Background:The use of microbial inoculants holds a great promise to improve crop yield without the negative environmental and health hazard associated with chemical fertilizer.Aim:To investigate ifPseudomonasspp. (Pseudomonas kilonensisF113 andPseudomonas protegensCHA0 strains) have promoting effects on vegetative growth and yield of different maize genotypes (viz. AFLATOXIN SYN 4W, TZB-SR, AFLATOXIN R SYN 2Y, AFLATOXIN SYN 3W and AFLATOXIN SYN-2Y) under different soil types.Methods:Both pot and field experiments were employed. Bacterialized seeds were sown (2 seeds/pot/stand).Results:Pot experiment showed that both the bacterial species significantly stimulated the growth of maize shoot length, stem girth, leaf length, root length and root weight. The effect of genotypes AFLATOXIN SYN 4W, TZB-SR, AFLATOXIN R SYN 2Y and AFLATOXIN SYN 3W are not significantly different from one another but AFLATOXIN SYN-2Y showed a significantly lower increase in the measured parameters. No significant difference was observed according to soil types. AFLATOXIN SYN 4W showed a significantly higher root weight while AFLATOXIN R SYN 2Y showed a significantly higher root length compared to the other maize genotypes. Moreover,Pseudomonassignificantly increased maize growth and yield under field experiment. AFLATOXIN R SYN 2Y and AFLATOXIN SYN 4W showed a significantly higher yield than the other maize genotypes studied.Conclusion:We concluded thatPseudomonas kilogenensisF113 andPseudomonas protegensCHA0 are potential biofertilizers.

Field experiments were carried out to study the response of two lentil varieties to varying sowing dates in a split plot design with three replications, in which varieties were assigned to main plots and sowing dates to sub plots. The study was conducted at Enewari research site of Debre Birhan agricultural research center for three consecutive years (2007 - 2009) on two soil types. The results showed that no significant difference between varieties for grain yield. However, variety Alemaya produced highest grain yields of 1.3 t/ha and 1.22 t/ha from fifth (30-July) sowing date on heavy and relatively light Vertisols respectively. On the other hand, the local variety produced highest grain yields of 1.4 t/ha and 1.06 t/ha on the fifth and six sowing dates on heavy and relatively light Vertisols respectively. Grain yield proportionally increased with increasing biological yield in different sowing dates on both soil types. On heavy Vertisol varieties responded differently to the changes of sowing dates. Variety Alemaya had responded to a wider sowing dates. Early August to mid-August sowing found to be optimum for local variety. On light Vertisol, the functional relationship was unexplained for both varieties. In general, heavy Vertisol gave higher responses than relatively light vertisol throughout most parameters and levels tested.

This research was aimed to get the optimum NPK fertilizer dosage with the time of liquid organic fertilizer application to support the growth and yield of pakcoy (Brassica rappa L.). The study used a Randomized Block Design with three replications. Observation variables included plant height, leaf number, leaf area, total plant weight, root length, root weight and total plant weight percentage. The results showed that N0 (without NPK fertilizer) was the best based on the plant height and leaf number. Liquid organic fertilizer given at 3-time applications per plant (W3) contributed significantly to leaf number at 35 days after planting and gave the highest yield of leaves, with 17,45 leaves. The treatment of NPK compound fertilizer dosage with the time of liquid organic fertilizer gave significant effects on the leaf area, total plant weight, root length, and root weight. Keywords: liquid organic fertilizer, NPK, pakcoy   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dosis pupuk NPK dengan waktu plikasi pupuk organik cair yang tepat untuk menunjang pertumbuhan danp roduksi tanaman pakcoy (Brassica rappa L.). Penelitian mengunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Peubah-peubah pengamatan meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, luas daun, berat total tanaman, panjang akar, berat akar dan persentase berat total tanaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan N0 (tanpa pupuk NPK) merupakan yang terbaik dari penelitian ini terhadap parameter tinggi tanaman dan jumlah daun. Waktu pemberian pupuk organik cair 3 kali/tanaman (perlakuan W3) memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan terhadap jumlah daun 35 hari setelah tanam dan menghasilkan daun terbanyak dengan jumlah 17,45 helai. Perlakuan dosis pupuk majemuk NPK dengan waktu pemberian pupuk organik cair memberikan pengaruh yang nyata sampai sangat nyata terhadap luas daun, berat total tanaman, panjang akar serta berat akar. Kata kunci: NPK, pakcoy, pupuk organik cair

