The aim of the study is to describe the titles of Latvian metal music albums, from the perspective of content, by identifying the common and distinctive character of the metallic music tradition, and perhaps even the local one. Of 241 album titles (data on Dec. 31, 2019), most are in English, some in French, Latin, Russian, some consisting of digits, and 69 titles in Latvian. These titles are the subject of the research. The main source is Encyclopaedia Metallum (www.metal-archives.com), which still does not reflect the current situation concerning Latvian metal music. Album titles in this study are viewed separately from album designs and song titles and are analysed from the perspective of content. The album title is an important part of the work that has been issued because it is an element that makes the audience/buyer pay attention to the album because it must not be forgotten that today the album is also an item that you want to sell. In general, it can be concluded that Latvian metal musicians, with their album titles in Latvian, are mostly following world trends, as evidenced by the integration in the researcher Deena Weinstein’s classification of Dionysian discourse and discourse on chaos. Most titles are more relevant to the discourse on chaos because the thematic circle of chaos is wider. Latvian mythology, along with history, is an up-to-date source for the creative work of bands that is responsible for the local feeling of the titles. A large enough number are titles that are difficult to fit in the Weinstein’s division and form the third group with philosophical titles and simply all sorts of titles. If the philosophical titles follow the world’s trends, the simple titles include the names of the events, tributes, and the titles of literary works, which give them a local character.

New technologies reaching out for meeting the needs of an aging population in developed countries have given rise to the development and gradual implementation of the concept of an autonomous vehicle (AV) and have even made it a necessity and an important business paradigm. However, in parallel, there is a discussion about consumer preferences and the willingness to pay for new car technologies and intelligent vehicle options. The main aim of the study was to analyze the impact of selected factors on the perception of the future of autonomous cars by respondents from the area of Southeastern Poland in terms of a comparison with traditional cars, with particular emphasis on the advantages and disadvantages of this concept. The research presented in this study was conducted in 2019 among a group of 579 respondents. Data analysis made it possible to identify potential advantages and disadvantages of the concept of introducing autonomous cars. A positive result of the survey is that 68% of respondents stated that AV will be gradually introduced to our market, which confirms the high acceptance of this technology by Poles. The obtained research results may be valuable information for governmental and local authorities, but also for car manufacturers and their future users. It is an important issue in the area of shaping the strategy of actions concerning further directions of development on the automotive market.

ENTITIES INVOLVED IN THE ORGANISATION OF COMPETITIONS FOR MANAGERIAL POSTS: LEGAL ISSUES Summary The article discusses the legal issues associated with the competition method of selecting management staff. Under the current legal provisions in Poland many legal acts pertain to this issue, giving an inhomogeneous set of regulations for the principles of conducting such procedures in particular domains of public, social and economic affairs. The subject of the first part of this paper is the analysis of the concept of competitions for managerial posts and the classification of the procedure for the competitive selection of management staff based on various criteria. The author also points out the main advantages and disadvantages of competitions held for managerial posts. The second part of the paper describes the entities directly involved in the organisation of competitions for management staff, and indispensable for the running of such competitions. In my opinion the analysis of the legal acts which regulate this issue allows for the distinction of two essential categories of entities directly involved in the process of competitive management appointments. On the one hand this means those organisers who are responsible for initiating the whole procedure and who make the final decision on the appointment. On the other hand there is the competition commission, which has a significant influence on the effectiveness of the competitive selection of management staff.

This chapter focuses on the question of choice-of-law and delineates its common thread within contemporary private law choice-of-law rules. In particular, it demonstrates that despite the variety of names and titles, one can point to three cornerstone developments within the contemporary choice-of-law doctrine, which all can be traced to different degrees of divergence within the various systems. The first development is a relaxation within the classical classification of the subject according to the presence of the so-called ‘foreign element’ in the factual matrix of the case. The second development is the advances of the so-called ‘party autonomy’ principle according to which the parties can agree on the identity of the applied law. Finally, the third development is the advances of the so-called ‘most significant relationship’ (MSR) principle according to which courts are required to assess the factual situation of a case as a whole and to evaluate the significance of the various factors relative to the degree of their connectedness to the particular liability event and the litigating parties. Given the failure of the systems to agree on unification of the substantive law, the chapter then highlights the need for harmonization of choice-of-law relating to negotiable instruments.

