Abstract: Malnutrition because of protein deficiency on diet caused antioxidant deficiency state and oxidative stress on brain that marked by increased MDA level. The aim of this study was to analyze the antioxidant effects of saluang (Rasbora spp.) on brain MDA level in malnourished rats. This was an experimental study with a Posttest Only with Control Group Design, consisted of malnutrition control group (M), group that feed with saluang (S), group that given standard feeding (P), and group that given standard feeding added with DHA supplement (D). Brain MDA level measured with TBARS method in spectrophotometer. Mean brain MDA level for each group in a row is M = 210,750 μΜ, S = 194,125 μΜ, P = 202,625 μΜ, and D = 200,875 μΜ. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann Whitney test showed that there were significant differences between the group that feed with saluang and the other groups (p<0.05). Based on this research, concluded that the administration of saluang (Rasbora spp.) significantly affects the decrease of brain MDA level in malnourished rats. Keywords: antioxidant, saluang fish, MDA, malnutrition Abstrak: Malnutrisi karena defisiensi protein akan menimbulkan keadaan kekurangan antioksidan dan menimbulkan stres oksidatif pada otak yang ditandai dengan peningkatan kadar MDA. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis efek antioksidan ikan saluang terhadap kadar MDA otak tikus putih malnutrisi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan Posttest Only with Control Group Design, terdiri dari kelompok kontrol malnutrisi (M), kelompok pemberian pakan saluang (S), kelompok pemberian pakan standar (P), dan kelompok pemberian pakan standar yang ditambah suplemen DHA (D). Kadar MDA otak diukur dengan menggunakan metode TBARS secara spektrofotometer. Rerata kadar MDA otak masing-masing kelompok perlakuan berturut-turut adalah M = 210,750 μΜ, S = 194,125 μΜ, P = 202,625 μΜ, dan D = 200,875 μΜ. Uji Kruskal-Wallis dan uji Mann Whitney menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara kelompok yang diberi pakan saluang dengan kelompok lainnya (p<0,05). Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa pemberian ikan saluang (Rasbora spp.) berpengaruh secara bermakna terhadap penurunan kadar MDA otak tikus putih malnutrisi. Kata-kata kunci: antioksidan, ikan saluang, MDA, malnutrisi

Abstract: Effect of giving saluang fish (rasbora spp.) on bone calcium of malnutried rat’s (rattus norvegicus). Malnutrition due to lack of calcium is vital especially in young age because it can damage body’s function. Calcium is source of bone’s development and play some role in motoric function. This research aims on analyzing the difference of calcium level in malnutrition rats and rats feeded with saluang fish. This is an experimental study with posttest only with control group design, consist of malnutrition (M) group, standard feeding (P) group, and saluang (S) group. The bone’s calcium level is measured using titrimetry method. The average result of bone’s calcium level are M=1,00 mg/gram, P=1,68 mg/gram, and S=1,23 mg/gram respectively. Kruskal-Wallis test shows a significant result (p<0,05). Mann-Whitney test shows the standard feeding group have the highest calcium level among other groups. This research concludes that giving saluang fish (Rasbora spp.) for 4 weeks can not repair the bone’s calcium level due to malnutrition if compared to standard feeding.Keywords : saluang fish, bone’s calcium level, malnutrition. Abstrak: Efek pemberian ikan saluang (rasbora spp.) terhadap kadar kalsium tulang tikus putih (rattus norvegicus) malnutrisi. Malnutrisi akibat kurangnya asupan kalsium yang sangat dibutuhkan terutama usia dini dapat mengganggu berbagai fungsi tubuh. Fungsi kalsium bagi tubuh adalah sebagai nutrisi untuk pertumbuhan tulang, serta menunjang perkembangan fungsi motorik agar lebih optimal dan berkembang dengan baik. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis perbedaan kadar kalsium tulang tikus putih malnutrisi yang diberi ikan saluang dan yang tidak diberi ikan saluang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan posttest-only with control group design, terdiri dari kelompok malnutrisi (M), kelompok pemberian ikan saluang (S), kelompok pemberian pakan standar (P) yang diukur dengan menggunakan metode titrimetri. Rerata kadar kalsium tulang masing-masing kelompok adalah 1,00 mg/gram tulang, 1,23 mg/gram tulang, dan 1,68 mg/gram tulang. Uji Kruskal-Wallis menunjukkan perbedan signifikan (p<0,05). Uji Mann Withney menunjukkan pada kelompok pakan standar memiliki kadar kalsium tulang yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan saat malnutrisi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa pemberian ikan saluang (Rasbora spp.) selama 4 minggu tidak berpengaruh secara bermakna terhadap peningkatan kadar kalsium tulang tikus putih malnutrisi dibandingkan dengan pakan standar. Kata-kata kunci: ikan saluang, kalsium tulang, malnutrisi

