A comprehensive study of anatomical-functional peculiarities of the cranial bones promotes implementation of new methods of performing radical and reconstructive-restorative surgery on the face and cranium. Objective: to determine peculiarities of formation of the hard palate folds structure in the fetal and early neonatal periods of human ontogenesis. Materials and methods. The study was conducted on 53 specimens of dead fetuses from 4 to 10 months of development and on 9 specimens of dead neonates by means of macro- and micro-section, preparing histological and topographic-anatomical sections, and morphometry. Formation of the hard palate folds during the second and third trimesters of the intrauterine development was found to consist of the following stages:  epithelial thickening, penetration into the adjacent mesenchyme originating the rudiment of the fold; smoothing of the basal membrane and epithelial outgrowth over the surface with formation of the primary fold; condensation of mesenchyme cells under the fold apex; formation of fibrous stroma inside of the fold which is a peculiar core; epithelial smoothing to even thickness similar to that one embracing the areas between folds with formation of the final fold. At the end of the third trimester of the intrauterine development posterior transverse palatine folds become less marked, some of them disappear, and the anterior ones become more marked, closer and pressed one to another.

Finding anatomical variability of organs, structures and their parts at all the stages of human development is rather topical. Determination of organometric parameters of the hard palate in fetuses and newborns is an essential part for perinatal diagnostics and understanding real parameters of the norm and pathology. Purpose of the study is to find organometric parameters of the palatine maxillary process and horizontal lamina of the palatine bone during fetal and early neonatal periods of human ontogenesis. By means of adequate anatomical methods of examination the study was conducted on 53 specimens of dead fetuses from 4 to 10 months of fetal development (from 165.0 mm to 500.0 mm of the parietal-calcaneal length (PCL)) and 9 specimens of dead neonates. The length of the palatine maxillary process during the perinatal period was found to be characterized by the two periods of accelerated development (5-7 and 8-10 months), and the period of relatively slow development (7-8 months). Its width was found to be characterized by the two period of accelerated development (5-7 and 9-10 months), and relatively slow development (7-8 months). The length of the horizontal lamina of the palatine bone is characterized by the period of accelerated development from 8 to 10 months, and the period of relatively slow development from 7 to 8 months. Meanwhile 5-8 and 9-10 months were the periods of accelerated development for its width, and 8-9 months – the period of relatively slow development for it. During fetal and early neonatal periods of human ontogenesis the value of all the paired correlation coefficients between organometric parameters of the palatine maxillary process (hard palate) and horizontal lamina of the palatine bone are positive and rather close to 1 (>0.84), which is indicative of a close positive correlation between all the organometric parameters. Very strong relation is found between the length of the hard palate and its width in the right and left (r=0.92), between the length of the hard palate and palatine bone (r=0.97), between the length of the palatine bone and the width of the hard palate in the right (r=0.91) and in the left (r=0.90). Therefore, by means of adequate anatomical methods of examination new scientifically substantiated data are obtained concerning organometric characteristics of anatomical structures of the hard palate at all the stages of perinatal period.

Mouse mesenchyme was grafted into chick embryos to investigate the control of mesenchymal expression of Msx-1 in the developing limb and face. In situ hybridization, using species-specific probes, allows a comparison between Msx-1 expression in the graft and the host tissue. The results show that Msx-1 expression in both limb-to-limb and face-to-face grafts corresponds closely with the level of Msx-1 expression in the surrounding chick mesenchyme. Cells in grafts that end up within the host domain of Msx-1 express the gene irrespective of whether they were from normally expressing, or non-expressing, regions. Therefore Msx-1 expression in both the developing limb and the developing face appears to be position-dependent. Mesenchyme from each of the three major facial primordia behaved in the same way when grafted to the chick maxillary primordium. Reciprocal grafts between face and limb gave a different result: Msx-1 expression was activated when facial mesenchyme was grafted to the limb but not when limb mesenchyme was grafted to the face. This suggests either that there are quantitative or qualitative differences in two local signalling systems or that additional factors determine the responsiveness of the mesenchyme cells.

