Introduction. Intensive exploration and processing of mineral raw materials in the Trans-Baikal territory has caused the accumulation of considerable amount of industrial mining waste with high content of chemical elements of different classes of hazard. Currently 33 tailings storage facilities (TSF) accumulating approximately 3 milliard tons of different industrial waste are located in the territory of the region. The aim of the research is the hygienic assessment of soil contamination in the residential areas adjacent to TSFs. Material and methods. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry method was used for the determination of heavy metals. The study presents the results of analyses of 444 samples of gross content of lead, zinc, copper, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium in the soil of Khapcheranga, Sherlovaya Gora, Kadaya, Vershino-Darasunsky, and Vershino-Shakhtaminsky mining villages throughout the duration of 2012 - 2015. Results. During the period of the study the total value of soil contamination with Zc calculated by the median concentrations in Khapcheranga Village amounted to 4.7 6.9, in Vershino-Shakhtaminaky - to 6.7 8.8, which corresponds to the «allowable» level of the contamination. Zc calculation by maximum concentrations has shown the soil to be referred to the category from “moderately dangerous” to “extremely dangerous”; this value in Khapcheranga Village amounted to 48.7 - 235.3, in Vershino-Shakhtaminsky Village - to 23.76 - 164.8. Discussion. In the residential areas the allowable degree of soil contamination was determined to be predominantly observed; Khapcheranga and Vershino-Shakhtaminsky villages are the exceptions. The results of the assessment give the evidence of tge increased lead, cadmium and arsenic content throughout the entire area of the villages, while the highest levels of accumulated toxic substances are registered in the areas located near the TSF Conclusion. Thus, several zones of natural and anthropogenous contamination with increased concentrations of heavy metals and arsenic have been formed in the Trans-Baikal Territory. This dictates the need to study the influence of geochemical anomalies on the health of population.

The relevance of the research is the need to recultivate the waste from the enrichment of gold-bearing ores that lie in the immediate vicinity of the residential areas of Baley city, which have a negative impact on the environmental situation in it, as well as to develop a technological approach to the extraction of gold and silver. The purpose of the study is to study the material composition and develop a technology for extracting precious metals. The object of the study is the stale tailings of the ZIF-1 plant “Baleizoloto”. The subject of the study is mineral composition of stale tailings, content of useful components and their extraction technology, the method and methodology presented by mineralogical and chemical analyses of enrichment tailings. Results. The analysis of the tailings dumps’ state of the gold recovery factories of the Baleizoloto plant was carried out. The contents of gold and other chemical elements, among which arsenic, zinc, copper, antimony, and lead predominate, were determined. The gold content prevails in the stale tailings of the ZIF-1 factory, which processed the ores of the Baley deposit, and is in the range of 1.09-1.37 g / t, on average – 1.17 g/t. This determines the prospects for their primary processing. The gold in the clay-sand fraction of the stale tailings is mainly found in thin accretions with quartz, carbonates, pyrite, arsenopyrite, sulfosols, and tellurides. The field of application is processing of technogenic raw materials. Conclusions. It was determined that the sizes of gold inclusions are in the range of 0.7-0.03 mm, the gold penetration varies from 63 to 91.15, and on average is 82.13; the main impurity in gold is silver with a content of 8.85-37%; the average silver content in the tailings of the ZIF-1 factory is 1.85 g/t; the recommended technological scheme for processing stale tailings of ZIF-1 of the Baleizoloto plant has been developed, including the following operations: photoelectron-activation preparation, pelletizing with active solution, heap leaching, two-stage sorption with bubbling with ozone

The intensive industrial and technological development results in an appearance of a large amount of pollutants and toxic substances in the biosphere including large quantities of heavy metals. Some heavy metals are biogenic (Cu, Zn, Se etc.) and essential for proper maintaining of the metabolism in the human body. The main dangers to the human health are associated with the exposure to toxic elements such as Pb, Cd, Hg and As. Emission of Cd in the environment has increased during the 20th century mainly due to the recycling of the products containing this element. Cadmium accumulates in the human body with a biological half-life from 10 to 30 years and could cause very serious toxic effects. Cosmetic products are potentially a source of cadmium as well as some other heavy metals mostly due to the frequent and uncontrolled usage of cosmetics of poor аnd/or suspicious quality. The goal of the study is to determine the cadmium content in various cosmetic products (lipsticks, eyeshadows and blushes) present in the markets of the Republic of Srpska. The content of Cd was determined with atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) after the extraction with diluted HCl and aqua regia. The results of the research show that the cadmium concentrations in the investigated products are in accordance with the regulations of the Republic of Srpska (Regulations on safety of consumer goods; „Official Gazette RS“ – No.17/15).

