Introduction: Estimation of stature plays an important role in forensic anthropometry as it helps in estimating the identity of an individual. Many studies for estimating the stature from measuring long bones, with derivation of formulas are there. The present study is an attempt to evaluate a possible correlation between stature of an individual and foot length in adults. Material and Methods: A sample of 100 medical students; 50 males and 50 females studying in Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences was considered and measurements were taken for height and foot length. Result: It was found that both the parameters showed a correlation with each other. Mathematical formulae for estimating stature were developed through basic linear regression. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the present study has provided regression equations for stature and foot length of an individual that can be used for stature estimation.

Introduction: Stature is one of the most important anatomical parameters for personal identification. Estimation of stature by measuring different parts of the body is valuable in medico legal investigations as well as in anthropology. Objectives: The objective of this study was to find correlation between stature and foot length and developing a regression equation for stature estimation from foot length among medical students of Birat Medical College & Teaching Hospital, Morang, Nepal. Methodology: This is cross sectional study conducted at Department of Anatomy of Birat Medical College & Teaching Hospital, Morang, Nepal from 15 March 2019 to 15 June 2019. Two hundred (100 male and 100 female) medical students were enrolled in the study. Stature and foot length were measured using standard instruments. The collected data was entered into Microsoft excel and analyzed by using SPSS. Results: The mean stature in male was 165.4 cm with SD of 8.46 cm, in female the mean stature was 156.5 cm and with SD 6.56 cm. The mean foot length in male was 25.84 cm with SD of 1.73 cm, in female mean foot length was 23.35 cm with SD 1.30 cm. This gender wise difference in mean stature and foot length between males and females was statistically significant (p<0.001). There was significant positive correlation between stature and foot length (r = 0.534, P < 0.001) for male and (r=0.675, P < 0.001) for female. Regression equations were derived for estimation of stature from measurement of foot length in both sexes. Conclusion: This research found significant positive correlation between stature and foot length in both sexes. Regression equation was also derived which help to predict the stature by knowing the foot length in medico legal cases.

Abstract Background and objectives Stature estimation is an initial and essential component of any medico-legal investigations. However, it becomes more challenging when only skull remains are available. So, the goal of this study is to assess stature estimation using cranial multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) images in a sample of the Egyptian population. Methods This clinical study was conducted on 150 Egyptian subjects underwent cranium MDCT with age ranged from 21 to 60 years. The measurements used were maximum cranial breadth, minimum frontal breadth, upper facial breadth, bizygomatic breadth, orbital height, orbital breadth, parietal chord, bimastoidale, maximum cranial length, basion-bregma height, cranial base length, and basion-prosthion length. Results The results revealed that stature and craniofacial measurements of males were significantly higher than those of females, all measurements were significantly positively correlated with stature in pooled cases, but the correlation coefficient differs in separate sex. Simple linear regression for stature estimation showed that the least standard error of estimate (SEE) values for the regression equations obtained when using bizygomatic breadth in pooled cases (7.9 cm) and in males only (5.7 cm), while in females using parietal chord had the least SEE (6.8 cm). Using multiple and stepwise regression analysis reported lower SEE values than simple linear regression analysis. Conclusion On the basis of this study, it is concluded that the cranial measurements obtained from MDCT images have limited utility in stature estimation among Egyptians, but could be used as an alternative method in cases where the best predictors, such as long bones, are not available.

Stature estimation is important for forensic identification, particularly in dismembered body. The equation used to estimate the height of a population is not necessarily applicable to other populations (population spesific). This study was conducted to generate the linear regression equation for stature estimation based on foot length and foot breadth on the population in the city of Bandung.  This cross-sectional study is conducted to 908 people, consisting of three age groups (children, adolescents, adults), in the city of Bandung. Sampling was done by multistage sampling. The stature was measured using a stadiometer SECA 213, right foot length (RFL), right foot breadth ( RFB), left foot length (LFL), and left foot breadth (LFB) were measured using sliding calipers. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 21.0 for Windows. There is correlation between height with the RFL, RFB, LFL, and LFB. In contrast to the group of teenagers and adults, there is no boys-girls difference between height, RFL, RFB, LFL, and LFB. 21 regression equation for stature estimation based on the foot size. Stature estimation can be done using the linear regression equation based on the foot length and foot breadth, according to population, gender, and age of the subject being examined. Key words: height estimation, foot length, foot breadth

Background: Stature of an individual can be estimated from long bones as these have a direct correlation to the height of an individual. The standing height is mostly contributed lower limb length. Hence regression equations which are best upon length of lower limb long bones are indicative very much. Secular differences of tibial length could be the reason for need of more accurate equation of stature estimation among Bengali population.Methods: In this present study the maximum percutaneous tibial length and the corresponding standing height of adult 260 male and 210 female Bengali subjects were taken. The data were analyzed by parametric statistics and the regression equations were derived.Results: The mean standing height of subjects was 159.15 cm in males and 157.12 cm. in females. It was determined that percutaneous tibial length and stature were positively correlated; the formulated regression equations were seen to be statistically significant (p <0.05) in both the sexes.Conclusions: The present study revealed that there is high degree of correlation between percutaneous tibial length and standing height of Bengali subjects. Hence applicability of the present equations is critically discussed as these will be very much useful for various practical aspects.

