This study aims to improve reading comprehension for the eleventh-grade students at SMA MATHLAUL ANWAR, consisting of 30 students in using the think-pair-share model. The researchers applied the think-pair-share model because this considered the model as one of the best teaching methods for teaching. Students use the think-pair-share model in learning activities to raise their reading comprehension, increase their enthusiasm, and become active in classroom learning. Besides, the benefits of using the Think-Pair-Share method in reading discussions will reveal opportunities to encourage students to be active in the learning process, such as discussing and helping each other solve problems or assignments. That will have a positive impact on students in accepted learning material provided by the teacher. In this study, the writer researched three cycles to achieve student improvement in reading comprehension. The results of the tests that have been done lead to the mean grade of students in each cycle as a follow-up pre-cycle is 68, while in the second cycle 71, and the last can be seen as a terrace in the third cycle 75. Based on the mean grade of two cycles above, we can prove that the think-pair-share technique has succeeded in increasing the students' ability to teach reading comprehension in analytical exposition texts.

The research was conducted in several English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at a Midwest American university town. The study participants were 15 international students from various different Secondary Schools who are currently enrolled at this university. Data was collected by using a mixed-methods approach with surveys and follow-up interviews, and was analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results have shown that learners’ beliefs and their learning background have an influence on their perceptions of learning activities and teaching methods. In terms of enjoyment of such practices, there was an apparent inclination towards interactive and communicative approaches rather than  traditional, non-communicative ones, whereas no distinct style was favored in regard to effectiveness.

Self-modeling involves the observation of oneself on an edited videotape to show a desired performance (Dowrick & Dove, 1980). While research has investigated the effects of self-modeling on physical performance and psychological mechanisms in relation to skill acquisition (e.g., Clark & Ste-Marie, 2007), no research to date has used a qualitative approach to examine the thought processes athletes engage in during the viewing of a self-modeling video in a competitive sport environment. The purpose of this study was to explore the self-regulatory processes of ten divers who viewed a self-modeling video during competitions. After competition, the divers were asked four questions relating to the self-modeling video. Zimmerman’s (2000) self-regulation framework was adopted for deductive analysis of the responses to those questions. The results indicated that a number of self-regulatory processes were employed, and they were mainly those in the forethought (75%) and self-reflection (25%) phases of Zimmerman’s model. Directions for future research in self-regulation and self-modeling are discussed.

Background: Self-Practice/Self-Reflection (SP/SR) is increasingly beginning to feature as a central component of CBT training programmes (Bennett-Levy et al., 2001). Programmes including a reflective element, however, are not unproblematic and it has been documented that simply setting time aside for reflection does not necessarily result in trainees using such time to reflect. Such limitations may be overcome by including a requirement to post reflections on reflective blogs. Aim: To examine the effect that a requirement to contribute to a reflective blog had upon a SP/SR approach to CBT training. Method: A focus group methodology was adopted with data analyzed using a general inductive qualitative approach. Results: The requirement to use blogs to reflect upon the self-practice of CBT techniques enhanced SP/SR, established a learning community, and improved course supervision, although some technical difficulties arose. Conclusions: Consideration should be given towards using reflective blogs to support a SP/SR approach to CBT training. Benefits afforded by the use of reflective blogs further establish SP/SR as a valid and flexible training approach.

In an online course, students learn independently in the virtual environment without teacher’s on-the-spot support. However, many students are addicted to the Internet which is filled with a plethora of shopping websites, online games, and social networks (e.g. Facebook). To help keep students focused on and involved in online or blended courses requires teachers’ exquisite design of their online teaching methods and learning activities. Thus, the author in this study redesigned his online pedagogy, collaborative learning (CL) with initiation and self-regulated learning (SRL) with feedback, based on the teaching results from previous semesters and his own self-reflection. This study involved an experiment that included 227 sophomores from four class sections. The results of this study indicate that students from CIS group (who received online CL with initiation and SRL) had the highest involvement. The implications for educators that plan to deliver online learning were also provided in this study.

The purpose of this research is to investigate and understand how students are using computer. The activities that a student undertakes with the help of computers which might be fulfilling some academic or non academic purpose, is of great interest. It will help in understanding the limitations and potentials offered by the technology for use of computer in classroom. This paper brings out the three major kinds of activities that students undertake with computer; self learning activities, Information collection tasks and communication and group activities. The study further analyses the effect of demographics i.e. gender, age and faculty (department) of students on the activities with computer. The results show that gender has no impact on the activities of students with computer. The age impacts only the activities related to Information collection by using computer where as the faculty of student significantly impacts all the activities viz. self learning activities, Information collection tasks and communication and group activities. The findings from this research can be used in designing future e-learning initiatives and development e-learning tools