Objectives: This study aim to determine sequence of Mozart songs in the analyzing differences in dendritic density of cerebellum and cerebellum of new born Rattus novergicusMaterials and Methods: Experimental study randomized post test only control group design using Rattus norvegicus. Animal subjects were divided into three groups which were control group, and the treatment group that were given exposure to default sequence and reversed sequence of Mozart's music from gestation day 10. We used a comparison test in the analysis expression of BDNF.Results: In the cerebrum there was a significant difference in the Mozart group in reverse rather than with Mozart standard sequence and in standard Mozart group with no exposure group, with p=0.003 and p=0.000. In the cerebellum there was a significant difference in the group in reverse rather than with standard Mozart and in the standard Mozart group with the control group, with p=0.000 and p=0.000. However, there was no significant difference between control group and Mozart group upside down in cerebrum and cerebellum with p=0.109 and p=0.077Conclusion: The density of dendrites in the cerebrum and cerebellum of Rattus norvegicus newborn exposed to Mozart's music during pregnancy with standard Mozart sequence was higher than that in those receiving reverse order and without exposure. There were no significant differences between the density of the cerebrum and cerebellum dendrites between groups exposed to reversed sequence of Mozart composition and those without exposure.

Introduction: Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disease associated with lifestyle habits, age, sex, and inherited factors. High uric acid levels in a hyperuricemia state cause oxidative stress that can lead to increased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Beetroot powder has the potential as a functional food rich in antioxidants that can reduce MDA levels. This study aims to determine the beetroot powder effect on MDA level reduction in hyperuricemia rat models. Methods: This research was an experimental study with fifteen hyperuricemia rats were divided into three groups by randomized pre-post control group design. They were divided into three groups: P1 were healthy rats + standard feed (comfeed), P2 were hyperuricemia rat models + standard feed (comfeed) and P3 were hyperuricemia rat models + beetroot powder 3,12 g/kg/bw for 14 days. The MDA level examinations were conducted on day 0 and day 14. Results: After 14 days of treatment, the P3 group has a significant decrease in MDA levels compared to day 0 (p = 0.042). Groups P1 and P2 have a significant increase in MDA levels (p = 0.043). MDA levels between groups were significantly different (p = 0.002) on day 14. Conclusion: Giving beetroot powder for 14 days with dose 3,12 g/kg/bw for 14 days significantly reduced MDA levels in hyperuricemia.

  Abstract Live traps usually can only trap rats in the first day of trapping because the bait become not luring anymore after the first day of trapping. The purpose of this study was to determine the  differences in lured rats number between uncombined bait trapping and combined bait trapping. This is a quasi-experimental study with a post-test only non-equivalent control group design. Each house has 5 traps setup with 6 replications. One trap was set with combined bait types (rice, anchovy, tofu and roasted coconut) and four other traps set with separated uncombined bait types; (1) rice, (2) anchovy, (3) tofu, (4) roasted coconut. The instruments used were house screening sheets, traps and observation sheets. The data obtained were tested with the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that there were not significant differences in trapped rats number between combined bait and uncombined rice bait (p=0.748), between combined bait and uncombined anchovy bait (p=0.355), between combined bait and uncombined tofu bait (p=1.000), and also between combined bait and uncombined roasted coconut bait (p=0.734). Uncombined anchovies bait trapped rats most. Combined bait and uncombined anchovy bait were most consistent in trapping rats.

