Introduction: Baby-led weaning is a new method of complementary food introduction for babies which enables babies to feed themselves. Over the last decade, the number of mothers adopting this method has been growing in many countries including Indonesia, though the exact number is unknown. The practice of self-feeding in babies using baby-led weaning in Indonesia also has not been identified.

Aim: To identify self-feeding practices among babies in both baby-led and traditional weaning.

Method: The study design was that of a descriptive survey given to a population of the mothers of six to 12-month-old babies who practiced either baby-led or traditional weaning in Indonesia. A consecutive sampling technique with time limit was used, and 316 respondents were recruited through an online survey.

Results: Almost half of the baby-led weaning group practiced self-feeding at least 90% of their meals, whereas 80% of the traditional weaning babies practiced spoon-feeding at least 90% of their meals. The self-feeding percentage in the rest of the baby-led weaning participants, however, ranged from 10 to 75%. The type of family, who is appointed to take care of the baby, mother’s occupation, and engagement in family dining may contribute to the variations in self-feeding percentages.

Conclusion: There was a difference in feeding practices between baby-led and traditionally weaned babies as assumed. The unique percentage of self-feeding among baby-led weaning in this country is useful as a reference for further research in this area.

Extant research supports a direct association between parent’s own emotional eating and their child’s emotional eating, and demonstrates correlations among parent emotional eating, feeding practices, and child emotional eating. However, the majority of this work focuses on the separate influences of these factors. The current study aims to add to the literature by simultaneously examining the indirect effects of three major parental feeding practices (i.e., emotion regulation, instrumental, and restrictive feeding) in the association between parent emotional eating and child emotional eating, and exploring how these indirect effects vary based on parent gender. Parents (86 fathers, 324 mothers) of an elementary school-age child (M = 8.35, SD = 2.29, range = 5–13) completed an online survey through Qualtrics Panels. Results suggested that restrictive feeding partially accounted for the association between parent and child emotional eating in the combined sample of mothers and fathers. Exploratory analyses revealed that the indirect effects of parental feeding practices in the association between parent emotional eating and child emotional eating varied based on parent gender. Among mothers, restrictive feeding was the only feeding practice that partially accounted for the association between maternal and child emotional eating, whereas all three feeding practices fully accounted for the association between father and child emotional eating. As the bulk of the literature on parent emotional eating and feeding has solely focused on mothers, these findings offer insight into how feeding practices may differentially function in the relation between parent emotional eating and child emotional eating for mothers versus fathers.

Abstract Background Internally displaced populations are susceptible to food deprivation. Specifically, children aged 6–23 are commonly vulnerable to poor complementary feeding. Proper complementary feeding is of paramount importance to the healthy growth and survival of a children. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the level of appropriate complementary feeding practices and associated factors among internally displaced children aged 6–23 months in northwest Ethiopia, 2020. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from June to July 2020 among 264 internally displaced mothers of children 6–23 months in northwest Ethiopia. A systematic random sampling technique was used to reach the study subjects and data were collected using a structured and pre-tested interviewer-administered questionnaire. Data were entered into the Epi Data version 4.1 and analyzed using SPSS version 23. Binary and multivariable analyses with a 95% confidence level were performed. In the final model, variables with P < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results The overall level of appropriate complementary feeding practice was 26.8%. Only 14% of the mothers provided a diversified diet for their 6–23 months children. Child aged 6–11 months (AOR = 0.11, 95%; CI: 0.04–0.27), 12–17 months (AOR = 0.35, 95%; 95% CI: 0.17–0.70) and not having harmful culture on complementary feeding (AOR = 2.04; 95% CI: 1.06–3.96) were independent predictors of appropriate complementary feeding practices. Conclusion The level of appropriate complementary feeding practice was found to be low, which would have negative implications on the health and nutritional status of infants and young children. Additional rations for breastfeeding mothers and children aged 6–23 months at refugee camps and nutritional counseling on child feeding practices are recommended.

This study investigated behavioural tendencies of Library and Information Science undergraduates towards CBE in Nigeria. Five objectives and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted using the online survey monkey app to collect data/responses from the library and information science (LIS) undergraduates. The population of the study comprised all LIS students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Ambrose Alli University, and Benson Idahosa University. The sampling technique used for the study was the total enumeration sampling technique (169) as the whole responses were used for the analysis using charts and tables for easy appreciation and comprehension. Also, two null hypotheses were tested at alpha level 0.05 using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). It was found out that: Most of the respondents studied prefer Computer-based examination to Paper-based examination and both concurrently, respondents have positive perception towards Computer Based Examinations (CBE), majority of the students in the three universities have quite a positive attitude towards Computer Based Examinations (CBE), majority of the respondents agreed to the problems facing the full adoption and use of CBE in their institutions, there is a statistically significant difference between the means of the different rates of perception of the undergraduates towards CBE in federal, state and private universities variable and others. Obviously, students of this generation wish to continue learning using modern technological devices. To this end, government and school administrators should endeavor to encourage the use of CBE/CBT and other ICT facilities in order to fast track teaching and learning among students. This will not only help students but also help teachers in easily realizing objectives.

Abstract Information and knowledge are the foremost tools in fighting the scourge of HIV/AIDS. Previous studies have focused more on HIV/AIDS and Nigerian undergraduates’ attitudes, beliefs and protective practices than how information factors influence their knowledge of the pandemic. This study, therefore, investigated the influence of access to HIV/AIDS information on its knowledge among undergraduates of federal universities in Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, with a combination of the purposive, proportionate and stratified random sampling technique used to select 1,679 undergraduates from five universities across five geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Questionnaire was the instrument used for collecting data, which were analyzed using Pearson’s product moment correlation and multiple regression. The most accessible sources of HIV/AIDS information among undergraduates were television (94.5 %), radio (93.0 %) and the Internet/ICT centers (90.5 %). The types of HIV/AIDS information frequently assessed were information on how to refuse sex (Mean=3.15), how to be faithful to one partner (Mean=3.12), sharing of sharp objects (Mean=3.12), blood transfusion (Mean=3.11), unprotected sexual intercourse (Mean=3.10) and how to use condoms correctly (Mean=3.09). Access to HIV/AIDS information (r=0.15) resulted in positive significant relationships with HIV/AIDS knowledge, thus access to HIV/AIDS information has a positive influence on the promotion of knowledge of HIV/AIDS among undergraduates. The level of study was also a predictor of HIV/AIDS knowledge, which was not the case for factors of age, discipline, gender, marital status, tribe and religion. The AIDS service organizations and program developers should come up with strategies that would strengthen and improve the content, accuracy and ease of understanding of HIV/AIDS information that students have access to in order to facilitate its use.
