ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze how the nursing team from a Psychosocial Care Center II relates its insertion in the service with the work process. Methods: Descriptive, analytical research outlined as a case study with a qualitative approach. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nursing professionals and went through content analysis subsidized by Bardin’s work. Results: Two thematic categories emerged: a) Ways of intake in the nursing services at the Psychosocial Care Center; b) Setbacks in nursing routine at the Psychosocial Care Center. Final considerations: The fact that the professionals have not planned to work in mental health nor have training impacts the rhythm of psychosocial care development at the Psychosocial Care Center, forcing them to seek training in the field after admission. Unmotivated by the working conditions, the nursing team suffers from the absence of an interdisciplinary partnership and goes to great lengths to approach psychosocial care.

Abstract Background Health workers, in short supply in many low-and-middle-income countries, are at increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aimed to assess how South Africa, prepared to protect its health workers from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods This was a cross-sectional study design applying participatory action research in four provinces of South Africa. A semi-structured questionnaire and a qualitative observational HealthWISE walkthrough risk assessment was carried out to collect data on occupational safety and health (OSH) systems in 45 hospitals across four provinces to identify factors associated with health worker protection. Adapting the International Labour Organization (ILO) and World Health Organization (WHO) HealthWISE tool, we compiled compliance scores through walkthrough surveys. We used logistic regression to analyze the relationship between readiness indicators and the actual implementation of protective measures. Results We found that health facilities in all four provinces had SARS-CoV-2 plans for the general population but no comprehensive OHS plan for health workers. Provincial Departments of Health (PDoH) varied in how they were organized to respond: Provinces A and D had an OSH SARS-CoV-2 provincial coordinating team and a dedicated budget for occupational health; Province A had an occupational health doctor and nurse; while Province B had an occupational health nurse; Province A and D PDoHs had functional OSH committees; and Province D had conducted some health risk assessments specific to SARS-CoV-2. However, none of the assessed health facilities had an acceptable HealthWISE compliance score (≥ 75%) due to poor ventilation and inadequate administrative control measures. While the supply of personal protective equipment was adequate, it was often not worn properly. Our study found that having an OSH SARS-CoV-2 policy was significantly associated with higher personal protective equipment and ventilation scores. In addition, our analysis showed that hospitals with higher compliance scores had significantly lower infection rates (IRR 0.98; 95% CI: 0.97, 0.98). Conclusions Despite some initial preparedness, greater effort to protect health workers is still warranted. Low-and-middle-income countries may need to pay more attention to OSH systems and consider using tools, such as ILO/WHO HealthWISE tool, to protect health workers’ health.

Were analyzed the working conditions in a small feed mill, with identification of occupational risks (physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and accidents) and measurement of noise levels. Data collection was performed qualitatively by using a survey, previously developed, as well as in loco observation. There was at least one factor belonging to the five occupational risks, and the ergonomic risk was associated with all activities. The feed mill assessed was not in accordance with the Regulatory Standards related to Health and Safety, and arrangements to adjust it accordingly must be taken. Corrective actions goes from the purchase and supply of appropriate personal protective equipment for worker to structural changes, such as installing handrails and repairing of electrical installations. These initiatives, if implemented could contribute to reducing the risks that affect the health and physical integrity, with opportunities to improve quality and productivity of the services performed.

The aim of this work is to explore the working conditions of logistics personnel in hospital and provide a new approach for improving the service quality of them in the post-COVID-19 era. Eighty-four logistics personnel in an upper first-class hospital were included in the study, and their working conditions were investigated and analyzed via self-designed questionnaire. 73.8% of all respondents think their work is significantly important to the brand building of the hospital, and 67.9% of them think they are closely related to a harmonious doctor–patient relationship. The compliant rate is higher in security personnel when compared with other personnel and the difference was statistically significant ([Formula: see text]). 94% of the logistics personnel indicate a higher intensity in their work, 39.3% of them constantly face the working pressure and 57.1% come from the risk of infection which accounts for the largest. The largest demand comes for the protective equipment, which is from 69 workers. It would be better for us to pay attention to the hospital culture training and strengthen the sense of identity among logistics personnel of the hospital continuously. Meanwhile we need to enrich the connotation of professional style construction in hospital and promote the efficiency of logistics service. Targeted training is necessary to improve the service capabilities of the security personnel since they receive more complaints. Diversified and personalized support to the logistics personnel based on the grasp of their special demand is also important.

Abstract Covid-19 emergency has forced hospitals to face enormous organizational challenges in order to implement solutions to minimize the impact of the infection and guarantee at the same time the quality of health services provided and the safety of patients and health workers. ULSS 6 Euganea - Health Trust (District of Padua) has defined four levels of risk for Hospital Units (from the highest to the lowest risk: Red, Yellow, Green and White) based on the following parameters: type of patients hospitalized (SARS-CoV-2 positive, Covid-like, negative), type of health services provided, time of assistance and care for hospitalized patient. This risk stratification in the Hospital of Cittadella - ULSS 6 Euganea has been applied to different contexts, such as distribution of personal protective equipment, health surveillance, frequency of cleaning and sanitation. Since February 21 (first confirmed case in Veneto Region), in the Hospital of Cittadella personal protective equipment has been delivered daily to health workers; the quantity and quality of devices provided have been carefully monitored, with particular regard to high-risk settings (Red Areas: Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, Covid Wards, Operating Room, Radiology, swab samples Area, Morgue). The performance of nasopharyngeal swabs has been periodically organized for every health worker, according to the level of risk of their Unit: every 10 days for Red Areas, every 20 days for Yellow and Green Areas, every 30 days for White Areas. The frequency of cleaning and sanitation has been intensified in Red and Yellow Areas, following the guidelines released by the World Health Organization. The definition of four levels of risk for Hospital Units is proving to be a useful and flexible tool in the management of Covid-19 emergency; further research in the next months needs to be made to assess the impact of risk stratification on the different aspects covered (ex. number of health workers infected). Key messages Covid-19 emergency has forced hospital to face enormous organizational challenges to minimize the impact of the infection and guarantee the safety of patients and health workers. The definition of four levels of risk for Hospital Units is proving to be a useful and flexible tool in the management of Covid-19 emergency.