Demam merupakan proses yang dimiliki oleh tubuh dimana agen infeksi dan jaringan yang sudah rusak tidak bisa bertahan, ini disebabkan oleh aksi sekunder dari adanya suatu penyebab seperti agen infeksi, kerusakan jaringan, peradangan, keganasan dan penyakit lainnya. Kulit umbi bawang putih mempunyai kandungan flavonoid. Flavonoid dapat menghambat enzim siklooksigenase khususnya siklooksigenase-2 yang berperan dalam biosintesis prostaglandin sehingga proses terjadinya demam terhambat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek (ekstrak kulit umbi bawang putih) EKUBP sebagai antipiretik  pada tikus putih yang diinduksi vaksin DTP-HB-Hib 0,3 ml intramuscular dan pengaruh ekstrak etanolik kulit umbi bawang putih (Allium sativum L.) (EEKUBP) pada dosis terapi antipiretik terhadap kadar SGOT dan SGPT tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur wistar yang diinduksi vaksin DTP-HB-Hib. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental dengan rancangan penelitian  post test only control group design. Tikus putih sebanyak 25 ekor dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok. Kelompok I adalah kelompok kontrol negatif diberi CMC Na 1%, kelompok II kontrol positif diberi Parasetamol (PCT), kelompok III, IV, dan V diberi EKUBP dengan dosis 252 mg/200 gBB, 504 mg/200 gBB, dan 756 mg/200 gBB. Pengukuran suhu dilakukan sebelum pemberian vaksin DTP-Hb-Hib, 3 jam setelah pemberian vaksin DTP-Hb-Hib dan 30 menit sekali setelah perlakuan sampai menit 120. Pemberian dilakukan selama 7 hari dan pada hari ke-8 dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar SGOT dan SGPT metode enzymatic colorimetric kinetic. Efektivitas antipiretik dilihat melalui penurunan suhu setelah diberi EKUBP. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Annova di lanjutkan Post Hoc. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa EKUBP dosis 756 mg/200 gBB karena berbeda signifikan terhadap kelompok kontrol negatif (p0.05) dan tidak berbeda dengan parasetamol (p0.05). Analisa data kadar SGOT dan SGPT menggunakan Kruskal-wallis Test dan dilanjutkan Mann Whitney Test pada kadar SGOT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, kelompok I dengan kelompok Ekstrak tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada pemeriksaan kadar SGOT dan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pula terhadap kadar SGPT tikus putih jantan galur wistar yang diinduksi vaksin DTP-HB-Hib dengan pemberian EEKUBP 252mg/200gBB, 504mg/200gBB dan 756mg/200gBB. Kesimpulan yang dapat diambil adalah ekstrak kulit umbi bawang putih (EKUBP) dosis 756 mg/200 gBB terbukti memiliki aktivitas sebagai antipiretik, dan tidak berpengaruh meningkatkan kadar SGOT dan SGPT tikus putih jantan galur wistar yang diinduksi vaksin DTP-HB-Hib. Kata Kunci : ekstrak kulit umbi bawang putih, vaksin DTP-HB-Hib, antipiretik, SGPT dan SGOT

<p class="Default">Penyakit kardiovaskular merupakan penyebab kematian nomor satu di dunia. Gaya hidup masyarakat terutama dalam mengkonsumsi diet yang tidak sehat dapat meningkatkan kadar LDL yang dapat menyebabkan  penyakit kardiovaskular. Rumput laut merah (<em>Kappaphycus alvarezii</em>)<em> </em>yang banyak dibudidayakan di Indonesia mengandung flavonoid dan triterpenoid yang diduga dapat menurunkan kadar LDL. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak rumput laut merah (<em>Kappaphycus alvarezii</em>) <em> </em>terhadap kadar LDL pada tikus putih (<em>Rattus norvegicus</em>) jantan galur Wistar yang diberi diet tinggi lemak. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental murni laboratorik dengan rancangan penelitian <em>Post Test Control Group Design. </em>Sampel yang digunakan adalah 24 ekor tikus putih (<em>Rattus norvegicus</em>) jantan galur Wistar yang dibagi ke dalam tiga kelompok: kelompok yang diberi diet standar selama 28 hari (K1), kelompok yang diberi diet tinggi lemak selama 28 hari (K2), dan kelompok yang diberi diet tinggi lemak selama 28 hari dan pada hari ke-15 sampai hari ke-28 diberi ekstrak rumput laut merah (<em>Kappaphycus alvarezii</em>) dengan dosis 140mg/200grBB/hari (K3). Hasil analisis statistik <em>One Way Anova </em>menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan kadar LDL yang signifikan antara ketiga kelompok pada penelitian ini (p&lt;0,001). Kadar LDL pada K2 (=16,00±3,29) meningkat secara bermakna dibandingkan dengan K1 (=10,62±1,77). Sedangkan kadar LDL pada K3 (=6,88±2,42) menurun secara bermakna dibandingkan dengan K2. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak rumput laut merah (<em>Kappaphycus alvarezii</em>) berpengaruh terhadap kadar LDL darah pada tikus putih (<em>Rattus norvegicus</em>) jantan galur Wistar yang diberi diet tinggi lemak.</p><p><strong>Kata kunci</strong> : diet tinggi lemak, LDL, <em>Kappaphycus alvarezii</em></p>

AbstractBackground Ascaris lumbricoides eggs had very thick walls consisted of three layers, they were albuminoid layer, hyaline layer and vitelin layer. These layers were impermeable causing the Ascaris lumbricoides eggs resistant to less supportive environmental factors. Formalin 10% was a preservative that was often used to preserve faeces containing parasites such as protozoa and worm eggs. However, without heating, formalin 10% was not effective to preserve the Ascaris lumbricoides eggs because they would keep developing to become infective (containing larvae). Objective This study aims to prove whether there is an effect of adding 10% formalin which is heated at 60 C, 70 C and 80 C to the development of Ascaris lumbricoides eggs.Methods The design of this research was an experimental study with The Randomized Posttest Control Group Design. Result The Ascaris lumbricoides eggs were still growing into infective eggs in faeces although they were heated by formalin 10% at 60C, 70C and 80C. conclusion Based on the results of the study, there was no effect of heating temperature of formalin 10% on the development of Ascaris lumbricoides egg.Keywords: Formalin 10%, Ascaris lumbricoides, Heating, Soil Transmitted Helminth