Glycopolymer compounds make up structural and functional basis of cells and tissues of a living organism. The necessity of anatomical-lectinohistochemical examination of the parotid gland in early prenatal period of ontogenesis is substantiated, as the evidences concerning its topography are fragmentary and not systematized, and certain aspects of its ontogenesis are disputable. 35 human embryos and pre-fetuses aged from 21 days to 12 weeks of intrauterine development were examined. Glycopolymers were found by means of treatment of serial sections with lectins conjugated with horseradish peroxidase. The dynamics of prenatal morphogenesis of the embryos and pre-fetuses of the 4th-12th week of embryogenesis expression of glycopolymers – lectinreceptors on the surface of cells, in the cytoplasm and on the basal membrane of the parotid gland epithelial germs and the human oral cavity with its derivatives by re-distribution of glycopolymers are similar, which can be the evidence of ectodermal source of the parotid gland epithelial germ. Immersion of the epithelial cells of the buccal-alveolar pockets into the lower adjacent mesenchyme with the formation of primary parotid gland germs in embryos with 11,0-12,5 mm of PCL and their transformation into the epithelial taeniae is associated with accumulation of sialic glycopolymers (N-acetyl neuraminic acid), N-acetyl-D-glucosamine – specific to Wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) and Sambucus nigra agglutinin (SNA); N-acetyl-2-desoxy-2-amino-D-glucopyranose, screened by sialic acid of ß-D-galactose and α-L-fucose – specific to Helix pomatia (edible snail) agglutinin (HPA),  Rhizoctonia solani agglutinin (RCA) and Laburnum anagyroides (Golden Rain shrub) agglutinin (LABA) respectively. These glycopolymers are present during the first 12 weeks both on the cytolemma of the cells of the parotid gland epithelial germ and in their cytoplasm.   The results of lectin-histochemical examination of the early prenatal ontogenesis of the parotid gland can form the basis for the work of laboratories dealing with screening of morphological material in order to assess the degree of maturation and prognosis of fetus viability and diagnostics of deviations from normal development.

The report provides new materials on the Kazakh winterings of the 19th - early 20th centuries, located in the eastern regions ofCentral Kazakhstan. Winterings were built using stone, wood and adobe bricks, and at present they are represented only by ruins of varying preservation. Winterings is a type of poorly explored sites. Currently, the need to develop a methodology for their comprehensive study is especially growing. It is important to carry out work to identify and permanently fix these sites. Winterings belong to the category of rapidly decaying sites, most of them have already disappeared from the face of the earth. According to the author, the Kazakh winterings mark the locations of the settlements of the Saka time and very often they overlap the sites of ancient dwellings. Among the new data, such facts were noted in the tracts ofDosbolay, Mauke, Malmak, Tungatar. In modern studies of the ruins of Kazakh winterings, old photographs and paintings stored in the funds of museums can be used as important additional materials. The fundamental problem of precision medicine is the division of the population of sick and healthy people into separate individuals, differing in the likelihood of disease occurrence and the ability to respond to various types of therapy. This is mainly due to the individual, constitutional features of the structure, including the dentoalveolar system. The introduction of a constitutional-typological approach in a comprehensive study of the human dentition is an important task of modern dentistry, since it allows one to determine the characteristic morphological and functional characteristics of each individual individual to improve the methods of diagnosis and treatment of dentoalveolar pathology. The article examines the morphometric features of the dentoalveolar system in people with brachypalatinal («wide» and «low») type of palatine vault, as well as their relationship with the shape of dental arches and the size of the inter-incisal angle at a physiological occlusal norm. As a result of the study, the following regularity was determined: the brachypalatinal type of the palatine vault corresponds to «wide» dental arches of the brachygnathic type with an inter-incisal angle of more than 145 degrees. The value of the brachypalatinal index of the palatine fornix, as the ratio of the height of the palate to its width, exceeds 45 percent, and the gnathic index of the dental arches is 0.59 ± 0.03. The data obtained can be used in the clinic of orthodontics, orthopedic dentistry, maxillofacial surgery to assess the parameters of the hard palate, diagnose pathological forms of the palatine fornix and determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

The combination of speech therapy and dentistry is increasingly becoming a necessary tandem in identifying anomalies of the dentoalveolar system in the early stages of development of the speech apparatus. It is very important to pay attention to risk factors during pregnancy, because it is during the period of intrauterine development of the fetus that deviations from the normal structure of the body occur, leading to various anomalies. This is due to many factors. The main ones include the ecological situation, social status, quality of food and water, as well as the working conditions of a pregnant woman. According to statistics, the number of detected congenital maxillofacial anomalies has doubled over the past 40 years. According to the WHO, the frequency of such cases is 1.6 per 1000 newborns, ranking second after heart defects. Sometimes parents do not pay enough attention to such important aspects as the location of the tongue in the oral cavity, the degree of tension and involvement of the muscles of the face and neck, the length of the frenum in the child’s oral cavity, which directly affects the sound production, speech production, facial symmetry and aesthetics of a smile. This article presents the main methods of speech therapy in working with patients with dental anomalies, as well as additional diagnostic methods to identify concomitant pathologies. Due to the timely detection of various anomalies, a dentist surgeon, using the extensive capabilities of modern dentistry, is able to significantly improve the quality of life of a child. This is one of the provisions for the prevention of serious complications regarding the dentition, which can affect the general development and health of the child.