Field experiments were conducted during the 2015 and 2016 cropping seasons at the Teaching and Research (T & R) Farm of the College of Agriculture, Kwara State University, Malete, to determine the effect of cropping patterns on weed infestation, growth and yield of a maize/soybean intercrop in the southern Guinea savanna of Nigeria. The experiments consisted of six treatments as follows: one row of maize alternated with one row of soybean (1:1), one row of maize alternated with two rows of soybean (1:2), two rows of maize alternated with one row of soybean (2:1), two rows of maize alternated with two rows of soybean (2:2), sole maize (1:0) and sole soybean (0:1). The treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. Data collected were subjected to analysis of variance and means were separated by the least significant difference (LSD) at the 5% level of probability. Results showed that sole soybean consistently suppressed weeds and resulted in a higher yield. Similarly, the 2:1 ratio of maize to soybean did not only reduce weed density, it produced significantly higher yields of maize and lower yield of soybean, and had the higher land equivalent ratio and economic returns followed by sole maize.

Study the Types and Dosage of Organic Fertilizers of Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz). The research  to observe the development of cassava due to the influence  of cassava based on organic fertilizer. This research was conducted from October 2019 to January 2020, in the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Slamet Riyadi University, Surakarta. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 1 treatment, namely type and dose of organic fertilizers and obtained 10 combinations treatments and each was repeated 3 times. From the research data, analysis of variance will be carried out nd then the real difference test will be countinued with the real Honestly Significant Difference test at the 5% level. In this observation observed included 8 parameters: shoot height, longest root length, number of roots, number of leaves,fresh weight of planted roots, dry weight of planted roots, fresh weight of planting buds, and dry weight of planting buds. The results showed that (1) effect of kinds and dosages of organic fertilizer the effect very apparent in the parameters of the number of planted leaves, number of planted roots, longest root length, dry weight of planted roots, fresh weight of planted shoots and dry weight of planted shoots. Significantly affected the shoot height parameters. No significant effect is found on  the parameters of the fresh root weight of the crop. (2) The dosage of 1.9 kg / polybag (MD7) fertilizer application gave the best results on the dry weight of shoots, 378 grams.

There is significant variation in yield of storage roots and vines of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) among farmers due to use of different cutting positions and pruning of vines at different levels. This study was carried out to establish the cutting position and the vine pruning level that give the best yield of both the storage roots and vines. The study was conducted in a 3x3 factorial arrangement in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Treatments included cutting position at three levels (apical cutting, middle cutting and basal cutting) and pruning at three levels, 0%, 25% and 50% respectively. Pruning was done. 50 days after planting. And storage root harvesting was done 100 days after planting. The two measurements were summed up to give the total vine weight. Storage root length, diameter and weight were measured at 100 DAP. Storage root length indicated significant difference (P<0.05) only among cutting positions with highest mean length (16.20 cm) obtained from apical cutting and the lowest (11.98 cm) from basal cutting. Storage root diameter, storage root weight and vine weight indicated significant interaction (P<0.05) of cutting position and vine pruning level. Highest mean root diameter and root weight were obtained from middle cutting and 25% vine pruning level, with the lowest being obtained from basal cutting and 50% vine pruning level. Highest vine weight was recorded from middle cutting and 50% vine pruning level, with the lowest being recorded from basal cutting and 0% vine pruning level. Both middle and apical stem cuttings can be recommended for higher storage root and vine yield. Vine pruning at 25% can be adopted for higher storage root yield while pruning at 50% can be suggested for higher vine yield.

Abstract Chitosan is a natural heterogeneous polymer, non-toxic and find many potential applications in agriculture. The search of a biopolymer to replace the synthetic agrochemicals, the effects of foliar application of chitosan solution on agronomic performance under field experiments have been investigated in two consecutive harvests (2014/2015 and 2015) of soybean and maize. Two chitosan concentrations (0.5 and 1%) were sprayed four times during the culture development and the evaluation was based on morphological characteristics, growth and yield components. Seeds were collected to determine the content of macro- and micronutrients. Results revealed that most of the morphological and growth parameters (plant height, leaf number per plant) and yield attributes were not increased with the chitosan treatment in soybean and maize. The soybean treated with foliar application of chitosan 0.5% increased the accumulation of nitrogen by 9.14% when compared with the water treatment, but the effect was not consistent in both seasons and cultivars. The values of the other nutrients did not change the content. Maize plants treated with chitosan (0.5% or 1%) significantly decreased the boron concentration by 66.7% in the grains analyzed and may have influenced the plant development (height) without altering the other agronomic parameters. Therefore, whereas the climatic conditions in these two seasons were stable and biotic or abiotic stresses were not observed, foliar application of chitosan solution did not present differences that could establish a pattern of behavior in field experiments conducted by two harvests.