The issues of preventing chemical exposure of the products of mining and processing of mineral raw materials on the population of mining facilities are considered. The results are presented concerning assessment of the correlation between the intensity of chemical pollution of the infrastructure of mining enterprises and the health of miners and the population living in the vicinity of a mining enterprise by means of clinical and biochemical examination of residents. It is established that the negative effect of mining production on the health of the population is a consequence of development technologies with the abandonment of untreated ores in the cavities, where physicochemical processes of natural leaching are developing. It is shown that the known methods of fixing dumps reduce only the parameters of dust pollution without effecting the contamination of the territory with metal solutions, and the forms of finding chemical elements in the tailings of processing do not prevent their inclusion in the biological cycles of living creatures, therefore, the radical measure to prevent progressive morbidity is only the extraction of metals from the tailings of ore processing during disposal. It is established that the speed and direction of exomorphodynamic processes are determined by the parameters of movement of the mobile fractions of metallic minerals. The activity of natural leaching processes is a consequence of the development technologies and can be reduced by using controlled leaching of metal-containing minerals. The formula for the dependence of the parameters of chemical pollution on the distance to the pollution focus is obtained. The assessment of social damage from the effect of the polluted environment on health of the population only by expanses on the treatment of the population and social security services during disability is incorrect, because the impact of metals is much larger. The use of tailings for processing waste from the mining cycle after bringing it to a safe state in terms of metal content allows to reduce morbidity of workers and the population of residential areas of mining production.


Abstract. Thermal power engineering takes one of the first places by the scale of the impact on the environment. Thermal power plant emissions are mainly deposited on the ground. Soil compounds, binding heavy metal ions (НM) for a long time, prevent their migration. The buffer capacity of the soil for metals depends on many factors: soil composition, acidity, complexity, oxidation–reduction,sorption–desorption, etc. Examination of the HM content in the soils is necessary for monitoring the environment, its protection from pollution. One of the largest pollutants in Kharkiv region is Zmiiv TPP. The goal of the work is to find out peculiarities of heavy metal contamination of the soil near the Zmiiv TTP and develop recommendations on improving the situation. In order to reach the goal, the following tasks have been solved: features of accumulation of various heavy metals in the soils have been specified, dependence between the soils pH and presence of certain chemical elements in them has been defined, dependance between the content of contamination and development of slow soluble compounds in the soil has been studied. Research methodology. The main principle of control for soil contamination is checking of concentration compliance with the established maximum permissible concentration (MPC) and approximate permissible concentration (APC). HM concentrations in the aqueous extract from the soil were determined by the atomic-emission spectral analysis, atomic absorption analysis and by the method of capillary electrophoresis. To determine the composition of the solid inorganic part of soils X-ray phase analysis was performed. Results of research. It is established that the most polluted areas are located within 10 km from TPP. The most disseminated pollutants in the area are Cu, Br, Co, V, Cr. The soils of the Siverskyi Donets Basin retain Cu, Zn and Pb ions to a large extent. Scientific novelty. Metals V, Cr are anionogenics, acid residues are formed in slightly alkaline soils and together with HM they form insoluble or slightly soluble compounds leading to their accumulation. Compounds SrCrO4, SrCr2O7, Sr(VO3)2, Zn2V2О7, Zn3(VО4)2, Zn(VО3)2 were found in the soils. Based on the determination of the coefficients of poly-elemental contamination, it is shown that maximum concentrations of HM are higher and variations of concentrations are wider except Pd, Zn and Cd in the soils with high humus, buffering and ability to form complexes with metal ions. The correlation relationships between pH, macro- and і microelements in various soils are determined. The highest correlation coefficient is between Al concentration and pH (0.6-0.9). Practical significance. Recommendations have been developed to reduce the level of soil contamination near Zmiiv TPP: reconstruction of the boiler unit, installation of an electrostatic precipitator to collect ash, using ash and slag waste in the production of Portland cement, liming soil for discrimination of HM.