Abundant supplies of oil form the foundation of modern industrial economies, but the capacity to maintain and grow global supply is attracting increasing concern. Some commentators forecast a peak in the near future and a subsequent terminal decline in global oil production, while others highlight the recent growth in ‘tight oil’ production and the scope for developing unconventional resources. There are disagreements over the size, cost and recoverability of different resources, the technical and economic potential of different technologies, the contribution of different factors to market trends and the economic implications of reduced supply. Few debates are more important, more contentious, more wide-ranging or more confused. This paper summarizes the main concepts, terms, issues and evidence that are necessary to understand the ‘peak oil’ debate. These include: the origin, nature and classification of oil resources; the trends in oil production and discoveries; the typical production profiles of oil fields, basins and producing regions; the mechanisms underlying those profiles; the extent of depletion of conventional oil; the risk of an approaching peak in global production; and the potential of various mitigation options. The aim is to introduce the subject to non-specialist readers and provide a basis for the subsequent papers in this Theme Issue.

Attention has been recently directed to the remarkable division of the octave into 22 intervals, employed by the Hindoos. The paper commences with a slight account of the Hindoo scales as thus derived. It is then remarked that our best way to a real analysis of this music would be to study the system of 22 and compare the results with those actually obtained by Hindoo musicians. The methods which have been employed in the writer’s former paper on the subject are then extended to the higher orders, which have not been before thoroughly discussed. The system of 22 is a system of the second order; and the nature and peculiarities of such systems, and of the system of 22 in particular, are discussed. A classification of systems of the higher orders according to their mode of forming thirds is advanced. If the system be arranged in successive series of fifths, differing by one unit in pitch, then the system is said to be of class x, if the third of any note is in the series units below that which contains the note itself.

We review Fermi's paradox (or the 'Great Silence' problem), not only arguably the oldest and crucial problem for the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence (SETI), but also a conundrum of profound scientific, philosophical and cultural importance. By a simple analysis of observation selection effects, the correct resolution of Fermi's paradox is certain to tell us something about the future of humanity. Already more than three quarters of century old puzzle and a quarter of century since the last major review paper in the field by G. David Brin has generated many ingenious discussions and hypotheses. We analyze the often tacit methodological assumptions built in various answers to this puzzle and attempt a new classification of the numerous solutions proposed in an already huge literature on the subject. Finally, we consider the ramifications of various classes of hypotheses for the practical SETI projects. Somewhat paradoxically, it seems that the class of (neo)catastrophic hypotheses gives, on the balance, the strongest justification to optimism regarding our current and near-future SETI efforts.

The subject of the article is the typology of national security, and controversial issues of the selection. The purpose of the article is to identify causes of a large number of security’s forms both in theory and in practice, also to analyze acts in this sphere. The methodology of the article includes analysis, synthesis, formal-legal and comparativelegal methods. The main results of the research. The author focuses on the problem of types of national security. The author investigates the national security and methodological, theoretical and legal aspects of the classification of national security’s forms. The reason for the diversity of types of national security should also be recognized as the lack of a clear classification of them. Author investigates the mechanism for detaching forms of national security in acts of the Russian Federation in the field of security and suggests that new forms of nation security (moral security and culture security) should appear in base document of strategic planning of the national security. Moral security includes cultural, ideological, informational, psychological, scientific, educational, and religious security. Cultural security in its most general form is the stable existence of culture, the protection of this sphere from internal and external threats, for example, such as the emasculation of spiritual and moral values and globalization. Conclusions. The identification of new types of national security is an objective process due to the very versatility of such a phenomenon as national security. At the same time, it should be recognized that the sphere of spirit and morality in the context of spiritual security does not belong to the legal science, but rather to the field of philosophy and religion. In this regard, their inclusion, even as an adjective, in the text of the strategic planning document raises doubts, so the use of the phrase "moral security" in legal acts in the near future, in our opinion, can hardly be expected.