Flamboyant has great ornamental use, because it has beautiful flowers, having a great use in urban afforestation and park ornamentation. The seeds have a low germination rate because they have dormancy caused by the impermeability of the integument. In this sense, the objective was to determine the most efficient method to overcome dormancy in flamboyant seeds. The experimental design was fully randomized with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of: 1-Witness (non-scarified seeds); 2- Hot water at 90º C for 5 minutes; 3- Concentrated sulfuric acid 98% for 60 minutes; 4- Mechanical scarification with sandpaper number 80. The characteristics evaluated were: emergency, emergency speed index, seedling height and root length. A significant difference can be observed in the treatments evaluated only for the emergency speed index where the scarification treatment with sandpaper was higher than the others, for the other characteristics evaluated there was no difference

AbstractData from several field experiments support the existence of a trade-off between number and quality of offspring. However, long term effects of brood size on fitness related traits of offspring have been a relatively neglected area of research. In a laboratory experiment the effect of manipulated brood size on subsequent competitive ability of adult offspring was investigated. Zebra finches, Taeniopygia guttata, were reared in small or large broods and young were exchanged in such a way that natural siblings from different rearing conditions could be compared. Competitive behaviour was assessed in two different contexts: competition for food (both sexes tested) and competition for mates (only males tested). There was no significant difference between males from small and large broods in number of succesfull attacks (after which the other male moved away) during male-male aggressive interactions provoked by the presentation of a female in an adjacent cage. Nor did brood size affect latency to eat, time spent eating or success at displacing the other bird from the feeder during food competition tests. The results thus suggest consistently that later competitive ability of offspring is not affected by brood size in this species.

It is important to be able to predict the yield and monitor the growth conditions of crops in the field to increase productivity. One way to assess field-based geospatial crop productivity is by integrating a crop model with a remote-controlled aerial system (RAS). The objective of this study was to simulate spatiotemporal barley growth and yield based on the development of a crop-modeling system integrated with RAS-based remote sensing images. We performed field experiments to obtain ground truth data and RAS images of crop growth conditions and yields at Chonnam National University (CNU), Gwangju, South Korea in 2018, and at Gyeongsang National University (GNU), Jinju, South Gyeongsang, South Korea in 2018 and 2019. In model calibration, there was no significant difference (p = 0.12) between the simulated barley yields and measured yields, based on a two-sample t-test at CNU in 2018. In model validation, there was no significant difference between simulated yields and measured yields at p = 0.98 and 0.76, according to two-sample t-tests at GNU in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The remote sensing-integrated crop model accurately reproduced geospatial variations in barley yield and growth variables. The results demonstrate that the crop modeling approach is useful for monitoring at-field barley conditions.

Rice plants have been reported to affect methane (CH4) emission from rice fields. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of rice cultivars on CH4 emission from flooded rice and to develop crop management strategies with low emitting rice cultivars while sustaining high yield. The four rice cultivars studied were Memberamo, Cisadane, IR64, and Way Apoburu. The CH4 emissions were determined in the wet season of 2001/2002 (November-February) using an automated closed chamber technique in an irrigated field condition. Farmyard manure at the rate of 5 t ha-1 was given to the plots to ensure carbon was not limited. Root weight, root length, biomass, and number of tillers were determined at 17, 36, and 57 days after transplanting (DAT). The results showed that the mean CH4 emission was highest in the plot planted with Cisadane (94.8 kg CH4 ha-1), and the lowest with IR64 (37.7 kg CH4 ha-1). The plots treated with emberamo and Way Apoburu resulted an intermediate CH4 emission at the average of 61.1 and 58.9 kg CH4 ha-1, respectively. There was no significant difference in yield between the cultivars tested. The yield of Memberamo, Cisadane, IR64, and Way Apoburu were 5.882, 5.764, 5.873 and 6.065 t ha-1, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there were no significant differences in the root weight and root length among cultivars. However, Cisadane gave the highest dry matter weight (222 g hill-1) at 57 DAT compared to the other cultivars (175-190 g hill-1). Plant tillers did not show significant differences between the cultivars. Regression analysis showed that CH4 flux was significantly related with root weight, root length, aboveground biomass, and number of plant tillers. This finding shows that the use of selected cultivars, such as IR64, can potentially lower CH4 emission without scarifying yield.
