The aim of this study was to analyze the information on the taxonomy of bee viruses in order to help the reader to navigate throughout this topic. Classification of bee viruses is a changing system. The best known bee viruses belong to the Dicistroviridae and Iflaviridae (Picornavirales; ssRNA +) families. Taxa from the Baculoviridae, Iridoviridae and Poxviridae families should be also considered as potential honeybee pathogens. English re-searchers have informed about 18 “important bee viruses.” 21 different apian virus taxa were blamed, among others, for honeybee losses in US apiaries, including 10 virus taxa considered as the most pathogenic. One of the most comprehensive descriptions of the known bee virus taxa has been provided in the materials of the Europe-an COLOSS project. Detailed data from all the above sources were shown in this review. We also analyzed the possibilities of the appearance of some honeybee-parasite viruses, as well as other insect viruses and plant virus-es in honeybees. A separate table provides information about the additional publications on the most important taxa of the apian viruses. The crucial role of V. destructor infestation for increased risk of viral infections and, therefore, the urgent need of research on apian virology and on ways of increasing of the honeybee immuni-ty/resistance has been indicated.

RNA viruses play a significant role in the current high losses of pollinators. Although many studies have focused on the epidemiology of western honey bee (Apis mellifera) viruses at the colony level, the dynamics of virus infection within colonies remains poorly explored. In this study, the two main variants of the ubiquitous honey bee virus DWV as well as three major honey bee viruses (SBV, ABPV and BQCV) were analyzed from Varroa-destructor-parasitized pupae. More precisely, RT-qPCR was used to quantify and compare virus genome copies across honey bee pupae at the individual and subfamily levels (i.e., patrilines, sharing the same mother queen but with different drones as fathers). Additionally, virus genome copies were compared in cells parasitized by reproducing and non-reproducing mite foundresses to assess the role of this vector. Only DWV was detected in the samples, and the two variants of this virus significantly differed when comparing the sampling period, colonies and patrilines. Moreover, DWV-A and DWV-B exhibited different infection patterns, reflecting contrasting dynamics. Altogether, these results provide new insight into honey bee diseases and stress the need for more studies about the mechanisms of intra-colonial disease variation in social insects.

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is the most common of craniofacial anomalies in humans. CLP results from disruption of embryonic processes during orofacial development; while syndromic clefts may have clearer aetiology, non-syndromic clefts are heterogeneous in aetiology. It is important for GDPs to understand the classification of CLP and the structure of centralized cleft centres in order to communicate with cleft teams. This article aims to clarify the role of GDPs within cleft management and discusses challenges in maintaining oral health in this group of patients, including increased risk of dental caries and periodontal disease, dental anomalies and psychosocial considerations. CPD/Clinical Relevance: The GDP should be responsible for maintaining good oral health for the patient with cleft lip and palate, focusing on prevention from a young age and restorative work if needed.

Gastric cancer has reduced prevalence, but poor prognoses. To improve treatment, better knowledge of carcinogenesis and cells of origin should be sought. Stomach cancers are typically localized to one of the three mucosae; cardial, oxyntic and antral. Moreover, not only the stem cell, but the ECL cell may proliferate and give rise to tumours. According to Laurén, the classification of gastric carcinomas seems to reflect biological important differences and possible different cell of origin since the two subtypes, intestinal and diffuse, do not transform into the other and show different epidemiology. The stem cell probably gives rise to the intestinal type, whereas the ECL cell may be important in the diffuse type. Elevation of gastrin may be the carcinogenic factor for Helicobacter pylori as well as the recently described increased risk of gastric cancer due to proton pump inhibitor treatment. Therefore, it is essential to determine the role of the gastrin target cell, the ECL cell, in gastric carcinogenesis. Clinical trials with gastrin antagonists could improve prognoses in those with gastrin receptor positive tumours. However, further studies on gastric carcinomas applying relative available methods and with the highest sensitivity are warranted to improve our knowledge of gastric carcinogenesis.

