Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan: (1) Nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang termuat dalam novel Bridge to Terabithia dan Island of the Blue Dolphin (2) Sejauh mana novel-novel tersebut dapat dijadikan bahan ajar Bahasa Inggris bermuatan pendidikan karakter. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode analisis isi. Penelitian kualitatif mengungkapkan gejala secara menyeluruh, dan sesuai dengan konteks permasalahannya dipecahkan melalui pengumpulan data dari latar alami dengan memanfaatkan diri peneliti sebagai instrumen kunci (Djukri dkk, 2010, p.18). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Novel Bridge to Terabithia dan Island of the Blue Dolphin memberikan penggambaran contoh nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dengan frekuensi dan variasi yang tinggi juga dengan kualitas penggambaran yang kuat dan realistis, (2) Kedua novel memiliki bahasa yang imajinatif dan kisah yang inspiratif, (3) Kedua novel relevan dengan tujuan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA AND ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHIN AS INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL EMBODYING CHARACTER EDUCATION Abstract This study aims at describing: (1) Character education values embodied in the novel Bridge to Terabithia and Island of the Blue Dolphin, (2) The extent to which those novels can be utilized as English instructional material embodying character education.  This study is a descriptive qualitative research, which employs content analysis method. Qualitative research describes the entire indications based on the context of the matter which is solved through collecting data of natural context employing the researcher as key instruments (Djukri dkk, 2010, p.18).The results of the study show that: (1) Bridge to Terabithia and Island of the Blue Dolphin give examples of high frequency and high variation as well as strong and realistic description of character education values, (2) Both novels have imaginative language and inspirational story, (3) Both novels are relevant to English teaching and learning objective.

This research was motivated by the problem of being able to find the values of character education in the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The purpose of this study is to describe the values of character education in the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. This research is a qualitative research using content analysis method. The object of this research is the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The data in this study are words, phrases, sentences and discourses which are the values of character education. The data source in this research is the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The data techniques used are reading novels, marking data related to the value of character education, recording data, making inventory, and classifying. The results of this study indicate that there are ten values of character education found in the novel Gunung Ungaran. In addition to the value of character education, other character education values are also found, such as: 1) religious, 2) Tolerance, 3) Work hard, 4) Independent, 5) Curiosity, 6) Love the homeland, 7) Friendly/communicative, 8) Caring for the environment, 9) Social care, 10) Responsibility.Keywords: Education, Character, Novel.

This study aims at describing the character education values embodied in the novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari. The novel is chosen due to the character values that can be a reflection of students to apply in daily life. As the object of the study is the stories of this novel which contains the character education values. This study is a descriptive qualitative research in which the data in this study are in the form of words. The data used in the form of a narrative dialogue between characters in the novel. The technique used is the content analysis method. For the data validity of this research uses theory triangulation, method triangulation, and data triangulation. The data analysis technique used is the analysis of the Flow model by Miles and Huberman (2012) through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, as well as withdrawal conclusions. The theory of character education values refers to the Thomas Lickona theory which consists of ten character education values. However, this study is more focused on the value of hard work. The results of this study show that regarding the character education values, novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari gives examples as well as description especially for the value of hard work which contains eleven values quoted from the novel. Also, the novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari is representative enough as literacy learning, especially for a novel containing character education.

The aim of this research is to obtain a deep understanding of character education in And The Mountains Echoed Novel written by Khalid Hosseini. This research used qualitative approach, content analysis method, through structuralism and  semiotics study. Structurally, character education in this novel found in the theme, the plot, the characters and characterization, and the setting. Semiotically, the researcher found semiotics signs in And The Mountains Echoed novel relating to the character education, namely, index, symbol, and icon. The data were collected through a carefull reading of the novel, identification, and classification. The values taken are the combination between character education value from Pusat Kurikulum Balitbang Diknas and Lickona’s. However not all values are captured, among the 28 values, only thirteen caught from the novel. The values are hard working, religious, responsible, love, integrity, social care, never give up, thanks be to Allah, appreciating achievement, wisdom, creative, curiousity, and friendly/communicative. From the structure of the novel, the character education implemented explicitly and implicitly in the theme, the character and characterization, the setting, and the plot. While from the semiotics, the character education mostly found  in the form of index, followed by symbol,and then icon.

The purpose of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the author's worldview in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabiela Rais and Rangga Almahendra and the implication in teaching literature. This qualitative research uses the content analysis method through a structural genetic approach. Data collection using library study techniques. The validity of the data to get the credibility of the data is used triangulation techniques. Based on the results of the study showed that the author's worldview represents his group of beliefs that are disturbed by the negative views of other groups that are not the same as their beliefs. The picture of the life of the American social community through stories has inspired the author about how to convey Islam correctly to people who do not understand it. As Muslims, they are obliged to defend the truth of Islam that has been misinterpreted. The author's worldview also confirms that due to terrorist acts in the name of Islam, non-Muslim communities criticize it and always blame Moslem.

