The exiled in Spanish and Polish transition. Crematorio by Rafael Chirbes and Niskie Łąki by Piotr SiemionThe aim of the article is to present a picture of the exiled in a society undergoing processes of democratic transformation on the basis of Crematorio 2009, a novel by Rafael Chirbes, and Niskie Łąki by Piotr Siemion 2000. The author employs a research method from comparative literature and refers to the category of supranationality “supranacionalidad” proposed by Claudio Guillén, a Spanish comparativist. An analysis of the texts indicates that the presence of the exiled, notwithstanding fundamental differences concerning e.g. the evaluation of capitalism, serves to extract and highlight the end of great narrations which accompanies transformation processes: in the Spanish novel it is the end of ideology communism and history F. Fukuyama whereas Niskie Łąki refers to the end of the romantic paradigm M. Janion.

This study aims at showing the comparison and similarities of Minangkabau matrilineal family presented in two ethnic novels entitled Negeri Perempuan by Wisran Hadi and Aku Tidak Membeli Cintamu by Desni Intan Suri. To discuss the portrait of Minangkabau matrilineal family in these two novels, the researcher used comparative literature theory to frame the study. The present study specifically used the comparative literature method as its research method. Based on the research findings, it was found that there are two types of matrilineal family in Minangkabau presented in both novels. The first type is the family which follows the matriarchal-matrilineal system. This type believes that the women (mother) side takes the main power in their family. The second type is the family which follows the patriarchal-matrilineal system. This system believes that the main power is on the men’s side. The main power in the second system is not actually on the father’s side (husband); however the main power is on the uncle’s side (the mother’s brother).

Abstract Objective: This paper aims to summarize and discuss key findings in the literature around the main responses used by incumbents in order to anticipate or counter-attack disruptive up-starters and hence to partially or totally tackle the innovator’s dilemma. Methodology: The research method is based on critical and comparative literature review. Hence, by narrowing down the scope of studies papers using a multi-stage selection process, this paper discusses other scholars’ research and findings on the topic of disruption innovation and the directions well-established firms choose to avoid being disrupted. Findings: This paper enumerated some main strategies invoked in a finely selected literature advised for incumbents wiling to escape disruptive threats. It suggests that these strategies share a common exploitation/exploration basis but are implemented in distinct ways and have different impacts across the organization. It also discovered many missing parts in the literature that stand for interesting research opportunities. Value added: This literature review contributes to the current body of knowledge by providing an overview of the main incumbents’ responses to disruptive threats. It also identifies some current gaps in research and provides recommendations on how to close them. Recommendations: This paper builds on hitherto literature in order to present state-of-the art approaches to disrupt or resist disruption. It categorizes these responses into internal and external, and proactive vs. reactive. While these strategies are studied in different contexts and are labeled distinctly, this study proposes a common frame displaying a similar underlying purpose to all of them. It also provides some updated research avenues for scholars to inspect.

Corporate actors, like parties and associations, are the organized expression of collective interests in a society. By integrating interests (aggregation) and mediating them (articulation), they figure as a key element of a living democracy. Corporate actors can be distinguished in terms of the territorial and functional dimensions of their representative function. As free societal associations, independent of the state, they operate ideally between citizens and the state. The development of a voluntarily organized intermediary zone between citizens and the state is of vital importance for democratic transformation and consolidation. However, the emergence of voluntarily organized collective actors as a requisite for ‘representative consolidation’ is highly contingent. Whether associations and interest groups form in a political system depends to a high degree on institutional structures. In transformation processes, clear governmental control and sanctioning capacities are conducive to the development of corporate actors.
