This research is motivated by students' chemical mastery in learning is still low, especially for abstract concept/theory material. This can be seen from students being less active and lacking memory in following the learning process.  In addition, schools only rely on textbooks that make students less interested in learning and there is no student workbook to support students' understanding. This research aimed at knowing the appropriateness of the instructional media design in the form of Probing-Prompting based student workbook on Periodic System of the Elements lesson.  It was administered at State Islamic Senior High School 1 Pekanbaru.  It was R&D (Research and Development) with 4-D model, and it was limited to 3 models—define, design, and development.  The subjects of this research were the experts of material, the experts of media, and the experts of language, Chemistry subject teachers, 10 students at the tenth grade of MIA 1.  The object was Probing-Prompting based student workbook on Periodic System of the Elements lesson.  The research findings showed that Probing-Prompting based student workbook was appropriate to be used and it was based on the results of validity and practicality levels.  The percentage of validity level obtained was 85.78% (very valid) and the practicality level was 85.33% (very practical).  Based on theses results, it could be identified that Probing-Prompting based student workbook could be tested further.

Abstract The integration between English language learning and character values is paramount to improve student achievements include cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. Yet, the implementation of this integration has insufficient results.  Therefore, this research aimed to develop English learning materials integrated with character values. The research design was research and development (RnD) developed by Borg and Gall and modified by Sugiyono with 4-D (define, design, develop, and disseminate) model. The research was conducted at grade VII of  State Junior High School 4 Pekanbaru. The techniques of collecting data were questionnaire, interviews, and observation. The module was validated by experts and practitioners. The data were analyzed both quantitative and qualitative by concerning 3 aspects: content (english learning materials and character values), media design, and practicality. Based on research findings, the module was practical (79%) and very valid in terms of media design (86%) and content (95%). Hence, this module can be used as an assisting tool for students not only to understand and practice the language, but also develop their attitude in communication.

This research was a quasi-experiment instigated by the low of student character building. This research aimed at knowing the effect of implementing character building through guided inquiry strategy on electrolyte and non-electrolyte solution material at state senior high school 9 pekanbaru that characters studied were honesty, responsibility, cooperation, discipline, and curiosity. Purposive sampling was used in this research, and there were two classes of samples selected that the tenth grade of Natural Science 4 was as the experimental group taught by implementing Character Building through Guided Inquiry strategy and Natural Science 3 was as the control group taught by using discussion, question and answer methods. This research was conducted for three meetings. Documentation and observation were the techniques of collecting the data. T-test was used to know the research findings of student communication skill. Final data processing results showed that tobserved was 2.19 and ttable was 1.99, and it revealed that tobserved was higher than ttable. Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. There was an effect of implementing Character Building through Guided Inquiry strategy on Electrolyte and Non-Electrolyte Solution material at State Senior High School 9 Pekanbaru, and its coefficient effect was 5.86%.

The ability to speak in English is one of the requisite skills for vocational high school students majoring in hospitality training. However, most tenth-grade students manifested insufficient skills in speaking English, which resulted in low confidence in speaking. To cope with the challenge, the researchers implemented modified role-play and guided writing to stimulate students in speaking English in classroom action research. The procedure of the research consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The researchers employed observation, questionnaire, documentation and field notes in collecting the data. The research findings presented that the students’ motivation to practice their speaking had increased significantly. Thus, the researchers conclude that role-play and guided writing can be used as a communicative activity where students can simultaneously practise and improve their proficiency in communicating. The researchers also propose suggestion to fellow English teachers to effectively manage the time as well as engaging media to create an enjoyable atmosphere in the teaching-learning process through role-play and guided writing.

Students were very difficult to communicate with other people in English effectively. English was learned as a foreign language (EFL) in this country and Indonesian EFL students rarely speak English in their daily lives. English conversation class was taught by no particular book for both teacher and students. This failure was solved by developing an appropriate teaching material for English conversation class at the tenth grade of Islamic Senior High School, which covered conversational guide selection and the used of instructional media. It also aimed at activating the English conversation class. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) design. The data were collected through observation, interview, and questioners and analyzed using a guideline analysis, while the data of the students’ questioners were analyzed using tally system to find the percentage. The subjects of this study were the students of MA Al Karimi Gresik. There were 90 students of the tenth grade students. The material development started with writing material selected from the syllabus and follows CLT principles. The final product was the conversation material for Islamic Senior High Students. It also contained rubric assessment to record the students speaking progress both psychomotor aspect and affective aspect. The product contained Indonesian translation and no answers. Hopefully, the students could be active in responding the questions at the conversation classroom activity. The researcher wanted the English teacher understand the concept of CLT so that he could become the guide, trainer, advisor, and actor who can control the class.
