The result presented in the frequency and percentage. There were 71 couples participated in this study. The result showed that 75.4% of premarital couples have never heard about thalassemia. Only 46.5% of premarital couples have a good knowledge toward thalassemia. Moreover, 40.8% respondents know the right definition about screening. However, more premarital couples did not know that thalassemia could be prevented by premarital screening that they were. This volume seeks to initiate a new interdisciplinary field of scholarly research focused on the study of right-wing media and conservative news. To date, the study of conservative or right-wing media has proceeded unevenly, cross-cutting several traditional disciplines and subfields, with little continuity or citational overlap. This book posits a new multifaceted object of analysis—conservative news cultures—designed to promote concerted interdisciplinary investigation into the consistent practices or patterns of meaning making that emerge between and among the sites of production, circulation, and consumption of conservative news. With contributors from the fields of journalism studies, media and communication studies, cultural studies, history, political science, and sociology, the book models the capacious field it seeks to promote. Its contributors draw upon a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods—from archival analysis to regression analysis of survey data to rhetorical analysis—to elucidate case studies focused on conservative news cultures in the United States and the United Kingdom. From the National Review to Fox News, from the National Rifle Association to Brexit, from media policy to liberal media bias, this book is designed as an introduction to right-wing media and an opening salvo in the interdisciplinary field of conservative news studies.

Abstract Essential nutrition action (ENA) is one of the most effective preventive actions for combating nutritional problems in young children. There is, however, a paucity of evidence about mother's knowledge and attitude regarding key ENA messages. The objective of the present study was to assess the knowledge and attitude of mothers towards key ENA messages and associated factors. A representative sample of 563 mothers of children from birth up to 24 months in mainly rural North Ethiopia was included in the study. The findings showed that 66⋅4 % of the mothers have a good knowledge and 68⋅9 % have a good attitude. In the multivariable analysis using logistic regression, mothers who attended secondary school or higher education were six times more likely to have a good knowledge (AOR 6⋅1; CI 2⋅945, 12⋅719) compared with those who are illiterate. Besides, women who resided in an urban area (AOR 2⋅2; CI 1⋅14, 4⋅25), attended antenatal care (ANC) visits (AOR 3⋅7; CI 2⋅421, 5⋅742), attended postnatal care (PNC) visits (AOR 2⋅2; CI 1⋅37, 3⋅4) and heard nutritional-related information (AOR 1⋅9; CI 1⋅14, 3⋅49) were found to have a good knowledge. On the other hand, mothers who attended ANC visits were almost four times (AOR 3⋅9; CI 2⋅7, 5⋅8) more likely to have a good attitude towards key ENA. Mothers who delivered at health institutions and who attended PNC visits were also more likely to have a good attitude. In conclusion, the present study determined the level of knowledge and attitudes of mothers about ENA and several factors that influence mother's knowledge and attitude regarding ENA.

Background: Early detection of diseases in newborn may help in early intervention and treatment, which may either cure the disease or improve the outcome of the patient. Dubai’s Health Authority has a newborn screening program which includes screening for metabolic and genetic conditions, for hearing and vision, and for congenital heart disease. Objectives: The objectives of this study are to assess the outcome of the newborn genetic screening program, to correlate the association between the outcome of the program and demographic variables and to find out the percentage of the number of infants who were confirmed to have the genetic disease (by confirmatory tests) out of the total infants who had positive screening test results. Methods: During the period of the study from January 2018 to December 2018, a total of 7,027 newborns were tested in Dubai Health Authority facilities by the newborn genetic screening program (known as the “Step One Screening”). Blood samples were collected by heel prick on a collection paper. All samples were transported to PerkinElmer Genomics in the USA where the tests were done. The genetic disorders identified were correlated with different variables like gender and nationality. The data were entered in an excel sheet and analyzed by using SPSS software. All infants aged 0–3 months who have done newborn genetic screening at Dubai Health Authority facilities between January and December 2018 were included. Results: The incidence of screened disorders was 1:7,027 for congenital adrenal hyperplasia, 1:1,757 for congenital hypothyroidism, 1:1,757 for inborn errors of metabolism, 1:2,342 for biotinidase deficiency, 1:1,171 for hemoglobinopathies, 1:12 for hemoglobinopathy traits, and 1:10 for different genetic mutations of G6PD deficiency. Conclusions: There is a high incidence of different genetic diseases detected by newborn screening. These results justify unifying the program in the UAE and preventive programs like premarital screening and genetic counseling.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibilities and the growth prospects of medical tourism in Greece, while particularly focusing on the dialysis process. Patients with end-stage renal failure have the right to any treatment deemed necessary during their journey to another city or country away from the place where their treatment normally takes place. Design/methodology/approach The survey has been conducted among 193 kidney disease patients that underwent extra-renal dialysis in two public and three private artificial kidney units in Thessaloniki. The study population consists of patients with end-stage chronic renal failure (CRF) that undergo dialysis. For the purpose of this study, quantitative research was carried out via a structured and anonymous questionnaire. The design and structure of the study were based upon questionnaires from two relevant questionnaires. The questionnaires were modified appropriately to respond to the subject in question. Finally, for the analysis of the data, the SPSS software has been used. Findings One of the most obvious results is that patients on dialysis treatment have limited both the frequency and the duration of their vacation. The 8.3% of patients that did not use to travel increased to 37.8%, whereas only 22.3% continue to travel 2–4 times a year. Patients that keep on going on vacation frequently claim that a break from the daily routine improves their quality of life. Most of the participants (up to 36.3%) claim they feel healthier, while 34.2% stated they experience a normal life when they escape their everyday life and travel far from home. The 69.9% claim that Greece has the potentials to be a popular medical tourism destination. However, a well-structured and government-financed assistance programme is absent. The processing of data has revealed a positive correlation between age and tourism behaviour. Additionally, according to the research results, younger patients tend to be better informed regarding medical tourism in comparison with older ones. Social implications Considering the patients to be potential travellers facilitates the development, realization and promotion of medical tourism. Originality/value This study attempts to investigate, for the first time, the tourism behaviour of chronic kidney disease patients. The study highlights a sensitive issue, patients’ right to treatment without geographical or distance-related obstacles.

We describe a case of a 52-year-old male presenting with severe mucopurulent conjunctivitis of the right eye. Corneal ulceration and associated anterior chamber activity was noted later in the course of the disease. Neisseria gonorrhoeae was positive on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing earlier than traditional microscopy and culture. He was successfully treated with ceftriaxone 500 mg intravenously and azithromycin 1 g orally as single doses in addition to ofloxacin ophthalmic solution 0.3% hourly to the right eye. This case highlights the need to consider the possibility of gonococcus in cases of suspected bacterial conjunctivitis, careful monitoring for corneal involvement and the importance of early detection with PCR.
