Background: Social media have become a popular communication system that has transformed communication from the traditional to the Web-based model. Because social media use has no limitations to place and time, it is now used extensively at clinical facilities. Social media useis becoming a popular activity amongst students at Nursing Education Institutions (NEI) in South Africa. However, lack of accountability and unethical use of social media by nursing students in South Africa has been reported. Objectives: The aim of the study was to explore and describe the perceptions of nursing students regarding responsible use of social media. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive, explorative and contextual research design was used to explore and describe the perceptions of nursing students regarding the responsible use of social media. Twelve nursing students registered for the undergraduate nursing degree were purposely selected and interviewed individually using a semi-structured interview method. Results: The results of this research study demonstrate that nursing students use socialmedia irresponsibly. Nursing students experience blurred boundaries between personal and professional lines and lack accountability when using social media. Conclusion: The extensive use of social media in the clinical environment, by healthcare students, requires a joint effort by Nursing Education Institutions and healthcare facilities to ensure that social media are used in an ethically acceptable manner. The implementation of the recommendations of this research study could positively influence legally and ethically acceptable use of social media at healthcare facilities.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the theoretical-practical articulation of the continuous learning of leadership in undergraduate Nursing. Methods: Case study carried out at a Northeast federal public university. For data collection, semi-structured interview techniques, workshops, and document analysis were applied. Forty Nursing students participated in the interviews, and 26 in the workshops. The data were submitted to Minayo’s operative analysis using the Nvivo software. Peter Senge’s concepts were adopted. Results: The students demonstrated a greater understanding of the theme throughout the course and recognized contributing elements to the continuous learning of leadership, such as behavioral characteristics and the use of methodological approaches integrated with theoretical and practical spaces. Final considerations: The teaching of leadership is relevant in Nursing education, and this has been recognized by students, but still requires changes for it to become operational, with an improvement and a theoretical-practical integration of the cultivated experiences, suitable to the reality of the craft.

The article discusses results of research carried out with the aim of analyzing teachers' meanings about professional training, both initial and continuing. The research is based on the ideas of Vigotski and Espinosa about human development, in which two teachers who work in the municipal public network of Teresina-PI participated. The research instruments were a questionnaire and semi-structured interview. The analysis had the nuclei of meanings as a procedure. The analyzes indicate that, if, on the one hand, in the initial training, the appropriate knowledge helped in the professional development of the teachers, on the other hand, the continuing education has collaborated to keep them in a passive situation in the face of educational demands, because they remain dependent to tell them how to act professionally. The results also indicate that continuing education has the potential to remove teachers from the condition of passivity when it collaborates with the development of the conscience of this professional, in short, with their historical development.

Background: The skills in effective communication and critical thinking are essential for nurses to apply appropriate judgments in the delivery of patient care. Classroom debates are evident to be an effective strategy that can be used to improve such skills. Unfortunately, research focusing on classroom debates to promote critical thinking and oral communication skills among nursing students has not been extensively explored.   Purpose: This study aimed to explore nursing students’ views of classroom debates as a learning strategy to enhance critical thinking and oral communication skills. Methods: A descriptive qualitative research design was employed in this study. Twelve students of the undergraduate program in nursing with classroom debate experiences and willingness to participate were purposively recruited for semi-structured interviews. Open-ended questions were used, and probing questions were also generated from the participants to get more detailed information. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using the inductive content analysis. Results: The results of the study identified five themes, including the acquisition of new knowledge, awareness and responsiveness to diverse viewpoints and arguments, learning structuring ideas and appropriate ways of presentation, development of other necessary skills, and challenges of classroom debates in nursing education.  Conclusion: Classroom debates promoted the development of critical thinking and oral communication skills, and offered students an opportunity to develop other necessary skills in the face of today’s complex healthcare. Classroom debates can be integrated into the curriculum and teaching practices of any nursing educational institutions.

The perception that we have about death and dying in our society and the way it is experienced by health professionals can bring important psychic repercussions, especially for those who are closest to patients: the nursing team. Literature often suggests the creation of spaces for speech and/or discussion groups, as a care strategy for these professionals. The present study refers to a qualitative, exploratory and empirical research, whose proposal was to verify, through semi-structured interview, if nursing professionals in a Semi-Intensive Care Center have demands to work on themes related to care of end-of-life patients through an operative group and, according to the results, propose its realization. 21 professionals participated. The interviews were analyzed using the Content Analysis technique, which allowed to list five categories: Frequency; Difficulties; Coping strategies; Established links; Demands for updates and speech spaces. The results showed that the participants considered it necessary a space to talk about their experiences in the context of care for patients at the end of life, however, when it was proposed, it did not have adherence. A number of reasons can be considered about the impediments and difficulties in the implementation of a group with nursing professionals working in intensive care, as the main contingents are issues related to the profession itself, resistance, work overload, the context itself institutional and pandemic, making clear the need for further studies.

Nursing students learn under the responsibility of clinical instructors during their related learning experience (RLE). Generally, nursing students regard their clinical instructors as pivotal sources of foundational knowledge, skills, and values to develop themselves into competent and compassionate nurses. It is usual for them to leverage their expectations of their clinical instructors. The study aimed to uncover and learn from the nursing students’ expectations of their clinical instructors in terms of inductive codes such as teaching strategies, assessment of student learning outcomes, monitoring and evaluating learning progress, recognizing student efforts, professional mastery, and descriptions of ideal clinical instructors. This descriptive qualitative study employed thematic analysis to structured interview transcripts from conveniently sampled nursing students in a private university in the Philippines. During their RLE, the nursing students viewed that i.) clinical instructors utilize various teaching strategies; ii.) variety of assessment techniques are used revealing innate teacher values and some students' undesirable feelings towards their clinical instructors; iii.) limited techniques in monitoring and evaluating students' progress are employed; iv.) students have feelings of being denied of recognition; v.) teacher-student likeness, and some unwanted perceptions on professional mastery are essential; and vi.) caring attributes, cognitive, and clinical competence make up the ideal clinical instructors. The quality of nursing students is as good as the quality of their clinical instructors. Their clinical instructors primarily influence their level of confidence during the RLE. Findings suggest that clinical instructors need to rethink about their practices in ensuring quality instruction and supervision during RLE.

Background: Social media platforms are integrated into the lives of students. Their use in education has been studied, but this research is scarce in nursing. The objective of this study was to develop and validate the questionnaire “Use and views of the social media for nursing education” through a pilot study, to describe the use and attitudes of nursing students to social media. Methods: Cross-sectional design to validate the modified scale “Students’ Use and Views of the Social Media questionnaire.” The sample consisted of 107 undergraduate nursing students. Results: The factor analysis extracted three main components to explain social media use for nursing education, with component 1 being the “Need to use media in my professional training,” component 2—“To deepen my professional knowledge” and component 3 “Contrast information.” High reliability was demonstrated with Chronbach’s alpha value (0.84). Conclusion: The final tool was proven to have high validity and reliability values, so it is positioned as a viable tool to explore this reality. Students use social media for education in a high proportion and have positive attitudes regarding their education inclusion.
