Roundabouts have faced a huge development in terms of designing and operation, the reason behind that is to get the most safe and functional design. The functionality is affected by different factors e.g. line width, diameter of the roundabout etc., when the capacity of the roundabout is fully utilized, queue length starts to form in the different approaches, which indicates of a minor or major issue that should be studied. This paper discusses the different factors affecting the queue length of an approach on the roundabout (Al Falah roundabout), after obtaining the data, regression analysis was done to provide a model that can be used for estimating the volume capacity ratio from queue lengths or vice versa. Two other methods were used to compare the obtained model (HCM 2010 Method and Two Minute Rule Method), in addition to a field data collection of the actual timing needed to pass that queue length, which was assigned as the true value of the models and comparing depending on it. Finally, the discussion of the term paper, will include the different concepts of advanced statistical analysis, the will (as expected) contain different types of distributions and the coloration between the keys of the roundabouts design, and will study the limitation and how it can be improved in future.

Currently, manufacturing is characterized by increasing complexity both on the technical and organizational levels. Thus, more complex and intelligent production control methods are developed in order to remain competitive and achieve operational excellence. Operations management described early on the influence among target metrics, such as queuing times, queue length, and production speed. However, accurate predictions of queue lengths have long been overlooked as a means to better understanding manufacturing systems. In order to provide queue length forecasts, this paper introduced a methodology to identify queue lengths in retrospect based on transitional data, as well as a comparison of easy-to-deploy machine learning-based queue forecasting models. Forecasting, based on static data sets, as well as time series models can be shown to be successfully applied in an exemplary semiconductor case study. The main findings concluded that accurate queue length prediction, even with minimal available data, is feasible by applying a variety of techniques, which can enable further research and predictions.

ABSTRACTThe Scottish Hydrometric Network consists of a number of river gauging stations which have been located at sites considered suitable to provide long term flow records. Economic recession has placed some stress on the gauging programme, and has given rise to extensive closures of gauging stations in England and, to a minor extent so far, in Scotland. The way in which the network became established provides a mixture of strengths and weaknesses which could have unpredictable consequences in an adverse economic climate. Changing technology provides some opportunity to reduce the cost of data acquisition and improve the deployment of manpower, while maintaining data standards. In these changing circumstances, particularly with extensive use of computer systems, it is important that standards are established for data returned to the Water Archive and that the network is not allowed to degenerate by default.

In a series of column experiments lasting for approximately 1500 pore volume, the effects of operational factors (flow rates, sand admixtures) and water quality factors (concentrations of DO, sulfate, phosphate and bicarbonate) on bromate removal capacity of zerovalent iron were investigated. The bromate removal capacity, obtained from migration of concentration profiles, was observed to decrease with increases in flow rate. In the case that 20 wt-% iron was replaced by sands, the bromate removal capacity increased, but, on the contrary, the bromate removal capacity inevitably decreased when the weight percentage was increased by two times. Dissolved oxygen played a minor role in decreasing the bromate removal capacity, this decreasing effect only prevailed near the proximal end of depassivating irons. The bromate removal capacity increased in the presence of 100 mg/L sulfate concentration but decreased when the sulfate concentration further increased. When comparing the effect on removal capacity for phosphate and sulfate, the inhibiting effect of phosphate on the bromate removal capacity was larger. Lastly, the removal capacity increased with increasing bicarbonate concentration, which may due to the formation of aqueous complexes.

Queue length estimation is of great importance for signal performance measures and signal optimization. With the development of connected vehicle technology and mobile internet technology, using mobile sensor data instead of fixed detector data to estimate queue length has become a significant research topic. This study proposes a queue length estimation method using low-penetration mobile sensor data as the only input. The proposed method is based on the combination of Kalman Filtering and shockwave theory. The critical points are identified from raw spatiotemporal points and allocated to different cycles for subsequent estimation. To apply the Kalman Filter, a state-space model with two state variables and the system noise determined by queue-forming acceleration is established, which can characterize the stochastic property of queue forming. The Kalman Filter with joining points as measurement input recursively estimates real-time queue lengths; on the other hand, queue-discharging waves are estimated with a line fitted to leaving points. By calculating the crossing point of the queue-forming wave and the queue-discharging wave of a cycle, the maximum queue length is also estimated. A case study with DiDi mobile sensor data and ground truth maximum queue lengths at Huanggang-Fuzhong intersection, Shenzhen, China, shows that the mean absolute percentage error is only 11.2%. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis shows that the proposed estimation method achieves much better performance than the classical linear regression method, especially in extremely low penetration rates.

The combination of panel data regression consist of time series data, it was collected based on a characteristic at a certain time (cross section). This research aimed to analyze the affecting factors and dominant factors of Dengue Hemoragic Fever (DHF) cases in East Java using panel data regression. This research uses secondary data published by the East Java Provincial Health Office, namely the Health Profile and the East Java Provincial Statistics Agency such as documents of each Districts/City in Numbers of East Java on 2014––2017 using total research population that were collected in all districts/cities in East Java Province. The data of new cases of DHF and factors affecting the incidence of DHF including clean and healthy living behavior in the household, poverty, population density, rainfall in East Java on 2014––2017. Panel regression analysis is used to determine the best model of the CEM, FEM and REM using Chow test, Hausman test and Langrange Multiplier test. Based on the results, the best model of panel regression is FEM with affecting variables such as poverty, population density, and rainfall.

