha-1) than that obtained without biostimulant spraying (5070 kg ha-1). Application in stage R1 resulted in plants with more flowers and pods.

We aimed to assess rice yield components as function of water stress imposed at distinct crop growth stages under greenhouse, in randomized block design under factorial scheme 3 × 4 + 1, with four replications. The factor “A” was the growth stage in which water stress was imposed, being (a) vegetative, (b) reproductive 1, and (c) reproductive 2; factor “B” was four levels of water stress (0-200 kPa). There was also an additional treatment consisting of a flooded check. Water was replenished to saturation every time the threshold stress was reached. At the end of the cycle, all panicles were counted and collected, per plant, for further analysis. In the lab, grains per panicle were counted, being classified either as whole kernel or aborted grains, whose results were used for obtaining sterility percentage. Whole kernel grains were weighted for obtaining the 1000 grains weight for each treatment, and the consequent plant grain yields. Number of panicles was not affected when stress was imposed after panicle initiation, but when imposed at tillering it was reduced; at grain filling, water stress promoted grains sterility higher than 90%; grain weight was only reduced when carbohydrates were directed to root formation in detriment of grain filling; lower rice grain yield per plant was observed even when treatments were maintained above 10kPa all along the cycle, compared to the flooded treatment.

ABSTRACT The population increase and the need of intensifying food production, coupled with the scarcity of water resources, have led to the search of alternatives that reduce consumption and optimize the water use during cultivation. In this context, hydrogels become a strategy in agricultural management, due to their water retention capacity in the soil and availability to plants. This study aimed at evaluating the efficiency of hydrogels on the development and production of cowpea bean ('Sempre-verde' cultivar) under water stress, in a greenhouse. The experiment was performed in a randomized block design, with five replications, in a 4 x 5 factorial scheme, consisting of four types of hydrogel (Hydroplan-EB HyA, with granulometry of 1-3 mm; Hydroplan-EB HyB, with granulometry of 0.5-1 mm; Hydroplan-EB HyC, with granulometry < 0.5 mm; Polim-Agri, with granulometry of 1-0.5 mm) and five concentrations (0 g pot-1; 1.5 g pot-1; 3 g pot-1; 4.5 g pot-1; 6 g pot-1). The following traits were evaluated: number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod and grain yield. The highest concentration (6 g pot-1) resulted in a higher number of pods and yield for all the hydrogels, especially for HyC and Polim-Agro, which presented 7.4 pods plant-1 and 7.0 pods plant-1, with yield of 15.43 g plant-1 and 16.68 g plant-1, respectively. The use of hydrogel shows to be efficient for reducing yield losses under water stress.

Soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) demand is high in Indonesia, however national production is low, therefore improving productivity is important. The research was aimed to determine the effect of application of biofertilizer containing N- fixing and P- solubilizing bacteria on the growth and production of soybean in lowland swamp. The experiment was conducted at Labuhan Ratu VI Village, District of Labuhan Ratu, East Lampung Regency from September to December 2014. The experiment was arranged in factorial randomized block design with three replications. N and P fertilizers were applied in four levels. Doses of N were 0, 11.25, 22.50, 33.75 kg ha-1, doses of P were 0, 36, 72, 108 P2O5 kg ha-1, in combination with and without biofertilizer application. The results showed that interaction between biofertilizer and N significantly affected number of branches and number of leaves at maximum vegetative phase. The influence of three types of fertilizer had no significant effect on the productivity of soybean in lowland swamp with soil pH of 7.0 and medium soil fertility. It is recommended to apply Biofertilizer + 11,25 kg N ha-1 + 36 kg P2O5 ha-1 to obtain high soybean production in lowland swamp area.

Keywords: nitrogen, phosphate, productivity, soil fertility

ABSTRACT: Conyza spp. is among the main weeds reported worldwide. Due to its aggressiveness, such as high seed production and dispersion, and the growing reports of biotypes resistant to glyphosate, paraquat, and other herbicides, different control practices are required. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of herbicides with sequential application of glufosinate in soybean pre-sowing for control of Conyza spp. with indicative of resistant to paraquat. The study was carried out in the field, at Assis Chateaubriand and Palotina, state of Paraná, Brazil, in the 2018/19 season. The experiments were conducted in a randomized block design with four replications. The treatments consisted in application of glyphosate, 2,4-D, saflufenacil, glufosinate, saflufenacil/imazethapyr, diclosulam, paraquat/diuron, paraquat and imazethapyr/flumioxazin, at different combinations, in soybean pre-sowing. Control of Conyza spp., crop injury to soybean plants and variables related to agronomic performance (plant height and yield) were evaluated. All treatments were selective for soybean, which showed stronger crop injury in the presence of diclosulam herbicide, but this did not compromise soybean agronomic performance. In general, control levels were high for the treatments used. Except for paraquat treatments, in the area with the highest frequency of Conyza spp. with indicative of resistant to paraquat, and imazethapyr/flumioxazin treatment in both areas. These control results emphasized the importance of glufosinate in this management system and showed promising results for saflufenacil/imazethapyr.

ABSTRACT The research was arranged in a randomized block design (RBD), with 10 treatments and 3 replications. To get the active insects pests, net sweepings were done for the flying insects, while other pests were observed directly on the plants. Collecting data of plant damages were made by systematic diagonal lines, except for viruses, census was conducted on each experimental plot. The results of this experiment documented 12 species of insect pests attacking soybean plants. Soybean pest populations were relatively low, except for Aphis glycine that was quite high. In all treatments, plant damage caused by sucking pest Piezodorus sp and Riptortus linearis were relatively low of 1.53 % to 1.94 %; it indicated an insignificant effect to decline the production. Crop damages by virus showed a significant effect. The lowest virus attacks found on compost of 5 tons per ha with 43 plants infected per treatment, the highest virus attack showed on combination of 5 tons compost per ha + inorganic fertilizer + mulch, in which there were 274 infected plants per treatment. Apparently virus attacks gave impact on soybean production. The highest production were documented on treatment of 5 tons compost per ha with production of 0.55 tons per ha, while the lowest production was found on combination of 5 tons compost per ha + inorganic fertilizer + mulch, in which the production was 0.22 tons per ha. Keywords: fertilizer, mulch, insect pest, production