The risk to human health due the consumption of vegetables is based on the characterization of harmful effects that can develop in the human body in case of the long-term eating of these products. At the same time, when people consume vegetables, it is possible to reduce their content of pollutants by heat treatment, for example, cooking. Therefore, it is relevant to compare the risk that occurs when eating raw and boiled vegetables. Purpose. Determination of environmental risk from the eating of vegetables (carrots and potatoes) with high concentrations of chemical elements and the ability to reduce them in case of boiling. Methods. Field, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, statistical methods were used. Results. On the basis of field-based research, the content of heavy metals - lead, cadmium, zinc, copper and iron and nitrates in cooked and raw carrots and potatoes - was determined on the farmland located in Shevchenkovo settlement of the Kharkiv region and laboratory studies. It turned out that virtually all metals concentrations do not have excessived MAC. To determine the level of influence of cooking on the fruit the relative content of heavy metals before and after cooking were researched. Based on the results of laboratory analysis, the coefficients of concentration of heavy metals in plant products were calculated and the environmental risk from the consumption of vegetables in food was calculated. When comparing all risk agents among themselves by hazard ratios, the predominance of nitrates and cadmium in all samples was detected. It should also be noted that there is a high risk of lead, copper and iron found in carrots. Comparison of test objects with the overall environmental risk for health from their use showed that the highest risk is crude carrots, and the lowest - potatoes are cooked. Heat treatment of carrots reduces the overall risk by only 25%, and potato - by 40%. Conclusions. It is established that after heat treatment almost all substances are partially derived from vegetables. Analysis of the changes occurring in potatoes and carrots after cooking indicates a reduction in the risk of the disease. The risk of the onset of diseases in virtually all organs is highest when carrots are consumed raw.

Abstract. Purpose. Heavy metals can have a negative effect on plants, animals and humans if their concentration exceeds certain limits. Therefore, it is important to establish the characteristics of the accumulation of heavy metals and to determine the elemental composition of aboveground (leaves) and underground (bulbs) organs in plant samples of 8 varieties of Narcissus hybridus hort. (Actaea, Arctic Gold, Cassata, Quail, Sir Winston Churchill, White Lady, Calgary, Pink Parasol) and Camassia cusickii S. Wats. in the urbanized environment of the city of Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan). Methods. The study of the elemental composition of the samples was carried out according to the method of quantitative chemical analysis “Determination of As, Pb, Cd, Sn, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn and Ni in laboratory samples of food products and food raw materials by the atomic absorption method with electrothermal atomization No. M-02-1009-08”. Scientific novelty. This work is the first to analyze the results of the content of individual elements in aboveground and underground organs in samples of cultivated floral and ornamental plants in the forest-steppe zone of the Bashkir Ural. Results. It was found that the content of nickel, copper, cadmium, lead, magnesium, iron, chromium in all the samples studied does not exceed the standards specified in the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation (SP RF). The arsenic content exceeds the standards specified in the SP RF by 3.4 times. Revealed a high intensity of biological absorption of copper. The peculiarity of the accumulation of individual elements by different taxa of the studied plants is noted. It has been established that the concentrations of As, Cu, Pl, Mn, Fe in the aboveground organs are higher than in the underground part of plants; the ratio of the content of Ni, Cr, Cd in aboveground and underground organs is the same. As a result of these studies, it was recommended to use the studied cultivars as a phytoremediator of arsenic.

