Abstract:Studies on happiness or well-being and their possibilities for improvement in the educational context have aroused great interest in the scientific community. However, the different studies usually ignore the opinions of teachers, thus neglecting the contributions of the so-called "teacher's thinking" paradigm. In the present study, through a qualitative methodology of case study, two objectives have been proposed: 1) to know the perception of teachers in exercise on happiness, and 2) to assess the need to incorporate competencies in the new themes of Personal development from a positive perspective. The analysis of results shows a biased and partial knowledge of the concept of happiness according to the postulates of positive development. The need to deepen in this area, thus increasing the knowledge of the concept of happiness of the teaching staff through the permanent formation and the psico-pedagogic advice, becomes evident. This is intended to redirect educational action in order to improve it.

More knowledge of how the actual design of the laboratory work influence students’ communication, is needed to design and implement physics laboratory work lessons. The aim with this quantitative research, conducted at a Swedish upper secondary school, was to explore how the design of the laboratory work affects students’ communication. Twenty students divided into five groups participated in this natural case study and were video recorded while performing four practical tasks with the theme uniformly accelerated motion, designed by their teacher. The four workstations were categorised based on three predefined descriptors: outcome, approach and procedure. Students’ work at each workstation was coded according to five defined activities: planning, preparing equipment, collecting data, processing data and analysis of results. The activities were thereafter divided into shorter episodes that were coded for three different types of communication: disputational talk, cumulative talk and exploratory talk. The result shows that the amount of exploratory talk students engaged in are influenced by the style of the laboratory work and the character of the activity. Based on these research results, teachers can better accustom the laboratory work to facilitate fruitful physics discussions which endorse students’ learning. Keywords: different styles of laboratory work, different types of talk, quantitative analysis of students’ communication.

AbstractNon-lethal mitigation of crop use by elephants Loxodonta africana is an increasingly important part of protected area management across Africa and Asia. Recently, beehive fences have been suggested as a potential mitigation strategy. We tested the effectiveness of this method in a farming community adjacent to Udzungwa Mountains National Park in southern Tanzania. Over a 5.5-year period (2010–2016) a beehive fence was introduced and subsequently extended along the Park boundary. The probability that one or more farms experienced crop loss from elephants on a given day was reduced in the presence of the fence and was reduced further as the fence was extended. The number of hives occupied by bees along the fence was the best predictor of elephants’ visits to farms. Farms closest to the fence experienced a greater likelihood of damage, particularly during the initial period when the fence was shorter. The number of farms affected by elephants declined when the fence was extended. There was a higher probability of damage on farms that were closer to the Park boundary and further from a road. Our mixed results suggest that the shape, length and location of fences need to be carefully planned because changes in a farm's long-term susceptibility to elephant damage vary between individual farms; fences need to be long enough to be effective and ensure that decreasing crop loss frequency is not outweighed by an increasing number of farms damaged per visit.

The feasibility of hydroelectric plants depends on a variety of factors: water resource regime, geo-graphical, geological and environmental context, available technology, construction cost and eco-nomic value of produced energy. Choices about the building or renewal of hydroelectric plants should be based on the forecast of the future trend of these factors at least during the project life of the system. Focusing on the economic value of the produced energy this paper examines its influ-ence on the feasibility of hydroelectric plants. Analysis, referred to Italian case, were based on three different phases: i) the economic sustainability of small-scale hydroelectric plants under a minimum price guaranteed to the hydroelectric operator; ii) the estimate of the incentives to reach the thresholds of "acceptability" and "bankability" of the investment; iii) the analysis of results ob-tained in the previous phases using a model of the evolution of the electricity price in the period 2014-2100.

Teaching mathematics as a concept formation process requires rethinking the teacher's role, the conditions for organizing pedagogical work, the way of thinking, feeling and acting in education, the characteristics and interests of students. It needs the entire school community's involvement, presenting the content in a contextualized way, through a problematic situation, compatible with a real situation, which has elements that give meaning and construction to the mathematical content. This work sought to broaden the understanding of contextualization in the teaching of mathematics since working with content that is not related to the context in which the student is inserted is not attractive. To this end, a survey was conducted based on a semi-structured interview with the teachers and students of that school, in addition to observations and pedagogical practice. According to the results, the teachers' conceptions are identified and perceived, showing that the methodologies used by them in a contextualized way provide meaningful learning, since teaching is an active, evolving process about contextualization and its contribution to the learning of the students of this school, the research also shows how the contextualized teaching of mathematics is evaluated and the importance of bringing innovative, motivating and meaningful situations to classrooms. Therefore, it is understood that Contextualized Education in the teaching of mathematics enables the construction of the student's knowledge according to his reality, mainly due to the applicability of Mathematics, stimulates creativity, investigation, critical analysis of results and contributes significantly to the teaching-learning process.

The phenomenon of liquefaction is one of the most important problems in engineering projects.  It occurs in saturated sandy soils during the occurrence of earthquakes. Methods based on the standard penetration test (SPT) were developed to calculate the liquefaction potential according to the seismic loads. These methods have been developed and updated over time by some researchers. This paper analyses the comparison between methods of calculating liquefaction potential. The case study that was selected for the analysis of the comparison methods is Diyala Governorate soil. The methods that have been chosen for making a comparative analysis are the Japanese method, National Centre for Earthquake Engineering Research 1997 (NCEER) workshop, Task Force Report 2007 (Vancouver) and Boulanger and Idriss 2014. The analysis of results stated that the Boulanger and Idriss method is considered more suitable than others for calculating the potential for liquefaction in Diyala Governorate soil. It is found that the Boulanger and Idriss method has higher safety factor than the two methods (80.7% from Vancouver and 38.8% from the NCEER workshop) and less than the Japanese method

Abstract Elaborating on the theory of analytical philosophy and conservation doctrine, and a case study of a selected sample, the paper discusses the authenticity of the secondary roof cover of steel sheets on traditional Bosnian houses built for housing or economic purposes. Although such steel sheet replica of a shingle or šimla wooden cover is registered and defined as authentic in rural areas, its authenticity in urban traditional areas, where it can also be found, although not as often, has not been doctrinally examined. Comparative analysis of results of theoretical base and statistical data obtained from the selected sample determines the context where it is possible and recommendable to treat the steel sheet roof cover as authentic when carrying out restoration and reconstruction.
