The aim of the study was to determine the effect of three different phyto-humic feed preparations on the basic qualitative characteristics of eggs, i.e. total cholesterol content and fatty acid profile of the yolk. The study was carried out on 80 Lohmann Brown (LB) laying hens in an experimental facility with a floor maintenance system on a straw bedding (5 layers/m2). A control group (K) and three experimental ones (A, B, C), with 20 birds in each (in separate pens), were created. The birds were placed in the 16th week of life, while the experimental preparations were introduced in the 22nd week of life and were administered for 43 weeks (constant 3% addition to the feed mixture).The following preparations were applied: humic-peat (H-t) in group A, humic-herbal (H-z) in group B, and humic-lucerne (H-1) in group C. The eggs for the study were collected three times, 30 eggs from each group in the following periods: 1st series – 31st week of life (peak of laying period); 2nd series – 54th week of life (later phase of laying period) and 3rd series – 65th week of life (final phase of laying period). Six samples (mean of 5 well-mixed yolks) from each group in three laying periods (360 eggs were used in total) were prepared for laboratory analyzes (lipids examination). Laboratory analyzes were performed using a chromatograph – Finnigan Focus PolarisQ manufactured by Thermo Electron with capillary columns: HP-88 by Agilent J&W (fatty acids) and Rtx-1MS by Restek (cholesterol). The applied phytohumic preparations – but only those with a share of dried lucerne or herbs – significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced total cholesterol content, especially in group C (10.88 mg/g yolk) compared to group K (11.94 mg/g yolk). All preparations positively influenced the fatty acids profile of yolk; there was a significant (p ≤ 0.05) increase in the concentration of n-3 PUFAs (max 2.84% in the group B), the n-6/n-3 ratio decreased significantly (most beneficial 8.33 in group B), and lipids quality improved: atherogenic index (AI) decreased significantly (p ≤ 0.05) in group A (0.32) and thrombogenic index (TI) was a significantly (p ≤ 0.05) lower in all experimental groups (0.83 – 0.84) compared to group K (0.36 and 0.87 respectively). Dietary phyto-humic preparations increased the nutritional and dietary value of hen eggs.

Abstract The aim of the study was to determine the effects of prebiotic GOS on muscle histomorphometry and the total lipid, total cholesterol content and fatty acids profile in the meat of common carp. The 60-day-long experiment was performed on one-year-old fish. Three diets were used in the experiment: control diet 1 (C) with no microbiota affecting feed additives, diet 2 (B1) with 1 % of GOS, and diet 3 (B2) with 2 % of GOS. At the end of the trial, 16 individuals from each treatment group were used for the analyses. Fish meat from the B1 group had significantly higher lipid content compared to B2, but neither B1 nor B2 groups were different from the control group. The percentages of SFA, MUFA, PUFA, indexes n-3/n-6, PUFA/SFA, AI and TI, and total cholesterol content were not affected, in contrast to C14:0, C16:1 n-7, C18:0, C18:2 n-6, C20:4 n-6, and total n-6 FA. GOS significantly increased the percentage of normal fibres, while the lower number of fibre atrophy and splitting were observed. The results confirm that diet supplemented with 2 % GOS may be recommended as feed additive in carp nutrition due to positive effects on some fatty acids profiles and muscle microstructure.

The effect of supplementing fattening pigs with oils differing in MUFA (monounusaturated fatty acids) and PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) level addition for fatteners diets on the cholesterol content of m. longissimus was investigated. In a feeding trial with 48 crossbred pigs [? ($ White Polish Large x S Polish Landrace) x <$ Pietrain] randomly assigned to four treatments groups of 12 animals each (6 gilts and 6 barrows), dietary supplements of 3% maize, sunflower or linseed oil in the experimental groups and of 3% lard in the control group were applied. Total cholesterol in the longissimus muscle of linseed oil supplemented pigs was found to decrease significantly (PO.01) compared to the lard-fed pigs (60.75 vs. 71.37 mg/100 g of fresh tissue). Similar tendencies for reduced cholesterol level in longissimus muscle of sunflower and maize oil supplemented pigs were also noted. The production of pork with reduced total cholesterol seems to be important in terms of consumer health and culinary value.

In the present study we aimed to examine the effect of glycine-Zn chelates (ZnGly) used in amounts corresponding to 0, 100, 50 or 25% of the requirement of this element on the fatty acids profile, antioxidative status, and dietetic value (atherogenic index (AI), thrombogenic index (TI), hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic ratio (h/H)) of breast muscles in broiler chickens. Two hundred 1-day-old Ross 308 male chicks were split into four equipotent experimental groups (assigned to 20 cages, 10 chicks in each, replicated five times): control, ZnGly-100, ZnGly-50 and ZnGly-25. The broilers received feed and water ad libitum. The experiment lasted 42 days. Significant differences in the content of respective fatty acids in the meat of chickens receiving ZnGly were observed in comparison to the control group; but they were not directional changes. A positive effect (P &lt; 0.05) of Zn-Gly on certain indices of meat determined by the oxidoreductive status of the body or regulating such status was noted: superoxide dismutase, catalase and malondialdehyde. A significant effect of ZnGly on the dietetic value of broiler chickens’ breast meat was noted: the highest (P &lt; 0.05) AI value was found in the ZnGly-50 and ZnGly-25 groups, and TI value in the ZnGly-25 group. The h/H relationship can be presented as ZnGly-25 &lt; ZnGly-50 &lt; ZnGly-100 &lt; control group. To improve the dietetic value and to increase the oxidative stability of breast muscle meat, broiler chickens must receive ZnGly in an amount corresponding to more than 25% of the requirement of this element.

