The primary objective of this review was to examine the research literature for evidence about the caring behavior of Nurse Managers. After searching, we found 14 themes from five articles, then we rearranged the 14 themes into three themes of caring behavior of manager nurses. The first theme is the duty of nurse managers to improve nurse caring by coordingating nurses’ care of patients. This includes increasing continuity and accessibility of care for patients, promoting nurse’s careers professionally, supporting work balance, implementing caring behavior, and managing a caring culture. The second theme is the character of a nurse manager, such as democratic leadership, voluntary sharing, communication, respect, and feeling care. The third theme is the supporting and inhibiting factors for nurse managers such as formal organizational support, informal support from nurses, and a sense of mutual care between peers. The results suggest that nurse manager must have a strong role and character to maintain the caring culture of nurses.   Keywords: caring, nurse manager, care manager, qualitative

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose and test a model of the underlying mechanisms linking perceived availability of human resource (HR) practices relevant to older nurses and older nurses’ intentions to stay with their hospitals. Design/methodology/approach – Quantitative data were collected from randomly selected older registered nurses (N=660) engaged in direct patient care in hospitals in Canada. Structural equation modelling was used to test the hypothesized model. Findings – The relationship between perceptions of HR practices (performance evaluation, recognition/respect) and intentions to stay was mediated by the perceived fairness with which nurse managers managed these HR practices and nurse manager satisfaction. When nurse managers were perceived to administer the HR practices fairly (high perceived procedural justice), older nurses were more satisfied with their nurse manager and, in turn, more likely to intend to stay. Research limitations/implications – The cross-sectional research design does not allow determination of causality. Practical implications – It is important that nurse managers receive training to increase their awareness of the needs of older nurses and that nurse managers be educated on how to manage HR practices relevant to older nurses in a fair manner. Equally important is that hospital administrators and HR managers recognize the importance of providing such HR practices and supporting nurse managers in managing these practices. Originality/value – The findings increase the understanding of how HR practices tailored to older nurses are related to the intentions of these nurses to remain with their hospital, and especially the crucial role that first-line nurse managers play in this process.

Nurses have assumed management positions in many health institutions. To properly accomplish the demands of this role, it is important that they be competent in both management and leadership. For appropriate performance, knowledge of management and supervision styles is a priority. Therefore, the goal of this investigation is to identify the nurse manager's knowledge regarding management and leadership. A structured questionnaire containing twenty-seven questions was applied to twelve Brazilian nurse managers of primary care center called "Family Basic Health Units". Data analysis suggested that the nurse manager lower knowledge in management and leadership is related to visionary leadership, management and leadership conceptual differences, leader's behavior, and situational leadership. And, nurse manager greater knowledge is related to power; team work, and coherence between values and attitudes.

Introduction: Critical patients have different needs compared to patients in other general inpatient wards, so they need extra treatments from a nurse. Nurse caring behavior gived through an approach in which nurses work by improving their concern to patients. However, it is influenced by caring efficacy in which a nurse is confident to express his or her caring to patients. The aims of this study were to identify the correlation between caring efficacy with nurse caring behavior in taking care of critical patients at dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Serang Hospital in Banten ProvinceMethods: This is a quantitative study with employed a correlation study. The sample size comprised 66 Nurses of ER, ICU and HCU with total sampling technique. The instruments used are CES (Caring Efficacy Scale) to measure caring efficacy and CBA (Caring Behavior Assessment) to measure nurse caring behavior. Descriptive analysis using mean, standard deviation, percentage and frequency distribution. Meanwhile, inferential analysis used Pearson's Correlation.Results: The univariate analysis results showed the mean ± DS score of caring behavior is 87.6 ± 10.12. Meanwhile, the mean ± DS score of caring efficacy is 86.23 ± 8.74. Further, inferential analysis revealed a significant (p < 0.000) and moderate correlations (r = 0.448) between caring efficacy and nurse caring behavior.Conclusion: Higher of nurse's caring efficacy were followed by higher of nurse's caring behavior in taking care of critical patients. Findings can be used by academic as a prospective nurse and health professionals, to implement a concept of caring efficacy  to improve caring behavior. Further research can be a focus on the nursing interventions based on nurses caring behavior to strengthen and increase in taking care of critical patients.