Perairan Tanjung Emas merupakan salah satu kawasan pesisir yang dekat dengan aktivitas pelabuhan, industri, dan pemukiman penduduk. Tingginya aktivitas di kawasan Tanjung Emas diduga mengalirkan berbagai limbah yang dapat menimbulkan pencemaran, antara lainpencemaran oleh logam berat Pb dan Cu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan logam berat Pb dan Cu dalam air, sedimen, akar, dan buah mangrove Avicennia marinaserta untuk mengetahui tingkat akumulasi terhadap logam-logam tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dan penentuan lokasi penelitian dilakukan dengan metode purposive sampling. Kemudian logam berat dianalisis menggunakan AAS (Atomic Absorbtion Spectrophotometry). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kandungan logam berat Pb dan Cu di perairan Tanjung Emas Semarang menunjukkan pencemaran berat karena sudah melebihi batas ambang yang ditentukan yaitu masing-masing 0,01-0,06 mg/L (Pb) dan 0,004-0,14 mg/L (Cu). Kandungan Cu pada sedimen sebesar 1,236-3,212 mg/kg; Cu pada akar2,104-2,529 mg/kg; dan Cu pada buah A. marina 1,640-4,336 mg/kg.Hampir semua hasil ini lebih tinggi bila dibandingkan dengan kandungan Pb pada sedimen 0,251-0,507 mg/kg; Pb pada akar 0,732-1,625 mg/kg; dan Pb pada buah A. marina 0,114-0,345 mg/kg.BCF akar tertinggi ditemukan pada logam Pb yaitu 1,443-6,474 dan TF buah tertinggi ditemukan pada logam Cu yakni 0,674-1,714.Kata Kunci : Logam Berat Pb dan Cu, kolom air,sedimen, akar dan buah A.marina, BCF dan TF A. marina.Tanjung Emas waters were one of the coastal areas near that port activities, industries, and residential areas. The high activities in the area of Tanjung Emas allegedly flowed various wastes that can cause pollution, that is heavy metal Pb and Cu. The aim of this research was to determine the content of heavy metals Pb and Cu in the waters, sediment, roots, and fruits of the mangrove Avicennia marina as well as to determine the level of accumulation for these metals. The method that was used in this research was descriptive method and the determination of the location of research area used purposive sampling method. Then, heavy metals were analysedusing AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry). The results showed that the content of heavy metals Pb and Cu in the waters of Tanjung Emas Semarang showed heavy contamination because it exceeds thespecifiedthreshold is 0,01-0,06 mg/L (Pb) and 0,004-0,14 mg/L (Cu). The content of Cu in the sediments was 1,236-3,212 mg/kg; Cucontentat the root was 2,104-2,529 mg/kg; and Cu content in fruits of mangrove A. marina is 1,640-4,336 mg/kg. Almost all of these results was higher when compared with the content of Pb in sediments is 0,251-0,507 mg/kg; Pb at the root is 0,732-1,625 mg/kg; and Pb in A. marina fruits is 0,114-0,345 mg/kg. Background: Heavy metals are materials naturally occurring in nature and increase with a rise in human activity. Ex-mining areas and domestic waste from human settlements are sources of heavy metal contamination that enter and pollute water, which then accumulates in various organisms including the Caulerpa racemosa community. The accumulation of heavy metals in C. racemosa has a wide impact on the food chain in aquatic ecosystems and humans because this alga is a consumptive commodity.   Methods: Sampling of C. racemosa was carried out at seven sites on Bintan Island, Indonesia covering the eastern (Teluk Bakau, Beralas Pasir, Malang Rapat), northern (Berakit and Pengudang), western (Sakera), and southern parts (Tg. Siambang). Sampling was carried out during different monsoons, and heavy metals in water and sediment samples were measured to determine the heavy metal concentration. Heavy metals were analyzed by a spectrophotometric method using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry.   Results: The results showed that heavy metal concentrations fluctuate according to changes in the wind season, which carry currents and spread pollutants into the water. The concentration of metal in the water is also from anthropogenic activities. The heavy metal content of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) in C. racemosa is high in locations close to settlements. Meanwhile, in seawater samples, Fe and Zn metals have the highest concentrations compared to others.  Conclusions: Ex-bauxite mines are a source of Fe and Zn metal contamination in the environment, especially at Tg. Siambang. The levels of these heavy metals in the sediment are also high, as surface particle deposits accumulate at the bottom of the sediment. In general, the levels of heavy metals Cd, Pb, Cu, Fe, and Zn increase in the northern monsoon because the dynamics of the water transport greater heavy metal pollution.

This paper presents the results of quantitative determination of cadmium and lead in milk, the quality of which is regulated by the Federal Law "Technical Regulations for Milk and Dairy Products" No. 88-FL of 12.06.2008, which indicates permissible levels of toxic substances in milk and basic dairy products. Cadmium and lead, as well as their compounds, are highly toxic substances of cumulative action and pose a serious danger to human and animal health, which makes regular monitoring of the content of these heavy metals in food, in particular milk, relevant. Eight samples of milk sold in the territory of the Chuvash Republic were selected as subjects of the study. Among them are six samples from popular shops of Cheboksara (trademarks “Just”, “Fresh tomorrow”, “From Krasuli”) and two samples of raw cow milk of private farms of Yadrin district (village of Grand Sundyr and village of Persirlana). The analysis of the crude, pasteurized and ultra heat-treated milk of various producers on the content of lead and cadmium at their joint presence was carried out by methods of an inversion voltamperometriya (GOST P 51301-99) and atomic and absorbing spectrometry (MU 01-19/47-11-92 “Methodical instructions by atomic and absorbing methods of definition of toxic elements in foodstuff”) and also in accordance with GOST 26932-96 “By raw materials and foodstuff. Lead Determination Methods” and GOST 26933-86 “Raw Materials and Food Products. Cadmium definition methods”. The minimum lead and cadmium content is found in “Just” brand milk samples of 0.0052±0.0016 and 0.0011±0.0013 mg/kg, respectively. The maximum lead content is found in samples of raw milk of Yadrin district (0.0262±0.0017 mg/kg), and cadmium – in milk of the manufacturer of the trademark “Just” from factory “Semisovsky” (0.0049±0.0007 mg/kg). It has been found that all the samples studied contain a very small amount of heavy metals, which does not exceed the MPC value, which makes it possible to highly assess the quality of milk and dairy products sold in Chuvashia.
