Hopes, expectations and ambitions of people change in the course of time. People from different eras have different characteristics from those of the previous ones that are previous generations. These characteristics are reflected in the leadership behaviours they prefer and expect from the people they work with. In our age, people forming the workforce are generally from Generation X and Generation Y, which are different from each other. In this study, the aim is to compare the general leadership expectations of these two generations in maritime sector and discuss which style(s) best suit Generation Y maritime women, who will be in majority in the workplaces in the near future. To do this, we used some of the statements from the survey which is originally prepared for MENTORESS Project. We compare the responses given by women belonging to Generation X and Generation Y and discuss which leadership styles are better for Generation Y. In the end, it is found that two leadership styles, democratic and participative, seem to suit better to Generation Y women in maritime.

Today's workforce is more diverse than ever, comprised of five generational cohorts: Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z. As each generation has its own values, beliefs, and expectations, their leadership preferences pose new challenges for organizations. In this chapter, leadership approaches are discussed, and the differences and similarities among preferred generational leadership styles are examined. The purpose of this chapter is to determine an appropriate leadership style that meets the needs of all generations, and globally responsible inter-generational leadership has been suggested as the most effective approach.

This research focuses on the impact of netspeak on the formal writing skills of the users.  It is labelled as the hub of slang and informal language content by many experts. The current analysis accounts for  five objectives including the identification of the prime causative factors responsible for deviation in the use of the standard variety, the appliance of the impact of Netspeak on formal writing, the nature of its impact (positive or negative), the assessment of its impact with reference to age and on the basis of the kind of response netspeak receives from the living generations, determining its sustainability.  The objectives are attained through a questionnaire, collecting responses from the individuals belonging to Generation X and Generation Y. This study proposes that the influence of mother tongue and code switching are the prime causative factors of netspeak. The research further showcases the impact of the electronic variety on the users’ formal writing skills which can disturb their formal linguistic framework; however, the variety on its own has been indicated previously as a handy tool for the users. Focusing on the factor of age neutrality, the current study suggests that although Generation X is more inclined towards the use of the standard variety, yet it remains quite open-minded towards the existence and usage of the new variety on social media, stating it to be a “feature of the progressive world”.  The research reflects the enthralling nature of  netspeak which has massively contributed to its popularity. It was inferred that neither the platform (the digital world) is losing its power nor the users are in the mood of giving up on it in the near future. It can be said that it’s a budding variety for the people by the people, born to live, thus strengthening the sustainability argument.

The present work environment is dominated by generation x and generation y that have different characteristics, therefore the factors that determine work motivation need to be investigated to find out the differences between generation x and generation y. This research is a quantitative research that begins with qualitative research to look for additional factors outside the theory, then the distribution of questionnaires is conducted to 100 respondents generation x and 100 respondents generation y, who are still working in a company and who had ever worked in a company. The results shown that there is no significant difference between the factors that determine the work motivation on generation x and generation y, except on the salary factor. In addition, there is interesting finding where the top factor in generation x and generation y are the hygiene factors. The study is time limited, therefore, there is a need for further research to explore regarding the finding of this study. This study is expected to be useful for employees of generation x and generation y, as well as for human resources departments in companies.

The paper presents survey results regarding adoption of selected consumer trends (i.e. prosumption, collaborative consumption, non-ownership consumption, showrooming, and collective intelligence use and creation) by members of generations X and Y. We analyze and compare the frequency of certain behaviors representing the aforementioned trends and make an attempt to establish whether the two generations vary with reference to these trends adoption. The data collected from 576 generation X and 719 generation Y representatives via online survey confirm that there are significant dissimilarities between consumers of different age.

Research findings on generations have been becoming useful for event organizers and destination developers over the past decades. The current study investigated generational differences in exhibition dimensions, satisfaction, and future intentions along with trip characteristics of visitors to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Exhibition event held in a medium-sized city in the southeastern region of the US. Analysis confirmed the existence of six exhibition dimensions labeled as "exhibits," "staff," "facility," "concessions," "audio tours," and "hard cards" on the event. As part of the most substantial results, there were both dissimilarities and similarities in the exhibition dimensions across four generations including "Matures," "Baby Boomers," "Generation X," and "Generation Y." Analysis also suggested significant differences in exhibition visitors' overall satisfaction, future intentions, and trip characteristics across the generations. Some useful implications are discussed for exhibition event managers and organizers.

Abstract Children caregivers contributed significantly to care and support dementia parents globally. In the caregiving journey, making sense of providing care plays significant role in their caregiving journey. In an ageing society such as Hong Kong, different generations of children caregivers take up dementia caregiver roles. We hypothesized that from studying baby boomers (BB, born in 1946-1964) and generation X (GX, born in 1965-1980), generations have impacts on their meaning making and well-being outcomes. 601 Caregivers completed a paper or online battery of questionnaires on burden (ZBI-4), mental well-being (PHQ-9), caregiving factors (ADL, IADL, caregiving hours, Positive Aspect of Caregiving; PAC) and the meaning making factors (Finding Meaning Through Caregiving; FMTC). Results showed that significant difference between caregivers from two generations. GX have significantly lower meaning made, measured by PAC affirming self and enriching life, as well as FMTC provisional meaning. While they spent less caregiving hours for the more independent care recipients, they suffered from higher burden, higher FMTC loss/powerless and worse psychological well-being (PHQ). The findings demonstrated generation X caregiver suffered from lower level of the meaning made and worse psychological wellbeing outcomes than BB caregivers. Future caregiver studies should take generational effect into account and services shall be provided in a generation-responsive approach.
