Background: Diabetic macular edema (DME) characterized by deposition of hard exudates in central retina is now the leading cause of visual loss in persons with diabetes mellitus. Several studies have shown association between severity of retinal hard exudates and various components of serum lipid. The aim of this study is to estimate the proportion of severity of retinal hard exudates with risk factors like dyslipidemia, duration of diabetes, hypertension, HbA1c levels and microalbuminuria.  Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was done involving 242 diabetic retinopathy patients. After dilated fundus examination, severity of retinal hard exudates was graded by photographs with Topcon fundus camera using modified airlie house classification. These grades were divided into three groups. Group 1 (absent or minimal hard exudates) included patients with grade 0, 1 or 2 hard exudates; group 2 (hard exudates present), included patients with grade 3 or 4 hard exudates and group 3 (prominent hard exudates), patients with grade 5 hard exudates. Values of serum lipid profile, HbA1C and urine microalbumin were analysed in association with severity of retinal hard exudates.Results: Out of the 242 diabetic retinopathy patients, the male female ratio was 1:1 and the mean age was 59.8±7.4 years. There were 12% patients in group one, 52.5% in group two and 35.5% in group three. On univariate analysis, severity of hard exudates was significantly associated with serum cholesterol (p value<0.01), LDL (p value<0.01) triglycerides (p value<0.01), HbA1c (p value<0.01), systemic hypertension (p value<0.01) and urine microalbumin (p value=0.01).  Conclusions: Severity of retinal hard exudates in diabetic retinopathy patients is significantly associated with risk factors like systemic hypertension, dyslipidemia, raised HbA1C levels and urine microalbumin.

Abstract Introduction.Diabetic retinopathy is a progressive microangiopathy characterized by damage and occlusion of small blood vessels. The earliest pathologic changes are thickening of the capillary endothelial basement membrane and a reduction in the number of pericits. Diabetic retinopathy is the main cause of vision loss in type 1 of DM patients and has various risk factors such as chronic hyperglycemia, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and elevated HbA1C levels. Methods.This research was conducted using a descriptive observational analytic method with a cross sectional approach at The Eye Polyclinic (RSUP) Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang used secondary data on diabetic retinopathy patients. The sample consisted of 64 patients with a total sampling technique, there were 50 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Results.There was a significant relationship between HbA1C levels (p value = 0.050) with a PR value = 1.463 and total cholesterol (p value = 0.038) with a PR value = 1.667 for diabetic retinopathy. Conclusion.HbA1C levels and total cholesterol are significant risk factors for diabetic retinopathy.

Objective: To assess CKD prevalence and risk factors including socio-demography among diabetics by estimating GFR rather than serum creatinine (sCr). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Dec. 15 2019 through Aug. 15 2020, among 800 diabetics attending tertiary diabetes centers, Baghdad. Data was collected by self-administered questionnaire. SPSS was used for data analysis by (mean, standard deviation and T-test) for quantitative variables and (frequency, percentage, Chi-square test and Kappa index) for qualitative variables. P-Value less than 0.05 was considered significant.  Results: 800 diabetics for last 5-40 years, 95.6% with type2. Aged 52.1±13.2 years, with male: female ratio 1.03:1, 63.6% were with no income, sCr level was 0.86±0.3 mg/dl, and eGFR by Cockcroft Gault (CG) and CKD-EPI equations was 100.4±36.5 & 92.2±25.5 ml/min/1.73m2 respectively. CKD prevalence based on sCr, and eGFR assessed by above equations was 13.3%, 20% and 15.9% respectively (p<0.001). Those with CKD were hypertensive, females, and living in peripheries. Conclusions: Diabetic patients, mainly those with risk factors are more likely to develop CKD. It is better to detect CKD intially by estimating the GFR, rather than serum creatinine level alone. Furthermore, using CKD-EPI equation might be better than the CG formula to estimate the GFR.

