Abstract: The English language is considered the world’s most spoken language, being characterized as the communication and international relationships language. The number of people who speak this language has been increasing, and the need of knowing it precisely became a part of most of these people, so they search for lessons during their adulthood, to upgrade themselves in the business market. This need comes from the low encouragement received when it comes to bilingual education during the childhood, and this reality hits when we compare the public and private schools education, when one offers this type of education during the elementary school, and the other only introduces it from the late years in elementary school. With this in mind, the present article named “The English language teaching during the kindergarten: the gap between public and private school.” is focused in analyzing how the English language was introduced here in Brazil, and also verify the differences between the English education of private and public schools, being aware about the importance and benefits of learning a second language during the childhood. This article is based in works from authors like Santos (2011), Rossato (2012), Kumaravadivelu (2013), constituting a bibliographical research, using the qualitative method to formulate the article. From the above during this article, it was possible to conclude that children, from their curiosity, are more favorable to learn new things, so the introduction of the English education starting in their kindergarten it’s fundamental to develop interest for a new language. Thus, it was also essential to note that the differences between public and private educational institutions are factors that make working with English difficult, due to the high or low importance it receives in each institution. It appears that the English language should be more valued especially with regard to its relevance within society, which implies that the earlier it is started in schools, the more valid the knowledge acquired from it will be, and therefore the ideal is to start their learning process still in childhood, together with the Portuguese language. Keywords: Public School, Private School, Teaching, English Language, Childhood.

The Critical Period Hypothesis by Lenneberg (1976)  states that ages 2 to 12 are ideal ages for achieving foreign language skills such as a native speaker. Based on this hypothesis, the perfect time for children to learn English as a foreign language is in elementary school. Meanwhile, Indonesian government policy through the 2013 curriculum does not require children in primary schools to learn English. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the English learning achievement of students between those who studied and those who did not study English in elementary school. This research is important to be conducted since it can be a reference for the Indonesian government in developing English language teaching and learning policy in elementary schools.  The sample of this research consisted of two groups selected through a purposive sampling technique. They were the groupS of students who studied and who did not study English in elementary school. Data were grouped, presented, and then compared. The results showed that students who studied English in elementary school had better English learning achievement than students who did not study English in elementary school. It is recommended for further related researches to consider many factors those can be influencing the students' English learning achievements such as the English teaching and learning method used by the educators in high school and university, attitudinal factor, and the learning environment.

English serves as a bridge of communication for the people from all over the world as it plays an increasingly crucial role in the process of globalization. In accordance with English curriculum standards issued by the Ministry of Education in 2011, the ultimate goal of English language discipline is to communicate. But over these years, China’s English education has been difficult to get out of the dilemma of “Dumb English”. When facing the real oral communication situations, students are still too nervous to speak with a great deal of fluency and accuracy. Therefore, the present study aims to explore the relationship between English language anxiety, gender, years of English learning and final oral English achievement by inviting 41 English major freshmen of foreign language departments of Nanchang Business College. For this purpose, this study adopts a reliable Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale developed by Horwitz and Cope (1986) to measure students’ anxiety. The results reveal that anxiety levels between males and females are similar; there is also no significant difference among years of learning English; however, a significantly negative correlation between college students’ foreign language anxiety and their oral English learning achievement was found.

The English language is one of the international languages used for communication and learning worldwide. In Vietnam, English is taught as a second language in schools from elementary to advanced levels. In learning a certain foreign language, the autonomy of learners has become a vital subject for the past 30 years. This research surveys the autonomy of non-language-major-students in learning English in Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. The quantitative research method uses descriptive statistics and T-test. A group of 258 students (61 males and 197 females) took part in answering two questionnaires on learners' autonomy in learning English and the roles of lecturers and students in developing learner-autonomy in learning English. The results showed that the students were not familiar with the term learning autonomy. However, students were aware that they played a fundamental role in improving this ability. They also believed that the lecturers determined their English learning process. Thence, we propose solutions for the non-language-majors to improve their autonomy in learning English.