ObjectiveTo evaluate pharmacists’ knowledge, perceptions and practices towards generic substitution in the 11 pilot locations in China.DesignAn online cross-sectional survey using questionnaires was conducted. A convenience sampling technique was implemented to recruit pharmacists.Setting and participantsThe study took place in medical institutions of 11 pilot locations that participated in the pilot national centralised procurement programme in 2019. Two thousand two hundred and ninety-one pharmacists including hospital pharmacists or community pharmacists based on health-systems or clinics participated in the study.ResultsMost of the participants had the good knowledge of requirements for evaluating the quality and efficacy of generic drugs (n=2118; 92.4%), and the definition of generic drugs (n=2078; 90.7%). In terms of perceptions, 67.3% of respondents were of the opinion that generic drugs are equally as effective as the brand-name drugs, and 69.0% of respondents were of the opinion that generic drugs are as safe as brand equivalents. A high percentage of participants supported the policy of generic substitution (n=1634; 71.4%). A significant positive correlation was demonstrated between total knowledge score and total perception score (ρ=0.267; p<0.001). Efficacy, safety and the direction of national policies and hospital regulations were the main factors affecting pharmacists’ willingness to dispense generic drugs.ConclusionsThe study identified gaps in respondents’ knowledge and perceptions of generic substitution. Pharmacists who are more knowledgeable in generic drugs tend to hold a more supportive attitude towards generic substitution. Although it appeared that pharmacists in China have largely accepted generic substitution, they still have concerns regarding the reliability and quality of generic drugs. The current issues need to be addressed for the realisation of the true value of generic drugs as part of the country’s healthcare cost-containment strategy as well as the implementation of generic substitution policy in China.

This study analyzes factors affecting net interest margin of joint-stock commercial banks in Vietnam. The paper uses the secondary data of 26 banks with 182 observations for the period of 2008–2014 and applies the panel data regression method. The empirical results indicate that lending scale, credit risk, capitalization, and in-terest rate have positive impacts on net interest margin. In contrast, managerial efficiency has a negative effect on net interest margin. However, bank size and loan to deposit ratio are statistically insig-nificant to net interest margin.

Isomers of hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) and metabolites of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) are still frequently detected worldwide in considerable amounts, even decades after their prohibition. Carbonaceous materials (CMs) have been shown to significantly reduce risks of propagation to humans by binding the hydrophobic organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) present in aquatic sediments. In the present study, black carbons extracted from natural sediments, and artificially produced black carbons, including black carbons by burning rice straw at 450 and 850 °C, and a commercial activated carbon were compared to investigate the factors affecting the sorption of γ-HCH (lindane) and p,p’-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (p,p’-DDE) on CMs. The results indicated that when the proportion of CMs to total organic carbon (ƒCM/ƒOC) was greater than 0.35, CMs played a leading role in the sorption of lindane and p,p’-DDE by the sediments. The sorption contribution rate of CMs could reach up to 64.7%. When the ratio of ƒCM/ƒOC was less than 0.10, CMs played a minor role in the sorption. In addition, the nonlinearity of the sorption isotherms was strengthened with the increasing the proportion of CMs to total organic carbon. Our findings show that ƒCM/ƒOC value is a principal parameter for assessing the sorption capacity of sediments added by CMs for OCPs.

SUMMARY Objective To evaluate the socio-demographic profile, path to medical school admission and factors affecting the choice of becoming a physician in Brazil. Method Application of a structured questionnaire to 4,601 participants among the 16,323 physicians who graduated between 2014 and 2015 that subsequently registered with one of the 27 Regional Boards of Medicine (CRMs). Results The average age of participants is 27 years, 77.2% are white, 57% come from families with a monthly income greater than ten times the minimum wage, 65% have fathers who have completed higher education, 79.1% attended a private high school, and 63.5% selected the “will to make a difference in people’s lives or do good” as their main reason for choosing medicine, with some differences between the sexes and matriculation at a public or private medical school. Conclusion The recent politics for educational diversity and the opening of additional medical schools has not yet had an impact on the socio-demographic profile of graduates, who are mainly white, wealthy individuals.

A method estimating the queue length in city street networks was proposed using the data of roll time occupancy. The key idea of this paper is that when the queue length in front of the queue detector becomes longer, the speeds of the following vehicles to pass through the detector will become smaller, resulting in higher occupancy with constant traffic intensity. Considering the relationship between queue lengths and roll time occupancy affected by many factors, such as link length, lane width, lane number, and bus ratio, twelve different conditions were designed, and the traffic data under different conditions was obtained using VISSIM simulation. Based on the analysis of simulation data, an S-type logistic model was decided to develop for the relationship between queue lengths and roll time occupancy, and the fitting equations were obtained under the twelve simulation situations. The average model for the relationship between queue lengths and roll time occupancy was presented by successive multiple linear regression with the fitting equation parameters and simulation parameters, and the estimation model for queue length was presented through analyzing the equation of the average relation model.