<em>The aims of this research are to describe: (1) the use of diction in the lyrics of the song album Don’t Make Me Sad by Letto; (2) the existence of imagery in the lyrics of the song Don’t Make Me Sad by Letto; (3) the dominant style of language in the lyrics of the song album Don’t Make Me Sad by Letto; (4) the value of character education in the lyrics of the song album Don’t’ Make Me Sad by Letto; and (5) the relevance with the teaching materials of literature for senior high school students. This research is descriptive qualitative research using content analysis method. The source of data in this research is the lyrics of the song album Don’t Make Me Sad by Letto and the result of interview with informants. The technique of taking the sample used in this research was purposive sampling. The technique of collecting the data in this research was data analysis and interview with the informants. This research uses source triangulation and method triangulation to validate the data. The researcher uses interactive analysis method in this research. </em>

Starting from the phenomenon of Indigo children who seize the attention of the people in several countries, including in Indonesia, the uniqueness of Indigo children becomes distinctive for Indigo children compared with other children in general. The uniqueness of Indigo children can be described by authors in literary works, such as novels. In addition, the uniqueness of Indigo children revealed in a novel can be used as a renewal in teaching novels reviewed using the literary psychology approach. The study of psychology in literature is an important thing to do with the aim of developing a way of teaching literature. However, the study of psychology in literature is still very less. In addition, research on Indigo children in literary works has never been done. In dealing with this problem, qualitative research using content analysis method with a literary structural approach and literary psychology of novel entitled “Gerbang Dialog Danur” written by Risa Saraswati was conducted. The result of the research is the phenomenon of Indigo children described by the main character, that is Aku (Risa). In addition, this study also produced findings, namely the types of Indigo children and how to deal with them suggested in the novel. The results of this study conclude that Indonesian literary teachers, literary researchers, novel readers, parents, and the general public can use the novel Gerbang Dialog Danur by Risa Saraswati in the process of teaching literature, especially in the study of psychology.

The purpose of this research is to gain a deep understanding: 1) The novel structure consisting of theme elements, plot, background, characterization and the message contained in J.K. Harry Potter novels Rowling. 2) The values of character education that include mindset, behavior, attitude, creativity and interest in J.K. Harry Potter's novels Rowling. And 3) The values of character education are viewed from the structural angle of hermeneutics contained in J.K. Harry Potter's novels. Rowling. This research uses qualitative approach with content analysis method, through hermeneutic study based on textual hermeneutic and cultural hermeneutic. The findings of the overall research values of character education in J.K. Harry Potter's novels Rowling's review of hermeneutic studies consisted of: the pattern of pikers amounted to 46 or 58.9%, attitudes amounted to 68 or 94.35% behavior 51 or 53.7%, interest amounted to 30 or 44.6%, and creativity amounted to 42 or 48, 5%. Based on the above data can be concluded from the three of Harry Potter's novels by J. K. Rowling the most is the attitude amounted to 68 or 94.35%. In the development of the story in J. K Rowling's Harry Potter novels emphasizes attitude. Meanwhile, the value of education as the least interest emerging amounted to 30 or 44.6%.

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to comprehend the language comprehensively in the novel "Key Eye” by HELLA S. HAASSE. This research uses qualitative research with content analysis method. Data were collected through speeches of characters in novels, observations, and recordings. Analysis and interpretation of data shows that politeness in the speech of the character in the novel “Key eye by HELLA S. HAASSE" divided into positive politeness and negative politeness, as well as the maxim according to Geoffrey Leech. These findings can be a recommendation for students to understand the comprehensive politeness by reading the novel "The Key Eye by HELLA S. HAASSE” as an alternative source of learning on politeness. This research is also recommended to the next researcher to use this research as a reference in his research.Key words: Politeness, Maxim, Novel, Content analysis.

This research is conducted to identify the idiom and its types in JoanneKathleen Rowling’s novel entitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as wellas strategies used to translate them in the translation versionThe data of this descriptive qualitative research are idiomatic expressionsfound in the novel and its translation in Indonesian language. Documentationis used to collect the data. The data of this research are phrases or sentencesthat contain idiomatic expressions. Meanwhile, content analysis method isapplied for analyzing data in relation to their contexts. The result of this research shows that 140 idioms in 13 types were found in theEnglish novel from chapter 15 to chapter 17. Those thirteen types are phrasalverb (61.43%), prepositional phrase (13.57%), semi-opaque idiom (7.86%), noun phrase (5%), clause idiom (4.29%), idiom of comparison (2.86%), miscellaneous (1.43%), proverb (0.71%), adverb phrase (0.71%), adjectivephrase (0.71%), idiomatic pairs (0.71%), and simile (0.71%). Furthermore, there are three translation strategies used by the translator. Theyare translation using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, paraphrase, and omission. The researcher found that paraphrase is thehighest number with 134 idioms (95.7%). The second strategy is translation byusing an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form with 5 idioms (3.59%). Theless strategy used by the translator is translation by omission with only oneidiom (0.71%). It can be concluded that paraphrase is the most preferredstrategy used by the translator. It was used because she wants to deliver themessage of the text as natural as possible by using the most equivalentmeaning of the idiom in Indonesian

This research aims to describe the character education value reflection through characters' depiction in Oka Rusmini's novel Koplak. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The approach used in this research is psychological. The data collection technique used was a documentary study. The data source in this research is the novel Koplak by Oka Rusmini. This study's data are character education value reflections through the depiction of the character in the data source, that is Koplak novel by Oka Rusmini. The data were collected using the reading technique and note-taking technique. The data analysis uses an interactive-analysis method. This study results indicate that there are reflections of character education value through the character depiction in Oka Rusmini's novel Koplak, namely honest, caring, and attention.
