ABSTRACT Objectives: Although wisdom is a desirable life span developmental goal, researchers have often lacked brief and reliable construct measures. We examined whether an abbreviated set of items could be empirically derived from the popular 40-item five-factor Self-Assessed Wisdom Scale (SAWS). Design: Survey data from 709 respondents were randomly split into two and analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Setting: The survey was conducted online in Australia. Participants: The total sample consisted of 709 participants (M age = 35.67 years; age range = 15–92 years) of whom 22% were male, and 78% female. Measurement: The study analyzed the 40-item SAWS. Results: Sample 1 showed the traditional five-factor structure for the 40-item SAWS did not fit the data. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) on Sample 2 offered an alternative model based on a 15-item, five-factor solution with the latent variables Reminiscence/Reflection, Humor, Emotional Regulation, Experience, and Openness. This model, which replicates the factor structure of the original 40-item SAWS with a short form of 15 items, was then confirmed on Sample 1 using a CFA that produced acceptable fit and measurement invariance across age groups. Conclusions: We suggest the abbreviated SAWS-15 can be useful as a measure of individual differences in wisdom, and we highlight areas for future research.

Optimism is a part of positive psychology which leads to better adaptive and coping skills and reduced stress level in an individual. The aim of the present research was to study the association of optimism and perceived stress among young adults. The sample consisted of 170 young adults (79 males and 91 females) within the age range of 18 to 25 years. Purposive sampling technique was employed for collecting the data. The Perceived stress scale-10 (PSS; Cohen, Kamarack & Marmelstein, 1983) and Life Orientation Test- Revised (Scheir, Carver, & Bridges, 1994) was used for measuring perceived stress and optimism respectively. Correlation and t-test was found using IBM SPSS software. Findings suggested that optimism was negatively correlated with perceived stress. Females were found to score significantly higher on perceived stress levels than males. While the gender difference in optimism level was reported to be insignificant. Future research needs to be conducted on the relationship between gender and levels of optimism.

ABSTRACTBullying is a negative behavior that many students do. This behavior occurs a lot in the school environment carried out by senior students against juniors. The individual's ability to control emotions is low causing behavioral disturbances, so they choose to do bullying behavior. One of the factors that influence bullying behavior is emotion regulation. This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional regulation and bullying in class XII students at SMA Negeri 2 Makassar. Respondents in this study were 202 students using a simple random sampling technique. This study uses a quantitative approach with data analysis techniques Spearman rank correlation and t-test. The study used a bullying scale and an emotion regulation scale. The results showed there was a significant relationship between emotion regulation and bullying (p=0.001, r=-0.230). Its means that the higher the emotional regulation, the lower the bullying in class XII students at SMA Negeri 2 Makassar and there are differences in bullying behavior based on gender. The implication of this research for students is that they need to improve their ability to regulate emotions to avoid bullying or other negative behavior. Keywords: Emotion Regulation, Bullying, Students. ABSTRAKBullying merupakan perilaku negatif yang banyak dilakukan siswa. We must often give and receive constructive feedback in various contexts. Constructive feedback offers unique benefits including improvements in performance, goal-pursuit, self-awareness, and self-efficacy. However, it is challenging to give and receive. This may be due to threats to self-concept that giving and receiving constructive feedback pose. Yet, the role of self-concept threat in constructive feedback remains understudied. We propose that giving and receiving constructive feedback trigger self-concept threat and can result in negative affect for givers and recipients. This framing allows us to approach feedback in a novel way -- as an emotion-regulation problem. Recipients must down-regulate negative affect when hearing negative self-relevant information. Givers must down-regulate negative affect when risking interpersonal rifts or rejection. Here, we review relevant emotion regulation literature as it applies to the feedback process and identify points for future research. Conceptualizing constructive feedback as an emotional-regulation challenge may inform the design of future interventions.

"Trait anxiety is a pervasive tendency to attend to and experience fears and worries to a disproportionate degree, across various situations. This study sought to determine if participants who undergo emotional working memory training will have significantly lower scores on the trait anxiety scales post-intervention. The study also sought to determine if emotional regulation mediated the relationship between working memory training and trait anxiety. Trait anxiety was measured using the form Y2 of the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y2). Emotion regulation was measured using the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). Forty-nine participants underwent 20 days of computerized emotional working memory training called Emotional Dual n-back, which involves viewing a continuous stream of emotional content on a 3x3 grid, and then remembering the location and color of items presented on the grid. The control group consisted of fifty-one participants. Participants of the treatment group had significantly lower trait anxiety compared to controls post-intervention. Mediation analysis determined that working memory training was significantly related to trait anxiety reduction as measured by the STAI-Y2. Emotion regulation was found not to mediate between working memory training and trait anxiety reduction. Results suggest that working memory training may be useful in reducing psychoemotional symptoms of trait anxiety. Moreover, it proposes for future research to further look into the mediating role of emotion regulation via neuroimaging and the development of more comprehensive measures of emotion regulation."

The main objective of this paper is to explore the relations between emotional regulation and burnout among Romanian service employees, and to empirically validate the adequacy of emotional regulation model (Gross, 1998) to the emotional work paradigm. We were interested to clarify not only the relations among positive - negative affectivity of employees and their emotion regulation strategies (attention deployment, cognitive change and response modulation), but also the relations among these strategies and burnout. The empirical research was mainly based on questionnaires developed based on the previous literature in the field, and also on the data gathered directly from Romanian population. The results show that the positive affectivity of service employees relates to certain emotion regulation strategies and prevent burnout. Moreover, certain emotion regulation strategies also prevent burnout. In the end, some practical implications and directions for future research are discussed.