Nurse caring behaviors and patient satisfaction: The impact of patients experience at Bukit Kemuning inpatient public health centreBackground: The results of the pre-survey conducted on January - 2019 based on the medical records of the Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Health Center in North Lampung recorded in 2018 had of 279 inpatients. Base on evaluation in Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Health Center, the Minimum Service Standards (MSS) achievement scored of 67.29% describes the service quality is still suboptimal.Purpose: Knowing relationship between nurses' caring behavior towards patient satisfaction in Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Health Centre North Lampung RegencyMethod: A quantitative cross-sectional approach, the population of all outpatient who had experienced hospitalization at Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Health Center, with a sample of 282 respondent. The variables of this study were nurse caring behavior and patient satisfaction. The research conducted at the Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Health Center UPT North Lampung Regency. data collection using a questionnaire. Hasil pra survey yang dilakukan tanggal 5 – 9 Januari 2019  berdasarkan data rekam medis Puskesmas Rawat Inap Bukit Kemuning  Kabupaten Lampung Utara  tercatat tahun 2018 jumlah pasien yang melakukan kunjungan rawat jalan sebesar 11.169 orang dan rawat inap sebanyak 279 orang. Puskesmas Rawat Inap Bukit Kemuning  Kabupaten Lampung Utara  Standar SPM > 90 % dengan hasil capaian hanya 67, 29% sehingga dapat menggambarkan mutu pelayanan masih belum optimal.Tujuan : Diketahui  hubungan perilaku caring perawat terhadap kepuasan pasien di UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Bukit Kemuning  Kabupaten Lampung Utara  tahun 2019Metode: Penelitian kuantitatif pendekatan Cross Sectional, populasi seluruh pengunjung Puskesmas, dengan sampel berjumlah 282 orang Objek dalam penelitian ini adalah perilaku caring perawat dan kepuasan pasien. Penelitian dilakukan di UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Bukit Kemuning  Kabupaten Lampung Utara. bulan Januari – Juni  2019 . pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner. Analisis data secara univariat dan bivariat (chi square).Hasil: Diketahui pernyataan responden tentang perawat yang menunjukkan perilaku caring kategori buruk, sebesar 162 (57,4%) responden, kepuasan keluarga pasien kurang puas, sebesar 140 (49,4%) responden, Ada  hubungan antara perilaku caring perawat terhadap tingkat kepuasan keluarga pasien di UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Bukit Kemuning  Kabupaten Lampung Utara  tahun 2019 (p-value=0,000,0,05, OR=4,659)Simpulan: Ada  hubungan antara perilaku caring perawat terhadap tingkat kepuasan keluarga pasien di UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Bukit Kemuning  Kabupaten Lampung Utara  tahun 2019, bagi pihak manajemen Puskesmas sebagai bahan pertimbangan untuk mengadakan pelatihan perilaku caring perawat guna meningkatkan pelayanan pasien.

Hope is a crucial issue in patients with cancer. Hope can be increased by providing social support. Social support can be obtained from the nurses caring behavior. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between nurses caring behavior and recovery hope level of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy program at Baladhika Husada Hospital in Jember. A cross-sectional study was conducted to 112 respondents using the Caring Behavior Inventory (CBI-24) questionnaire and Scale of Hope. The data were analyzed applying the Kendall Tau B (τ) correlation. The results showed that there was a relationship between nurses caring behavior with the level of recovery expectancy of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy programs at Baladhika Husada Hospital in Jember (p-value <0.001; τ = 0.375). Nurse caring behavior increases patient comfort and makes patients more enthusiastic about undergoing therapy. Patients feel valued and get more information from nurses. Therefore, the patient's recovery hopes can increase. This study concludes that nurses caring behavior can increase the expectation of recovery of cancer patients. Abstrak Harapan adalah hal krusial pada pasien kanker. Harapan dapat ditingkatkan dengan pemberian dukungan sosial yang bisa didapat dari perilaku caring perawat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis hubungan perilaku caring perawat dengan tingkat harapan sembuh pasien kanker yang menjalani program kemoterapi di Rumah Sakit Baladhika Husada Jember. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode cross sectional dan 112 responden didapatkan dengan teknik sampel purposive samping. Data didapatkan melalui kuesioner CBI-24 dan kuesioner skala harapan. Analisis pada penelitian ini menggunakan uji korelasi Kendall Tau B (τ). Hasil menunjukkan terdapat hubungan antara perilaku caring perawat dengan tingkat harapan sembuh pasien kanker yang menjalani program kemoterapi di Rumah Sakit Baladhika Husada Jember (p value < 0,001; τ = 0,375). Perilaku caring perawat dapat meningkatkan kenyamanan pasien dan membuat pasien lebih semangat menjalankan terapi yang dijalani. Pasien merasa dinilai dan mendapatkan informasi lebih dari perawat. Maka dari itu, harapan sembuh pasien dapat meningkat. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perilaku caring perawat dapat meningkatkan harapan sembuh pasien kanker.