Spending colostrum in post-cesarean section mothers is difficult in the first week postpartum. Efforts to overcome colostrum disruption can use non-pharmacological methods, namely breast care and endorphin massage. This study aims to determine the expenditure of colostrum by giving breast care and endorphin massage to post-cesarean mothers. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent design posttest control group design. This research was carried out in the midwifery room of the second floor of Grand Medistra Lubuk Pakam Hospital during the June-July 2019 period. There were 48 participants selected using purposive sampling, with 18 assigned in breast care, endorphin massage and combination of breast care and endorphin massage. The time of spending colostrum expenditure is assessed every day while the amount of colostrum expenditure is assessed after intervening. Analysis of the data used is one-way Annova. The results showed that the combination of breast care and endorphin massage was the most effective action in the time of spending colostrum and the amount of colostrum with a value of p = 0,000. The combination of breast care and endorphin massage could be applied as an alternative therapy post-cesarean mothers

Latar Belakang. Diet ketogenik merupakan diet populer untuk menurunkan berat badan dengan efek terhadap profil lipid masih inkonsisten. Tujuan Penelitian. Menganalisis perbedaan profil lipid tikus Rattus norvegicus pada pemberian pakan ketogenik dengan komposisi  lemak 80% (jenuh dan tidak jenuh), protein 15% dan karbohidrat 5%  selama 4 minggu. Metodologi. Desain penelitian true experimental dengan posttest only control group design. Tikus jantan dengan berat badan 125-150 g  dibagi secara random dalam 3 kelompok (P0, P1 dan P2) menerima diet 25-30 kkal/hari sesuai dengan kebutuhan energi harian tikus. P0 kelompok kontrol menerima pakan tikus biasa. P1 menerima diet ketogenik lemak jenuh dari margarin. P2 menerima diet ketogenik lemak tak jenuh dari minyak zaitun ekstra virgin. Kolesterol total, LDL, HDL dan trigliserida diperiksa pada minggu ke 2 dan 4. Data dianalisis dengan Uji t Independen dan Mann Whitney (p<0,05). Hasil. Pada P1 terdapat perbedaan kadar HDL yang signifikan (38 menjadi 22,40 mg/dL, p=0,005) namun perbedaan kadar kolesterol total, LDL dan kadar trigliserida tidak signifikan. Pada P2 didapatkan perbedaan yang signifikan pada kadar kolesterol total (93,20 menjadi 67,80 mg/dL, p=0,042), HDL (29,40 menjadi 22,20 mg/dL, p=0,004), LDL (25,60 menjadi 13,80 mg/dL, p=0,009), dan trigliserida (100,80 menjadi 51,40 mg/dL, p=0,016). Pada P0 tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan. Kesimpulan. Diet ketogenik dengan lemak tidak jenuh selama 4 minggu  menunjukkan efek yang menguntungkan dalam menurunkan kadar kolesterol total, LDL dan trigliserida pada tikus Rattus norvegicus. kata kunci: diet ketogenik, lemak jenuh, lemak tidak jenuh, kolesterol total, HDL, LDL, trigliserida

Abstract: Overtraining accelerates aging due to the excessive production of free radicals that can cause oxidative stress. Banana floret extract contains bioactive compounds with antioxidant capacity which can increase the body's defence to deal with the oxidative stress by increasing the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD). This study was aimed to prove that the banana (Musa x paradisiaca) floret extract could prevent the decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in overtraining-induced mice (Mus musculus) BALB/c liver. This was a true experimental study with the post-test only control group design. Subjects were 36 male mice (Mus musculus), BALB/c strain, 12 weeks old, weighing 20-22 g, which were divided into two groups with 18 mice each. The control group (P0) was treated with a placebo of 1 ml aquadest and overtrained for 14 days meanwhile the treatment group (P1) was treated with banana (Musa x paradisiaca) floret extract of 400 mg/kgBW/day and overtrained for 14 days. The results showed that after 14-day treatment, the mean SOD level in the liver tissue of the P0 group was 568.82±9.558 U/mg protein whereas in the P1 group was 588.37±10.629 U/mg protein (P < 0.01). The t-independent test showed a t value of -5.804 and a P value of 0.000 which indicated that after treatment, the levels of SOD in liver tissue of both groups were significantly different. Conclusion: Banana (Musa x paradisiaca) floret extract could prevent the decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in the liver tissue of overtraining-induced mice (Mus musculus) BALB/c.Keywords: banana floret, SOD, liver, overtrainingAbstrak: Aktivitas fisik berlebih mempercepat penuaan karena meningkatkan produksi radikal bebas yang dapat menyebabkan stres oksidatif.
