ABSTRACTAnalyse of soil chemical properties in the encriment of oil palm production on sandy soil at Selangkun oli palm plantationSoil is one of basic components in the development of oil palm plantation. Limitation of land causes many companies expand their areas to the sub-optimal land, such as sandy soil. This research was aimed to analyzed chemical soil properties and its relation with bunch number and bunch weight in oil palm plantation, Arut Selatan sub-district, Central Kalimantan. Survey was made in sample points that were determined based on grid system, and each sample was taken in the depth of 30 cm. This research was descriptive and used double regression equation with backward-stepwise method. Several parameters have been analyzed, such as pH, organic carbon, CEC, total N, total P, P-availability, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn, Mn, and B. The result showed that the pH was categorized acid, macro nutrients were medium to very low, except total P and P-availability, while micro nutrients were enough, except boron which had very high amount. Furthermore, statistical analysis showed that some chemical properties, such as total N, CEC, and exchangeable Al were parameters which influenced production of bunch number per oil palm plant. Keywords: Oil palm, Soil nutrient, Sandy soilABSTRAKTanah merupakan salah satu komponen dasar dalam pembangunan perkebunan kelapa sawit. Currently, large oil palm plantations are cultivated on ultisol. Ultisol has various constraints in its utilization for the cultivation of plants, because it has high exchangeable Al, low pH, low soil organic nutrient contained, and soil nutrients such as N, P, K, Ca, Mg.  Large quantities and continuous fertilizer are needed for a long time. To solve these problems required to look for alternative fertilizers. These alternative fertilizers are expected to reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers without decreasing production and are available forever. Efforts to produce that location organic matter are the right choice. Tithonia can be grown in the form of alley cropping at young palm plantations. A series of experiments have been conducted at Andalas University experimental farm in Padang, West  Sumatra Province. This study used the Factorial design.  The treatments are tithonia compost and Lime application. There are 3 rd compost doses in 3 replication each treatment. The experimental obtained that tithonia compost dosage 25% and 50% + 25% and 50% synthetic fertilizer were changed soil chemical properties such as increased 0.94 units soil pH, availability of nutrient contained; 6.22% C-organic, 0.25% N-total, 0.37me/100g   exchangeable K, 2.74 me/100g exchangeable-Ca, 0.29 me/100g exchangeable-Mg, in the soil, as well as the decrease of exchangeable Al. Furthermore supporting plant growth such as (plant height, plant length,  and the number of the leaf).  Liming not significantly different for soil chemical properties and growth of oil palm. The higher the compost dose is given the better the growth of oil palms. Cultivation of tithonia as alley cropping at oil palm plantation  can be used as composite materials for synthetic fertilizer substitute source N and K

Research to improve soil fertility, especially the chemical characteristics of Ultisol, has been carried out by adding compost and lime. The incubation method of soil plus compost at a dose of 0.5 kg/pot – 2 kg/pot and 1x exchanged Al lime was carried out for 2 weeks. The results of soil nutrient analysis after incubation were an increase in pH of 0.58 points, a decrease in exchanged Al to unmeasured, an increase in the C-organic content of the soil by 3.44%, an increase in the total N-value of the soil by 0.19%, an increase in the amount of soil organic matter. P-available was 5.81 ppm and exchanged K soil increased by 0.02 me/100 g soil. Likewise, the micro elements analyzed also increase. Thus there is a change in the chemical properties of the soil towards the better. The increase in nutrients N, P, K, Ca, and Mg clearly comes from tithonia, which is the result of decomposition of tithonia compost which is added containing high nutrients. In addition, tithonia compost produces organic acids that can dissolve previously insoluble nutrients into soluble ones. The improvement of the chemical properties of the soil towards a better direction is expected to be able to increase the growth of oil palm seedlings planted on the seedling medium growing.

The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship between vegetation indices of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and soil nutrient of oil palm plantation at Felcra Nasaruddin Bota in Perak for future sustainable environment. The satellite image was used and processed in the research. By Using NDVI, the vegetation index was obtained which varies from -1 to +1. Then, the soil sample and soil moisture analysis were carried in order to identify the nutrient values of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K). A total of seven soil samples were acquired within the oil palm plantation area. A regression model was then made between physical condition of the oil palms and soil nutrients for determining the strength of the relationship. It is hoped that the risk map of oil palm healthiness can be produced for various applications which are related to agricultural plantation.

The soil physical and chemical properties of four densities (A:2500/hm2,B:3300/hm2,C:4400/hm2,D:6600/hm2) of hybrid Larch plantations, Larix olgensis plantation(E) and Quercus mandsurica forest(F) were studied in Jiangshanjiao forest farm of Heilongjiang province of China. Soil bulk density, soil porosity, total N, total P, available N and available P were affected significantly by plantation density in hybrid Larch plantations. The lowest surface soil bulk density was in density 2500/hm2. Soil porosity of density 2500/hm2and 3300/hm2was bigger than that of density 4400/hm2and density 6600/hm2. Total N, total P and available N of density 4400/hm2and 3300/hm2were higher than that of density 6600/hm2and density 2500/hm2. Total N, total P, available N and available P of hybrid Larch plantations were not lower than that of Larix olgensis plantation. The results of the soil physical and chemical properties under different densities of hybrid Larch plantations and different types of forest seems to confirm that hybrid Larch plantation did not decreased the soil fertility, and the hybrid Larch plantation with densities of 3300/hm2and 4400/hm2could be conductive to improving the soil quality. The results would provide the theories basis for manage the hybrid Larch plantations.

Indonesia as developed country which posses’ abundant natural resources has potential as producer of oil palm plantation due to its climate and the support from oil palm plantation investors. Oil palm plantation development has to guarantee the sustainability of surrounding environmental condition based on article The Law Number 39 of Year 2014 Concerning Plantation the Law Number 31 of Year 2009 Concerning Protection and Management of Environment. Infringement against the law - such as logging the forest irresponsibly by employing land combustion method in order to create a new oil palm plantation without spending too much cost and in order to accelerate the oil palm growth process - continuously happens. Such fact has been found out through court verdicts as well as academic researches. As the result, it created deteriorated ecosystem as shown by lack of soil nutrient, land infertility, erosion and flood. Due to massive impact resulted from such action; crime against environment might be categorized as extra ordinary crime. Therefore, crime against environment requires special concern from Indonesian Financial Services Authority by imposing financial control on the Plantation Company, profile assessment and supervision from central government as well as local government.

A study was conducted to investigate the impact of biochar amendment on chemical properties and corn nutrient uptake in a sandy Podzol soil. Four rates of biochar (0, 5, 10, and 15 g kg−1) and two rates of inorganic fertilizer (0 and local recommendation rate for corn) were randomly applied to a completely randomized design with four replicates. Corn was grown for 45 d in a glasshouse using sandy Podzol. The increase in pH of the soil was concomitant with a decrease of exchangeable Al. The fertilized soil significantly increased total N, with a concomitant decrease in soil pH due to a N nitrification. Positive changes did occur in the soil due to biochar application, leading to a significant increase in dry matter yield and corn height. Corn N and K uptakes were significantly increased by the addition of biochar, but the same was not true for Ca and Mg. However, it was found that the concentrations of N, Ca, and Mg in the corn tissue were still lower than their critical level. Our results demonstrate that application of biochar alone is not able to supply enough nutrients for the healthy growth of corn.