Introduction: Height determination by measuring various body parts is of value in medicolegal investigations as well as in anthropology. The current study was conducted to analyze interrelation between foot dimensions and stature, and to predict stature from foot dimensions. Methods: The study was done in medical students where stature, foot length, and foot breadth were quantified using standard instruments. We calculated correlations between variables with correlation test and predicted stature from foot length and foot breadth using linear regression. Results: The correlation between foot length and stature, and foot breadth and stature were statistically significant in both gender (p < 0.05). Greater correlation coefficient between foot length and stature than that for foot breadth and stature indicated stronger correlation between foot length and stature. Separate formulae were drawn for calculation of stature from foot breadth and foot length by regression analysis. Conclusion: Both foot breadth and foot length were correlated with stature. Foot length was found to be a better predictor of stature.

Abstract Background The estimation of the stature of human beings is a major part of medicolegal investigation when only body parts are found. The study aimed to estimate the stature from different handprint measurements in a Bangladeshi population using statistical considerations. A sample of 200 young Bangladeshi adults (100 men and 100 women) with no physical disabilities participated in this study. Stature and seven anthropometric measurements were measured using standard anthropometric measurements. The bilateral asymmetry was tested using the independent t test. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient (R) between the stature and different handprint measurements was calculated. Consequently, the simple and multiple linear regression models were developed to estimate the stature from the handprint measurements. Results The bilateral asymmetry was statistically not significant (p > 0.05) in right and left handprints. Sex difference significantly (p < 0.05) influences the relationship between stature and handprint measurements. A positive and strong coefficient of correlation (R) value presents between stature and the handprint measurements. The right 2nd digit length in men (R = + 0.709, R2 = 0.502, SEE = ± 44.141 mm) and the right handprint length in women (R = + 0.552, R2 = 0.305, SEE = ± 49.074 mm) were the most reliable estimator of stature. However, when data were combined for both sexes, the right handprint length was identified as the most reliable estimator of stature with higher values of R (+ 0.777) and R2 (0.603), and a lower value of SEE (± 55.520). Multiple regression equation showed greater reliability than linear regression equations in stature estimation from handprint measurements in Bangladeshi population. Conclusions It was concluded that the estimation of stature from handprint measurements is possible and reliable. The findings of this study are very useful from the forensic and medicolegal point of view and can use to estimate the stature in Bangladeshi population.

A possibility of determining the anthropometric parameters of a killed person may be of crucial significance to identify bone remains, especially, when detecting the short tubular bones of the foot. This study is based on a research of roentgenogrammetric measuring parameters of the foot bones and their relationships with the foot length. As a result, linear regression equations have been developed for reproducing the length of the foot based on the length of the metatarsal bones.

With the use of regression and dispersion analyzes conducted in this study it was possible to identify predictive factors that significantly worsen the prognosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma in adolescents however constructed regression equations did not pass the quality assessment of the models, which did not allow them to be used for the construction of point and interval predictions. In a cohort of patients enrolled in the study a risk-adapted treatment program based on the risk group for stratification was conducted. Negative aspects of the results of our study could be related to the already selected volume of the program for these patients. In turn our analysis proves the validity of the selection of therapeutic loads (a number of cycles of polychemotherapy, doses of radiation therapy) depending on the risk group, into which the adolescent is stratified.

Abstract Background Self-medication is defined as using medicinal products to treat the disorders or symptoms diagnosed by oneself. Although informed self-medication is one of the ways to reduce health care costs, inappropriate self-treatment can pose various risks including drug side effects, recurrence of symptoms, drug resistance, etc. The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice of pharmacy and medical students toward self-medication. Methods This study was conducted in Zabol University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Overall, 170 pharmacy and medical students were included. A three-part researcher-made questionnaire was designed to address the students’ knowledge, attitude, and practice. Statistical analysis was performed in SPSS 25 software. Results According to the results, 97 (57.1%) students had carried out self-medication within the past 6 months. Overall, the students self-medicated on average 4.2 ± 2.9 times per year. Self-medication was more common in male students (65.4%, P = 0.043). Cold was the most common ailment treated with self-medication (93.2%), and antibiotics (74.4%) were the most commonly used drugs. The primary information sources used by the students were their previous prescriptions (47.4%). Pharmacy students had a higher level of drug information (P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant association between the level of drug information and the tendency for self-medication (P = 0.005). Disease recurrence was the most common negative complication of self-medication. Conclusion There is a need to educate pharmacy and medical students regarding self-medication and its side effects. The high prevalence of self-medication and the overuse of antibiotics can pose a significant risk of drug resistance.

Based on analysis of appropriate literary sources we established that estimation of fire separation distances was based of two criteria: heat flux and temperature. We proposed to use “ignition temperature of materials” as principal criterion when determining fire separation distances between adjacent construction facilities. Based on the results derived while performing complete factorial we created mathematical model to describe trend of changing fire separation distances depending on caloric power of fire load (Q), openings factor of the external enclosing structures (k) and duration of irradiation (t); moreover, its adequacy was confirmed. Based on linear regression equations we substantiated calculation and tabular method for the determination of fire separation distances for a facility being irradiated which contains combustible or otherwise non-combustible façade and a facility where liquid oil products turn. We developed and proposed general methodology for estimation of fire separation distances between construction facilities by calculation.