The caring role of nurses is not impervious to obstacles that might be present in today’s health care systems. Such obstacles might occur when nurses do not feel cared for by their nurse managers. Through the “Relational Caring Inquiry”, 16 staff nurses were asked to answer two questions pertaining to their personal experiences with a nurse manager and how these experiences influenced their caring practice. Concerning managerial practices, the staff nurses’ stories revealed the presence of a “Dialectic of Power”, involving two contradictory forces: subjugation and empowerment. These findings can assist managers to better create a caring environment within the institution and help sensitize nurses to patients’ suffering.

Minimal cross-national comparisons of nurse caring behaviors are available. A descriptive correlational study was conducted to describe and compare caring behaviors between nurses in Ireland (n = 74) and the United States (US) (n = 74). Significant differences were found between the samples on both educational background and years of nursing experience. US nurses had higher mean caring behavior scores compared to Irish nurses. However, when controlling for the two background variables, the difference was not statistically significant. This study is the first to compare nurses’ caring behaviors in these two countries. The findings have research, education, and practice implications.

This descriptive study identified the profile and competencies of nurse managers of accredited hospitals from the their perspective and that of their hierarchical superiors. It was conducted in 14 hospitals certified by the National Organization of Accreditation and the Joint Commission International in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. Data were collected through two questionnaires that were applied to 24 professionals. The nurse managers' profiles showed that 69.2% came from private colleges, all with more than 10 years experience since graduation and 92.3% had attended a post-degree program in health management. The nurse managers' most frequent competencies according to their superiors were: leadership, focus on patients, and teamwork. The conclusion is that the profile and competencies of most of the nurse managers were compatible with the expectations of their superiors, who collaborate in the selection of candidates for the nurse manager position and evaluate their professional performance.

<p><b>Clinical nurse managers play a vital role in the healthcare system. They are responsible for the day to day running of departments and ensuring that patients are safely cared for. The leadership behaviour and practices of a clinical nurse manager are fundamental for establishing and maintaining positive workplace culture, which is important for nurse performance and quality patient outcomes. This research sought to understand how clinical nurse managers build positive culture in their workplace and to identify leadership attributes and actions that they perceive to be important for generating positive workplace culture. Furthermore, it aimed to identify the challenges of creating positive workplace culture in Aotearoa New Zealand.</b></p> <p>A qualitative descriptive design was used to capture rich in-depth understanding and insight into clinical nurse manager experiences of positive workplace culture from their position in nursing leadership. Ten clinical nurse managers from one secondary hospital within the North Island of Aotearoa participated in semi structured face-to-face interviews. Data was transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis with assistance of NVIVO 12 coding software to manage the process of analysing transcripts. </p> <p>Findings demonstrated that clinical nurse managers deliberately engage in strategies to build positive workplace culture and the more prepared they were for their role, the better equipped they were to do so. Three themes were identified: role preparation, achieving perspective, and intentionality. The theme of role preparation describes the actions clinical nurse managers use to cope with realities of the job, build good teams, and manage uncertainty. The second theme achieving perspective represents the internal processes clinical nurse managers use to understand situations and make decisions. The final theme intentionality describes the leadership strategies clinical nurse managers use to enhance collaborative behaviour and positive relationships within the team. </p> <p>To prepare and develop nurses into leadership positions, organisations and executive leadership teams must actively invest in the preparation of this workforce. Establishing educational prerequisites and having structured orientation and mentoring programmes will build a clinical nurse manager workforce that is equipped to foster positive workplace culture in Aotearoa. Furthermore, conducting performance appraisals habitually will provide a foundation for training and development that is needed to keep nurses motivated and engaged in their workplace.</p>