Aims: The current study investigated the effects of polyunsaturated Omega-3-fatty acids on underlying mechanism linked with diabetes in streptozocin induced type 2 diabetic Wistar rats. Study Design:  Experimental analytical Study. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted at Isra University Hyderabad and Sindh Agricultural University, Tandojam between November 2016 and November 2018. Methodology: Seventy-five Wistar rats were assorted to five groups (15 rats per group): negative control group A and positive control group B and experimental groups C, D and E. Rats within group B,C,D, and E were injected with streptozocin (65 mg/kg body weight) to induce diabetes. Experimental groups C, D and E received Omega-3-fatty acid supplemented food in 0.3 g, 0.4 g and 0.5 g/kg bodyweight dosage for 12 weeks, respectively. Results: Omega-3-fatty acids treated rats showed significant decrease in blood glucose level and rise in serum insulin as compared to positive control group (p-value = 0.001). At the same time, they showed significantly increased expression of insulin gene along with transcription factors: PDX1 and NKX6.1 as compared to group A (p-value = 0.001). Conclusion: It is concluded that O3FAs reduces insulin resistance in Streptozocin-induced diabetic Wistar rats by modulating the transcription factors essential for insulin gene expression.

Abstract: Treatment using medicinal plants has already been applied before modern medicine. Soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves have been used for the treatment of various diseases. The purpose of this study was to test whether the soursop leaf extract could lower the total cholesterol levels of wistar rats used as test animals. Prior to lowering the cholesterol levels, they first had to be raised, and to raise the level of total cholesterol, all test animals were induced by propyl thiouracyl (PTU). Rosuvastatin was used for positive control group F. Wistar rats were divided into six groups. Group A was the normal control group. Group B was given just PTU. Groups C, D, and E, after having been given PTU, were given respective doses of 50mg, 100mg, and 200mg/day of soursop leaf extract. Group F was given PTU and then rosuvastatin. The results showed that the total cholesterol levels in rats given soursop leaf extract or rosuvastatin were lower than rats that were not given soursop leaf extract or rosuvastatin. Conclusion: soursop leaf extract could lower the total cholesterol levels of wistar rats. Daun sirsak telah digunakan untuk pengobatan bermacam penyakit. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menguji apakah ekstrak daun sirsak dapat menurunkan kadar total kolesterol tikus wistar yang digunakan sebagai hewan uji. Untuk menaikkan kadar total kolesterol hewan uji diinduksi dengan PTU. Untuk kontrol positif digunakan rosuvastatin. Tikus wistar dibagi dalam 6 kelompok yang terdiri Kelompok A sebagai kontrol normal, Kelompok B diberikan PTU, Kelompok C, D, dan E diberikan PTU kemudian diberikan berturut-turut ekstrak daun sirsak dosis 50mg, 100mg, dan 200mg/hari, Kelompok F diberikan PTU kemudian rosuvastatin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar kolesterol total pada tikus yang diberikan ekstrak daun sirsak atau rosuvastatin lebih rendah daripada tikus yang tidak diberikan ekstrak daun sirsak atau rosuvastatin. Simpulan: ekstrak daun sirsak dapat menurunkan kadar total kolesterol tikus wistar.Kata kunci: daun sirsak, kolesterol

Brown trout is a fish species that both is caught and is cultured. This study has presented a comparison on proximate composition, fatty acids profile and lipid quality of wild- and cultured brown trout, and Atlantic salmon. Crude protein and crude oil of Atlantic salmon were found highest than wild and cultured brown trout and significantly differences (P<0.05). Although there is no significantly difference (P<0.05) between cultured brown trout and Atlantic salmon on eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), there are significantly differences (P<0.05) between three fish samples on linoleic acid, linolenic acid and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) values. Cultured brown trout has given lowest oleic acid (C18:1n9c) value and ƩMUFAs (Mono unsaturated fatty acids) with 28.05% and 35.43%. Atherogenic index and thrombogenic index of all groups were found low values. Although the highest value h/H was found in Atlantic salmon, the highest value of FLQ (Flesh lipid quality) was found in cultured brown trout.

