Textbook is one of learning components that plays an important role in determining the success of learning. Textbook as a media and one of main resources in the learning process has a strategic role to be developed to improve the quality of learning and cultivate religiosity of the students. The cultivation of religious characters will be effective, efficient, and interesting if the available textbooks are combined with the Islamic education and characters contents. Those contents will create religious atmosphere and familiarize the students in practising their religiosity in everyday life. In this way, the competency of Islamic education and characters are combined with the competency of other subjects that are packaged in a learning experience. Thus the Islamic values will be formed in students characters.

AbstractIn the first decades of the twentieth century, classically trained Muslim scholars (`ulama) of the influential Deobandi school of North India issued a number of immensely popular, mass-printed ‘primers’ on Islamic belief and ritual practice. Now ubiquitous in the Islamic bookshops in South Asia and elsewhere, these primers sought to summarize the rudiments of an Islamic education for a nascent lay Muslim reading public. Focusing on three Deobandi`ulama—Ashraf `Ali Thanvi (d. 1943), Mufti Muhammad Kifayatullah (d. 1952), and Muhammad Manzur Nu`mani (d. 1997)—this paper explores how their primers advanced the Deobandi school's well-known critique of popular piety even as they claimed to address Muslims generally, and how their authors negotiated the subtle dynamics of print. Understanding the potentially subversive power of print to open a space for readers to form their own interpretations of minute doctrinal matters and the threat of mass-printed religious texts to their own authority, these`ulamaimplored readers to refrain from forming their own opinions of the primers’ content and to consult the`ulamathroughout the reading process. Thus, even as they took advantage of print's possibilities, they remained deeply suspect of its ramifications.

The relevance of the theology of the liberation of Asghar Ali Engineer with the aim of Islamic education, with the following formulations: first, education must be able to humanize humans (humanism). Second, Education must be able to liberate people (Liberation), Education at least able to free humanity from three things. Third, education that makes humans capable of realizing Rahmatan Lil Alamin Islam means that education must be able to restore separate human personality in the bondage of materialism dogma that denies human values and is able to restore humanity to its glorious degree, namely through the approach to God Almighty One.

Pegon script actually is the result of "hard work" of efforts to "reconcile" the letter of the culture that was at first considered foreign (Arab-Islamic) with the local culture, especially the language of the local/indigenous (vernacular language). Now, practices of Pegon script can be said of a shift in usage habits. The practice Pegon script initially suspected rolling as a means of spread and transmission of Islamic knowledge, then it took place as an instrument of islamic education (literacy) in islamic students (santri) society, then it also turned increasingly popular and wider scope in the practice for the daily communications. However, in this era of Latin script, pegon script can be said to be marginalized in the corner of the specific socio-cultural environment, and has failed to return “to play” in the global arena, and tend to be replaced with Latin letters that dominate the world of typography practices.
