Background: Mothers and new-borns are vulnerable to illness and deaths during the postnatal period. Care during postnatal period is the important part of maternal health care as the serious and life-threatening complications can occur in postnatal period.Methods: A Quantitative approach with pre- experimental design was used to study the effectiveness of STP on postnatal care. Sixty postnatal mothers were selected from tertiary care hospital. The Purposive sampling techniques was used to select the study subjects. Data was collected by using Structured Knowledge questionnaire.Results: The results show that the overall mean pre-test knowledge score of postnatal mothers was 19.8±2.98 and mean post-test knowledge score of postnatal mothers was 26.28±1.89 and the mean difference was 6.48. This revealed that the STP was an effective method in improving mother’s knowledge on postnatal care. There was no significant association found between pre-test knowledge score with their demographic variables except occupation.Conclusions: The findings of the study revealed that STP was effective in enhancing the knowledge of postnatal mothers on postnatal care.

Abstract:A descriptive correlational survey to assess knowledge and practice of postnatal mothers on newborn care was carried out among 30 mothers using valid, reliable, structured knowledge and practice questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS version 16. The findings of the study showed that most of the sample 24(80%) were in the age group 21-30 years, most of them 16(53.3%) were primipara, 15(50%) had normal vaginal delivery and 15 (50%) had LSCS. Majority of the sample 25 (83.3%) belonged to Hindu religion, most of them 19 (63.3%) belonged to joint family, most the samples 17 (56.7%) lived in a rural area, majority of the mothers 17 (56.7%) were housewives. Majority of the new- borns, 24 (80%) were above 37 weeks of gestation, most of the new born 21(70%) were below 6 days of age, majority of the new born 19(63.3%) were male, majority of newborn 16(53.3%) were above 3000 grams of birth weight. Majority 23 (76.7%) of mothers had good knowledge on new-born care. Most of 16 (53.33%) of mothers had excellent practice on newborn care. Relationship between knowledge and practice score of the mother was not statistically significant at 0.05 level (r=0.276, p=0.140). The education of the mothers (x2(df) =11.642(3), p=0.009) had significant association with the knowledge of the mother regarding new-born care. Keeping in mind the findings of the study it is recommended that an educational programme regarding newborn care can be organized to the antenatal and postnatal mothers

Background: Incessant rains in the Kolhapur region has led to disastrous flood situations in the past. Disaster preparedness is therefore necessitated to counter the loss suffered by the residents and is closely linked to knowledge improvement. Self-instruction Module (SIM) has been extensively used as a learning tool in healthcare and has proven its effectiveness in knowledge improvement. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of SIM on disaster preparedness among the residents of the flood prone areas of Karveer taluka, Kolhapur and to determine the association between the knowledge scores and the socio-demographic variables. Methods: Consenting participants from Karveer taluka were recruited to evaluate the efficiency of SIM through a structured knowledge tool using pre-test-post-test design. Both—SIM and knowledge tool, were sent for expert evaluation. Data were collected during specific periods between January and February 2019. Improvement in knowledge score was determined through qualitative and evaluative approach. Results: Significant improvement in knowledge scores was observed between pre-and post-test scores (P<0.001) of 100 consenting participants. Association was lacking between the knowledge scores and the socio-demographic variables. Conclusion: SIM developed in the study was effective in improving knowledge score, across all age groups, and could be used to improve the disaster preparedness of the residents of flood-prone areas.

