The article studies various representations of the concept “Guˮ (“Heartˮ) in Circassian culture. The authors offer a definition of the concept as one of the most significant components of the specific development of the world in traditional societies. For a more detailed consideration of the issue, a historiographical review of those theories that have had a significant impact on the cultural understanding of axiological, moral, and psychological aspects of various conceptual spheres is carried out. This work presents the results of an ethnographic study of the problem, which allows us to make a conclusion that the concept of “Guˮ is universal in the ethnocultural picture of the world.

This study uses news photographs and interviews with journalists to explore how Australia’s unprecedented 2019–2020 bushfire season was depicted for Australian and non-Australian audiences in order to extend transnational understanding of iconicity’s tenets and how news values vary across contexts. It does so first by examining the Sydney Morning Herald’s coverage over 3 months and then by contrasting this with international coverage that began in early 2020 once the issue spilled onto the world stage. Australia’s coverage focused intensely on human actors involved in the disaster while the vast numbers of affected animals were virtually absent. In contrast, international media visually depicted the disaster as an environmental and ecological issue with global consequences. The results suggest a need for a definition of iconicity that is inclusive to non-human actors and to inanimate forces that are personified. It also extends our cross-cultural understanding of the visual expression of news values.

The article uses a lot of factual material to reveal the role of ethnographisms associated with cooking during the most significant moments of human life: birth, wedding, burial. The connection of symbolism with ritual is revealed. The purpose of the article is based on the specifics of the work caused by the need for a linguoculturological description of the vocabulary of nutrition, the definition of extralinguistic factors (customs, traditions and religious beliefs) in the formation, development and functioning, as well as the disclosure of the symbolic essence of this LSH.The relevance of the article is determined by the need for linguistic and cultural understanding of the food vocabulary, which is widely reflected in paremia, concepts, phraseological units, and customs as the most stable lexical and semantic categories of the Turkic languages (more than 2 000 lexical and phraseological units). The material of the study was the vocabulary of nutrition of the Turkic languages. The main methods used in the work are descriptive, comparative, and interpretive. The reception and serving of food among the Turkic peoples and their reflection in customs and traditions are symbolic relations between people connected by social, gender, and age relations. For example, the symbolism of food associated with the birth of a child has its roots in the distant past of the Turkic people and means a sacrifice for the successful birth of a woman. These rituals include: preparing special meals to speed childbirth: Garissa (lit. Competition with the cauldron, where food is cooked), preparing special dishes: sut burysh, IIT mun, burial of the bones of a 「am slaughtered for a woman in labor, gnawing the neck vertebrae of a ram without a knife, burning meat, etc. These traditions are a symbol of introducing the baby to a new life denoting the appearance of a new person. As a result of the analysis of this thematic group, it was revealed that traditional household rituals are the most stable basis of the ethnic spiritual culture of the Turkic peoples, many symbolic actions related to food are common, which once again confirms the hypothesis of genetic kinship of these peoples. The concept of linguoculturological research of customs and traditions as one of the current trends in linguistics opens up new aspects of the relationship and connection of language and spiritual culture, language and folk mentality, language and folk art. In the conceptual picture of the world and the national - cultural context, the question of the place and role of the studied LSH is very significant. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the linguistic and cultural understanding of one of the traditionally established and most stable lexical and semantic categories of the Turkic languages - the vocabulary of nutrition. Such studies in modern linguistics have not been sofer conducted. Keywords: food vocabulary, symbols, ritual, linguoculturology, ethnographism, customs, traditions, conceptual picture of the world

The article is devoted to the study of the reasons for volunteering among students of a medical university during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the definition of some of its psychological aspects. This topic is currently very relevant, since now a pandemic of a new coronavirus infection continues in the world. Given the widespread shortage of medical personnel, volunteer assistance is becoming an extremely important aspect in the comprehensive process of providing comprehensive care to covid patients. Medical students in their volunteering activities most often find their «place» either in hospitals or in call centers. The objects of a 2-stage study, conducted in May – June 2020 and in December – January 2021, were 150 medical students, divided by 50 people into 3 groups, depending on the course of students (1–2, 3–4, 5–6). The main reasons that prompted medical students to volunteer were studied, as well as their changes in dynamics, from the «first wave» to the «second wave» of Covid-19. It was found that most of the future doctors were eager to help people and participate in the general fight against the new coronavirus infection. The next part of the study was to determine, using the Spielberg method, the levels of anxiety among students during the «first and second» waves. A certain dynamics of various levels of anxiety was revealed, which may indicate a kind of psychological adaptation. This work is of certain interest, both for practicing psychologists and for teachers of higher education.

The article presents the results of the analysis of geek-culture as a youth sociocultural phenomenon of contemporary Russian society. The author paid special attention to the ideas of Alvin Toffler, who revealed the trend of fragmentation of society into mini-cultures that eventually turn into subcultures. New modern subcultural associations do not try to isolate themselves from the universal cultural space. They seek to integrate into the world cultural space. The result is the formation of super-subcultures. One of such supersubcultures is the geek-culture, which is actively developing both in Western and Russian societies. The empirical base of the study was the results of B. Sattles’ research, based on data of the social network “Twitter”. The author paid attention to social and journalistic interpretation of this phenomenon. The peculiarity of the work is the author’s definition of geek-culture and specification of its key constituent elements, based on empirical research.

Each geotourist venture should be related to the creation of a tourist product from the geological or post‑mining object. This preparation to tourist traffic through the adaptation or making the object available to visitors is the primary objective which implies the series of different tasks. These tasks of geotourism, in post‑mining objects and sites – the special type of cultural heritage resources, are presented in the paper.Execution of each task was discussed on the basis of different examples of development of post-exploitation sites all over the world, e.g. in Spain, Poland, Germany, England, and Australia. The form and scope of the geotourist tasks execution formed the base for the authors for the assessment of selected development practices, as well as the definition of application guidelines introduced in this paper. All tasks facing geotourism based on former industrial and mining facilities should form a coherent whole, covering the economic (profitability), ecological (neutrality) and socio‑cultural aspect (social justice), and thus fit in the concept of sustainable development in tourism. These pillars should be treated equally, because only their reasonable combination has the chance to result in the creation and development of sustainable tourism.