Introduction: Among HIV infected children, skin disorders are vital as they give a clue to diagnosis of the HIV disease. Various factors are associated with occurrence of skin disorders among HIV infected children. Objectives: To determine the factors associated with prevalence of skin disorders among HIV infected children in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Kano, Nigeria. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional study conducted to determine the factors affecting skin disorders among HIV infected children attending Paediatric Infectious Disease Clinic of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, Nigeria. A total of 223 HIV infected participants aged 6weeks to14 years were recruited for this study. Chi-square test or Fishers exact test where necessary were used to determine the difference between proportions of categorical variables and level of significance was set at 0.05. Multivariate analysis was used to further analyse significant relationships from the univariate analysis. The confidence level was set at 95% and a p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant Results: There were 110 (49.3%) males and 113 females (50.7%). The male to female ratio was found to be 1:1.1. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of the children had skin disorder. A multivariate analysis showed that only age, social class and immune status were significantly associated with the occurrence of skin disorders. Conclusion: Among the HIV infected children, age, socioeconomic class and immune status were the factors found to determine the Prevalence of skin disorders.

Context: The pandemic of diabetes is more explosive in developing countries and Bangladesh is one of the top 10 countries estimated to have the highest numbers of people with diabetes in 2000 and 2030. Aims: The aim of this study was to quantify the prevalence and risk factors of diabetes among secretariat employees of Bangladesh. Settings and Design: A random sample of 1000 employees of Bangladesh Secretariat was included in this cross sectional study. Methods and Material: Blood glucose levels, both Fasting (FPG) and 2-hours after 75gm load, total cholesterol, triglycerides were measured in each case. Body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, was measured as well as collection of information regarding risk factors and socio-demographic variables. Statistical analysis used: Univariate analysis of all variables was done. Cohen’s Kappa was used to find agreement and odds ratios were calculated to assess risk factors. Results: The prevalence of diabetes was 12.3% and 7.5% according to FBG and 2-hours after 75gm glucose, respectively. Age of study population was e”20 years and male, female ratio was 4.75:1. The prevalence was almost similar among men (12.35%) and women (12.05%) considering FBG. While a higher prevalence among women (9.8%) was noticed than men (7%) after 75gm glucose. Pre-diabetic employees were 13.7 %( impaired glucose tolerance) and 31.8% (impaired Fasting glucose). Moderate agreement was observed between FBG and 2-hours after 75gm glucose (kappa 0.6). Increasing age, sedentary lifestyle (OR 1.5), diabetes among first degree relatives (OR 1.7), BMI >30 (OR 1.5), systolic blood pressure >130 (OR 1.2), total cholesterol >200 (OR 1.6), triglycerides >150 (OR 1.4) were found significantly related to diabetes. Conclusion: Increased prevalence of diabetes, IFG and IGT forecasts the upcoming diabetes explosion and calls for urgent steps towards the primary prevention in developing countries. Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the commonest causes of visual impairment and blindness in Nepal. Objectives: The study aims to explore the prevalence, risk factors and awareness of DR among admitted diabetic patients. Materials and methods: A non-interventional case series study was conducted among the inpatient diabetic cases referred for ophthalmic consultation. The patients’ detailed demographics, awareness on DR, concurrent systemic problems, and glycemic control status were recorded. DR was graded using the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study Criteria. Main outcome measures: The prevalence, risk factors and awareness of diabetic retinopathy among the study participants was analyzed. Results: A total of 277 diabetic patients were enrolled in the study. The mean age was 62.25 ± 13.26 years. Only one-third (34.6 %) of the cases were admitted for sugar control and newly diagnosed cases comprised of 19.49 %. Nearly half of the cases (46.6 %) were not aware of diabetic retinopathy and dilated fundus evaluation was done for the first time in 44.4 %. DR was found in 38.26 % of the cases and was diagnosed in 13 % of the new cases. Almost four-fifths (78 %) of the diabetics had had the disease for a duration of 16 to 20 years. Clinically significant macular edema was found in 5.78 % and proliferative DR in 2.52 %. DR was significantly associated with the duration of diabetes (P value = 0.001) and concurrent hypertension (P value = 0.004). Conclusion: The prevalence of DR was 38 % among the admitted diabetic cases and the DR was significantly associated with the duration of diabetes and systemic hypertension. Almost half of the cases had been unaware of DR before referral. AbstrakPreeklampsia merupakan penyebab utama kematian maternal selain perdarahan dan infeksi. Penyebab pasti terjadinya preeklampsia belum diketahui, namun terdapat faktor risiko yang mempengaruhi kejadian preeklampsia. Di RSUP Dr. M Djamil Padang terjadi peningkatan kasus preeklampsia setiap tahunnya dari tahun 2008-2012. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menentukan hubungan antara Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dan kejadian preeklampsia di RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Penelitian dilakukan di bagian Rekam Medis dengan menggunakan desain cross sectional study komparatif terhadap 46 pasien preeklampsia dan 46 ibu hamil yang tidak preeklampsia yang bersalin di RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang dalam kisaran tahun 2011-2013. Hasil analisis univariat menunjukkan nilai rerata IMT sebelum hamil pada pasien preeklampsia dengan nilai 24,15 kg/m2 berada pada kategori overweight, sedangkan ibu hamil yang tidak preeklampsia berada pada kategori normal, dengan nilai rerata IMT 22,3 kg/m2. Berdasarkan analisis bivariat menggunakan Mann Whitney tes diperoleh nilai P: 0,014 (P<0,05). Kesimpulan penelitianini adalah terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara IMT dengan kejadian preeklampsia di RSUP Dr. M. The exact cause of preeclampsia still unknown, but there are risk factors that affect the preeclampsia’s incident. There was an increase of preeclampsia’s case in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang each year from 2008-2012. The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between Body Mass Indeks (BMI) and preeclampsia’s incident in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The research was done at medical records department using cross sectional study comparative’s design toward 46 preeclamptic patients and 46 pregnant women who did not preeclampsia, which gave birth in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang on the range 2011-2013. Results of univariate analysis showed that BMI average value of patients with preeclampsia before pregnant were in overweight category (24,15 kg/m2), whereas pregnant women who did not preeclampsia are in normal category (22,3 kg/m2). Based on bivariate analysis using the Mann Whitney test, p value was obtained 0,014 (P<0,05). The conclusion is there’s significant correlation between BMI with preeclampsia’s incident in RSUP Dr. M. The nutritional status of pregnant women before and during pregnancy can affect the growth of the fetus in the womb. The purpose of this study was to look at the risk factors of  LBW events based on nutritional status based on the MUAC size of pregnant women. This research is analytical with cross sectional study design by sampling using the total sampling technique of 98 pregnant women in Kubang Village, Sukaresmi District, Cianjur Regency. Analyze data using Chi Square. Univariate analysis results from 98 respondents have good nutritional status (MUAC≥23.5 cm) which is as much as 78 (80%) and normal birth weight 64 (65.3%) pregnant women. The results of bivariate analysis there is a meaningful relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women based on LBW and the incidence of LBW value P value = 0.006 (P value<0.05). In conclusion there is a meaningful relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women based on MUAC and the incidence of LBW value P value = 0.006 (P value<0.05) value (OR=3.345, CI 2.234-8.562), respondents who have a history of malnutrition status while pregnant have a risk of 3,354 times giving birth to babies with LBW

Objective: To determine the frequency and risk factors of occupational noise induced hearing loss. Study Design: Cross sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Dispensary Unit of Jaith Bhuta Sugar Mill near Rahim Yar Khan, Southern Punjab.from Aug 2017 to Jan 2018. Methodology: This study was conducted using nonprobability consecutive sampling. n=300 workers of bothgenders aged 18-40 years were assessed. Basic demographic parameters, otoscopic examination and Pure Tone Audiometry were used for data collection. The Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 21. Results: Study included 215 (71.7%) males and 85 (28.3%) females with male to female ratio of 2.53: 1 and meanage of 28.34 ± 4.61 years. The frequency rate of hearing impairment (HI) was 90 (30%) out of 300 respondents inthis study. Out of 70 (100%) of respondents were affected with duration of job of 6-10 years. There was significant association between gender, age, education, duration of noise exposure with occupational noise induced hearing loss with p-value <0.001. Conclusion: There was high frequency of occupational noise induced hearing loss (ONIHL) with significantrisk factors being level and duration of exposure to noise (ETN), age, gender, education and hearing protectivedevices (HPD)’s.