ABSTRACT A study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on global fund to fight against AIDS, TB, Malaria among the GNM students at Baba Farid College of Nursing Kotkapura, Faridkot Punjab. The aim was to enhance the knowledge regarding GFATM. The objective were to assess the knowledge among the GNM students regarding GFATM, the second objective is to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding GFATM among the GNM students and the third objective is to determine the association between posttest knowledge score with their selected socio demographic variables. The sample consists of 50 students. The pretest assessment of knowledge of the students was carried out using structured knowledge questionnaires followed by STP session regarding GFATM. After 7 days the post test was conducted using the same structured knowledge questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Reveals that in pretest 36 students had knowledge regarding GFATM where as in posttest majority students’ knowledge enhance with score 48(96%). There is significant difference between posttest knowledge score among students with selected demographic variables that are age, residential area. There is no significant difference in the knowledge score among students of selected demographic variables like in religion, age, education stream, area of living. Background: Perineal trauma, particularly caused following vaginal delivery, is associated with short and long-term morbidity for women; therefore, intervention that increases the probability of an intact perineum is necessary. When a child is born, the mother and the postnatal period are both extremely vulnerable. Objectives: 1. To assess the pretest knowledge regarding perineal care in primipara postnatal mothers. 2. To assess the posttest knowledge regarding perineal care in primipara postnatal mothers. 3. To assess the effectiveness of Self Instructional Module on knowledge regarding perineal care in primipara postnatal mothers. 4. To associate the posttest knowledge score regarding perineal care in primipara postnatal mothers with demographic variables. Materials and Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pretest and posttest design was adopted to assess the effectiveness of a self-instruction module on knowledge regarding perineal care among primipara postnatal mothers. This study was carried out using inferential and descriptive data. The techniques for testing knowledge regarding perineal care among primipara postnatal mothers are discussed in this chapter. It comprises a research method description, the design and validation of the tools and questionaries, the data collection procedure and data analysis plan, the identification of targets, and the sample and sampling techniques. Results: Better care with regular maintenance of hygiene of perineal area among the primipara postnatal mothers in selected area in Wardha district allow them from preventing from perineal discomfort and infection and a better quality of life with other intervention and by providing knowledge.

The study was carried out in Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Data was collected from 60 care givers of primigravida mothers. A set of 20 questionnaire were used to evaluate the knowledge of care givers of primigravida mothers. Convenience sampling technique were used. The research design of the study was One group pre-test and post-test design. Data presented in the pre-test and post-test knowledge score of care givers of primigravida mothers show that in pre-test majority 76.67% had inadequate knowledge and 23.33% had moderate knowledge scores. Where as in the post-test majority 3.33% had moderate knowledge scores 96.67% had adequate knowledge. The mean difference of the pre-test and post-test score was 7.33.

Abstract Background Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a life-threatening opportunistic infection which usually occurs in immunocompromised patients. Recommended duration of voriconazole therapy is a minimum of 6-12 weeks for IPA, despite the lack of any firm evidence. In addition, risk factors for relapse of IPA are still unclear. Here, we explored risk factors for IPA relapse after initial treatment. Methods All patients with proven or probable IPA who had finished voriconazole treatment between 2005 and 2019 in a tertiary-care hospital were reviewed. IPA relapse was defined as re-diagnosis of proven or probable IPA at the same site within 1 year after treatment termination. Short course of voriconazole treatment was defined as a treatment less than 9 weeks, which is a median of the recommended minimum duration of therapy from the Infectious Disease Society of America. The radiological response was defined as a reduction in IPA burden by more than 50% on chest computed tomography (CT). Results Of 87 patients who had completed voriconazole treatment, 14 (16.1%) experienced IPA relapse. Multivariable Cox regression identified that short voriconazole treatment duration (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 3.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.1–12.3; P=0.033) and radiological non-response (aHR, 4.6; 95% CI, 1.2–17.5; P=0.026) were independently associated with relapse of IPA after adjusting for several clinical risk factors. Conclusion Less improvement in CT, and short duration of voriconazole therapy were the independent risk factors for relapse after treatment of IPA. Longer duration of therapy should be considered for those at higher risk of relapse. Disclosures All Authors: No reported disclosures

