Arabic pegon script or pegon script is the term of a few Hijaiyah/Arabic letters that is generally modified and used to write in Malay and Javanese. In Madura, East Java, Pegon script is used for the writing in the language of Madura and other languages, such as Java language. Unfortunately, practices of writing with Arabic typography Pegon in everyday life today, especially in the area of Madura, still as though vague, because the practice of typography around the world still dominated by "regimes" in Latin script. Pegon script as the focus of typography, is seen as an instrument to realize the visual language. Visuality of language in the form of Pegon script involving practices of language (Madura language). Pegon script actually is the result of "hard work" of efforts to "reconcile" the letter of the culture that was at first considered foreign (Arab-Islamic) with the local culture, especially the language of the local/indigenous (vernacular language). Now, practices of Pegon script can be said of a shift in usage habits. The practice Pegon script initially suspected rolling as a means of spread and transmission of Islamic knowledge, then it took place as an instrument of islamic education (literacy) in islamic students (santri) society, then it also turned increasingly popular and wider scope in the practice for the daily communications. However, in this era of Latin script, pegon script can be said to be marginalized in the corner of the specific socio-cultural environment, and has failed to return “to play” in the global arena, and tend to be replaced with Latin letters that dominate the world of typography practices.

The issue of renewal will always be associated with the advancement of science and technology as well as the changing demands of the times. Modernization or renewal can be an attempt to improve the situation both in terms of ways, concepts, and a set of methods commonly applied in order to deliver better circumstances. In the context of renewal education is the absolute thing to be done because part of maintaining the existence of education itself. Islamic education is uniquely different from other types of educational theory and practice largely because of the all-encompassing influence of the Qur’an. The renewal of Islamic education is an attempt to actualize the great values of religion in the form of an empirical and historical life. Nurcholis Madjid and Kuntowijoyo are two great Islamic thinkers of Indonesia who seek to actualize Islamic values in everyday life. Although not specific in the world of education, but what is done in Islamic renewal can be used in renewal in education. The values of religion that are still normative and subjective must be transformed into theories that can be translated in the empirical world and become objective. This paper aims to explore the thinking of Islamic renewal of these two figures and find its relevance to the development of Islamic education.

Abstract. The Islamic education, Islamic boarding schools and madrasas, have made a very significant contribution to the implementation of education and social reform. Through the teaching process, in which the kyai as the main figure and the use of the ‘yellow book’, traditional Islamic ideas colored the early days of growing awareness as a nation and a State. When the New Order government carried out the development and modernization of society, there was a revival of a Muslim group called the “new middle class santri”, which took place in line with the modernization that occurred in the traditional Islamic educational institutions of the pesantren. Then in the era of democratization, the world of Islamic education experienced growth and development in various religious institutions and styles. Most of the pesantren are still committed to maintaining a moderate religious style, recognized as the foundation for the development of civil society and the formation of a ‘distinctive’, friendly, moderate, and tolerant social-political identity of Indonesian society. The Muslim character is different from other regions, especially the Middle East which is the axis of the Islamic world. However, a small proportion of pesantren are thought to promote the growth of religious chauvinism, teach a ‘narrow’ interpretation of Islam and provide a framework of thought and action in responding to socio-political change which often takes the form of a ‘jihad’. This article tries to explore the contribution of Islamic education to social change in the Indonesian Muslim community. Abstark.

Islam is a religion that has prophetic mission, namely rahmatan lil ‘alamin, blessing to universe. To realize this mission, Islamic education must able to produce outputs that have inclusive character, pluralist, and appreciative to pluralism. Pluralism in Islam not only normatively supported by religious texts, but also on praxis-empiric level. Islam also has practiced life orientation that reflected religious plurality. Therefore, on global scale, acknowledgment to religious plurality became essential and significant matter. To realize this, it’s urgently needed wisdom to suppress emotional and radical attitude on everyday life.

Abstract Experiences of absence are common in everyday life, but have received little philosophical attention until recently, when two positions regarding the nature of such experiences surfaced in the literature. According to the Perceptual View, experiences of absence are perceptual in nature. This is denied by the Surprise-Based View, according to which experiences of absence belong together with cases of surprise. In this paper, I show that there is a kind of experience of absence—which I call frustrating absences—that has been overlooked by the Perceptual View and by the Surprise Based-View and that cannot be adequately explained by them. I offer an alternative account to deal with frustrating absences, one according to which experiencing frustrating absences is a matter of subjects having desires for something to be present frustrated by the world. Finally, I argue that there may well be different kinds of experiences of absence.

Abstract: Islamic education institutions in Indonesia face two challenges, namely; internal and external. Internally, Islamic education is faced with the classic problem of the low quality of human resources in education management. The causes include poor quality and education staff development and selectivity of education personnel. Furthermore externally, Islamic education institutions faced three major issues; globalization, democratization, and liberalization. The issue of globalization that is identical with market orientation and mechanism also affects the world of education. That way in education also includes awareness about how to attract and convince the community of the type and model of education. From here, the education world is ready or not ready to be involved in competition to gain public trust. To face these challenges Islamic Education institutions must maximally manage and empower all elements of management in the management of educational institutions. A good understanding of the elements of management can have an impact on the readiness of educational institutions to manage their institutions well in any condition to be the best and foremost.