The rate of stroke incidence is about 200 per 100,000 people throughout the world. This study aims to determine the Relation Suffer Stroke With Independence Level In Neurology Polyclinic TK II DR Ak Gani Palembang Year Hospital 2017. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with cross sectional design that is done by interviewing techniques with questionnaires on 42 respondents with Accidental sampling technique. This research was conducted in August 2017. Data analysis used is univariate data analysis and bivariate data analysis with one way anova test result. The results of univariate analysis showed that the duration of the respondents suffering from stroke was between 2.10 years to 3.38 years. Also found that most respondents were at the level of independence f; independent, except bathing, dressing, moving, and one other function with a total of 12 respondents. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the long suffering stroke with the level of independence with the value of p value 0.025. For that the need for rehabilitation to patients and families of patients in order to help improve the independence of stroke patients in doing their daily activities. ABSTRACT Antenatal Care is the care given to pregnant woman to monitor, support maternal health and maternal detect, whether normal or troubled pregnant women. Aki in Indonesia amounted to 359 in 100.000 live births. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between age and education in the clinic Budi Mulia Medika 2014. This study used a survey method whit cross sectional analytic. This is the overall study population of women with gestational age ≥36 weeks who come to visit the clinic Budi Mulia Medika Palembang on February 10 to 18. The study sample was taken in non-random with the technique of “accidental smapling “ with respondents who happens to be there or variable. The obtained using univariate and bivariate analysis using Chi-Square test statistic. The results of the univariate analysis showed that 83,3% of respondents did according to the standard prenatal care, high risk age 40,0 %, 60,0% lower risk of age, higher education 70,0%, 30,0% low education. Bivariate analysis showed that there was no significant relationship betwee age and pregnancy tests wit p value= 0,622, and significant relationship between education and prenatal care with p value= 0,019. From the results of this study are expected to need to increase outreach activities to the community about the importance of examination of pregnancy according to gestational age in an effort to reduse maternal mortality.   ABSTRAK Antenatal Care merupakan pelayanan  yang di berikan pada ibu hamil untuk memonitor, mendukung kesehatan ibu dan mendeteksi ibu, apakah ibu hamil normal atau bermasalah. Di Indonesia AKI berjumlah 359 per 100.000 kelahiran hidup. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara usia dan pendidikan dengan pemeriksaan kehamilan di klinik budi mulia medika tahun 2014. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian ini adalahseluruh ibu dengan usia kehamilan ≥ 36 minggu yang dating berkunjung ke Klinik Budi Mulia Medika pada tanggal 10-18 Februari. Sampel penelitian ini di ambil secara non random dengan tekhnik ‘’ Accidental Sampling’’ dengan responden yang kebetulan ada atau tersedia. Data yang di peroleh menggunakan analisis univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji statistik Chi-Square. Hasil analisis univariat ini menunjukan bahwa 83,8% responden melakukan pemeriksaan kehamilan sesuai standar, 16,7% tidak melakukan pemeriksaan kehamilan sesuai standar, usia resiko tinggi 40,0%, usia resiko rendah 60,0%, pendidikan tinggi 70,0 %, pendidikan rendah 30,0 %. Analisis bivariat menunjukan bahwa tidak ada hubungan bermakna antara usia dengan pemeriksaan kehamilan dengan p value =0,622, ada hubunngan bermakana antara pendidikan dengan pemeriksaan kehamilan dengan p value = 0,019. Dari hasil penelitian ini di harapkan perlu meningkatkan kegiatan penyuluhan kepada masyarakat tentang pentingnya dilakukan pemeriksaan kehamilan sesuai dengan umur kehamilan sebagai upaya menurunkan angka kematian ibu.