Abstract Background The early postnatal period is a dangerous time for both mother and baby where morbidity and mortality are highly prevalent if proper care is not done. Post natal care (PNC) knowledge has significant role in reducing such complications. In this study, the knowledge of postpartum mothers on PNC and its determinants were determined. Methods A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted in postpartum mothers (PpM) who attended all maternal delivery services in Asmara. Data was collected by a structured questionnaire. All (n = 250) PpM who gave birth in December, 2017 were included in the study. Independent samples t-test and one way ANOVA were used to compare the scores in knowledge across categories of background characteristics using SPSS. Bonferroni post-hoc test was performed for variables that were found to be significant while using ANOVA tool. P-values less than 0.05 were considered as significant. Results The percentage of PpM who cited vaginal bleeding, as a maternal danger sign, and fever, as a baby danger sign, were 83.2 and 58.8%, respectively. The majority (96%) of PpM responded the correct answer on where to go if they note any danger signs. In addition, more than nine tenth of PpM correctly identified injectable contraceptives (92.7%) and oral contraceptive (91.5%). The percentages of knowledge in recognizing the necessary nutrients ranged from 87.6% for carbohydrates to 46% for minerals. The percentages of correct knowledge regarding first baby bath, frequency of breast feeding, umbilical care, duration of exclusive breast feeding, need and purpose of vaccine were 40.1, 81.9, 77.4, 94.8, and 99.2% respectively. The mean PNC knowledge score was 24.89/60. The score of knowledge on postnatal care was found to significantly differ across the categories of residence (p < 0.001) and ethnicity (p = 0.015). An increasing trend of knowledge score was observed with increase in age group (p < 0.001), educational level (p = 0.021), gravida (p < 0.001) and para (p < 0.001). Conclusion Considerable gaps in knowledge regarding postnatal care among postpartum mothers were evident. Special attention should be laid on rural residents, single/living together, junior/below in educational level, primigravida/para, non-Tigrigna ethnicity, and 17 to 25 years old mothers.

INTRODUCTION: Staphylococcus aureus causes a wide range of infections including skin and soft tissue infections to life-threatening systemic infections like sepsis, endocarditis. This study ais to evaluate the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of S.aurues among various clinical specimens. METHODS: The study included 326 S.aurues, isolated from various clinical specimens which were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing as per CLSI guidelines. RESULTS: Among the 326 isolates, the highest were from pus specimens (47.85%), and was from Orthopaedics department (28.53%). Among the isolates, 219 (67.17%) were Methicilin resistant. All isolates were sensitive to Vancomycin, and all urine isolates were sensitive to Nitrofurantoin. The highest resistance was towards Penicillin (87.42%), Erythromycin (85.28), and Ciprooxacin (83.13%). CONCLUSION: The most effective way to prevent MRSA infection in every hospital is by performing continuous surveillance of antibiotic resistance and by following an effetive antibiotic policy.

Hypertension is one of the common complications and contributes significantly to perinatal mortality and morbidity. Hypertension is a sign of underlying pathology which may be pre-existing or appear for the first time during pregnancy. The identification of clinical entity and effective management plays a significant role in the outcome of pregnancy, both for the mother and the baby. The main aim of the study was to assess the effect of planned teaching on the knowledge regarding pregnancy induced hypertension among antenatal mothers. The study was conducted on conveniently selected 30 samples of antenatal mothers in Civil hospital, Shahpur. Data was collected by Socio-demographic variables and Self Structured Knowledge Questionnaire. Collected data was analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Results indicated that the planned teaching had significant impact on knowledge regarding pregnancy induced hypertension among antenatal mothers. In this study, posttest knowledge score was associated with education and occupation.

Hypertension (HTN) is an enormous health problem and is one of the biggest health challenges in the 21st century. Effective management in hypertension requires a multi-sectorial approach. Dietary management plays a vital role in managing blood pressure especially beetroot juice which contains nitrates helps in vasodilation thus reducing hypertension. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding hypertension and supplementation of beetroot juice among hypertensive patients and To find the association between mean pre-test knowledge score about hypertension and supplementation of beet root juice with the selected demographic variables. A pre-experimental one group, pre-test post-test design was used for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 30 hypertensive patients. The investigator assessed the knowledge regarding HTN and supplementation of beetroot juice in managing hypertension using structured knowledge questionnaire and then the information booklet was administered to the subjects. The collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean post-test knowledge score (x2=23.87) was higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (x1=17.40). The mean difference between post-test and pre-test knowledge score was highly significant. The obtained ‘t’ value (11.75) is higher than the table value (t29=1.70 at p<0.05 level significance). There was no significant association between knowledge score and selected demographic variables like age, gender, religion, education, occupation, income, and duration of illness. (2=2.143, 2=0.536, 2=0.000, 2=0.536, 2=2.143, 2=0.133, 2=0.536). Hence it can be concluded that information booklet is an effective strategy for providing information and improving the knowledge of adult hypertensive patients.