The role of non-epidemic viral encephalitis and HIV-infection in the development of acute epileptic seizures and epilepsy, analysis of recent epidemiological data and risk factors are discussed. Infections of the central nervous system produce up to 15 % of all types of new-onset symptomatic epileptic seizures. The risk depends on the ethology of infection, localization of lesion and severity. A high risk of development of epilepsy is seen in case of herpetic encephalitis and HIV-infection. The viral infections have been shown to be often accelerated by epileptic seizures in the acute phase of encephalitis and lead to an increased risk of developing epilepsy later. The mechanisms of development of early and late seizures are different. There are many forms of viral encephalitis, and all are associated to varying degrees with subsequent epilepsy. The risk of developing epilepsy following viral encephalitis is increased seven- to tenfold over premorbid levels. This risk increases the premorbid risk by 22 times if a patient experiences early seizures during the acute infection. Timely treatment of viral infections and early seizures reduces the risk of developing epilepsy later. The treatment of epileptic seizures due to viral infection is similar to those of symptomatic epilepsy. It is necessary to take into account possible drug-drug interactions between antiepileptic and antiviral drugs. Levetiracetam is used as an antiepileptic drug of the first choice in the treatment of epilepsy and epileptic seizures in the case of viral encephalitis.

Abstract Introduction This article compares opioid use patterns following four-corner arthrodesis (FCA) and proximal row carpectomy (PRC) and identifies risk factors and complications associated with prolonged opioid consumption. Materials and Methods The PearlDiver Research Program was used to identify patients undergoing primary FCA (Current Procedural Terminology [CPT] codes 25820, 25825) or PRC (CPT 25215) from 2007 to 2017. Patient demographics, comorbidities, perioperative opioid use, and postoperative complications were assessed. Opioids were identified through generic drug codes while complications were defined by International Classification of Diseases, Ninth and Tenth Revisions, Clinical Modification codes. Multivariable logistic regressions were performed with p < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results A total of 888 patients underwent FCA and 835 underwent PRC. Three months postoperatively, more FCA patients (18.0%) continued to use opioids than PRC patients (14.7%) (p = 0.033). Preoperative opioid use was the strongest risk factor for prolonged opioid use for both FCA (odds ratio [OR]: 4.91; p < 0.001) and PRC (OR: 6.33; p < 0.001). Prolonged opioid use was associated with an increased risk of implant complications (OR: 4.96; p < 0.001) and conversion to total wrist arthrodesis (OR: 3.55; p < 0.001) following FCA. Conclusion Prolonged postoperative opioid use is more frequent in patients undergoing FCA than PRC. Understanding the prevalence, risk factors, and complications associated with prolonged postoperative opioid use after these procedures may help physicians counsel patients and implement opioid minimization strategies preoperatively.

This review summarizes published reports on the utility of melatonin as a treatment for virus-mediated diseases. Of special note are the data related to the role of melatonin in influencing Ebola virus disease. This infection and deadly condition has no effective treatment and the published works documenting the ability of melatonin to attenuate the severity of viral infections generally and Ebola infection specifically are considered. The capacity of melatonin to prevent one of the major complications of an Ebola infection, i.e., the hemorrhagic shock syndrome, which often contributes to the high mortality rate, is noteworthy. Considering the high safety profile of melatonin, the fact that it is easily produced, inexpensive and can be self-administered makes it an attractive potential treatment for Ebola virus pathology.

Vitamin A (retinol) is one of the key elements for regulating the immune response and controls the division and differentiation of epithelial cells of the mucous membranes of the bronchopulmonary system, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, eyes, etc. Its significance in the context of the COVID‑19 pandemic is difficult to overestimate. However, a number of studies conducted in the past have associated the additional intake of vitamin A with an increased risk of developing cancer, as a result of which vitamin A was practically excluded from therapeutic practice in developed countries. Our review highlights the role of vitamin A in maintaining human health and the latest data on its effect on the development mechanisms of somatic pathology.

The “Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19)” is caused by “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)”, a newly discovered member of the Coronaviridae family of viruses which is a highly communicable. Rasayana working on Respiratory system are best for Prevention of Coronavirus and boosting immune system. Rasayana Chikitsa can be effective in the Prevention as well as reducing symptoms of COVID-19.
