The Youth Red Cross (Palang Merah Remaja (PMR)) is a forum for fostering and developing Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI)) youth members, PMR is one of PMI's strengths in carrying out humanitarian activities in the health sector. Various health problems that may occur anywhere and anytime that have fatal consequences such as choking can cause respiratory system disorders that can lead to death. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and management of PMR members in choking management. The method of this activity is to collaborate with the teacher of the Genteng 1 Public Middle School in informing the holding of Community Service about education and training in the management of choking, then follow-up to the principal of the Genteng 1 Public Middle School. Dissemination to students involved in training events. Training for students who are accompanied by PMR advisors about education and training in the management of choking. To support the success of this event, students were allowed to practice directly to the panthom and friends. The results of this activity showed an increase in knowledge about the management of 75% of choking  with high expertise and increased ability (practice) in the control of 85% of choking with top practice ability. With this training, it is expected that all schools, especially PMR, will be able to carry out optimal handling of choking.

Background: More than 50% of antibiotics used in hospitals are unnecessary or inappropriate. The antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) are coordinated efforts to promote the rational and effective use of antibiotics including appropriate selection, dosage, administration, and duration of therapy. When an ASP integrates infection control strategies, it is possible to decrease the transmission of multidrug-resistant pathogens. Methods: In 2018, 5 Colombian hospitals were selected to implement an ASP. Private and public hospitals from different cities were included in the study, ranging from 200 to 700 beds. Our team, consisting of an infectious disease and hospital epidemiologist, visited each hospital to establish the baseline of their ASP program, to define the ASP outcomes according to each hospital’s needs, and to set goals for ASP outcomes in the following 6–12 months. Follow-up was scheduled every 2 months through Skype video conference. The baseline diagnosis or preintervention evaluation was done using a tool adapted from previous reports (ie, international consensus and The Joint Commission international standards). Documentation related to ASPs, such as microbiological profiles, antimicrobial guidelines (AMG) and indicators for the adherence to them as well as antimicrobial resistance (AMR) prevention through protocols, were written and/or updated. Prevention and infection control requirements and protocols were also updated, and cleaning and antiseptic policies were created. Training in rational use of antibiotic, infection control and prevention, and cleaning and disinfection were carried out with the healthcare workers in each institution. Results: Before the intervention, the development of the ASP according to the tool was 27% (range, 5%–47%). The lowest institutional scores were the item related to ASP feedback and reports (11% on average), followed by education and training (14%), defined ASP responsibilities (23%), ASP function according to priorities (26%), and AMR surveillance (27%). After the intervention, the ASP development increased to 57% (range, 39%–81%) in the hospitals. The highest scores achieved were for education and training (90%), surveillance (75%), and the activities of the infection control committee (70%). The items that made the greatest contribution to ASP development were the individual antibiogram, including the bacteria resistance profile, and the development of the AMG based on the local epidemiology in each hospital. Conclusions: The implementation of an ASP should include training and education as well as defining outcomes according to the hospital’s needs. Once the strategy is implemented, follow-up is key to achieving the goals.Funding: NoneDisclosures: None

Langsa Baro Kota Langsa. Abstract Introduction: Education and training programs are critical to achieve personnel capacity building and professionalization in the rapidly growing humanitarian health sector. Thus, this study aimed to describe the status of humanitarian health education and training programs world-wide. Methods: A web-based analysis was conducted to identify the available humanitarian health programs. The following characteristics of the training programs were described: geographical location, target audience, prerequisite, qualification, curriculum, content, length, modality of delivery, teaching and assessment methods, and tuition fee. Results: The search identified a total number of 142 training programs, most of them available in few countries of the global North. Only seven percent of the identified programs qualified for a master’s degree in humanitarian health. Public health was the most identified content (47.2%). Approximately one-half of the training programs (50.7%) were delivered face-to-face. Theoretical knowledge was the most common method used for teaching and assessment. The duration of the training and tuition fees were different for different programs and qualifications, while target audience, prerequisite, and curriculum design were often vaguely described or missing. Conclusions: The study shows a global inequality in access to humanitarian health training programs due to financial and geographical constraints. The study also reveals gaps in program contents, as well as teaching and assessment methods, all issues that could be addressed by developing cost-effective e-learning and online simulation programs. Lastly, the data from this study provide a learning tool that can be used by humanitarian health educators and training centers to further define and standardize the requirements and competencies of humanitarian health professionals.

In Western Australia (WA), similar to practices elsewhere, there has been a strong focus on the need for schools to reconsider their practices to increase opportunities for more equitable and inclusive access for all children. Subsequent to a major review of service provision for students with disabilities in WA (Department of Education and Training, 2004), a Building Inclusive Schools initiative is being implemented in all Government schools (Department of Education and Training, 2003). This paper explores how, following a trial inclusive program, one middle school is utilizing this initiative to further its own inclusive practices. To support this review a collaborative partnership has been established between the school and a university to provide an avenue for deliberate reflection on the processes employed to develop the school’s vision of Education For All by Incorporating Diversity. A model on sustaining education for all is identified and the impact of government directives is investigated. Consideration is given to the likely impact on the school of systemic procedures being developed to support the progress of the Building Inclusive Schools initiative.