The quest for excellence in mental and physical health is not new. We find various references and formulations in Ayurvedic classics meant for promoting mental and physical health of a child. Suvarna Prashan is one of the formulations explained in age old Ayurvedic classic Kashyap Samhita. This formulation is very widely used now days as a memory and immune booster for children. But there is very little systematic documented study which can be used to evaluate the efficacy of the formulation. Suvarna Bhasma was prepared in Ayurved Rasayani Pharmacy, Pune. Madhu and Ghrita were collected from KLE Ayurveda Pharmacy, Belgaum. Suvarna Bindu Prashan was prepared in KLE Ayurved pharmacy, Belgaum. It contains Suvarna Bhasma, Ghrita and Madhu. Twenty apparently healthy male and female children with age group of three to four years were ready to sign inform consent form were selected into two groups each. Subjects in Group A received Suvarna Bindu Prashan where as Group B (Control group) did not receive any treatment. Both the groups were observed for six months. Children in Suvarna Bindu Prashan group showed significant reduction in the scores of eating habits, behavior, mood, temperament and scores of event of illness. However there was no significant difference in the score of sleeping habit. There was significant increase in IQ percentage.

Abstract Objective To investigate the impact of microecological preparation combined with modified low-carbon diet on the glucolipid metabolism and cardiovascular complication in obese patients. Methods From August 2017 to July 2020, 66 obese patients were recruited, and administrated with an modified low-carbon diet with (group A) or without (Group B) microecology preparation and a balanced diet in control group (group C) for 6 months. Meanwhile, 20 volunteers administrated with a balanced diet were recruited as the healthy control group (group D). Results After 6-month intervention, obese subjects in group A and B showed significant improvement of body and liver fat mass, reduction of serum lipid levels, intestinal barrier function markers, insulin resistance index (IRI), high blood pressure (HBP) and carotid intima thickness, as compared with subjects in group C. More importantly, subjects in group A had better improvement of vascular endothelial elasticity and intimal thickness than subjects in group B. However, these intervention had no effect on carotid atherosclerotic plaque. Conclusion Administration of microecological preparation combined with modified low-carbon diet had better improvement of intestinal barrier function, glucose and lipid metabolism, and cardiovascular complications than low-carbon diet in obese patients, but the effect of a simple low-carb diet on carotid atherosclerotic plaque need to be further addressed.

Abstract Background This study explored the comparison of the thermal insulation effect of incubator to infusion thermometer in laparoscopic hysterectomy. Methods We assigned 75 patients enrolled in the study randomly to three groups: Group A: Used warming blanket; group B: Used warming blanket and infusion thermometer; group C: Used warming blanket and incubator. The nasopharyngeal temperature at different time points during the operation served as the primary outcome. Results The nasopharyngeal temperature of the infusion heating group was significantly higher than that of the incubator group 60 min from the beginning of surgery (T3): 36.10 ± 0.20 vs 35.81 ± 0.20 (P<0.001)90 min from the beginning of surgery (T4): 36.35 ± 0.20 vs 35.85 ± 0.17 (P<0.001). Besides, the nasopharyngeal temperature of the incubator group was significantly higher compared to that of the control group 60 min from the beginning of surgery (T3): 35.81 ± 0.20 vs 35.62 ± 0.18 (P<0.001); 90 min from the beginning of surgery (T4): 35.85 ± 0.17 vs 35.60 ± 0.17 (P<0.001). Regarding the wake-up time, that of the control group was significantly higher compared to the infusion heating group: 24 ± 4 vs 21 ± 4 (P = 0.004) and the incubator group: 24 ± 4 vs 22 ± 4 (P = 0.035). Conclusion Warming blanket (38 °C) combined infusion thermometer (37 °C) provides better perioperative thermal insulation. Hospitals without an infusion thermometer can opt for an incubator as a substitute. Trial registration This trial was registered with ChiCTR2000039162, 20 October 2020.

Objectives: To determine the effect of mechanical loading of bone on the stability and histomorphometric variables of the osseointegration of dental implants using an experimental test in an animal model. Materials and Methods: A total of 4 human implants were placed in both tibiae of 10 New Zealand rabbits (n = 40). A 6-week osseointegration was considered, and the rabbits were randomly assigned to two groups: Group A (Test group) included 5 rabbits that ran on a treadmill for 20 min daily during the osseointegration period; Group B (Controls) included the other 5 that were housed conventionally. The monitored variables were related to the primary and secondary stability of the dental implants (implant stability quotient—ISQ), vertical bone growth, bone to implant contact (BIC), area of regenerated bone and the percentage of immature matrix. Results: The results of the study show a greater vertical bone growth (Group A 1.26 ± 0.48 mm, Group B 0.32 ± 0.47 mm, p < 0.001), higher ISQ values (Group A 11.25 ± 6.10 ISQ, 15.73%; Group B 5.80 ± 5.97 ISQ, 7.99%, p = 0.006) and a higher BIC (Group A 19.37%, Group B 23.60%, p = 0.0058) for implants in the test group, with statistically significant differences. A higher percentage of immature bone matrix was observed for implants in the control group (20.68 ± 9.53) than those in the test group (15.38 ± 8.84) (p = 0.108). A larger area of regenerated bone was also observed for the test implants (Group A 280.50 ± 125.40 mm2, Group B 228.00 ± 141.40 mm2), but it was not statistically significant (p = 0.121). Conclusions: The mechanical loading of bone improves the stability and the histomorphometric variables of the osseointegration of dental implants.
